It's the time to hide yo' wallets because the Steam Summer Sales is finally here. Like the years before you can buy a load of games for a steep discount. As usual try and hunt for a flash sale as they seem to net you the most savings.

This year is a bit different as Valve has a new Cookie Clicker-esque game called Tower Attack where you join the ranks of other Steam users clicking bad guys and taking them down together. You can upgrade your character to attack automagically so as such I recommend sinking skill points into the Auto Fire Cannon and Advanced Targeting. If the community beats enough bosses in the next 16 hours we will unlock some deep discounts on the games of that day along with special trading cards.

What games are you planning on picking up in the sale? Are you going to play Tower Attack and if so, what do you think of it? As always, the conversation is in the comments.

For me, the game never worked in my browser, but it worked in Steam. I tried Chrome and Firefox, with an incognito thrown in to make sure it wasn't an extension. Dunno what's going on there.

But we're back to the situation we discussed in the roundtable. Any game I would buy, I already have. Except GTAV which is on sale today for half off, but I don't know for sure my computer would run it well, and there's no demo. It isn't even easily piratable apparently.

I didn't play the game, but I read about it. There are a ton of games that are on sale! No many caught my attention, but I ended up following some. The Quake pack is tempting, for one thing.

I've been waiting for the sale to see if State of Decay: YOSE would drop in price, and it has! Now I'll wait to see if it hits the Flash sale...

A few other games that I picked up for dirty-dirt cheap:

  • Sir, You Are Being Hunted
  • Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride
  • Aeon Command

Might possibly pick up one, maybe two of the following:
  • Valkyria Chronicles
  • Tales from the Borderlands
  • Metro: Redux
  • Legend of Grimrock II
  • Hand of Fate
  • eeh...pretty much anything on my wishlist.

The Monster Game is a much better idea than previous Steam Sale gimmicks. The entire community working together to unlock games is more in the spirit of what a Steam Sale is all about (i.e. it's basically Christmas). One of the sales that is unlocking from this first round is for a game called Creeper World III: Arc Eternal, which looks kind of amazing. It's already on sale for under $5. Maybe, probably...definitely will pick that one up.

I'm considering Valkyria Chronicles. This is after playing through twice on PS3. That game is a masterpiece.

The Witcher trilogy is available together for just less than $60. A friend recently got The Witcher III for his XBox One and said it was good. The video I saw yesterday made me think that it is a game I'd most likely enjoy. It seems to be a lot like Skyrim, which to me is a plus. The Assassin's Creed games are on sale, too. I have another friend who's talked a lot about those games and enjoys them. That's tempting to pick up, but I think I'd like to play a demo first. I may, later, look up some game demos on the PS3 for different games I've thought of playing which don't seem to have a Steam demo. Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of those games. It seems to be popular and good, but I think I'd like to try it out first. I'm still not sure how I feel about Origins.

Lately I've been playing Hearthstone and Guild Wars 2. I kind of want to play something different. I *really* want to play Terraria 1.3, but still have a couple of weeks to go. So, I might find something else to fill in that time.

My favorit part of the Steam Sale: making money! I've been playing the clicker game briefly on my phone (not a fantastic experience on my phone), and I've earned Steam cards that have been selling for 10 cents each. It's not much, but it's always fun to get paid for nothing.

Now to figure out Bitcoins...

I've been selling off excess Steam trading cards + the sale trading cards and I now have 96 cents. I hope to have a couple bucks in a few days to buy a game. smile

You two are having a different experience than I am. I haven't played the sale game yet, but I bought some games! =) I decided to go with The Witcher Trilogy and I'm playing them in order. Combat took a little figuring out/getting used to, but I think I have it just about mastered now. I'm enjoying it. Essentially, it seems that I paid for a slightly discounted Witcher 3 and got the other two games for free.

Looking back at old posts about the games, I found that Travis mentioned Burnout Paradise in one. I played one of the Burnout games a few years ago and thought it was cool. Since BP was only $10, I went ahead and got it.

Is anyone else picking up some games? Feel free to check my trading cards and offer trades. I have 1, 4, 5, and 7 of 10. I have an extra 5 and 7.

scrypt   Supporter wrote on 06/21/2015 at 08:43pm

Valkyria Chronicles came back down to $4.99. *whew! I was hoping it would dip lower, and instead it went higher. But now it's back. I know you guys were worried. It's all good.

Anyone blitzing today, or did we all get what we wanted from this slashfest?

Azurephile   Super Member wrote on 06/21/2015 at 08:52pm

Having bought the Witcher Trilogy (bundle) and Burnout Paradise, I've already bought more games than usual at one time. I don't mind though, I saved some money and believe I got some good games (so far I've only played The Witcher). This is probably the first Steam sale I've really taken advantage of and I'm not sure if I'm done. I'm tempted to get Jurassic Park and maybe the Assassin's Creed games.

Travis   Admin wrote on 06/22/2015 at 02:35am

I have literally not bought anything this time around. I'm cool with that. I have enough to keep me going for a while. I'll hold off til the Christmas sale. :)

jdodson   Admin   Post Author wrote on 06/22/2015 at 02:54am

Me too Travis. I could spend the next year replaying stuff smile

Azurephile   Super Member wrote on 06/22/2015 at 02:56am

I think I'm good now. I have 4 games to play and for now that's plenty. I'd like to investigate Assassin's Creed some more and perhaps figure out this demo on the PS3. Jurassic Park seems like a good game from the reviews, but it's also short. It sounds like it's worth it's value now that it's on sale, though.

In fact, this year I came out of the sale with more money in my Steam wallet than when I started. I sold off all my trading card doubles as well as each 2015 Summer Sale card I received. Now I have $1.68 and if I keep selling cards a bit at a time I might have enough to buy an extra copy of Terraria or something small.
