Yesterday, Hyrule Warriors received another DLC and major update. In this post I want to briefly cover the new update, the older updates, and (not so briefly) share with you my experience of the game since I first posted about it.

It seems that every version update of the game has been released along with a DLC. Each DLC, or version update, has increased the maximum level that characters can reach. I think this level was originally 50, then 100, then 150, and now 200. The DLC usually includes new a new map for Adventure Mode, which also adds 20 extra Gold Skulltulas to find. The Master Quest Pack added Epona as a weapon for Link along with outfits for Cia and Lana. It also added a little to Legend Mode (story mode). It also contained a new Master Quest map for Adventure mode. Many of the areas on this map come with special battle limitations such as "No Healing." The very first square on the map is one of those battles, but also happens to be the very best place for level grinding.

The Twilight Princess Pack added Minda's true form as a new playable character, although none of the maps in Adventure Mode required her to play. I have not yet played as her yet, but I was glad to see her true form added to the game. This DLC also added new costumes for Zelda and Link. It also contained many 8-bit versions of many of the character's weapons. This DLC increased the level cap to 150 and the Adventure Mode map was the toughest of them all. Because of the increased challenge of the new map, I was forced to learn how to play the characters better. It helped me make better use of Link's combos. While I often found myself frustrated with this new map, I was very glad when I completed it (having obtained every new Gold Skulltula, weapon, and costume).

The Majora's Mask Pack was released yesterday and not only increases the level cap to 200, but adds new features to the game. For instance, by using the Smithy, you can now sell weapons and remove or unlock weapon skills. This is a handy feature as the game only allows you to carry 10 weapons for each type (for instance, only 10 of Link's Power Glove). The game also adds new playable characters including Tingle and Young Link. It also adds new costumes, weapons, and Gold Skulltulas in a new Adventure Mode map.

Each DLC's Adventure Mode map is very different. In the Twilight Map, many of the areas on the map have certain rules like "No Special Attacks" and some of them also hide enemy locations on the mini-map in battle. This latter effect can be removed by using one of the new Item Cards, dispelling the "Twilight" effect. On the Majora's Mask Adventure Mode map, the player progresses through the map while the Moon prepares to fall, which resets the map. Different Item Cards can be used to put time back on the clock or reset the map. This makes it so that players need to strategically move throughout the map because time is limited and only so much of the map can be revealed at a time.

I've spent a lot of time playing Hyrule Warrior's since it's release. I have also enjoyed the game, although the more challenging Twilight Princess Adventure Mode map was a bit frustrating at times. Legend Mode takes the player through the games story, which is cool and fun. However, compared to Adventure Mode, it is very short. I've been surprised by how many hours Adventure Mode adds to the game.

I like that the game has many aspects of various Legend of Zelda games that have been released throughout the years. I also like that the game has received numerous DLC packs, all of which I have purchased except for some of the costumes. Although I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game, Hyrule Warriors introduces me to that game series and makes me interested in those games

I think Hyrule Warriors is a great game for the Wii U and I recommend it, especially for fans of The Legend of Zelda series.

I'd like to see the game get more DLC (including Adventure Mode maps) based upon the other games.

I should also mention that this DLC coincides with the release of Majora's Mask for the 3DS.

I was also able to get some of the DLC for free by registering the game at Club Nintendo. Some of the content includes different costume sets for various characters, one of which is a Dark Link costume for Link.

It seems as though some of the DLC wasn't available right away. I don't know if it was released at a later date or I had to accomplish some in-game goals to unlock them. I recently noticed more content was available such as playable characters, which mostly included the game's enemies. This also seemed to open up a new story-line in... This also seemed to open up a new story-line in Legend Mode called "Cia's Tale," in which you can play as Cia, Wizzro, or Volga. I played as Cia and Wizzro, but have not yet tried to play as Volga. However, I did watch a video to help me get through one of the missions. In that video a the guy was playing Volga and was showing how powerful that character is.

Epona has made her debut in Hyrule Warriors as a "weapon." Selecting her as a weapon allows Link to fight on horseback for the selected mission. I'd also like to note here that I saw a picture of Epona as a kart in the new Legend of Zelda DLC pack for Mario Kart 8, even though i haven't seen her in-game yet.

With the recent release of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, Nintendo released the first set of amiibo figures. Functionality is expected to come to Hyrule Warriors very soon. The Link amiibo (which I purchased) will add a new weapon for Link, which is the Spinner from Twilight Princess. Other amiibo figures, like Zelda, will unlock weapons, rupee bonuses, and crafting materials. I recently just started playing the game's "Adventure Mode," which I think is fun and interesting. In Adventure Mode, you are placed on a world map that comes from the very first Legend of Zelda game for the NES. Each square contains a battle and there are numerous rewards that can be received such as Heart Containers and Gold Skulltulas. There are also items, such as the Candle, that can be used to "search" an area of the map for hidden places. On one of places on the map, I found a tree that could be burned with the Candle, which unlocked a new reward. Some of the rewards are given based upon the rank you receive in a battle. Some can only be unlocked by certain characters, just as some battles can only be fought with certain characters. It also seems as though other rewards include unlocking more weapons and playable characters.

I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game, but playing Hyrule Warriors makes me want to try those games. I have really enjoyed playing Hyrule Warriors very much and I highly recommend the game.

One of the new games they showed off was Hyrule Warriors, a combination of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors. I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game, but consider myself a fan of the Zelda series.

Zelda elements and DLC: Initially, I thought the videos for Hyrule Warriors looked very exciting. There are so many playable characters, stages, and elements from various Zelda games. The game is action-packed and even has DLC. I believe I have all the currently available DLC, which includes many various character costumes and more. At least one DLC is available for a $20 purchase, while some of the other DLC is available for those that pre-ordered the game and also after registering the game at Club Nintendo. It also seems that Epona is or will be available as a weapon via DLC.

While I've had a lot of fun with the game, perhaps the only disappointment I've come across is that it didn't take me very long to beat the main part of the game (Legend Mode) on normal difficulty. I wish the game was much longer, but then again there are plenty of extra modes and things to unlock (like new characters, weapons, etc.). I'm currently working on capturing all the Gold Skulltula. They appear in Legend Mode on normal difficulty only after defeating 1,000 enemies. However, there are more which can only be obtained in hard difficulty and with various conditions, such as a certain character with a certain weapon. I have not yet explored the other game modes (Free Mode, Adventure Mode, etc.).

Hyrule Warriors is definitely one of my most favorite games on the Wii U. I haven’t checked out the 3DS version though.

An Upcoming Zelda Game on the Wii U: Hyrule Warriors

Nintendo dropped a new trailer for the upcoming Zelda game Hyrule Warriors recently. Not a lot is known about the game but we can glean a few things from the video. First off it looks like you can swing your sword at bad guys. Secondly, it looks like you can attack many bad guys at once.

Seriously though, the game play does look great and I imagine because of the increased horse power of the Wii U they can make a Zelda game with a ton more enemies on the screen.

What do you think of Hyrule Warriors? With every new game it seems the reason to pickup a Wii U is more compelling as Nintendo is really hitting a segment of gaming that is very unique and interesting.

An important note about this game-- it isn't exactly a Zelda game. It's a Dynasty Warriors game set in Hyrule. It's one of an increasingly long list of spinoffs to the juggernaut of a series. Tecmo Koei, the team behind the Dynasty Warriors series, is handling the development of this with models and such provided by Nintendo.

All that said, this looks so incredibly fun. There's something about the Dynasty Warriors formula with the cartoonish Zelda graphics that's incredibly appealing to me.

Sweet! Now that will be my reason to get a Wii U. I wanted one when I first saw things about it before it was out. However, my desire for one slipped (I couldn't afford one anyway until recently). Thanks for the post!

That's a great price point for sure, i'd have few reservations to pick it up for that.

I frequent stores where the Wii U is front and center and the games look much more compelling to me than the XBone & PS4 Basketball/Shooter grind.

That said, who knows when i'll get one :D
