Read All If you've been keeping up with Tale of the White Wyvern development and the happenings in-game, you know that the fifth wyvern kill is the "last" one, as in the one where you unlock all the game story, and the one where you need some intense grinding to win. And you may also know that a few have already hit that threshold and are working on their sixth time through. Well, if you're wondering what comes next on this journey, look no further: Paragon. Here's how it works:
After your fifth wyvern kill, the five repeat themselves. The 1st and 6th fight are the same, the 2nd and 7th, and so on. But every fifth wyvern kill will get you a paragon coin that you can spend whenever you like. (And not to worry-- if you've beaten the 5th already, you'll retroactively receive one).
Each time you spend one of these paragon coins, you will lose all of your charm and your dead card and be reset back to the starting point of 1 charm and 0 dead card punches. These are things that never reset by default when you start back at level 1, but in order to use these coins, you're cashing them in.
But it's worth it because you get some pretty great perks:
- +1 to your player paragon points.
- A permanent +5% boost to forest exp gain.
- A permanent +5% boost to forest gold find.
- A permanent +5% boost to your bank interest.
- New titles, up to your third redemption:
- First redemption: Prestigious & Prestidigitonium
- Second redemption: Demigod & Demigoddess
- Third redemption: God & Goddess
These are additive, so on your second redemption you'll have +10% experience gain and gold find, for example.
To redeem these new coins, just pay a visit to Wrymdoor's favorite healer, Helga. She'll perform some secret magic and you'll be gaining experience and gold much faster! Just don't be surprised when Crugg acts like he doesn't know you anymore.
As I said above, you can redeem these whenever you like-- if you want to wait until you get into the later levels before losing your charm, you can do that. If you want to hoard your paragon coins you can do that too. The choice is yours.
We should have Paragon Coins in the game for you to redeem by Wednesday. Prepare yourself for speedy leveling!

Cool! I was wondering what would happen after that final kill, since I'm extremely close to accomplishing that now. I think losing all your charm is a bit of a small price to pay, yet it also kind of sucks. I think there shouldn't be any negative outcome for getting that final kill. Although perhaps it's kind of a balancing act so that players don't get too OP. Losing all your charm isn't too bad since we all seem to accumulate so much of it that at a certain point it no longer matters if you end up losing some of it in the forest. So this change kind of puts some polish on the charm stat, I think. When some of us stated how much charm we had, we were around 100-200+. I don't remember how much charm you need for that ultimate NPC interaction, but I'm guessing it's no where near that much. It doesn't take very long to accumulate enough charm to get to that point, but it's very easy to get so much charm that if you lose some in the forest, it's no big deal at all, other than a wasted forest fight.
Anyway, thanks again to you and Jon for making the game and continuing to develop it.
Thank you and everyone for continuing to play it!
And yeah, youāre right about the reasoning a bit.
Once youāve gone through maybe 18 levels total or so, those lower-charm responses from
NPCs just become worthless, and your charm stat effectively doesnāt matter. This gives it meaning again, but definitely pays you for taking away your charm.
And you can always choose not to use this if you want to keep that charm, but youāll lose out in the long run. Itās really a better deal for you than it is Helga. š
We are live! The 5+ crew should have a shiny coin in their inventories now.
Crugg acts like he doesn't know me!
But, I am swimming in gold, so I will just find someone I can pay to be my friend.

Thanks for playing Tale of the White Wyvern and reading this game update, weāve been working on a bunch of quality of life updates to the game as well as getting ready for Portland Retro Game Expo. As such there is a lot to share and weād love to get your input on it all so letās dive in!

Wyvern Balancing: Significantly changed the 5th Wyvern fight balancing and how the fight operates. The fight is much more fair to players that don't dual class. š
PvP Update: You can now attack players one level below you in the fields. Weāve also Increased the cost of staying in the Inn to a graduated scale that is roughly the amount of gold you find from 3 forest fights at your current level. The Inn protections stay the same.
One piece of feedback we were hearing from players is that they wanted more opportunities to engage in PvP. Also, the Inn protections are so good it was discouraging people from attacking. We think that Inn protections as is are something we want to keep but we thought we could make changes to the fields to encourage more PvP. The goal of increasing the cost of gold to stay at the Inn and broadening the levels you can fight in the fields increases the distinction between the Inn VS the fields and gives the choice more weight.
Player List Update: Change (L)ist Players to (P)layers Online in the menu for clarity and consistency. We now have two selections in the Players Online section in Active Players and Full Player List. Active players is the new top most selection showing you people that have played in the last week. Full player list lists all players.
In game Gold Transfers: You can now transfer gold to other players in the bank. The amount of gold you can transfer depends on the player receiving it and the scale is graduated based on their level. You can effectively transfer the gold the receiver would acquire by fighting 5 times at their level in the forest. Right now you can ONLY send and receive one gold transfer per in-game day.
Portland Retro Game Expo: Added the Portland Retro Game Expo in-game event. Players that join the game during that time will be a fun bonus to daily forest fights.
Whatās Next and the Post Endgame
October 18th - 20th Cheerful Ghost will be hanging out at Portland Retro Game Expo at our booth #611. Beyond that we are working on an upcoming in-game event called The Pumpkin Festival which runs October 23rd - November 2nd and will not only provide some daily in-game rewards but also an entirely new Pumpkin Festival square to hang out in and enjoy the festivities. In terms of new features we have finished the concept of another all new area that should add some fun new gameplay that we canāt wait for you to try.
Oh, one more thingā¦ Many players are coming around to kill the Wyvern for the 5th time and not only does that unlock the final chapter in the Tome of Lore but also awards the player the Wyvernslayer title. Weāre not going to talk about all the updates to the endgame here but from a high level we still consider the 5th Wyvern kill to be the proper Wyvern story end. With that we are adding another 5 Wyvern fights to the mix and adding more opportunity for people to unlock even more incredible titles! Wyvern power wise we will scale the 6th-10th fights like the 1st-5th. We donāt feel having each Wyvern fight after the 5th be as hard would be very much fun. There are a few more changes to the post endgame that weāll talk about in a future post that we think will give the game even more replay-ability so stay tuned!
You can dual class?
> You can dual class?
YES! In the Tavern you can speak to the Bartender and one of the things you can do is choose a new class! One recommendation is that if you are a Rogue or Warrior you have got your new skill point so you are not mid skill gain and dual class losing out on it.
I have no idea what you are saying in the recommendation, but I didnāt know you could dual class.
Wait, more changes? What do you mean this wasn't a perfect game from the start? I'm so disappointed! LOL j/k
I really don't know about doing dual class, I haven't tried it. I don't really want to either. I feel like spending all of my gems on my skill is definitely worth it. I probably wouldn't have killed the wyvern last time if I hadn't done so, I had just enough (D)isappear skill points to win that fight. Although I'm sure some kind of balance between classes and skills would also be efficient.
Personally, I want LESS PVP, not more. I'd love to see some kind of bonus for those of us (or at least me) who don't participate in the PVP aspect of the game. Although, I think it's kind of fair that this isn't the case. I just have no interest in PVP.
It's already difficult to afford a room at the Inn in lower levels, but I guess saving your money for that instead of buying a weapon, armor, and a hat would resolve that issue.
Good job with the Wyvern kill updating. I have one more kill to discover the last lore. I was worrying about what I'd do when I finished, like there wouldn't be much point in playing after that. So, you've resolved that. :)

Sounds good. We plan on running more games that don't allow people to play PvP. The main game will and we want to get it right and not be too annoying if you don't want to PvP.
> It's already difficult to afford a room at the Inn in lower levels, but I guess saving your money for that instead of buying a weapon, armor, and a hat would resolve that issue.
Yeah, at level one staying at the Inn is still the same price which was fairly high. After that it wasn't a big deal and at very high levels it was so cheap as to be not really a cost at all. Now the cost is effectively the gold you'd get during three forest fights which is graduated to each level. So not a ton of gold, but graduated more at higher levels.
That said, let me know how it feels as to know how it plays works out in practice can take a few days to feel out.
> Good job with the Wyvern kill updating. I have one more kill to discover the last lore. I was worrying about what I'd do when I finished, like there wouldn't be much point in playing after that. So, you've resolved that. :)
Travis and I have talked a bit about extending the game and we have some fun stuff cooked up I think you'll like. I know I will.
Turn Helga's into a brothel. LOL
Anyway, thanks for the game, guys, and the work you've been putting into it.
Oh man, the 5th Wyvern is HARD. And I like that a lot!
Duel classing has been great for me. This time around, i have 4 Rogue Disappears and 4 Warrior Screams. I'm currently a rogue, so more gems mean more disappears. Even with that, I need to significantly upgrade my gear! I bet I'll be playing the 5th Wyvern most of the rest of the week as I save up gold lol.
I'm really enjoying the changes that are being made, and can't wait to see how you expand it out!
And it's not so much "duel classing," but rather changing your class and not losing what you've learned with the previous class (you do lose 1 skill point though)
Thanks for the info Adam!
Wait, changing classes doesn't just make it like you'd started at level 1 with that class? I never had interest in changing my class mid-run as I'm no quitter, but this new information complicates/excites things. Hrm.
Since i'm dead and can't tell everyone in the Inn, i'll drop the note here.
I just pushed a patch so hats effect the interest level in the bank. For instance wearing the Golden Yellow Hat would set your Bank interest rate to 7%.
I don't see interest rate raises on any hats. Am I missing something?
The hat has to have an effect that would impact it. So all the hats that increase gold gain will impact the bank interest level.
Oh, ok, so not all hats. Even still, the ones that gain gold don't tell you this new fact. That might be helpful to know in-game at the shop. Although I only use hats that increase my strength and defense.
They now say "+5% gold gain" instead of "gold find" I know it's not a full explanation and i'll think about how to work that into the instructions. Good suggestion, thanks GregoPeck!

One thing we heard from people is... Read All Travis and I have been working hard on a bunch of new updates to Cheerful Ghost and Tale of the White Wyvern, and we wanted to talk about one that released today! Cheerful Ghost is an independent game community and this year we struck out and launched our first home baked text game Tale of the White Wyvern. Two important goals we had were to launch the game and find people that love playing it, and also build a sustainable ecosystem around it for the current and future games we create. Which is why we are launching a new way for you to support Cheerful Ghost today in incredibly easy memberships.
Incredibly Easy Memberships For Everyone

Yearly Membership Options
- Cheerful Ghost Membership: $24 per year with Paypal. A membership gets you a shiny badge on your profile and any posts/comments you make, alongside a Membership trophy. If you were already supporting us at the original $5 Membership level, you can keep that option and become a Super Member.
Super Members!
For the incredible people that support us at the higher level we created the SUPER MEMBER status and will be recognizing these Members in each of our games in the credits! This is so super I had to talk about it one more time.

In-game days last for 12 hours, starting at midnight again at noon (12:00PST/3:00EST). At the dawn of every day, your skill points refill along with your health and number of forest fights. Dead players also get resurrected during this time.
The forest is pretty much where characters will spend probably most of their time. It includes a nice variety of random encounters. Usually, characters will run into a monster or enemy, which they can attack or flee. This is the primary, but not the only, way to earn experience points and gold, which are awarded upon a successful kill. Gold can also be spent to heal in Helgaās Potions and Healing Shoppe. You can also have a few various chance encounters. You may randomly find gems along the way. You can use two to raise your attack, defense, or hit points by one point or save six of them for a skill point in Tarbrethās Adventurer Training. You are given a limited amount of forest and PVP fights per in-game day. There are a couple of ways to temporarily increase your forest fights. You can accomplish this by interacting with the facilities in the new outhouse. You can also interact with an NPC named Crugg.
There are number of NPCs a player can interact with, many of these grant certain bonuses. Crugg can be found in the hidden tavern and will grant the player some temporary extra forest fights. This tavern is one of the previously mentioned chance encounters you may find in the forest. Scarlet, in the inn, will grant the player some experience points. Jon Boyd the bard will grant the player some gold. You will need some charm to get the maximum bonus from these NPCs. Charm can be granted or lost in the forest by a chance encounter with an old man or woman. You can only get an NPC bonus once per in-game day. However, you can ask John Boyd to sing, which will grant you some temporary forest fights. You can do this and still get the bonus from interacting with an NPC.
Pretty much, the goal is to gain enough experience to advance to the stage where you can no longer train with your master and are then told that you may be able to take on the wyvern. Once youāre able to do this, youāll find the entrance to his lair in the forest, it wonāt appear as a random encounter, nor does it take away from your daily forest fights. Instead, youāll find a new option in the forest to enter the wyvernās den. The wyvern is one tough beast and gets tougher the more youāve defeated. It attacks hard and has a lot of hit points, so youāll want to be fully prepared before you attempt to take it on, if you donāt want to die. A good strategy for fighting the wyvern is to save all of your daily class skill points for that battle and use them then. You will also need a good weapon and armor. Defeating the wyvern will reset you to the beginning and allow you to chose a new class. This does not reset your charm, but resets all other stats and wipes your amount of gold in the bank to zero.
There is a PVP aspect to the game, although I donāt use it. If a person does not rent a room in the inn, they will be in the fields when they exit the game; out in the open and vulnerable. If a person does have a room in the inn, you can still attack them, but you will have to pay some gold in order to call them down. Players who die (not just in PVP) lose some experience points and all the gold they have on hand. So, itās best to deposit all of your gold into the bank before leaving the game. Luckily, you can acquire interest each day, which will give you a nice little bonus. You can also acquire more interest by wearing certain hats.
Tale of the White Wyvern is a good game to play and it doesnāt take very long to complete your in-game daily activities. It is meant to be played for about 15 minutes per in-game day. There are a variety of things to do and ways to interact with NPCs and other players. One of the best things about it is that it is completely free. There are no loot boxes or anything you can buy with real money to enhance your character. The development process seems to be on going as Jon and Travis are working to add more things to the game. Itās a pretty bug-free game that can be played on anything with a web browser. You can play it on your PC, phone, tablet, and more. Itās a pretty interesting game and is definitely reminiscent of those games many of us enjoyed on a BBS back in the 90ās. I recommend at least giving it a try. As for me, I play it every day, twice per day, usually near the dawn of each in-game day.
Pay attention to the in-game help menu as it will guide you to forum posts here on Cheerful Ghost where you can report bugs, provide feedback, or make suggestions. There is a bit of help written in to the game, but not everything is laid out clear as day. The developers left some things left for the player to discover.
There are also occasional seasonal events. Many relate to real world holidays. These events add in extra things for players to do and usually provide the players with opportunities for extra gold, experience, forest fights, etc. There is also now a āseasonalā game in which a separate instance of the game is running at the same time as the main one. This kind of game is slightly different from the main one and is a bit of more of a competition to see who can rank at the top by the time the instance ends.
2/10 needs more ray tracing!
LOL
I might be slightly biased but I think it's pretty neat.
> I might be slightly biased but I think it's pretty neat.
That's pretty much what I was thinking, that I'm biased, writing a review of a Cheerful Ghost game on Cheerful Ghost. LOL
The Rogue Update
When Tale of the White Wyvern launched I felt like the Mage and Warrior were classes we got right but Rogue always seemed too similar to the Warrior class. Frankly it wasn't obvious to me how to make the Rogue different so at launch the Rogue and Warrior... Read All This Thursday we are going to be releasing the 0.9.7 Tale of the White Wyvern game update and we wanted to talk about it before it hit because it's special. As we've been working on the game we've changed elements that effected gameplay but on Thursday we are going to make a big change to the game that will effect Rogues and we wanted to give everyone some lead time as it might change how you play.
The Rogue Update
When Tale of the White Wyvern launched I felt like the Mage and Warrior were classes we got right but Rogue always seemed too similar to the Warrior class. Frankly it wasn't obvious to me how to make the Rogue different so at launch the Rogue and Warrior ability were basically the same in that both abilities were a 3x attack. Warriors had a random chance to gain strength in Forkwood Forest and Rogues gained defense and this difference set them apart but the similar skill attack kept them way too close.
When the 0.9.7 update drops the Rogue (S)neak Attack will change to (D)isappear. Disappear is fun new mechanic where the Rogue will use its powers of stealth to be entirely invisible and immune to attack for four turns. So if you are in a particularly hard Forest Fight or Wyvern fight you can disappear taking up the first turn and you will stop taking damage for the following three turns. So, practically speaking, you can deal damage without any retribution for three turns.
The reason why we are letting players know of this change in advance is if you are nearing a Wyvern kill, knowing this in advance may sway your choice one way or another. After testing disappear it really changes the feel of the Rogue class and makes it quite different from the Warrior finally fixing something we didn't get quite right at launch.
We are also adding instructions when the patch drops to further clarify each class in terms of how skills are gained and what they do. There is some confusion from people in terms of classes they haven't played and what to pick and this should help clear that up.
Buckner's Haberdashery (The Hat Update)
When Thursday rolls around everyone will be able to visit the all new shop in the Town Square, Buckner's Haberdashery. Bucker is one of the newest citizens of Wyrmdoor hailing from the Dwarf forge in the Tristan Mountains. Not much is known about Buckner but his warm smile and cozy shop are a welcomed addition to the Town Square.
Hats are special items in Tale of the White Wyvern as they can grant strength and defense bonuses but also increased forest gold find and experience gain. If weapons and armor are the bread and butter of a strong adventurer, hats are the mashed potatoes and as such should be considered after you have solidly upgraded your main weapon and armor set. It's also worth considering that not all hats are a good deal and some might only be useful very late in the game or not at all depending on how you want to play.
To add some mystery to PvP we intentionally designed the game such that you can't see someones weapons or armor unless we randomly leak it out in the Daily News or you Spy on someone in the Tavern. Hats are different in that you will be able to see what someone is wearing on their profile page.
As with weapons and armor Bucker will have a Member only showroom where Cheerful Ghost members can buy alternate hats that have the same power but offer an alternate fun cosmetic set to wear. We've synced up the normal hat and member only hat set to fit in nicely with the corresponding weapons and armor such that if you want to match up each set of gear at every step, you can. For instance if you have Wool Tunic the Wool Hat thematically matches making for a fun ability to pair up equivalent items.
Since hats are an extra thing and not strictly required to kill the Wyvern we will list out the cost of each hat at the Haberdashery AND ALSO note the strength, defense, gold and experience benefits of each.
Bucker's hats:
- Wool Cap
- Feather Hat
- Leather Headpiece
- Iron Helmet
- Golden Yellow Hat
- Grey Fedora
- Bronze Helmet
- Dodson's Headgear
- Black Fedora
- Golden Monocle
- Silver Helmet
- Astral Rock Helm
- Crown of Fangs
- The Crimson Stetson
- Death's Helmet
Buckner's member only showroom selection:
- Green Feathered Cap
- Shiny Metal Helmet
- Green Plumber's Cap
- Silver Crown
- Blast Helmet
- Blue Feathered Hat
- Rabbit Mask
- Sorting Hat
- Newman's Headpiece
- Samus's Helmet
- Red Plumber's Cap
- Tiger Mask
- Blue Bandana
- Kokiri's Green Hat
- X-Wing Helmet
This is cool, but it seems like (D)isappear is going to make the rogue OP. The skill seems perfect for a wyvern fight. I'm sure if I had this before when I fought the wyvern both times, I wouldn't have died at all. I've tried all the classes so far and am currently a mage for the first time. I noticed the mage has more than one magic skill. This new rogue skill will probably get me to try out the new rogue once I beat the wyvern again and get to change class again.
The hats are a cool addition. I may have suggested splitting armor up into different pieces, giving us more use for our gold. I know the last time I killed the wyvern, I had plenty of gold in the bank, which unfortunately went unused and thus lost.
Thanks for the update!
> The skill seems perfect for a wyvern fight. I'm sure if I had this before when I fought the wyvern both times, I wouldn't have died at all.
Think about it this way-- warrior primal scream can give you a 3x attack, OR the Disappear ability gives you (functionally) a 5x attack, but the Rogue attack strength will generally be lower.
Mage still has White, which can nearly one-hit the wyvern if you've planned well.
> Think about it this way-- warrior primal scream can give you a 3x attack, OR the Disappear ability gives you (functionally) a 5x attack, but the Rogue attack strength will generally be lower.
It's actually a 4x attack because the first one just sets up the skill and burns the turn. Frankly I love this kind of game tedium
Yep, that was a typo :D
> I know the last time I killed the wyvern, I had plenty of gold in the bank, which unfortunately went unused and thus lost.
We have plans for that gold in other things we plan to add to the game but won't be coming right away. Longer term we will add some fun stuff to grind a lot of gold for.

Since you put it that way, it doesn't sound as OP. I also haven't discovered White yet. Thanks for the clarifications!
>We have plans for that gold in other things we plan to add to the game but won't be coming right away. Longer term we will add some fun stuff to grind a lot of gold for.
Cool. I was disappointed to lose my bank account balance, but I also understood how OP you could be if you had money saved to buy better equipment sooner.
Haha, oh man, I want to start the game with 50 million gold now. š
I found Mage's skill pretty much useless up until the Wyvern. The number of times you can use a spell vs the number of fights you have seems a little unbalanced.
> The number of times you can use a spell vs the number of fights you have seems a little unbalanced.
I don't quite understand what you mean, sorry.
The Mage's still is my favorite. I shoot magic missiles for my first fights, so I generally don't take damage, then don't have to heal myself and keep the extra gold!
I'm looking forward to the Rogue update to see how it works out. And can't wait for HATS
>> The number of times you can use a spell vs the number of fights you have seems a little unbalanced.
>I don't quite understand what you mean, sorry.
Meaning I am forced to use my weapon the majority of the fights. It doesn't feel very balanced to use your spells. A mage should use their spells first and foremost while a weapon should be secondary. I feel like magic is secondary. Maybe I have the wrong expectations here based on other RPGs.
> A mage should use their spells first and foremost while a weapon should be secondary.
I totally agree with you here.
> I feel like magic is secondary. Maybe I have the wrong expectations here based on other RPGs.
Expectations are fine, I appreciate you mentioning it.
Two things come to mind when I think about Tale of the White Wyvern and classes and it's simplicity and game balance. No one class should feel markedly overpowered but they all should feel powerful. Frankly I think Mage is the most powerful class in the game right now, and we might fix that but I loathe nerfs.
For such a simple game, you can take many paths in Tale of the White Wyvern on how you play the game. Much of this is how you'd play an RPG like Diablo in that you pick your class and then as you level you can't pick a different path, it's fairly permanent. We allow dual classing too and depending on when you dual class you could have dramatically less skill points that someone else by the time you fight the Wyvern. When you balance a fight like the Wyvern you want it to feel hard but also accessable so a reasonable player that made good choices would kill it. We're not the kind of game where I want to dramatically penalize someone for making the wrong choices. I'd rather create a game where people can make choices and see how it lands and you might have a less fun time with some of your choices but it's not too far to the Wyvern to reset and start over and make better choices.
So to keep the game balanced at the core if you take Mage, Rogue and Warrior skills off the table we have everyone level up and gain the same amount of stats and have all weapons, armor and hats(to come on Thursday) be the same. This makes the game a bit vanilla but means that what choices we do allow you effect how easy or hard it is to kill monsters in the forest, PvP or the Wyvern.
Since I don't want one class to be the best class at killing the Wyvern I limit skills so it's easier to balance the game. Kind of like in Diablo III where all your Magic power is derived from your weapon.
Also. It might be worth considering that we change the class name to something that's more like a fighter with magical abilities. That would being it more in line with what the class is, which is kind of a hybrid.
I want to build what you are talking about Will, i'm just wondering if we do how that might effect the simplicity of the game? It would be fun to work on for sure.
> Frankly I think Mage is the most powerful class in the game right now, and we might fix that but I loathe nerfs.
I must have played Mage horribly then, as so far I found it to be the weakest. :P
> Also. It might be worth considering that we change the class name to something that's more like a fighter with magical abilities. That would being it more in line with what the class is, which is kind of a hybrid.
I like this. Going into it, I expected to find a traditional Mage and was disappointed when I found a class similar to the Warrior with some magic sprinkled in. The class felt more like how I would play a Paladin than a Mage.
> I must have played Mage horribly then, as so far I found it to be the weakest. :P
White is a 10x attack. Mage has the worst random skill gain (+3 hp) but with white, wowee, get ready for the hurt Wyvern!
> I like this. Going into it, I expected to find a traditional Mage and was disappointed when I found a class similar to the Warrior with some magic sprinkled in. The class felt more like how I would play a Paladin than a Mage.
Cool. Travis and I will think more about this and see what we can cook up.
> White is a 10x attack. Mage has the worst random skill gain (+3 hp) but with white, wowee, get ready for the hurt Wyvern!
I did use White to knock Wyvern out.
What's the matter, you didn't want to name the hat store after your most heroic of players, Rather Dashing? Rather Dashing's Haberdashery has a nice ring to it, does it not? ;-)
It really does. š¤£
Just pushed the update out a bit early (enjoy)!
One other change we made was balance the Mage's White attack from a 10x -> 7x.
It was entirely too overpowered and now it feels good but not insane.
Damn, why'd you have to "balance" the Mage before I kill the wyvern w/ it. ;( I'll try the Rogue after I beat the wyvern w/ my Mage.
If itās any consolation Iām a Mage about to take on the Wyvern. This is one of the reasons why I loathe nerfs. There is never a good time.
If it makes you feel better, White is still massively powerful!
I love the hats and the new Rogue ability. Thanks guys!
I love Will Ball for loving the hats and the new Rogue ability.
The hats give me something more to spend my gold on, yet also distract me from trying to save up for that 4 million gold armor and weapon LOL. I did like how different hats have different stats or stat boosts and I got one I liked and haven't died in the forest since. I also enjoy the names you've given to armor, weapons, and hats. You guys have some funny names! There's a Newman's set of armor and a weapon I always buy.
Oh and although lots of FPS doesn't seem to make a difference for me, I'm wondering how much FPS I'll lose in playing at a higher resolution. I probably still won't notice, except for a counter to just see. I imagine the higher resolution for gaming will probably or possibly be noticeable.
Did GregoPeck get the CGA graphics patch? :P
Hahaha prob commented in the wrong post.
Wait for the webGL patch, where we render that text using your graphics card!
Wait, do you guys have color monitors?
I downloaded the secret high resolution text pack. LOL Kidding...yeah I commented on the wrong post.
You can play Wyvern in 4K and if your monitor is 120hz it will take advantage of that as well.

I just confirmed, you cannot one-shot the wyvern with White. I'm not sure how many times I hit it with White, maybe twice. Luckily, I was able to Teleport instead of letting it kill me.
You may have been able to one shot the wyvern the first time through. Youāre at 3 kills right? It gets harder each time. But Iām not sure you can one shot it on the first time through with reasonable weapons by that level
Ok, I bought the 10 million gold hat and it made all the difference. I just killed the wyvern (yes, for my third time).
We have two Tale mugs to choose from-- one black text on a white mug, and the other with the full purple/teal/fuchsia color scheme you know and love from the game. We call this the "Janky AF Version" because, the way the Zazzle printing works... it looks a little janky. But we love it and hope you do too.
As for Tale shirts, you can choose the classic black shirt with white text, a black shirt with white/teal/fuchsia text, or the super special purple shirt with white/teal/fuchsia text!
We gave you some options... Read All You want some swag? Who doesn't want swag? We've just launched the Cheerful Ghost Zazzle shop, where you can get shirts and mugs for Tale of the White Wyvern.

We gave you some options here because these shirts are a bit pricey and we wanted to provide some options. The only shirt Zazzle had available with the right color to match our Tale Purple (we're trying to get Crayola to make that an official color) was the American Apparel shirt, which makes the price jump significantly.
We know these on-demand clothing shops are all a little pricey, so we are taking the lowest possible percentage. We'll make around $1.50 per shirt, so if 8 or 10 of our active users want to buy around.... oh, twenty thousand of these shirts, we can quit our jobs and do this full time!
Seriously though, this is a no-risk way to gauge interest in official swag, so let us know what you think about the items we have up, and what else you might want to see. Zazzle has an intimidating number of products available, so if you want Cheerful Ghost napkins or Tale of the White Wyvern coasters, let us know.
You can find our shop by hitting the shopping cart icon in our nav above, following the link from the membership page, or following this link.

What Travis failed to mention is that he means buy 20k shirts and things per month! That would be super.
Seriously, happy we finally have this so I can rep the game I made. I know it's a bit self aggrandizing but I never thought it be able to buy a shirt for a game I made. Maybe you might like it too? It's possible, that said, I'll always have one and I'm really happy about that.
ALSO Zazzle has, seemingly, endless 15% off and other codes so if you want to save now, you can. I imagine they will have more and if they do we'll let you know if the stuff dips to a price you'd rather pull the trigger on.
Thank you for naming a version after me!
Those are rad shirts. I appreciate the simple DOS design! And the purple looks pretty great :)
Ordered a shirt. You better put that $1.50 to good use!
Done and done!
There's the announcement I was waiting for! I noticed the new icon and hit Jon up w/ a message.
Jon, has your kid made my shirt yet?
I don't know but apparently he made mine because it just shipped!

Recent Updates
Every month we wrap up all the large updates in a State of the Wyvern post here on Cheerful Ghost, but if you want to know whatās changing a bit sooner, check the Wyvern Changelog. Each time we update the game we update the changelog so you can stay on top of the latest updates that might effect how you play.
https://thewhitewyvern.com/game/1/changelog
Beyond a slew of bug fixes weāve also changed and added the following things:
- Primrose Park & Hero Shrine: Primrose Park is a new location in Other Places. It currently only has the Hero's Shrine that will honor the first 5 players to defeat the Wyvern in this game.
- Forest Fights: We have removed the "troll" monsters or lower level monsters in high level fights that wouldn't give you very much gold or experience. All monsters at high levels are now appropriately scaled.
- Forest Fight XP & Gold Drops: Experience and gold drops for level 10, 11 and 12 monsters in the forest have been increased by 30%.
-
Random Forest Events:- If you are fully healed the healing event no longer shows up.
- A new random encounter in the forest has been added, so you can now find 1 or 2 gems, whereas before there was only an event for finding a single gem.
- The random gold find event now gives you gold based on your level.
- You can now be pick-pocketed by a thief in the forest. Make sure to deposit that gold!
-
NPC Interactions: Originally if you interacted with the NPCs Scarlet, Crugg and Jon Boyd they all awarded you the same amount of experience depending on the amount of charm you had. Now NPCs grant you benefits differently:
- Interacting with Scarlet grants you experience.
- Interacting with Jon Boyd grants you gold.
- Interacting with Crugg grants you forest fights.
As always you can only interact with one NPC per day, but now you now can make a strategic choice based on what you want to gain for the day.
Jon Boyd still remains different in that you can have him sing a song every day on top of all this. As you gain more charm, the experience, gold and forest fight benefits from the NPC interactions grow. - The Outhouse: The Outhouse is a new location in Other places. We donāt want to spoil the fun, so we arenāt telling you anything else about it, go check it out!
Whatās Coming Next?

Just a reminder, if I hadn't accidentally fought the Wyvern nude, I'd have the first kill, not Tim lol
(No, I'm never gonna let that go ;) )
Just a thought about how to let people know about updates. I like the thought of putting a link in the new day screen. But a couple thoughts about that:
It has to be obviously different text. I never read the new day screen, but I glance at it to see my bank interest lol. If there's a message you want me to see, it has to jump out at me.
Also, leave the announcement up for a few days, in case someone doesn't log into the game as much as some of us do lol
1) There's a typo in my name here, it's missing the second g. No big deal, really.
2) "If you are fully healed the healing event no longer shows up." Thank you! I pretty much always heal when I lose HP, so this encounter pretty much never did me any good, just wasted one of my forest fights.
3) Thanks for the NPC stuff, too. I like how each gives you a different bonus.
Maybe Primrose Park could have adventurers play different playground games with the town children as an additional npc interaction.
GregoPeck, I too am glad the healing event changed as I was just about always healed when I hit it.
Level 7 is kicking my ass.
> Maybe Primrose Park could have adventurers play different playground games with the town children as an additional npc interaction.
I like that idea a lot, i'm going to think about how we might be able to do that.
> Level 7 is kicking my ass.
Yeah that level is supposed to be a steep challenge. I just hit 10 and got wrecked in the forest
Thanks for the feedback Adam, I'm not sure I have the best solution in mind but the simplest thing we can do is put a link there at the bottom and people can click it if they want.
We can do it if there is new stuff but, and it's not hard but an elegant approach on how to do that hasn't come to me yet.
As I said in the episode, I think some people want to know of new stuff and some people don't care so I'm not sure doing much more than making the link easier to find is a big deal if people want to just click through to play the game.
Awesome Jon! I would love to learn people's strategies for the game. I am finally trying dual class, and have been pouring gems into skill points instead of defense. I am slowly creeping towards the 5th Wyvern.
That fifth Wyvern is rough, Will. But yeah pounding out skill points and grinding for gear will get you there. I think everyone spent a week or more at level 12 working on it.
Cool! I'm looking forward to new stuff!
I have my own strategy now and I don't intend to change it. Dual class seems pointless to me. I could explain why, but then I'd have to give some details about my thoughts on this and include my strategy. It's not that I don't want to share my strategy, more like I don't want to at this present moment. I now have a preferred class and I now only spend gems for that class's skill points, because I need as many as I can get. It's cool to know, though, that we all have our own strategies, even more fascinating is how our strategies differ and how they've evolved over time.
> It's cool to know, though, that we all have our own strategies, even more fascinating is how our strategies differ and how they've evolved over time.
This is what thrills me most about this whole process. Truly. People (self included) have developed strategies that we had no idea they would.
