In case you missed yesterday's big news that possibly crashed Twitter, Minecraft is joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the next DLC. The trailer looks really cool. I don't own a Switch, but I've played all the other versions of Smash Bros. and have enjoyed the game since the first on the N64. I think it's kind of crazy how many characters have been and are being added to Smash Bros, though not necessarily a bad thing. I think having Minecraft in Smash Bros. kind of speaks to just how big and popular Minecraft is. This DLC has been in the works (including "talks") for about 5 years.

Super Smash Bros. was recently released for the Wii U and it looks absolutely awesome on a big screen TV in high-definition! One of the main differences you will notice from the 3DS version is that the graphics do not look the same. This is only one of the differences between the two games. While both games feature the same characters, each version of the game has different stages, although there seems to be some that are shared between the two. Unfortunately, the game lacks the story mode similar to Brawl's "Subspace Emissary," and cut-scenes have apparently been removed according to some sources. I have not played the game enough to verify this and it seems to contradict what I briefly saw when my son was playing the game.
Both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game can interact. You can use the 3DS as a controller or copy your customized characters between the two. This feature is easily accessible by an icon on the main menu of each game. Speaking of controllers, you can also use GameCube controllers with a new adapter for the Wii U.
Along with the Wii U release, Nintendo has also released the first set of amiibo figures, with more sets coming later. These figures can be selected on the character selection screen by placing them on the Wii U GamePad on the bottom left-hand side. They fight on their own, acting as a CPU player. The amiibo character can be customized by selecting the in-game character's color set, equipment, and moves. The amiibo figure stores this information along with the character's level. By playing in the game, they gain experience and can reach level 50.
By registering both games on Club Nintendo, you will receive the soundtrack for the game (two CDs) for free when it is released in March 2015. You will also receive a code for the Mewtwo DLC when it is released next Spring.
So most of us played Duck Hunt on NES and remember the Dog. The Dog that never stopped laughing at our failure. I never really hated the Dog, but some have negative memories of it. In a move I didn't quite foresee, Nintendo is adding the Duck Hunt Dog and Duck to Super Smash Brothers on Wii U. The way they play looks interesting and I can wait to give this character a try.
What do you think, does this new Smash Brothers character look cool enough to use in a Smash match?

Duck Hunt is indeed a new character in the game, but it's not just the dog, the duck is with him, too. This character, called "Duck Hunt," is kind of a like a two-in-one, some what similar to Olimar who is Olimar and his Pikmin. Some of Duck Hunt's special movies includes 8-bit characters that shoot. You can also shoot cans and clay "pigeons" to hurt your enemies. I was delighted to see Duck Hunt in the game. Since I've had the 3DS verson of Super Smash Bros., I've had some time playing with Duck Hunt. Also, when "Duck Hunt" jumps, the duck carries the dog. It's really cool.

Yes, you do, Travis! =) The game comes out in 11 days. I have it pre-ordered along with the new Pokemon games. =)

Oh! I should also mention that Nintendo's amiibo figures are supposedly going to be being released at the same time (in 11 days). I pre-ordered Link for myself and my son chose Fox. I saw something about the Link figure being able to function in Hyrule Warriors. Speaking of Hyrule Warriors, I still love the game. I have completed Legend mode and not yet tried any of the other modes yet. I collected all of the "easy" Gold Skulltulas, but have not yet collected all the more difficult ones. I did also purchase all of the DLC for the game.
Back to Smash Bros., I still don't have a favorite character, I like almost all of them. Over the last few months, I've spent a lot of time with the 3DS version unlocking characters, stages, and doing the various challenges. Both games are supposed to interact some how. On the main menu is a button for the Wii U, which is a feature that is currently unavailable. The stages are supposed to be different in both versions, with the 3DS having more handheld stages (such as a stage based upon The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Train). I'm also sure that while the 3DS is missing the "story" mode, it will be on the Wii U. I have been pretty impressed with the game. Little Mac is really strong! The Villager (from Animal Crossing) is also a cool new character. I thought that the Gamecube version of the game was pretty deep with lots of trophies, but the Wii version expanded upon that and thus so has the 3DS. I expect the Wii U version will be even better than the 3DS version.

Interesting. I wonder how the games will be related?

I'm not sure, but I haven't looked into it. I forgot to mention that the Wii U version will support 8 characters battling together at once on the same stage.

Now that I have the Wii U version of the game, I thought I'd leave a comment about some of it. It seems most of the characters are already unlocked, although I apparently unlocked Falcon. I was surprised that Ganondorf was available on the character selection screen, since I had to unlock him on the 3DS version of the game. The game looks awesome on the big screen TV in high-definition. The graphics do not look like the 3DS version. Sadly, story mode was not included. I read an article that said the creator of the game decided not to include it and the cut scenes since people were uploading them to the Internet. I think I saw my son watching one of them, so maybe cut scenes some where, some how.
There is an amiibo button in the Vault menu (I think). The game will tell you to place the amiibo on the bottom-left side of the game pad to access it. You can customize the amiboo fighter by changing it's color, equipment, and moves. I added my Link amiibo, gave him some of the strongest available equipment, and changed his outfit color to blue. Other abilities were not available, perhaps they will be in due time. To get the amiibo to fight in a Smash game, you have to select the customize option on the game. Then, you can put the amiibo on the game pad and select which character place it will be. It sounds confusing, but it's not. My amiibo played on its own and I even watched and lose to Zelda. It did level up to 6 or 7 and it can level up to 50.
The 3DS version of the game can connect to the Wii U version by using the 3DS icon on the main menu of the Wii U game or the Wii U icon on the main menu on the 3DS game. You can use the 3DS as another controller and you can copy over customizations back and forth between the two versions of the game.
The game manual also shows that a GameCube controller can be used to play the game using a new adapter. I'm not sure if this adapter is available yet.
I may make a main post about the game later after I spend some more time playing it.

I made a correction in my Super Smash Bros. post about the amiibo figure/character. You don't have to turn on "Custom Fighters" on the character selection screen, just put the amiibo on the designated spot on the GamePad. I've just start doing team battles with my amiibo Link.

This is fun, with very few issues, and is well worth your time.

Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS is actually more fun than I thought it would be. There are so many different game modes and ways to play the game. Players can play the game and it's various modes solo or with other players online or locally via wireless networking. It seems the only mode that's missing is the kind-of-like story mode that was on the Wii version, which I'm sure will be on the Wii U version. There are many new characters, stages, and items to unlock.

Wii U version and amiibos: The game will get even more fun once the Wii U version is out because both versions can apparently interact with each other. Also, Nintendo is releasing it's new amiibo figures with the launch of the Wii U version of the game. These figures can be placed on the Wii U game pad. They store information about the character and collect stats, level up, etc. The new 3DS LL will apparently also have a spot on it for use with the amiibo figures, but other versions of the 3DS are going to be able to use them with a new accessory. Unfortunately, it seems that we won't see that accessory until some time next year.
Graphically, one of the things I first noticed about the 3DS version of the game is that characters have an outline. I found out, by watching some videos on Nintendo's channel or eShop, that this was created to help the characters stand out from the background and therefore easier to see. However, the outline can be adjusted (made thinner) or removed in the game's settings.
Classic video game characters: This new generation of the game is historical. It is the first game to include famous video game original characters such as Mario, Pac Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog. You won't find another game on any other console that has these original video game pioneers. The 3DS version of the game is also the very first hand held Smash Bros. game.
The game's characters can also be customized with various pieces of equipment and items found along with their various moves. Note that characters in this new generation of the game have more moves than in previous versions. Characters can also be created based upon a Mii character. These characters can be a brawler, sword fighter, or gunner.
Challenges: I have not yet unlocked everything, but I've managed to unlock some things. Right now, one of my favorite features is a Challenges menu item, which tells you a challenge that's required to unlock that block. Completing challenges unlocks other items as well. I already finished the first panel of challenges and am on the second one now. Some challenges include playing Smash as a certain character or on a certain stage a certain amount of times. There is also a golden hammer that can be used to unlock a block instead of completing the challenge. I've found this helpful because some challenges aren't as easy to complete, such as the StreetSmash challenges.
Recommendation and demo:I think if you have a 3DS or 2DS and are a fan of the game series, you should pick up a copy of this version. There is also a free demo on Nintendo's eStore that you can download and play a limited amount of times. I look forward to playing the game more, completing challenges, and being able to use the new amiibo figures. I had pre-ordered the game, mostly because my son was enjoying the demo. I was more interested in the Wii U version, which comes out next month. However, I decided to get myself a copy of the game as well, which makes sense since my son and I each have our own 3DS and I wanted to have my own game file. I also reserved a copy of the Wii U version and two amiibo figures.

You know, I kind of don't think of Captain Falcon as an F-zero character anymore. I know that's where he started but I primarily know him as a Smash Bros. staple character now. Besides, this is clearly a "Falcon Punch / 'Show me your moves' " reference. :P
