As of today, Bioware has announced that SWTOR is officially free-to-play. Along with it comes a new playable area, a new companion, and new quests. What do you think? If you haven't played it, will this get you to try it? If you have played it, do you think the new players will liven things up?

I'm just about to download this and see what all the fuss is about. Oddly, it doesn't seem Origin has caught up to this being free-to-play. I was going to jump into Origin as part of this process as well, just to try it out, since I've never touched it before.
For quite some time EA has been saying Star Wars: The Old Republic will go free to play. They recently dropped some details on how that will work.

I think the big take away from this list is that everything will be limited for free to play users with the story being one exception. The limitations don't seem to restrictive, but we will know more when free to play is available.

If you make any purchase at all the game unlocks:

  • The ability to run faster (Sprint) starting at Level 1.

  • Cargo Hold access (Bank Slots) and higher login queue priority.

  • Increased access to Chat and Secure Trading.

Yes it is on the list. And now it can be talked about. This game has taken me away from WoW in a very positive way. I like the Bioware spin too an MMO. They stated in the beginning that they were not going to reinvent the wheel but give their take on what an MMO should be. This gave people the impression of another Rift style WoW clone. But they have taken the game to a unique level and I am having a great time in TOR. They are always improving the game and sometimes those changes cut into peak game time but I am finding it well worth it.
