Aberration is the second DLC for Ark: Survival Evolved. When it comes to the game, each map is an Ark, basically a planet. When it comes to Aberration, youā€™re on an Ark thatā€™s been corrupted. A lot of the new map is actually underground. Apparently the surface is an extremely hazardous place to be, although I havenā€™t been there yet.

There are some cool new creatures. One of the main things about Aberration is that there are no flying creatures. However, there is a creature called a Rock Drake that can climb, turn invisible, and glide. Although you can find Rock Drakes in some biomes, youā€™ll find their... Read All

Itā€™s been two years in the making, but after a few delays, Ark: Survival Evolved has finally come out of Early Access. Since Iā€™ve been following this gameā€™s development from the beginning, I think Iā€™ve been on an interesting journey. Now itā€™s available on PC and consoles, which gives it a wide audience. Included in this release is the new $60 price tag. Luckily, I paid about half of that during Early Access, but I still think itā€™s worth it. There is a season pass available, too, which seems to be $30 at the moment.

Ark has always had something to look forward to, especially monthly content updates. Last year, Studio Wildcard announced Arkā€™s first DLC, Scorched Earth,... Read All

Since Iā€™ve been able to get my hands on it, I thought Iā€™d share what we have, although there is more to come.

In November I posted about the news of Tek Tier making its debut in December, although it was delayed a month. There are links to some good articles in that post, so go check it out. http://cheerfulghost.com/GregoPeck/posts/3163/ark-coming-to-ps4-in-december-release-delay-and-tek-tier

Not all of the Tek Tier was included in Januaryā€™s patch. But the wiki (http://ark.gamepedia.com/Tek_Tier) contains a list of whatā€™s confirmed. Most notably, the ability to have underwater bases is expected to be included in Februaryā€™s patch.

In order to get and use Tek Tier items,... Read All

It looks like Ark is coming to PS4 next month!

It also seems that the game won't be released this "holiday season." It was supposed to come out summer 2015, then pushed to "holiday" 2016, now we're looking at the beginning of next year.

In other big news, it looks like the Tek Tier is coming soon and it looks sweet! See the video embedded in this post. For more info, check out... Read All

There are many types of DLC that gamers have complained about for years. We've heard of on-disc DLC that is developed before the game's release, and the downloadable portion is just an unlock code to get to it. We've heard of day-one DLC that could have been part of the core game (and in some cases, should have been). We all remember horse armor for Oblivion that cost far more than such simple changes should have. But now, we have something new.

Yesterday, the ARK: Scorched Earth expansion pack was released on Steam, for $20. The catch? The game isn't even out yet. This is the first time an Early Access title has received paid DLC, and to my knowledge the first time... Read All

So, a few months ago, I made my very first Ark friend on the official forums. She ended up inviting me to join her on an official server. I was still playing in single player mode and this was also during holiday events, particularly Winter Wonderland when the entire map was covered in snow and temperatures dropped severely. This was not a good time to start a new character without fur armor as I would have frozen. This is a ā€œPvPvEā€ (Player vs. Player vs. Environment) server. Iā€™m really almost never into PvP type games or aspects of games, so that was a large part of my hesitation to join. However, this server pretty much had just made the snow biome the PvP area,... I thought I'd share the news with you that Ark: Survival Evolved is now available for the XBox One. The game is still in development and I've been following it very closely. I don't have an XBox One, but I've been playing this game on my PC since the summer, at least. I think it's a great game and it's certainly very popular. It also has issues which need to be addressed. Right now, I'm waiting for optimization updates. Unfortunately, the PC version doesn't run very well unless you have an extremely high-end GPU like a Titan. I only have a GTX 690 and I don't believe the game takes full advantage of my dual-GPU card. I can get the game to run well by using a command... Read All

*Update 12/2019*

This was written during Arkā€™s Early Access period, which is now over. The game has multiple expansions and at least two more coming. Itā€™s also now available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Todayā€™s hardware is also much more suitable for running it and the game is better optimized.

How I found out about Ark: I can't seem to recall playing any kind of sandbox survival game before Minecrat and Terraria. My son was playing Minecraft before me and it took me a while to jump in. Before doing so, I watched a series on YouTube... Read All
