Excitebike on Nes

Cheerful Ghost Games Club is back with Excitebike!

You may remember this semi-regular CG event where we pick a game and invite everyone to come play it with us and discuss what we think. This time, we're changing things up a bit. We will do one game a month (or maybe more!) and tying the events into a Cheerful Ghost Radio series about classic games.

We'll review the games in an episode following the event, and include opinions and commentary from people who joined and chatted with us about it.

This month's game is Excitebike! Excitebike is an NES racing game that has been a fan favorite since its launch with the NES. In addition to the main tracks, Excitebike lets you build your own tracks and save them back to the cart. It has spawned a few sequels and references in other Nintendo titles over the years. Join us as we talk about the first racing game on the NES!

Very EXCITEbiked for this. I like that we are doing classic NES reviews in CG Radio but opening up the games club the month before we review the game to everyone should be a fun way to do it.

Looking forward to what people think heading back to Excitebike!

Time to see if Excitebike can live up to my nostalgic memories.
Making my own tracks was always so cool! (How many decades before Mario Maker? Lol)

That was one of the first things I thought of in that Excitebike must have somewhat influenced Mario Maker.

Super Mario Kart 8 has an excitebike course.

On the Wii U or the Switch? (Or both?)

Will_Ball   Game Mod   Super Member wrote on 01/29/2018 at 07:59pm

Both. The Wii U version is a paid DLC I believe. The Switch version comes with it.

Ah, I've refused to buy any of the DLC, as cool as it looks.

It's a really fun course!

Wait, is this event still happening? I thought it was next Sunday, but now it looks like it was last Sunday?

Yeah, it should be going until Feb 25th I think Travis just added in the wrong end date. Should be updated when he gets to that.

Yeah sorry about that. I first set it up to start on the day I was working on. It said that I couldn't start it in the past (even though it was the present) and I think it reset the end date then.

Ah, gotcha :)

So I actually played this yesterday as today I have church and then the Super Bowl :)

My main criticism of the game are the sounds. This game could have benefited greatly from a soundtrack. Eventually I got so annoyed of the sounds that I quit playing. I suppose I probably could have muted the game and played more, but instead, I played Mike Tyson's Punchout lol.

You can’t go wrong with Punchout

Been playing this the last couple nights and I quite enjoy it. Not sure how much I want to say in advance to our review episode, but it's just as solid a game as I remember when I played this on the NES.
