  • So Disappointed...

    Assassin's Creed III
I've never played an Assassin's Creed game before, so perhaps I'm just not used to the style, but in the 90 mins I've played of AC3, I'm incredibly disappointed.

The controls are so clunky, I'm still not exactly sure how they work. Sometimes you can run, sometimes you can't, depending on the mission you're on I suppose. I like a sensitive mouse usually in games, but the camera feels WAY too sensitive, and I've not found a way to correct that yet (I guess I could change my computer settings probably).

The game constantly switches between cut scenes and gameplay. Usually cut scenes are cool, but this game tells you to walk to a spot, then it shows a cut scene, then tells you to walk somewhere else, cut scene, walk, cut scene, walk cut scene. There's almost no "game" to play in the beginning. I could deal with that if it were setting up the storyline but...

The animation doesn't keep up with the dialogue!!! And each piece of dialogue is tied to an animation, so you hear a line, then watch the animation of the character speaking, then the second character speaks, with his animation needing to finish... long sentences have killed this game for me.

This game looks like it would be so cool... I just don't know if I want to bother putting anymore time into it...

Earlier this month I bought a new laptop from Best Buy. Just received a $25 Rewards Zone reward certificate.

I think I'll roll that into a $50 Steam card and get it half-off lol.

Just a random post today. Yay for free money!

I'm only a half hour into the PS4 Announcement, and I'm already hearing a lot of themes that we're already sharing here on Cheerful Ghost. Sony is focusing a lot on connectivity between players, and shared gaming experiences. I'm really interested in seeing the PS4 in person (especially Watch Dogs, not mentioned yet in this announcement, but that freaking looks rad!)

    Final Fantasy II
I remember the first time I saw FFII over at a friend's house. I had never experienced an RPG before, and the game seemed so huge! And long! And as he told me about the story, I knew I needed to get my hands on this game.

Honestly, I don't remember much of the storyline now (which means it's time to play again!), but what I do remember is the music! The creators of this game did such a fantastic job crafting the perfect video game music. The music fits so well, causing feelings of victory, trepidation, joy, sadness and everything in between. I love going back and listening to it even now!

    Goodbye Skyrim,
    Goodbye Kinect
    Goodbye Madden
It's the Red Ring of Death

I've had my Xbox since 2007, and it kept getting less and less reliable. First it just "couldn't read" perfectly good disks occasionally, then it decided that black wasn't a color it want to display and instead replaced it with pink.

    Now it's finally dead.

I don't think I will replace it. My daughter loved the Kinect games, but other than that, I just didn't use it enough to warrent buying it new. Xbox will be out soon enough, and in the meantime I need a new computer ;)

I think I heard about "I used to be an adventurer..." before I had a clue what Skyrim was. But now... what if?

This is a ridiculously simple game, but I'm hooked! I recommend it as a time killer.

    World of Warcraft
I played WoW a bunch. The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King kept me going for a while, but I dropped out before Cataclysm came out.

I had no idea another another expansion was coming out until I saw a Kung Fu Panda commercial, that ended up being a WoW commercial?!? Mists of Pandaria? What the heck?

It might be drawing me back... thankfully my computer can't handle it, so it'll be a while before I lose myself to it, but I'm definitely interested.

Anyone else picking it up right away?

Skyrim Hearthfire, the newest DLC. I don't know if I'm so crazy about this one, but will probably check it out at some point.

    Madden NFL 13
Epic Madden 13 Intro. I put the disk in, fired it up and was totally not expecting to see something like this! So rad!

Just barely started the game. Lost an online game 24-21 and started a Coaching Career, but the EA servers were down for most of the time, so I didn't do a lot. But, it looks so good! Gonna be playing this a lot!

    Madden NFL 13
In anticipation of the actual game (already pre-ordered! Can't wait for the 28th!), I've downloaded the Madden 13 demo.

One feature I was really interested in checking out was the new physics engine, called the Madden Infinity Engine. In the past, when Madden players interacted with each other (tackling, hitting, catching the ball, etc), what was shown was a preset animation. Now there were very many of these animations, so it looked great, but it wasn't always "perfect."

Now, thanks to Madden's Infinity Engine, the players truly interact with each other. Speed, momentum, mass and body parts are all melded into a unique action. The animations are limitless, and usually look great.

But, I've also noticed some glitches that are almost Mastodon-falling-from-the-sky good.

On one catch, my receiver jumped up for a catch, made it, and a defender hit him in the air. The receiver held onto the ball, but his right arm (the hand holding the ball) was wrenched behind him, at least dislocating his shoulder, probably breaking some bones too, but he was able to hold onto the ball and hop right back up!

Another time, I was running the ball, and had another player trip over me after I was tackled. There's always a bit of animation between plays (guys walking back the the huddle, celebrating a tackle, etc), and I watched this player trip, fall over the running back, stand up, take a step forward, trip, fall over the running back, and on and on, until the screen cut away. It was amusing.

So, whilst the Infinity Engine looks like it's pretty cool, it also looks like there are going to be some ridiculous animations because of it as well.

Still can't wait for the 28th!
