Developed by Hello Games

A science-fiction game set in an infinite, procedurally-generated galaxy.

I just noticed via Steam an announcement about the newest No Man's Sky Prisms update. I've decided I'm not going to get into the details. Trust me, watch the trailer (embedded link). This update definitely feels more like something you have to see instead of read about. That's because this update seems to pretty much be about making the game look better and it does.

I'm really happy about this, but I played NMS recently and even though I enjoyed it, I ended up finding myself feeling a bit bored. I was constantly doing the same thing, pretty much just trying to jump from black hole to black hole to get to the center of the galaxy quicker. Unfortunately, even though... Read All

If you have some friends that also play NMS, you can now play together in a special "Expeditions" mode. It looks like there's a set path along with rewards. You also start off with some gear and stuff. I just saw this on Steam and thought I'd share, since I know quite a few of us here play NMS. I haven't played it in a while and I'm not sure when I'll play it again, but if someone wants to try this out, I might be up for it. Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think.

It's been a long time since I've seriously played No Man's Sky. I mostly played it around it's launch and not too much after. It's received a lot of updates since then, so there's a lot of content I've not yet explored. Well, it looks like NMS is "the gift that keeps on giving." A new trailer has been released showing off the Companions update and honestly, I think it looks great. Maybe it's because I've always loved animals. Maybe it's the high quality of the video that impressed me, I'm not sure, but it looks cool!

From what I read on Steam, it seems that this is now in the game (I don't have it installed, so I wasn't sure until I did some more reading). That same... Read All

No Man’s Sky: Beyond is rolling out now, and this is the biggest update yet. It seems as though every system in the game has been improved upon, on top of the new additions it adds.

I won’t go into all of them here, because there are so many. But here are the highlights.

  • Expanded multiplayer, allowing up to 8 players per session on console, and 32 players on PC.

  • VR support, for various PC VR systems and PSVR. And you can use standard controls or motion controls.

  • Heavy optimization, including switching to Vulkan rendering on PC. This one is huge for older PCs and AMD cards, and Vulkan has many other benefits for optimization across the board.

  • New story elements... Read All

Wow, Hello Games doesn't know how to stop pushing out massive updates.

Watch the video above for info about the next major update, just a month after the last one.

In brief, Visions brings...

  • New secret treasures to find including exotic trophies and ancient skeletons

  • Salvageable tech

  • New and varied hazardous plants

  • Sentient minerals(!?)

  • New community missions

  • More variance to crashed freighters

  • And tons of bug fixes.

It's only been about a month since Abyss, the underwater-focused update, and already we have a new major update. With the... Read All

The new update for No Man's Sky has a launch trailer. The Abyss adds many underwater things including better visuals, more creatures, sunken treasure, the ability to build underwater, and the ability to use your jetpack underwater. I'm mostly glad that they made it so we can use our jetpack underwater. I've always felt that swimming in NMS wasn't so great. So, this update seems pretty cool, check out the embedded trailer for many more details.

If you were wondering how No Man's Sky faired on the XBox One Digital Foundry has an incredible(as always) analysis. The video even goes over the new stuff to No Man's Sky as well as a bit of a retrospective on the game at launch. Looks like XBox One X users are in for a special 4K treat even if the framerate isn't always as consistent. Still the game looks amazing at those frames and someone you might want to look into if you an ultra fan of the game.

I'm home sick with food poisoning but I set an alarm for 10:55 EST because I knew this trailer was coming out at 11. It was worth waking up for.

We've known for a little while that NEXT was coming, and that it was going to be the biggest update yet, and include more fleshed out multiplayer (the Atlas Rises update gave us a very rudimentary version with "glitches in the simulation" that were other players). This trailer is our first real peek inside.

The NEXT update is free, no paid DLC here, and it launches along with the Xbox One version coming the same day, July 24th.

UPDATE! I initially listed the changes I could see in the trailer, but Sean has posted some info on... Read All

Travis gives this a solid "Rad" on the Ghost Scale
This is fun, with very few issues, and is well worth your time.

(This review does not contain spoilers past what the release announcement discusses. If you want to go in totally blind about new features, please consider skipping this one.)

After the third major update, Atlas Rises, No Man's Sky is what it was meant to be.

A common criticism of the game was that it's as wide as the ocean and as deep as a puddle. I never thought it was that dire, but the depth has improved dramatically. A game with "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam has achieved "Very Positive" recent reviews for the first time.

So what makes things different now?

First, there's a new main story, separate from the Atlas Path (which has also been tweaked). The fourth... Read All

Just look at that beautiful video! I got about 20 minutes with it earlier and even in that small window, it feels like a very different game now. It reminds me (fittingly) of Terraria 1.3 with how much the game has changed.

Here's a brief rundown:

  • A new story. the lore of Atlas continues and the path has been reworked some. The NPCs you could have in your home have changed dialogue to fit the new story. Apparently, there's 30 hours worth of story content here. The long-rumored fourth race is here!

  • The galaxy has been redone again. Your home planet may look completely different now. The variety has been significantly increased.

  • They've added economy, wealth, and... Read All
