Last week PopCap launched Bejeweled Stars which is their latest free-to-play mobile puzzler that takes everything we all love about match three games and brings it up a notch. Bejeweled is a classic game and this latest entry does it justice while realizing that other games like Candy Crush have dominated this space for quite some time. I was never a huge Candy Crush player, it just never really was something I enjoyed playing for very long but Bejeweled Stars seems to have a special something about it I really like.

If you despise the free-to-play mobile virtual currency pay to get power ups model this game won't be for you. There are a ton of ways they use to get you to buy virtual currency but none of it is needed to advance in the main game. Occasionally you lose a level and burn through lives and need to wait to continue, but I don't find that to be annoying.

Bejeweled Stars adds a few features to the traditional match three game that I found neat. Some levels feature butterfly blocks that when you don't match them out, flutter around the screen. This makes for some interesting gameplay as moving blocks can really help... or hurt your game. In some levels you need to match out a certain number of butterflies and other types of blocks making for some really fun scenarios.

If you are looking for a low-key free game on your phone I recommend you check out Bejeweled Stars. It's a fun puzzler that may not be the deepest game your going to play this year but sometimes we only have a few minutes and why not spend it matching blocks?

Currently I am at level 35 and i'd like to know what you think about the game and how far you've progressed so drop your thoughts in the comments. If you attach your game to your Facebook account and we are friends on Facebook hit me up in game, I am interested to see how the social part of Bejeweled Stars works.

Two Dots killed me on that lives model where you have to wait to play. @scrypt knows what I'm talking about.

Two Dots can burn in hell.

Hahahaha, not sure I've quite experienced anything like that with this one but I'll let you know if I do.

So I was right. Scrypt DOES know what I'm talking about. :D

Yeah seriously, it was painful when you get to the high levels and you get stuck on one for literally days because you can only play 15 minutes a day.

With Bejeweled Stars, they have effectively found every sight and sound that is stimulating to gamers, and put it all in one game. If this was VR, I would never leave. Currently at level 11.

OK I'll try it. If scrypt (who got as annoyed with Two Dots as I did) likes it, I might.

I standby my virtual heroin comment. This may be one of the most polished games I've played.

Having quite a hard time with level 41. If anyone gets that far and has any tips for beating it, let me know.

I just matched a cosmic cube and a star gem. OMG. They should have sent a poet...

Hypercube, sorry. Also, Dark Spheres?!!

Yeah, there are a lot of different pieces to keep track of. I keep forgetting what clears entire lines. I like the ones that zap all the pieces off the screen though, those are really handy.

Stuck on level 51. Here is where I get annoyed with games like this. Near impossible to clear without special items. Bleh.

scrypt   Supporter wrote on 05/20/2016 at 08:23pm

Of course. I just passed it. I was stuck on that level since yesterday. Maybe I just needed to bitch about it ;).

I agree, things get really hard. I am on 48 and I find that if I just keep coming back and plugging away I can make it through.

So, apparently I'm immune to the Bejeweled magic. I remember people freaking out about it back at the turn of the century, back when it was just PopCap, and I tried it. Didn't stick with it.

I got to level 10 or 11 on Bejeweled Stars, and... yeah I just don't care that much about the gameplay. I haven't even gotten to a point where I could get annoyed by the pay-for-lives model.

Good for me, since there are games that will eat up time coming out or recently released. :D

Far Harbor and Doom?

And Terraria, yep!
