Released on March 25, 2014 by Blizzard Entertainment

The Prime Evil rages within the Black Soulstone, its essence screaming for vengeance and release. Before the artifact can be sealed away forever, Malthael–Angel of Death–manifests in the mortal realms with a deadly new purpose: to steal the Black Soulstone and bend its infernal power to his will.

So begins the end of all things...

If you are looking for something to play and haven't opened Diablo 3 in a bit you might want to check out the latest Diablo season. You know, in between Hearthstone matches, Fallout 4's new DLC, Stardew Valley, Battleborn, Dark Souls 3 and the upcoming Doom reboot. We all have that kind of time right?

When Diablo III season 5 rolled out I was hooked on it for a week or so. All the changes they had made to the game to that point along with the season bonuses seemed too incredible to pass up. I unlocked a few items and found some legendary recipes and was bummed that might not roll over permanently. As it turns out, a lot of your progress will roll over or transfer to a normal character.

"Those who have played through a few Seasons know there has been no shortage of gold, gear, or Paragon levels to earn. So what happens to all that hard earned progress when a Season ends? In short, you get to keep just about all of it.

If you're like me and picked up Diablo III you had fun with the single player and didn't delve too deeply in the content beyond that. I spent some time with a couple Nephalem rifts at Reaper of Souls launch but didn't delve too deeply. That said, Blizzard hasn't been idle since the last expansion launch and recently dropped patch 2.4.0 as well as Season 5 that is well worth checking out.

If you didn't know, seasons last three months and contain a set of objectives that if completed grant you special stuff. To date, I haven't put much thought to completing them as they weren't very interesting but for me, Season 5 and patch 2.4.0 has changed that. To read... Read All

"Miles off the coast of Westmarch lies an island that many believe to be little more than legend. Cut off from the rest of Sanctuary’s developed civilizations, Greyhollow was once the center of a grand empire. Often times, such isolated societies grow and advance at incredible rates, and Greyhollow was no different. Its citizens devoted their cause to a mysterious and, as is often the case in Sanctuary, completely evil being. For reasons still unknown to this day, this unimaginably advanced society collapsed, leaving ruin, chaos, and a lingering curse behind."

Diablo III is still getting some major attention from Blizzard and the upcoming 2.4.0 patch... Read All

Blizzard isn't stopping the Diablo 3 update train post Reaper of Souls for a very interesting patch 2.3.0. I'll clip out the more interesting bits we've been talking about in the run up to the patch drop.

"The Ruins of Sescheron
The frozen wasteland that is the Ruins of Sescheron are now open for exploration! Filled with new enemies, traps, and environmental hazards, you'll be able to explore the region and learn more about what befell the barbarians of Mount Arreat. Explore the Immortal Throne and obtain the ultimate treasure: Kanai's Cube.

Blizzard is preparing a hefty update to Reaper of Souls and aims to bring back something we all loved from Diablo 2, the Horadric Cube. You can find the new cube, Kanai's Cube in the new zone Blizzard is adding called "Ruins of Sescheron." The new zone was cut from the shipped version of Reaper of Souls and will be added back in the upcoming 2.3.0 update. I am looking forward to checking this out when it ships as one thing that always impressed me about the game is how beautiful and inventive the zones are. It also looks like it features some awesome new monsters as well, which should give high level players something fun to do.

Recently, I decided to jump back into Diablo III: Reaper of Souls because of an in-game event celebrating the birthday of RoS. Since the bonus was extra EXP and gold, I decided to create a new character, starting with a Demon Hunter. I managed to complete Campaign mode and, since the event was still going on, created another new character, a Monk. I then created yet another new character, a Witch Doctor which seems to have turned out to definitely be one of my favorite classes.

Before that event, I was waiting for patch 2.2.0 to be released, but that event made me decide to jump back in the game early. Now, the wait is over. This comes just in time, since I... Read All

Diablo III has had a pretty interesting journey from it's early design days to it's eventual reveal, launch, loot 2.0 and most recently with the Reaper of Souls expansion. As a fan of the original games I pre-ordered the Diablo III Collectors Edition and had high hopes for the game. I enjoyed the final released game but felt it didn't have quite a long tail that the original games seemed to have. When they released loot 2.0, a patch that fundamentally changed how the reward system worked, I was pleased as were many other people. If you wanted to know more about this process and the reasoning and history behind Blizzards early version of Diablo III to Reaper... Read All

YouTube sensation Rhykker released a video outlining the upcoming Diablo 3 2.1.2 patch. The new patch features 3 kinds of Treasure Goblins, two new gems and a new zone. They are also adding new legendary affixes, items and ancient items.

Blizzard is doing much to keep Diablo 3 updated and address player feedback. Will any of these changes get you to come back to Diablo?

Blizzard will launch Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Edition on consoles August 19th. If you have been unable to play the game thus far because your are console bound, now you will get your chance. At first I thought this release would only make it to the PS4 and XBone, but it seems Blizzard is releasing it on the PS3, PS4, 360 & XBone to keep everyone happy.

I have a sneaking suspicion we might see Lilith in a future Diablo game. That or Diablo, I bet we will always be killing that guy.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is coming to next gen consoles and Blizzard provided a pretty lengthy Q&A at PAX about what it will be. Not only will the game contain the base Diablo III experience but also all of the Reaper of Souls content as well as some console exclusive features. Some of these features make a ton of sense for consoles but would also be kind of neat to see ported back to PC. One feature in particular is auto-leveling your friends to scale with you and the game you are currently playing.

The current Diablo III loot 2.0 first started on the console version and was such a hit it was ported back to PC, so hopefully some of this comes back.
