As I'm playing Skyrim on my new PC, I can't help but to be reminded of the other games in The Elder Scrolls series, particularly Morrowind and Oblivion. These three are the only games in the series that I've played. I love Skyrim and Oblivion and how beautiful they are. Morrowind isn't a bad game, but it isn't as beautiful and I wish it looked more like Skyrim and Oblivion.

This brings me to a new point of discussion. What games would you like to see completely remade to look better? I don't mean just given an HD remake.

I know many of us would like to see Final Fantasy VII redone in the same way, although I'd also like to see FFVIII and IX redone, too.

Also, I mentioned months ago that I found the Diablo II Battle Chest at KMart for about $2. I spent very little time playing it. Although I'm not one who believes that graphics make a game, I couldn't get passed my disappointment in the way the game looks. I'm sure it was great for it's time, but compared to Diablo III, it looked ugly.

When you say "I don't mean just given an HD remake" are you referring to a game that has been rereleased with improved graphics like what Nintendo did with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker? (http://cheerfulghost.com/jdodson/posts/1604)

Are you wanting a game that perhaps takes a 2D game and makes it 3D? Possibly different game mechanics, but the same story?

Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy X, and X-2 also got HD remakes, but that's not exactly what I'm referring to. That kind of remake is nice, although I haven't gotten any of them. As for taking a 2D game and making it a 3D game, no that's not really what I mean. What I mean is remaking a game such as Morrowind to have updated graphics so that it looks like Skryim. So, in other words, a full graphical overhaul. For instance, when the PS3 came out, we were teased with an updated-looking Final Fantasy VII technical trailer. Unfortunately, nothing more came out of it. Luckily, I do get to enjoy an updated piece of Morrowind thanks to Skryim's Dragonborn DLC.

There are fan mods under way to do just that with the Elder Scroll games @ http://tesrenewal.com. Pretty cool, actually.

HD remakes seem to range between a polygon boost to 1080p, in something like Beyond Good & Evil, to updated texture packs in a new engine, like Bionic Commando: ReArmed (or as a friend of mine referred to it "Rear Med"). I prefer when they leave the game alone, but raise the resolution output, and I'd love to see a large handful of original XBox games see this treatment. The Otogi games, Darkwatch, Jade Empire, to name a few.

Oh my goodness, Scrypt, that link is awesome! I may have to check that out, that could be just what I was wanting. That could also be what gets me started with Mods. Thanks!!! Have you played any of those?

I haven't played any of the games you've mentioned, though I seem to recognize the names of a few you listed. I had an original XBox many years ago when the big three consoles included it, the PS2, and the Gamecube. I had all three consoles actually and I enjoyed them all. I let a roommate keep the original XBox I owned, but my favorite games for it were Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Grand Theft Auto series. I ended up buying another original Xbox (maybe over a year ago) so that I could play Buffy again (I bought the game again, too).

I haven't had the chance to play any of the renewed builds, but the video I've seen looks impressive.

I guess the original Xbox games are significant for me because they seem to be the most abandoned. Nintendo and Sony have done a fairly respectable job of honoring their history, though it hasn't been the easiest thing on the wallet. Even in emulation, the Xbox is the outlier. It would be nice if those games could see the light of day again.

Agreed, losing games in any generation is pretty crappy. There were some really cool xbox games too. Gauntlet Dark Legacy comes to mind.

FFVII is my top candidate for a game that needs an HD remake. Although I don't think I want anything more than a graphical update, since the game itself is already pretty awesome.

A game I would love to get a full working-over is probably Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. I love this game, and in a few ways it's actually better than the previous installment, but it's rushed development time meant that there was a TON of content cut from the game. The story up until about the last couple hours of gameplay is awesome, but the ending is utter crap. There's actually a mod for the PC version that adds in a lot of the cut content (I have the xbox version, so I haven't tried the mod) but I would still love to see the original developers get the chance to take another shot at it. :)

WBS, do you want to see FFVII get a simply HD remake, like FFX, or do you want to see a complete graphical overhaul, like that technical trailer showed? I agree with you that nothing in the game should change.

Games that could use an update:

* Spaceward Ho for PC, Mac and Linux. There is an iPhone port and it's great, but i'd love to get it on PC too.

* Secret of Mana. Simply fix up the controls and put it in Widescreen aspect ratio. The recent iPhone port isn't great.
