I wanted to hate it. I wanted to mock it from behind my usual standbys of EVE-Online, TF2, and DayZ. For a while, I probably did hate it... Then I saw it was on sale and wound up buying it and re-activated my account.

Class changes aside, I've grown to...actually...like Mists of Pandaland. One feature I thought I'd abhor was pet battles... Boy was I wrong. jdodson: The pet battle system was the thing in the Pandera expansion I was the most interested in so its good to hear it worked well. The interesting thing about new entrants into the MMO space is that they have a bunch of awesome WoW expansion to contend with.

The other day I started Planetside 2 and had no idea what I was doing. Nothing letting me know what was happening, nothing giving me a pro-top to what to do next. The game is a cool concept, but the original Quake does a better job of teaching you how to play the game. This isn't a jab at Quake but a slight against a new MMO like Planetside 2 that doesn't really show you what the deal is.

Recently I made it to Hell mode in Diablo 3 and a night or so later I got an email from Blizzard saying this:

"You've proven your valor in the battle for Sanctuary in Diablo III. Now take your skills to Azeroth with a FREE digital copy of World of Warcraft Battle Chest, which includes 30 days of game time, The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansion packs."

Travis: I don't think it had anything to do with getting to Hell, though I guess they may have some threshold for it. I got that email yesterday as well.

I probably won't give it a shot, with all the other things I have to play at the moment. Though if you can start that 30 days whenever you want, and you don't have to start it immediately upon activating the freebie, then I might.

jdodson: The Starter Edition and this 30 day eval are different. The Starter Edition has no time limit and is separate. I would just play the Starter and then the 30 day if you are more inclined to continue.

Travis: No I mean the Battle Chest has a limit. If you don't activate it soon it expires. Does your 30 day eval start with activating it or when you start playing? Because I'd like to activate it just to have it and start playing when I'm ready.

Travis: Right I knew that. Just wondering when the free month *started*-- whether it was when you activate the battle chest or when you start playing-- but (unless you've played WoW since you activated that) it looks like it starts when you activate it.

jdodson: That makes sense, yeah seems they time limit the 30 days to have people start it up now. Makes sense, I don't need to play it right now and if I want getting a 90 day card isn't hard or expensive.

I played WoW a bunch. The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King kept me going for a while, but I dropped out before Cataclysm came out.

I had no idea another another expansion was coming out until I saw a Kung Fu Panda commercial, that ended up being a WoW commercial?!? Mists of Pandaria? What the heck?

It might be drawing me back... thankfully my computer can't handle it, so it'll be a while before I lose myself to it, but I'm definitely interested.

Anyone else picking it up right away?

jdodson: This expansion really interests me and I am not a WoW player. They add a kind of pokemon mini game to it, plus I really like the look of Pandara. I dig the whole dark game thing, but I enjoy bright open worlds too. WoW had that, but maybe I just started as a Undead and... Wait I did :)

That said, the Undead area has its bright places and it was fun. I just can't get around a sub...

Ben_Dodson: Is GW2 better than WOW? That is like asking the question is Torchlight 2 better than Diablo 3. Both are great games that are similar but everyone has their bias and you then can ask the question what coffee is the best and you will get different responses.

Mist is looking to be a fun expansion. The keep claiming it will get back to the original WOW roots of exploring and Horde v Alliance conflict.

There are many new mini games as Jon talked about Pokemon. If that wasn't enough there will be a type of Farmville with the Tillers faction. There is already a Plants v Zombies in the game.

Cataclysm revamped the Old World in a huge way. The 1-60 leveling is by far the best it has ever been. However the 80-85 content there are many opinions on this and mine is I am glad it is over. I am not going to make a huge post in that regards.

Kung-Fu Panda meets WOW we shall see but from the test I have seen and the feed back I have read this should be good.

And Jon I am sorry but when WOW is under 2Mil subs I am sure they will make it free. Until then 15$ a month.

Totally awesome to get your hands on one of these servers. For the plaque and historical nature alone. I imagine they wipe the drives before they ship them though :)
