Stardew Valley is an open-ended country-life RPG with support for up to 4-player co-op!

You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?

Stardew Valley is a modern classic that many consider to be one of the best games of all time. It debuted to critical acclaim but never received a physical release until now. You can pre-order Stardew Valley collectors or standard edition on Switch or PC. The each version is priced a bit differently and the Switch SKU seems to be a couple bucks more than the PC version. That said, the Switch Collectors edition is $69 and for what you get that's quite a good deal.

I have yet to really dig in to Stardew Valley and now that play most games on my Switch am considering picking up the standard physical edition. Anyone else thinking about that?

Back in 2013 I wrote about a game in early development called Stardew Valley. It was a one man project that looked like the PC Harvest Moon game we always wanted and we followed it over the years until its launch in 2016. We were so excited about the game that WhiteboySlim, Scrypt and I interviewed the developer of the game, something you should check out below.

Recently Stardew Valley celebrated it's one year anniversary and developer ConcernedApe wrote about that and the games long journey to launch. It's a really interesting read and something I recommend you check out.

"Stardew Valley Collector's Edition is coming to retail stores nationwide on April 11, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One! In addition to the full game, the Collector's Edition includes a Pelican Town Map, Mini-Guidebook by Kari Fry, and a code to download the Stardew Valley Soundtrack!"

Stardew Valley was a game we've all been following on Cheerful Ghost since I first heard about it February in 2013 and has since launched to crazy popular acclaim in the PC world. I love that it's getting a retail collectors edition, what I don't love is that it's only going to come out on PS4 and XBone. I know everyone already picked it up on PC, but I'd totally buy this if it came... Read All

There's a new update fresh off the farm! (Sorry not sorry for the pun.)

Earlier today ConcernedApe revealed that update 1.1 has entered beta to help clear out a few bugs before the full release. The change log looks pretty expansive with the big ticket items would be the new farm layouts themed after one of the in-game skills, two new marriage candidates, and a host of new buildings and warp items. The full change log as well as instructions on how to play the beta can be found here: http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/1-1-beta-thread.124827/

Nerds everywhere rejoiced when Stardew Valley was recently ported to Mac and Linux and everyone is now eagerly awaiting the 1.1 game update. Featuring more marriage options and features this update looks to be loaded with great stuff and PC Gamer interviewed Eric Barone about even more. In the interview Eric lets us know of a new thing where you can select one of 5 new farm maps to facilitate a different farming style. From the video there will be a Forest Farm, Wilderness Farm, Hill-top Farm, Riverland Farm and the Standard Farm we are all used to. I like this because it means each farm will be a bit different and you can approach the game from really different build... Read All

The developer of StardewValley tweeted some amazingly terrible news today.

"Quick Update: Mac & Linux are set to be launched on the 29th! Multiplayer, localizations, and the version 1.1 update are still in progress."

Well see on one hand that's good because the reason I haven't picked it up yet is because Stardew Valley lacked a Mac port so now that's solved. On the other hand it's terrible as I am sure all my free time will go down a virtual farming hole. A few Twitter fans asked ConcernedApe some questions about what tech they used to port the game.

"ConcernedApe: It was done with Monogame, as a milestone in the progress toward releasing console versions!"

Stardew Valley is ConcernedApe's country life farming game mega hit and in a recent blog post he outlined a roadmap of upcoming features. At the top of the list of stuff I am very interested in are Mac and Linux ports. Since Stardew Valley has been a one man effort to date ConcernedApe will be enlisting the help of some Chuckle Fish developers for the ports and multiplayer support. This is actually a really great thing as it means he can focus on core gameplay additions solely.

New features that are on a list of things to come:

  • Version 1.1 — A substantial content update

  • Co-op Multiplayer

  • Localizing for non-english regions

  • Mac/Linux Ports

  • Console Ports

  • Merchandise

I've still not played the game, but I enjoyed Rich and Jack's discussion of it. Spoiler alert: They're not crazy about it lol

2016 is the year of VR and we talk about what's out there and what we think about the future of VR. Is this going to be a real thing or is it just fluff? Along the way we also talk about Stardew Valley the Indie farming mega hit as well as what we've all been playing and watching.

What are your thoughts on VR? Is this something you are going to get and if you've experienced it what are your thoughts?

Stardew Valley is out today on Steam and GOG on PC to superb reviews.

"AmnesiacJack - Have you played Harvest Moon but wish it was done better? Tired of not owning a console for Rune Factory? Well now the PC has it's own farming darlin and honestly it feels like we got the best deal out of the three series. You'll be doing your self a big diservice if you purchase another farming game instead of this one."

"christopher.blue - Very fun Farming/Country Life Sim. Hunt slimes, raise crops or just have a thousand free range goats..."

"Vega - This game exceeded my expectations. I've been waiting to play this game for so long, but I had recently re-found it while browsing the... Read All
