Generally speaking video game movies ain't great. Don't get me wrong, I have a special place in my heart for The Super Mario Brothers Movie & The Wizard it's just that.. most of them are not amazing. So I have a bit of trepidation that come with the new string of video game movies coming out. That said, the new Assassin's Creed trailer that dropped looks really good. I know there are more than a couple Assassin's Creed fans here so what do you think, does this look like something you will watch?
Okay, I know this isn't Assassin's Creed, it's Assassin's Creed III.
When I first heard the concept of an Assassin in the revolutionary war I was skeptical, but these screens look fricken' awesom.

Interested, but not excited. Love Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Marvel is doing a great job showing that comic book movies can be taken seriously, and be quite successful. If Ubisoft can do the same for video game movies, then hopefully more directors and studios will "get it" and follow suit. I don't think the pool for great stories is as deep in games as it is in comics, but there are gems worth pursuing. Because of what Ubisoft is doing with AC, they don't even need to follow the games specifically (as with this movie), as long as they don't stray too far from the core themes.
I'm not current on the AC games, so I don't know what changes have taken place, but I'm not entirely keen on this rendition of the Animus. I think I get why they went this way (it's visually more interesting), but hopefully the movie will explain, with as much rational movie logic as they can, why that type of apparatus is necessary, and why they need to strap blades on him in the real world. Are they still searching for Pieces of Eden? Also, I'm tired of Kanye.
I am with you there. People are taking these properties more seriously but I think i'll need to experience a few good movies before the thought in my mind changes from "video game movies aren't good" to "video game movies can be great."
I'm more excited about this than I am about the Warcraft movie, for instance. It seems like (at least from what the trailer communicates) that they're pulling off something more interesting.
But yeah. Video game movies aren't good. This might be the one to break the trend but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.
The animus was the first thing I had issue with, like you scrypt. I guess it's possible that this is an Abstergo after some major catastrophe so they had to go back to a primitive animus, but that's definitely not the animus tech we've seen in the game.
And seriously. Kanye was not a good fit for this trailer.
