After finally defeating the Wall of Flesh, my first little world has ventured into Hardmode. It's definitely hard! Although the level of difficulty has increased (due to stronger monsters), I feel like I'm enjoying my first little world all over again. After destroying three Demon Altars, I began my hunt for Cobalt, Mythril, Adamantite, and Crystal Shards. I have found enough Cobalt to upgrade my armor, which is blue and therefore I love it. I am now searching for Mythril to upgrade my armor yet again (I definitely need better armor in this world now). I had to upgrade my pickaxe. With my new Molten Pickaxe, I'm now able to mine Cobalt. Along with the Cobalt, I had to create a Cobalt Drill in order to mine the higher-tier ores such as Mythril. It's an interesting tool, but I love my Molten Pickaxe because it lights up the area where I'm mining. I am also mining Crystal Shards as the guide on the wiki recommends a Phasesaber. I have a Blue Phaseblade awaiting an upgrade (but I'm not currently using it).

After a while, Pirates began to attack. This is much like the Goblin Invasion, except the Pirates can't get inside your house, unless a door is open. I died many times! Luckily, during the fight, one of them managed to drop some Cutlass swords. Even luckier, one dropped a "Very Sharp" Cutlass, which is pretty strong! I have since put away my Night's Edge, since it isn't better than my new Cutlass. I miss having a sword that shined light when swung, but I can't complain too much as my new Cutlass has a damage stat of 59 (I believe) and some good modifiers on it. Along with the high damage that it does, one of my other favorite things about it is that it is fast! I don't think I've ever been able to swing a sword so fast, I love it!

In order to create a Molten Pickaxe (as recommended by a guide on the wiki), I had to mine more Hellstone. On my way to the Underworld, I noticed that my world changed. Not only were there new enemies, but part of the Underground layer containing lava got a graphical upgrade. One funny thought I had was that the Cave Bat has been upgraded to a Giant Bat. This made me think "Zubat has evolved into a Golbat." laughing

I've now spent a little over 100 hours on the game and I'm still loving it. As I said, the new additions due to Hardmode are making me love it more. I have briefly encountered The Hallow, which seemed to be taking over my Crimson area. I also found a new Crimson area. Oh, and I did use my Obsidian Skull and a Cobalt Shield to make an Obsidian Shield, that was pretty helpful. I have not yet set about trying to contain The Hallow, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that and when, but for now I'm working on upgrading my gear. Oh, and I did find the Wizard. Also, earlier, the Party Girl moved in. I also have Wetbeard the Pirate in my house since I defeated the Pirates.

Your cobalt armor looks rad!

Thanks, I agreed! However, I just now upgraded to Mythril Armor, which isn't as beautiful.

One of the things you want to check out is the new Hardmode Jungle experience. It's tougher and Chlorophyte is now available to mine. You can craft some wicked stuff from Chlorophyte but need a certain pickaxe power to mine it. That said, it's one of the final tier armor / weapon tiers and it's got a really awesome set bonus.

Awesome, thanks Jon! I haven't really explored the new Jungle yet. I remember the Wiki saying not to mine every piece of Clorphyte so that it can continue to grow. I've also managed to find some of the drops needed to summon the new bosses, though I'm not ready for them yet. One thing I think I need to do is organize the stuff I have in my chests as it's difficult to remember where I put everything and sometimes I overlook things. I've seen the message about the ground shaking a couple of times. I think this means Eater of Worlds might appear.

Yep, keep some around. That said, if you play all the time you should have a ton. On our shared server I left some, sometimes I didn't. As far as I know, we always had enough.

> One thing I think I need to do is organize the stuff I have in my chests as it's difficult to remember where I put everything and sometimes I overlook things.

Consistently one of the things I forget when I am organizing my stuff to start. I have two chests for common dirts / wood, 2 chests for enemy craftable drops(one for normal mode enemies, one for hardmode), one chest for swords, one chest for guns + bullets, one chest for magic weapons, one armor stand per OLD armor set + vanity set, one chest PER boss drop items+summon items. I store all my ores, cash and boss spawns in the piggy bank and shared vault.

Wow, that's awesome (your organization). Some of my stuff is organized, well all my metals are organized. However, I've stopped creating Iron and Lead, instead I'm saving those ores for Ironskin Potions.

I was wrong in my previous comment. The boss was not Eater of Worlds, but the Destroyer. I got the message again and then when I teleported back to my house (because I was near death), I was abruptly killed (along with my nurse).

I should probably go looking for Clorphyte since Adamantite is getting difficult to find. I found enough to create the Adamantite Forge, but no much extra for much of anything else.

I finally have Adamantite Armor. =) I can't get mine the Clorophyte yet because I need an upgraded mining too such as a Pickaxe Axe or a Drax. In order to make those, I need Hallowed Bars. I apparently can't get those unless I fight a Hardmode boss. The Jungle is a deadly area now, heck the Crimson is, too. I like the Hallow areas, they're cool and look "pretty." I did also beat an Ice Golem. I also picked up a dropped Hallowed Key Mold. I did a Charm of Myths and I do have a Cross Necklace (that I haven't equipped yet). I wish the pre-hardmode bosses also dropped Hallowed bars after defeating them in the Hardmode world. I'm not sure what else to do at this point other than to start fighting some Hardmode bosses. Since I have plenty of Voodoo Dolls, I'll probably take on the Wall of Flesh again, I do want a Warrior Emblem, the WoF I defeated dropped the Ranger Emblem.

So, want to know a funny joke? The Wall of Flesh!!! That's right, with my new gear, the WoF is a joke! I'm using my Voodoo Dolls and fighting it, it still hasn't dropped a Breaker Blade (which I might not need anyway) nor a Warrior's Emblem (but I have the other two). It seems my armor upgrades my weapon because my Cutlass now has a damage stat of 70. I also created a Star Veil. This battle is so easy now, I don't even need to use potions!

Azurephile   Super Member   Post Author wrote on 01/12/2014 at 11:49pm

5 times, 5 times! I summoned and defeated the Destroyer 5 times in a row. =) I had summoned him before, but I didn't beat him before dawn, so it ran away. This time, I made 10 Mechanical Worms. That said, I now have a full set of Hallowed Armor, a Drax, and more Hallowed Bars. I'm thinking of making Excalibur, but I'm going to look up some Hallowed Bar recipes. Then, I'm going to head over to the Jungle and mine Chlorophyte. I did also (last night) summon Skeleton Prime a couple of times, but I did not survive. But, since then I've not only made Greater Healing Potions, the Destroyer dropped plenty of them. I have not yet summoned or fought the Twins, but the Destroyer definitely seems to be the easiest Hardmode boss, in fact it wasn't really difficult at all, I didn't use any potions nor did I ever heal myself (I didn't need to).

jdodson   Admin wrote on 01/13/2014 at 12:06am

Good to hear you have having a good time with the Wall and Destroyer. When you get geared to a certain point, many of the bosses are not particularly hard. BUT the Pumpkin Moon and Christmas events are.. Wow are they...

> However, I've stopped creating Iron and Lead, instead I'm saving those ores for Ironskin Potions.

When I craft all I can from the bars of a particular ore I just collect and stash the ore for occasions such as this. It's always trivial to turn ore => bars but impossible to go back.

Azurephile   Super Member   Post Author wrote on 01/13/2014 at 01:28am

Awesome. I've started collecting Chlorophyte, but haven't found enough yet to make the armor. I've also fought Plantera twice and died each time, even with the use of Ironskin and Regeneration potions. I think the best that I did was getting it to about half it's life and a second form. The Jungle is dangerous!!! Seriously! I'm about stopping to use Healing Potions and starting to use Greater Healing Potions more. Oh and since I had a few Suspicious Eyes, I decided to use them and fight the Eye of Cthulhu again. Yeah, that was easy!

I think I'm going to skip the Chlorophyte Armor and get the Turtle Armor since it uses Chlorophyte and seems to be better.

jdodson   Admin wrote on 01/13/2014 at 05:36pm

I've never used the turtle armor so I can't vouch for it. Last time I played I we to Chlorophyte -> Spectral. Spectral is on of the best ways to survive the Pumpkin and Christmas events.
