So, in the comments of my last post, I told you I figured out that the reason the Goblin Tinkerer and Mechanic didn't respawn in my house when I found them (and then they died) was because I didn't create rooms properly. Luckily, after figuring that out, both have respawned. Unfortunately, I thought (well hoped before really reading the wiki thoroughly enough) that the Tinkerer Workstation would allow me to combine some of the items I had. It apparently only works with certain items. Bummer.
So, when I began to play Terraria, I decided to create a small world, since I was just beginning. Now I'm thinking of making a new world, either medium or large. It made sense at first since I was new to the game and getting used to it. In a way I was afraid of not being able to find anything because the world was too big. Now I feel as though I have pretty thoroughly explored my little world and I'm not sure what else to do in it (except what I'm getting to).
That said, I read the wiki about Hardmode. I found out that to have your world upgraded, you need to defeat the Wall of Flesh. To summon it, you have to drop a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava. I had no idea what those voodoo dolls were for so I sold them. I didn’t even look them up on the wiki. I have one for the Clothier, too, I think. I finally took a piece of advice from the wiki and created an "arena" for this battle. That is to say, I made it so that I pretty much had a straight path to and from both sides of the Underworld. It wasn't difficult to set up and it was a great idea. I also read that it's a good idea to back up your world in case one of the bugs occurred or you later decided that you weren't ready for a Hardmode world. So, I've made a back up.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to defeat the Wall of Flesh. I have gotten it's HP into the red, but I still fail to defeat it every time. At this point I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep trying to defeat it or create a new world, both options are very tempting. I'm currently looking up some things that will help me in this battle. I'm thinking that if I create a bigger world, I might have more room for this battle, since my "arena" isn't perfectly flat. Also, I'd really like to explore new (to me) areas that aren't in my little world and hopefully to also find more items and such.
So, what are your thoughts on the Wall of Flesh battle? What strategies and items do you recommend?

It's not terribly easy to get, but a Star Cannon should make pretty short work of the Wall of Flesh. http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Star_Cannon
A megashark with meteorite bullets (meteorite brick + bullets) or a Demons Scythe (spell, drops off demons in Hell) works well too.
Just a tip about hardmode: Make sure you're done exploring/looting Hell and the Dungeon before switching to Hardmode. I'd also recommend making sure you've found and looted the floating islands too. Once hardmode starts there are new mobs that spawn in these areas that will make exploring difficult in the early part of hard mode. Also, you'll want the items you can loot from these areas for hardmode.
Thanks for the tips! I was looking at better weapons, although I can't remember which ones specifically, but I think I'm unable to make them or one of them I wanted. The Night's Edge requires the Blade of Grass, Fiery Greatsword, Muramasa, and Light's Bane or Blood Butcherer. Unfortunately, I sold the Muramasa that was found in the Dungeon. Also, I don't think I can get Demonite ore as my world came with Crimson instead of Corruption.
Since I've been fighting the Wall of Flesh all day and have come oh so very close to defeating it, I've decided that I need to create a bigger world. I need a new world so that I can get back that Muramasa and I'm also hoping to find Corruption instead of Crimson. If my new world gives me the ores and items that I need, I should be able to beat the Wall of Flesh. I did create Ironskin and Regeneration potions, which helped. I have some Demons Scythes, but the way it looked, my Fiery Greatsword dealt more damage.
So, my next step (that I have decided on) is to create a new world. I'm thinking of creating a medium one and check it out. I'm tempted to create a large one, but I think a medium one will probably do for now. My current world has been great and I'm really into the game, but I've reached a point to where my small world has become a bit of a limitation and I'm ready to move on to a bigger one.
Oh, as for floating islands, I haven't found any, but there's probably at least one some where at an elevation that I have not yet explored. I did, however, find an ocean at the far right end of my world, but it is pretty small.
Starcannon is pretty great for that fight. I don't think you can get a megashark till after hardmode...

Yeah, after hardmode.
Building a flat platform to fight the WOF on is a great idea. The only time's i've killed the WOF during normal mode were with WhiteboySlim & Travis so it was much easier than solo'ing. That said, I think you can take in on your own so ensure you have the full molten armor set and whatever sword that is(or better) and have the star cannon handy.
Getting some iron skin potions, pumpkin pies and regeneration pots might help too.
"Unfortunately, I sold the Muramasa that was found in the Dungeon. Also, I don't think I can get Demonite ore as my world came with Crimson instead of Corruption. "
There's probably more than one Muramasa in the dungeon. Or at least, there could be. On large worlds we've found at least three in there. And you don't need Demonite ore since you don't need Light's Bane. Blood Butcherer will work.
But I will say that melee on the Wall is insanely hard. Minishark with the highest tier bullets pre-hardmode (which I think WBS is right about, meteorite bullets) or star cannon or both will help.
And some gravity potions will help you find floating islands. You can also go into your world as a hardcore character, intentionally die, and then float around looking for them.
True, I could possibly find another Muramasa. I remember seeing some chests that weren't Golden and required a key. I may not have completely explore the dungeon, either, there may be some chests that I missed. You're right, also, in that the Blood Butcherer will work. I even read and said that and didn't even give it much thought.
I have finally tried gravity potions, which helped me find one Floating Island. I read that I could be a hardcore character and die and float around and look for them. Since I got the Tinkerer's Workstation, I did create those boots that let me fly a little, but I haven't gotten used to it yet. I tried it out a little bit.
I recreated my 3rd world (#2 is Vinny's and he only played it once I think), after I found it had Crimson instead of Corruption. My new 3rd world has Corruption, which I wanted to see and explore. I created a medium world. I also built a pretty dang high building to house all possible NPCs, even though I only have the Guide as of now. I think it has ten floors each divided in half, so 2 rooms per floor.
Thanks for the tips! Those are some good strategies I didn't even think about that I'll have to consider. =)
I made a Star Cannon. Now I wish I hadn't converted all those Fallen Stars to Mana Crystals. Well, at least now I have a good reason to save Fallen Stars! =) Oh, and I've almost spent 100 hours on the game, I'm getting there and loving it!
You should max out on mana for sure, later on it's super useful. That said, fallen stars aren't too hard to collect a ton of over time. :D
Right. Minishark. I meant the minishark in my previous comment. Sorry!
And yeah, fallen stars seem like they're rare when you don't have your mana maxed. But having a maxed mana is very useful, especially in hardmode when you start getting the really good magic weapons.
I didn't have any trouble maxing out my health or mana. I just never use mana. Well, I tried out the Demon Scythe, but I thought my sword would be more effective of a weapon. I'll try out my Star Cannon when I have more stars for ammo. Still, I think if I can craft that Night's Edge, it will give me the edge (no pun intended) I need to beat the Wall of Flesh.
You have to balance effectiveness of weapon vs. effectiveness of your defensive strategy. You could probably kill him faster with the Night's Edge, as long as you could stay alive, but using ranged will help keep you much safer for much longer.
I found out that the house I created isn't too big. It seems other NPCs were waiting on the Merchant to move in.
So, I found the Dungeon in my new world, but while I was talking to the Old Man, I was being watched. As I was fighting Skeletron, the Eye of Cthulhu showed up, so at one point I was fighting both of them. I said, "this is going to be fun!" Hahahahaha During the battle, I used a Healing Potion once and nothing else. Those, I suppose, are the easier bosses.
I like seeing Demonite in my new world. I love blue, so when I see it, I think it's beautiful. The Dungeon in my first world was made of Blue Brick (which I loved), but the new one is made of green. I'm still exploring the new Dungeon so that I can find that Murasama, so I can make my Night's Edge. I'm enjoying exploring my new world, it's pretty cool!
I finally defeated the Wall of Flesh!!! After creating my Night's Edge, I noticed that it was a "Broken" one. Sure enough! It's a good thing I had a Goblin Tinkerer, because I reforged it and it got a 10% damage modifier. Still, the WoF destroyed me (a few times). I decided to add a Gingerbread Man to the mix of buffs that I used (also including Iron Skin and Regeneration potions). I also used my Star Cannon. Ah, I feel accomplished now! Still, I wish the WoF dropped the Breaker Blade, that would have been sweet!
Now you get to kill him a few more times so you can get everything he drops! :)
Seriously, he drops some amazing things.
Hahahahaha!!!! Well now I should be able to make some better weapons and armor to make that fight much easier. The Wiki said after you beat the WoF, your world gets upgraded to hardmode.
