All of The Things! Hoarders: Video Game Edition.

This comic gets at a little problem I have in games now.... Must loot every corpse... Must collect every item. I haven't played many hours of Skyrim but mu chest in Breezehome is already quite full. In Borderlands 2 even though I have full ammo I still open each case, locker and ammo container... Then again Eridium can be anywhere.

How much do you hoard in you games? Or do you breeze by corpses and chests with ease?

I'm a huge hoarder in games. One of my complaints about games like Oblivion or Fallout is that I have a limit on how much stuff I can carry. I CAN'T loot every corpse and it kind of bothers me lol.

In Borderlands 2 I always open everything, but that's mainly to look for Eridium rather than ammo.

The new Pirate DLC seems to introduce another tradable unit too. Wonder how that will work.

How profitable is slots? I've heard you should start playing slots early because it's just going to get more expensive, but I don't want to end up screwing myself out of all my cash.

Slots are not profitable. It is exactly the same as real life gambling your likely to lose 99% of our money. However in return you will end up with lots of eridium. Possibly some guns but that just depends on luck.

Typically I find it to be a good win. Last game with my friends we scored a ton of Eridium and I find that after a 6k slot pull ill walk away with a few blue guns that are better than what I can find in the vending machines.

Perhaps I am lucky or something, I don't know... But I find it to be one of the best uses of in game money. I don't find the vending machines to have that great of gear compared to drops so in the first game I just hoarded it all.

It for sure is a good use of the money because there is nothing else to use it on. But it is not a winning venture. Even if you get a blue gun a lot of the times its a handgun which is usually still worth less then what you paid to spin the slots.

I do get many handguns but I still find it fun. I just wish they had 4 machines, in co-op only two people can get on them at any one time.

Oh yeah, I have serious hoarding issues in every game with an inventory I've played. It really bugs me when I have to leave stuff on the ground due to weight/space issues.

I was thinking something today I wanted to hear your thoughts on.

Skyrim or Fallout 3? I have been making my way a bit at a time through Skyrim and whereas its a great game, I think I liked Fallout 3 a bit better. At least, so far I do.

Skyrim has had some amazing moments, but I guess I prefer the end of the world games where you are born in a vault.

That said, what did you like better Skyrim or Fallout?

Hmm, that's a hard one for me. The elder scrolls games and the fallout series are probably my favorite games besides mass effect. If I had to choose I'd probably say fallout 3 because I liked the story much better. Skyrim`s story was alright but didn't captivate me as much as fallout did.

VATS is awesome, and I hope it makes its way into other RPG's. That said, I connected a lot more with the characters and stories in Skyrim.

There used to be some rpg's back in the day that let you target body parts individually. It was a lot of fun. VATS was cool to see it in slow motion though.

Fallout all the way. I know we've talked about Skyrim in person (face to face). I never went on a wild killing spree in Fallout because I was bored. I did in Skyrim.

I've never "gotten" an Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind. I tried to like Oblivion and Skyrim, but just didn't care at all. I'll try Skyrim again sometime since I bought it. It may be because I played Fallout and Fallout 2 as a younger man, but the setting seems infinitely more interesting than the normal fantasy stuff that's been around the block and back a hundred times. Maybe it's just easier for me to relate to a character that's living in the same world as me interacting with people as they would act after a disaster rather than with people who live like Nordic lumberjacks?

I have heard awesome stuff about Morrowind and I owned it A LONG time ago but it never played on my PC well so I gave it to a friend. That said, people speak highly of it and with it being so cheap and the mod communities continuing attention to it it is something I am going to get eventually.

Skyrim is good, but I don't know, something about it lends me to play it less than I did Fallout 3 so far. At some point I imagine ill play more of it, but with Borderlands 2, Doom 3 and now Minecraft(sort of late on this one) I have tons of stuff.

That said, I had some awesome moments with Skyrim and enjoy the world quite a bit, even though it might be a Nordic Lumber Dream! :D

Fun is learning the ROH in your FUS from the Greybeards. Awesome is learning how to run really fast as a Dragon Shout and then using it right away. Rad is entering a sweet catacomb and having some statues rise out of the water.

The above screen grab is right out of a sweet moment where I entered the "final chamber" of a dungeon trying to find something for the Greybeards. As I entered the room statues rose up from the water and I was really having fun with it. Bethesda is good at crafting those moments and I sure felt that at times with Fallout 3.

I want to travel the endless expanse by myself, survive off the land and catch butterflies all by lonesome. That's the way I want to play my Dragonborn, she is a loner than can take on the world. Thing is, the game is really hard that way and I won't drop down the difficulty. So I capitulated and now I roll with Lydia. Lydia is a very apt knight person, she follows me around and joins the battle and keeps quiet. From time to time she clears her throat but I think deep down she knows I prefer keeping to myself in Skyrim.

And I do. Sometimes ill just walk a direction because I can. A few times a cougar or bear sort of just runs out of the brush and scares the shit out of me. A few times it ended in my death, but not while Lydia is on the case. I send those bears straight to Yogi in heaven. (ask me more about that if it makes little sense. I readily admit it doesn't even make much sense to me).

Recently I read an article from Time online about some new awesome Skyrim mods. Read it here, its pretty cool.

The Skyrim community keeps bringing the awesome, but a few noteworthy points:

A Bear Musician Mod? Thank you Zeus!

A Space Travel Mod? I hope it comes with Chewbacca as the pilot!

A Frost Flame Spell? Jeez guys, what next an "up down" jump?

Skyrim footprints? I do have a lot of RAM free I guess!

Left hand rings? Cool.

Bat vampire travel? Only if I can make it so I sound like Count Chocula when I turn!

Skyrim School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Holy %#$$ing $@#$ that is incredible. Hogwarts in Skyrim? Big Harry Potter fan so that sounds incredible.

Seriously though, that stuff really does look cool and Skyrim on PC keeps on being one of the best games you can buy due to the community alone. Hope it has an even longer life to it in the coming years!

From Whiterun to the destination it looked pretty close but as I made the journey I realized how far things in Skyrim can be. As I continue my adventures as the Dragonborn, the things I can do in Skyrim become more and more epic. Somehow I missed that Bethesda released a free DLC update to Skyrim that adds high res textures to the game. I knew community members had high res packs but finding out about Bethesda's drew me to the immediate download and install.

After starting the game after the DLC was installed I noticed right away, the game looks even more incredible. It shows the game was "mastered" with consoles in mind and the high res. textures really make the game feel more organic. The swords and game environments seem less pixelated and edgy. Plus with lighting turned up, the game has a softer glow to it in certain conditions that are really quite beautiful. That said, all this beauty comes with a cost. Things are a bit slower on my rig. Its well within the realm of acceptable but it is still present. I imagine when I get a new video card it will be less pronounced.

I finally saved up the 5k gold for my house in Whiterun. There is nothing in the house save cobwebs and boxes so I am stashing items inside it by simply dropping them on the ground. That seems to work between saves so ill do that until I can find a way to put a chest inside. Does anyone know you can get a chest in your house to stash items in?

I was also presented with the opportunity(not saying how for a possible spoiler) to become a Werewolf. I don't mind the idea, but it seems you lose a few "human" benefits and I am not sure being a Werewolf is worth it. It seem you gain the ability to become a Werewolf but on the flipside in Werewolf form you can't collect items or anything. Plus in human form you lose your sleep bonus. Also it seems if you change into a Werewolf around a human they immediately want to kill your human form too. Has anyone done this and would you say this is a good idea?

You can talk to the steward or something, can't remember his title, to upgrade your house. I think there's a chest upstairs by default though.

As for werewolfing yourself, I never cared for the benefits. It's a fun novelty at first but I never used it after a few times.

I never found being a werewolf beneficial, other than ocassionally when I needed to run somewhere quickly (and didn't have a horse), or just maul a town. But I also didn't find the negatives to be a handicap.

It was an interesting storyline.

There's one sidequest where you can get an item that helps control when you can turn. I won't give any more info in case you want to avoid spoilers but you can search for it on the wikis if you are so inclined.

You can control it but you only get one per day. The item changes that.

Actually I think that coul be interesting. If they gave you more benefits to being a werewolf but one big drawback, like turning automatically on a full moon.

Decided to treat myself to playing more Skyrim this evening. As I was walking around I noticed a Dragon flying around and breathing fire on something so I decided to investigate. I snuck up on the Dragon and started attacking it and then I was dead. Apparently something one hit killed me and as my death animation was happening I noticed the club of a Giant. Apparently the Dragon was fighting a Giant. I had saved right before I came up on the Dragon so I held back and watched the fight. Yes. You can stash gear in your houses. Once you buy a house, you can also purchase upgrades for various rooms, which sometimes include weapon/armor racks for display purposes. Those are great when you have gear that looks cool/ridiculous that's no longer worth wearing.

The first house you get will almost definitely be Whiterun, and you only get one chest by default (if I recall correctly). You'll definitely want to purchase upgrades for it so you can segment things out into different containers.

With house upgrades you can smith and do alchemy (alchemize?) along with stashing your stuff. It's also handy for stashing a spouse.

Skyrim Exploits & The Flying Mammoth

As I was playing Skyrim for a bit last night I found some Giants. After dying twice by a giant clubbing to the head(apparently they don't like it if you shoot them with arrows) I decided to just explore the countryside. As I was exploring, a Mammoth dropped from the sky and died. It was an odd sight to behold. I wonder if skydiving was the Mammoth's dream and it forgot to wear a parachute? Maybe it was being ejected from an Alien spaceship? Perhaps it was catapulted by Giants?

Either case it was awesome and random. Oh and I found a cart on a road with cabbages spilled everywhere.
