Lady Pelvic Gives A Fresh Take On Secret of Mana

I've always wondered what would happen if I took a classic game I love and erased all my memory of it and played it fresh. Would I relive the love for the game all over again or would my older personality look at the game in an entirely different way? Secret of Mana Is Being Remade In 3D

Secret of Mana on the Super Nintendo is one of the best RPG's of all time. It was remade on the iPhone in 2012 and I thought that port was terrible in every possible way. So i'm a bit nervous to hear that Square is remaking Secret of Mana in 3D and launching it in 2018. It could be a great game. Super Nintendo Classic Pre-Order Update

Just wanted to post a follow up about my Super Nintendo Classic pre-order. It might not be news to anyone at this point but Walmart sent out the pre-order for the Super Nintendo Classic by mistake and as such cancelled them. Apparently everyone that got one isn't getting one anymore and we are now back in line for a Super Nintendo Classic with everyone else. And it's quite upsetting.

Last night after we tucked away the little one to sleep my partner and I decided to watch a movie. More than half way in a Cheerful Ghost user hardeyez texts me that he just pre-ordered the Super Nintendo Classic on Walmart and I should head over to do the same. Immediately I let my partner know the emergency situation and we paused the film and I frantically created a Walmart account and put in the pre-order in what I consider to be the quickest new account creation process ever. A few minutes later I messaged Travis, WhiteboySlim and Scrypt but by the time Travis went to pre-order the Classic that Walmart page had crashed. I heard stories that people that... Needless to say securing a Super Nintendo Classic really made my evening and that next morning. I really wanted to get the Nintendo Classic and wasn't looking forward to having another year roll by and missing out on Nintendo next retro re-release. According to Walmart the Super Nintendo Classic should arrive on October 6th which is just in time for it to get packed away for Christmas. Even though i'm getting the Super Nintendo Classic October 6th I still want to wrap it up and open it on Christmas. It just seems like playing it on Christmas morning is the best way to experience it.. or at least that's the plan right now.

Some people have noted what the point of getting one is if you own quite a few of these games already? That's a good point but considering I don't actually own most of these games, this is a pretty inexpensive way to get them. I don't own Earthbound and getting the SNES cart for $300 doesn't sound that appealing to me. Plus out of all 21 games on the Super Nintendo Classic technically I only own 5 and it would be 6 if the kid I loaned Secret of Mana too returned it to me. Funny story with that is a couple of years ago I met that kid at a bar and I mentioned to him he still had my Secret of Mana cart. We both laughed and he said that i'd never get it back.

I plan on it, when I open it, to do a pretty interesting break down. That said by the time December rolls around people will have dissected it from the atomic level already. But you know, better late than never I guess

I read today that all the Walmart Pre-Orders are being cancelled due to a system glitch. The Pre-Orders were not supposed to happen. Bummer if this is true

Seiken Densetsu Collection Coming to the Switch In Japan!

The Secret of Mana Collection is coming to the Nintendo Switch and so far it's Japan only. It features the Gameboy and two Super Nintendo entries that round out the classic collection. Stateside we got Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy Adventure only but if this collection comes to the states this will be the first time we get a proper port of Secret of Mana 2 / Seiken Densetsu 3. Because nerds can dream right?

Comparing Secret of Mana iOS to The Super Nintendo Version

Secret of Mana is one of my most beloved games of all time. I come back and play this every few years. This game opened my eyes to how awesome video games could be. The story, music and game play are fantastic. Back in the day when the Super Nintendo ruled the gaming world, Secret of Mana was Square's triple A effort. And it is awesome.

Recently I saw Secret of Mana for sale in on iOS so I mulled it over and picked it up. What's a few more bucks to being able to play on the greatest games ever on my iPhone? That just looks bad and muddled. It seems like many re-releases just use some sort of smoothing on the pixels to attempt to make it look less pixelated, but it just looks muddy and out of focus.

You guys are getting old fashion. I think the iOS version looks better and the characters are easier to see. The trees really look like trees. But I am not a pixel girl and not a video game snob ;)

Yeah. Well I don't know I guess if someone grew up with something they loved, say a song and it was covered by another band and it wasn't great to them it would basically be how I feel about this remake. I imagine some people might like the cover more than the original as with the iPhone game.

Oh and Pixels are beautiful. Its an old art style that isn't really used as much as id like these days IMO.

I love pixel art, and SoM is one of my favorite games, so I much prefer the original art work. My main complaint about the new graphics are that everything looks slightly blurry, like the whole game is slightly out of focus. When I heard SoM was getting ported to iOS my first thought was there is no way the controls for this are going to be any good, and it seems like my instincts were correct this time. Some games benefit from touch screen controls (I have Puzzle quest on PC and iOS, and I prefer the iOS version) but games that were built with a D pad in mind do not translate well to touch.

This is one of my all time favorite games. So many fun memories of playing this multiplayer with my friends and cousins! The music was great, the graphics and animations were cool, the weapon selection was awesome, and best of all up to 3 people could play all at the same time!

This site is making me reminisce about old SNES and NES games a lot, lol.

Agreed. Mana is one of those games I'll come back and Play every few years because it's so engrossing. It's on the iPhone so I'm thinking of picking it up on it.

I saw it was on iPhone, but I kind of hate the touch screen controls on most games. Plus how do you do the multiplayer on an iPhone?

You could use wifi or bluetooth, but from what I know you can't do multiplayer on Mana for iPhone. Your right about the touch screen for games like Mana, it isn't great.

I finally played Secret of Mana months ago in an emulator. I ended up using cheat codes, but then it all glitched near the end, so I didn't finish it. I spent a lot of time on that game, even though I was cheating.
