For me, the game never worked in my browser, but it worked in Steam. I tried Chrome and Firefox, with an incognito thrown in to make sure it wasn't an extension. Dunno what's going on there.

But we're back to the situation we discussed in the roundtable. Any game I would buy, I already have. Except GTAV which is on sale today for half off, but I don't know for sure my computer would run it well, and there's no demo. It isn't even easily piratable apparently.

The Monster Game is a much better idea than previous Steam Sale gimmicks. The entire community working together to unlock games is more in the spirit of what a Steam Sale is all about (i.e. it's basically Christmas). One of the sales that is unlocking from this first round is for a game called Creeper World III: Arc Eternal, which looks kind of amazing. It's already on sale for under $5. Maybe, probably...definitely will pick that one up.

The Witcher trilogy is available together for just less than $60. A friend recently got The Witcher III for his XBox One and said it was good. The video I saw yesterday made me think that it is a game I'd most likely enjoy. It seems to be a lot like Skyrim, which to me is a plus. The Assassin's Creed games are on sale, too. I have another friend who's talked a lot about those games and enjoys them. That's tempting to pick up, but I think I'd like to play a demo first. I may, later, look up some game demos on the PS3 for different games I've thought of playing which don't seem to have a Steam demo. Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of those games. It seems to be popular and good, but I think I'd like to try it out first. I'm still not sure how I feel about Origins.

Lately I've been playing Hearthstone and Guild Wars 2. I kind of want to play something different. I *really* want to play Terraria 1.3, but still have a couple of weeks to go. So, I might find something else to fill in that time.

My favorit part of the Steam Sale: making money! I've been playing the clicker game briefly on my phone (not a fantastic experience on my phone), and I've earned Steam cards that have been selling for 10 cents each. It's not much, but it's always fun to get paid for nothing.

Now to figure out Bitcoins...

You two are having a different experience than I am. I haven't played the sale game yet, but I bought some games! =) I decided to go with The Witcher Trilogy and I'm playing them in order. Combat took a little figuring out/getting used to, but I think I have it just about mastered now. I'm enjoying it. Essentially, it seems that I paid for a slightly discounted Witcher 3 and got the other two games for free.

Looking back at old posts about the games, I found that Travis mentioned Burnout Paradise in one. I played one of the Burnout games a few years ago and thought it was cool. Since BP was only $10, I went ahead and got it.

Is anyone else picking up some games? Feel free to check my trading cards and offer trades. I have 1, 4, 5, and 7 of 10. I have an extra 5 and 7.

This is probably the first Steam sale I've really taken advantage of and I'm not sure if I'm done. I'm tempted to get Jurassic Park and maybe the Assassin's Creed games.

Jurassic Park seems like a good game from the reviews, but it's also short. It sounds like it's worth it's value now that it's on sale, though.

In fact, this year I came out of the sale with more money in my Steam wallet than when I started. I sold off all my trading card doubles as well as each 2015 Summer Sale card I received. Now I have $1.68 and if I keep selling cards a bit at a time I might have enough to buy an extra copy of Terraria or something small.

If you are a modern PC gamer more than likely you have bought a game on Steam. And if you have a large Steam library I imagine you've purchased games you wish you could return. In the era where more and more of our entertainment is purchased digitally I was very happy to see Valve drop a new Steam Refund policy. It's pretty simple and I encourage you to read it. The main points are pretty simple.

"The Steam refund offer, within two weeks of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime, applies to games and software applications on the Steam store. Here is an overview of how refunds work with other types of purchases."

It seems pretty simple and straight forward and like anything new it is coming under some pretty heavy criticism. I linked a recent Game/Show video above where Jamin isn't too happy with the 2 hour return clause and cites other developers as well as some Indie games that can be completed in less than 2 hours.

As someone that created a video game website and is now getting into the business of game publishing with Starship Rubicon(buy it now kids, it's great) I can honestly say I applaud Valve for this new policy. Is it perfect? No it isn't but when you try something new it often doesn't cover every use case right away.

Should Valve offer refunds to players that pre-ordered a huge triple A blockbuster that can't be played on day one, is a buggy mess or didn't deliver what it promised? Yeah, totally. Should Valve offer refunds to players for Indie titles that can't be played on day one, is a buggy mess or didn't deliver what it promised? Yeah, totally.

That said, some Indie titles are an incredible experience and also very short. I think Valve has the ability to solve that and I imagine at some point they will. They have also said they will police abuse and I also image they will do that as well. Remember Valve doesn't make money if everyone returns everything so they have just an incentive to get sales to stick as a developer.

This new refund policy might not be perfection but it's a really nice step in a world where digital goods are a big part of our lives.

Oh, I'm totally on board for this! I don't see it losing companies too much money, if anything, it will help ensure good games make money and bad games make less money. Now people can essentially play a demo of any game and if they like it, they can keep it (as paid for) and if it's bad, refund time. So, this may encourage people to take more leaps on games they may be on the fence about if there's less risk involved in getting landed with a a game they'll never play again.

I know for me, I've bought games and later either never played it or tried it once and realized it's buggy or just awful or doesn't run that great on my PC.

PT was not a for-sale game. It was a freely downloadable demo (PT actually stands for Playable Teaser) for the now cancelled Silent Hills project (just sayin', Jamin!).

I think there may be a little too much concern over the 2 hour stipulation, and how that pertains to shorter games. Gone Home, Lifeless Planet, Journey (not on Steam, but for the sake of argument...)... These are games that can be clocked in at under 2 hours, and yet they charge a $20 entry fee. The question is: Is that a fair cost? The New York Times called Gone Home "...the greatest video game love story ever told.” I've played a lot of games, so whether literal or metaphorical, that's a huge statement, and one that might cause some people to think about purchasing a game they might otherwise pass by. Some have made that purchase, finished the game (because it is so short), and felt cheated, not only by the game play, but by the story (arguably the prime focus of the game). I'd say that warrants a refund. On the other hand, people that rave about their experience in Gone Home are not likely to return the game, and this appears to be the majority experience. Taking an alarmist stance that this could jeopardize the sales of shorter indie games or discourage developers from making smaller projects, might be a bit premature. I would hope that, if anything, it will encourage developers to determine a better price point for such experiences, and maybe work that much harder to make their games worth buying, much less worth playing. I think that, as gamers, we all know how easy it is for developers to make a crap game look really good.

It all ties together with what we perceive as a game, and what value we are looking for in our games. I personally think that games journalists are too lenient on art games in the consumer space. Half of these games are tantamount to emotive tech demoes, and pricing is all over the place. Should a project like that constitute a $20 price tag? It all depends on the demand of the consumer, I guess. I would never trade in my copy of Journey, but if I had paid retail money for Lifeless Planet, I probably would have taken advantage of the refund. Portal was in that 2-3hr play time, and it's only $10. The tech in Portal is much more innovative and complex than what we get in Gone Home, yet the latter is twice the price. As a parallel, on the iTunes store, movies range in length from 1hr to 4hrs, with prices from $10 to $20. How much do short films cost? $3! That's reasonable, and there is an expectation that goes along with that, because we are given appropriate information to make that distinction.

Maybe, the whole "games as art" conversation has blinded us to the fact that we are ultimately dealing with an economy that regards products of entertainment, and not some objectivity in fine art. You can say that Proteus is the epitome of what it means to feel in a virtual environment, but at the end of the day, it's a product that costs $10 to the consumer. After the game has been played and experienced, the emotional value to the consumer may change, but initially It's either worth that $10 investment, or it isn't, and (I guess this is my way of saying) I appreciate the scope with which Valve is taking to apply refunds if it isn't. Reviews can often be biased, but the consumer speaks with their wallet. Beyond that, I think that if people feel like they are getting a fair deal, even if they aren't completely satisfied with the purchase, they'll keep the game. Valve makes it clear that they are aware of the opportunity for abuse. Let's see how they handle that.

Maybe we are blinded, but I wasn't considering art when I wrote what I did. People making games, I think most of them, understand the money part or at least the ones I talk to making games seem to talk about it often enough. As far being objective or your thought that the press is too lenient on art games I think that may be true. I haven't played any of the games you cite, Hearthstone just seems more fun to play right now. But they seem to have garnered pretty solid reviews on Steam, which I think means most people liked them.

I totally agree that the majority that enjoyed the game won't return them and even if there are some that do it's better to have someone get a refund then them be upset at you for whatever reason. In some cases, i've wanted to refund a copy of Starship Rubicon through Desura but I didn't see a way to do that. I think the persons PC was messed up and I don't think the game caused a problem but i'd rather people be happy than make an extra sale considering we already don't make very much as is.

I also think there is some form of perspective bias happening here too. Is it WILDY great for people buying games(the majority) to return something they consider bad? Totally is. So it's strange (to me) some devs are wildly flagging this is bad as it's just so obviously good for people/consumers/gamers. We can return physical goods after a time, why not digital?

I wasn't directing anything at you, specifically, but speaking toward the universal "we" in game culture. In fact, I agree with what you are saying. I guess I was responding more to Jamin's comments on the matter (as if he's reading!). Your point in your last comment, Jon, I think nails it more directly, regarding developer concerns. However, I find it interesting that instead of doing a normal show on this topic, Jamin decides to do an opinion piece. He appears to be part of the problem here. He misleads by stating the terms of the refunds are "unconditional," an untruth, since there are clear conditions printed on the refunds page, especially regarding DLC and in-game purchases (e.g. "...so long as the DLC has not been consumed, modified or transferred."). On top of that, there doesn't really seem to be a significant concern from the broad landscape of developers, rather only from a very select few (3, as far as I can tell. Qwiboo, PuppyGames, and Nina Freeman). Jamin mentions Nina Freeman directly, relaying her concerns (her words here: https://goo.gl/SAfQKD, which include Brianna Wu's inflammatory statement that Steam refunds are "brutally unfair for indie developers."). Nina Freeman, to this point, has only ever released free-to-play games. Why is her opinion on refunds even relevant?

I agree this may be overblown for sure. Media has a way of blowing out issues to get clicks. I think that's a fair critique. That said after driving up to a Indie Game event last night in Eugene and talking to my game dev friends, people are wondering how it will work out in the end. No one I know has outright said it's a bad idea, but I think they note that it's challenging "making it" as a game developer and this could hurt some people. There isn't a huge amount of good news for aspiring developers, to some thing might seem like more of the bad. I don't agree, but I think I see where they are coming from.

Oh I'm so disappointed! When there was talk of a new hero units, I thought ok, they didn't want to make a whole new class yet with new class cards etc, so they are doing just new hero characters for the existing classes.

I don't find buying a car to be analogous with this. Previously, everything in game was attainable, but now it's not. I feel disappointment is a legitimate reaction to finding out that a piece of the game has to be bought now.

Thankfully it's just a skin, so it won't affect gameplay.

Right, it was a joke based on some criticism i've been seeing about this. Hearthstone is a free to play game and like other free to play games is getting into the customization/skin for pay business. I think this is a good model to keep the game making enough money so I don't have to pay for it, or I might, I am still not sure.

Tavern Brawl!

Each week, a diifferent Tavern Brawl will pit you head to head versus another player using exciting and unique rules. One week might feature preset decks, while another week could have you crafting a brand new Tavern Brawl deck following specific guidelines, while others might offer buffs to specific minion types-who knows!

I'm very happy to see this coming. I'm kinda at a point where the gameplay is getting a bit old, and I look forward to this new mode!

If you want some Steam hardware as soon as it's ready, whether that's a Steam Machine, controller, Steam Link, or a combination, Valve's put up their preorder page. The Link and the controller come straight from Steam, or you can get Alienware machines from Gamestop, or Syber machines straight from them.

The controller and Link are $49.99 each, or you can get them bundled. There's no cost savings there, but it's a bit of a convenience.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty - Super Mario Brothers 2

Cygnus Destroy has a new Innocent Until Proven Guilty Video I wanted to share. I enjoy his take on the classics and have really enjoyed his series since I started subscribing last year. In his latest video he looks at Super Mario Brothers 2. Super Mario Brothers 2 is my favorite Mario game and only in the last few years did I discover the blow back this game has received. Some consider this not a proper Mario sequel because it existed first as Doki Doki Panic. Bethesda releases Fallout 4 trailer!

It actually, officially exists. No more rumor mill. Fallout 4 has a trailer! And oooooh does it look incredible. Not much gameplay is shown but the environments are beautiful. It looks like a tweaked Skyrim engine, which makes sense since Fallout 3 and New Vegas were built on a tweaked Oblivion engine.

I don't mean to stomp on anyones fun train but after watching this I was interested, but wasn't excited. All the trailer showed, in my view, was what we've seen before. I mean the world is much brighter and full of color but you have a vault dweller and Dog same as in the previous game. They used the same "war never changes" quote and same old timey music. I know this is all Fallout-esque and such but, again, based on what I saw I wasn't excited.

That said, depending on what comes out about the game at the E3 press conference it might look different, but right now it just looks like a game i've already played.

What I was particularly excited about was the flashbacks to the moments before nuclear fallout, causing me to think that this is going to be a prequel of sorts, much in the same way Bioshock Infinite was to it's series. I wouldn't be surprised if we actually get to play in a pre-apocalypse environment at some point in Fallout 4. Also, the colors. Colors in a Fallout game always excite me :D.

I think part of it too, is just the excitement of being in another environment that Bethesda has created, and that we'll be able to do that relatively soon. I've seen people on other forums talk about how the trailer doesn't look that impressive, that the graphics look dated. Which is fine, if that's your takeaway. Part of my excitement comes just as much from what I'm personally bringing to the trailer viewing: the excitement of another Fallout game, the "built with tweaked Skyrim engine" and the feelings that statement conjures from years drooling over Skyrim, the idea of playing all of this on my couch through my PS4... It's like a mini Christmas :).

I've never played a Fallout game. They've always looked interesting, but I've just never picked one up and played it. This game looks amazing, and thankfully doesn't have any "seen it" quality to me, so I hope to play it at some point :)

Well, people in vault suits, dogs, and Ron Perlman saying "War never changes" have been in every Fallout game since Fallout 1 back in 97. It's like every Mario trailer has goombas, mushrooms, and the princess. BUT I see your point. This trailer really only showed off the environment and the new engine, both of which look spectacular. And really I can't imagine them giving too much plot away in the trailers, so the only thing left is real gameplay, which I hope we see a lot of at E3. Still, the environment is all I needed to see. If it was literally only a silent flyover of the new environment I'd be just as excited as I am now. The presentation with the pre-war scenes and music from the Ink Spots was just icing on the cake. Really, New Vegas was just Fallout 3 in a different setting. Identical engine, a few tweaks, but as far as "looking like a game I've already played," it certainly did, and I may have enjoyed it even more than 3. I certainly don't want them to deviate too far from what Fallout is, and this basically said "It's Fallout with nicer graphics in a new place," and that's all I needed to hear :)

From what I've heard rumored that seems to be panning out, this will be taking place very shortly after Fallout 3. I do hope the flashback scenes weren't just for the trailer, and we get to see the pre-war era in game.

So I may or may not have pre-ordered it already. I just couldn't help myself. It may look like a couple games I've already played, but I've really enjoyed those games so far, so I'm happy for the new graphics, setting, and vocal protagonist.

Plus I really want to snipe Super Mutants from on top of the Green Monster.

Interestingly, someone claiming to be a former Bethesda employee "spoiled" some info about Fallout 4 last year, and was downvoted heavily, but this trailer is proving some things. It's still unclear if it was just a lucky guess, but if it was accurate, it seems that there's going to be a single protagonist (with minimal character customization) that actually has voiced dialogue. The game will be more story-driven that previous Fallouts, again, if the information is accurate. And interestingly, Fallout 4 will be released next year, a year after the main release, on PS3 and 360, with the ability to import save files to potentially affect the game in Fallout 4. Heroes of The Storm Drops Today - Johanna Character Revealed

Blizzards Heroes of the Storm finally launched today. During the launch party live stream they talked about the new Crusader hero that will soon be added to the game. Johanna looks like a pretty beefy powerhouse that melee characters should enjoy playing.

Blizzard also is giving away a free in game Mechanospider mount for free if you play a Facebook game. I did it and it's not too bad but is currently experiencing some issues with a zillion people trying to play it.
