Good Old Games is offering the original Fallout for free for the next 48 hours:

While you are adding that to your account, grab all the other free GoG games:

I picked up Empire Earth free a few months back and this is just as cool. Enjoy!

WhiteboySlim: Awesome! Thanks for the tip. Just snagged it for myself. :) Another great game I may or may not have time to play sometime in the future! lol

jdodson: Yeah, having access to cheap or free games is awesome but it doesn't mean you play them all :)

Tungsten: I got this a few years back while waiting for Fallout 3. I had the same problem I have with RPG's now: I constantly start over, convinced there was a better way to do things. I think in the 10 hours I played it I never got more than one hour in with a character. TOO MANY CHOICES!!!

Fun though. Makes me miss turn based games. We have this obsession with real time action now. The VATS system was a decent compromise in Fallout3, but I do miss the good old tile based movement.

jdodson: Miss the old days: I do too. Seems like the only people that are doing these older styled games are mobile or indie devs.

That said we can always play the old games, well I guess until they no longer run. Been impressed how old games still are playable on windows though. It's cool.

Travis: I need to give Fallout 1 and 2 their fair shake. I barely played them, and not until after playing 3 and New Vegas. Now that I have some distance from those, I can probably appreciate the old ones the way they deserve.

jdodson: Makes sense. Kind of wonder how I would react to the ol Baldurs games considering I never played them. Excited about the new remake though.

Old games I played back in the day seem to hold up just fine though.

Tungsten: I love old games, but I've been too coddled by the new mechanics. I can't imagine playing doom without regenerating shields and health or mellee attacks. At least it had co-op.

    jdodson: And deathmatch.

I hear you though, but some old games still hold up for me. Not all but quite a few.
