Faeria is a free to play digital card game that is if like Magic The Gathering got together with a board game and had a kid that liked video games. It's a really fun blending of the digital card craze that seems to find a very organic flow with a hexagon board that you need to place land on strategically to win. It's kind of a hard game to describe so I've linked to a Kripparian video above where he talks about the game, it hitting 1.0 and then plays a couple games showing off how it works.

Faeria differentiates itself from other games like Hearthstone in that it is way more generous with free to play. For instance daily quests are things like "Play 10 yellow cards" that give you 200 to 600 gold. Since a pack costs 1000 gold you can open packs a bit faster than in Hearthstone and since the game is more strategic, when you lose it doesn't feel as harsh as losing to RNG. Faeria also enhances free to play by offering daily login bonuses you can get by just checking in once a day. They've also included a very nice set of single player missions that show you how to play the game and give you a lot of starting gold and packs.

You can play Faeria right now for free on Steam on PC, Mac and Linux or iPad. They plan on launching Faeria on Android tablets soon as well as iPhone and Android, which should be great to expand it's player base. I seriously recommend you create an account and check out the game and if you do let me know and i'll send you an invite to the game so I can get some free packs as you play the game.

Oh and when you play the game you can use the codes "KrippFaeria" and "FaeriaKripp" to get a couple extra packs to open too!

https://www.faeria.com/news/patch-notes/134-faeria-is-now-released2017-03-20T05:45:51Zjdodsontag:cheerfulghost.com,2005:Post/30872016-08-27T23:04:35Z2016-08-27T23:05:28Z/jdodson/posts/3087/faeria-is-now-free-to-play-drops-new-single-player-modeFaeria Is Now Free To Play & Drops New Single Player Mode
"It's been a long time coming, but we've finally made it. We've spent a large part of Early Access gearing up for this day.

While Early Access still continues, we are very excited to have reached this milestone and made the game available to everyone, everywhere - for free.

With the unleashing of Free-to-Play comes our first public iteration of the new single player experience. Most of the initial content is oriented toward new and casual players in order to provide a viable alternative to participating in multiplayer or competitive modes. You will now be able to challenge and play against characters in the Faeria universe, earning rewards and increasing your collection size in the process.

Keep in mind, this is just the beginning for our new single player mode. Today is the first of three major single player updates between now and our 1.0 full release, and we have much more planned by the end of the year: More characters, more interactions, more challenges, and even new types of challenges. Keep watching our news here for when they arrive."

Faeria is a fun new digital card game that mixes up the format to feature a hexagonal board you use to place land and summon creatures. It improves on some of the more popular digital card games out now and manages to have it's own unique style well worth checking out and since it's now free, why not?

https://faeria.com/news/patch-notes/77-faeria-is-now-free-to-play

Faeria is available on Mac and PC on Steam and will come soon to Linux, Android and iOS.2016-08-27T23:05:28Zjdodsontag:cheerfulghost.com,2005:Post/30692016-08-13T04:42:14Z2016-08-13T05:08:43Z/jdodson/posts/3069/build-your-living-board-in-faeria-a-new-strategy-digital-card-gameBuild Your Living Board In Faeria a New Strategy Card Game!

Many of you may not know about a new "living board" card game on Steam called Faeria. Faeria enters a market dominated by Hearthstone and Magic and seems to effortlessly drop itself in the middle to make a very rich and unique experience. Faeria improves on the formula that Magic The Gathering started and Hearthstone enhanced digitally while weaving in a unique game board. In Faeria you start out with mana and a handful of cards and can make choices to play land, gain mana or draw a card. You start the game with a deck of 30 cards and 20 life and the goal is to defeat the opponent by reducing their life to 0. You need to summon minions, use spells and other tricks to gain board control and defeating your opponent requires you to use strategic land and minion placement.

Faeria Is For Players Frustrated With The Hearthstone Grind

Faeria improves on Hearthstone's free to play grind by doing two things. Firstly it's easier to grind your daily quests for gold. Many of the quests are play to win, which means regardless of if you win or lose you can get usually get your daily gold. Also, you can skip the grind entirely and pay $50 to unlock the entire card set. So either play the game for free to win gold to open packs OR simply pay $50 to unlock all the current set of all cards. I really like this model as I don't honestly mind grinding to open packs and so far, haven't found that to be a bad way to go. Sure lots of people have better decks but I am winning a bit less than half the time and sometimes I have the enemy down to a couple health before they eek out a win. I'm OK with these odds as I've only played about 5 hours and I still haven't unlocked all the basic cards in story mode yet. I imagine i'll get better over time as I unlock more so the free to play grind seems to work for me.

Faeria Ditches RNG In Favor of Mostly Pure Strategy

With any card game you have the random element of drawing the right cards at first but if you play Hearthstone you know it's much more random than getting the right cards. Faeria drops all the random elements from individual card mechanics and features a very strategic experience. The game seems more like a refined game of chess than the often frantic and hilariously frenzied Hearthstone matches I've played. I really like both styles of games but if you want to play a game that's more strategic Faeria is for you.

How Do I Play Faeria?

Currently you have to buy into Faeria early access for $25 but if you wait till August 24th the game will go free to play for everyone. Currently Faeria is on Windows and Mac but the developers have plans to bring the game to Linux, XBOne, iOS, PS4 and Android.

If you are looking for a new digital card game and find the typical grind to be no fun at all Faeria might be something you should try .

https://www.faeria.com/2016-08-13T05:08:43Zjdodson
