In the video above Robert Bridenbecker head of the classic games division of Blizzard has recently talked about an upcoming Warcraft III patch 1.27 coming March 15th. If it's anything like the recent Diablo 2 patch it should update the game for modern operating systems and fix some bugs and popular cheat programs.

"It’s been a long time coming, but today we’re releasing 1.14a for Diablo II.

This update focuses on system glitches introduced by modern operating systems. In related news, you can finally retire those old Mac PowerPCs. Included with the update is a shiny new installer for OSX.

We’ve also begun working to improve our cheat-detection and hack-prevention capabilities. There’s still work to be done, but we’re making improvements every day.
"

Really great to see Blizzard patch these older games and this seems to be the fruit of Blizzard hiring to patch up these older titles Travis mentioned November of 2015. Warcraft III is one of my most favorite Blizzard titles so an update will be welcomed and i'd love to see it optimized for modern Widescreen monitors!

Whispers of the Old Gods is an all new upcoming expansion for Hearthstone that will launch late April / early May and feature over 300 new cards. Blizzard has dropped some info on a couple new cards featured in our discussion video and linked below. On launch everyone will be getting 3 free Old Gods packs and on opening your first pack you will get the Old God C'Thun and 2 cards that play well with it, for free. So if you've stepped away for whatever reason, you should head back at launch for some awesome freebies.

In this special episode of Hearthstone Dailies for Ghosts I welcome my friend and Cheerful Ghost aficionado Dan to talk about the recent Whispers of the Old Gods Expansion announcement. We talk about the trailer, new cards and overall feel of the current meta.

Before The Old Gods expansion drops Blizzard will be giving us 9 more deck slots as well as deck recipes next Monday. So even though the march to The Old Gods will be a bit long, we will get a few cool features before then.

I want to thank Dan for joining me last minute to record this special episode, it was really fun to be able to bring together after todays announcement.

What do you think of The Old Gods expansion? What kinds of cards do you want to see included with it?

Read up on all the details of the expansion below:

In this pre Hearthstone expansion announcement episode we grind daily quests with Dragon Priest. I go 2 for 3 and gain more gold for packs for the upcoming expansion. This is a really fun set of games as the people I go head to head with play with some fairly unique decks.

I plan on doing a special episode talking more about the next expansion and the new cards it will be adding, so check that out when it drops in the next couple days.

After recently completing Link's Awakening i've been watching some Speedruns and found this great run from 2004's AGDQ charity run. Guiocob expertly runs this and uses all manner of wall clips, text skips and shenanigans to get the run down to one hour and seventeen minutes. There are two speedruns in the above video and the first one runs a couple of rules such as no save and quit making it so you can't glitch out the game to get a much faster and also they don't allow out of bounds. The second run allows save and quit and out of bounds and drops the run to 6 minutes.

Link's Awakening is a retro classic and watching these people break the Wind Fish is fun.

Day of the Tentacle originally wrapped it's way around gaming in 1993 and is being remastered by Double Fine for launch on March 22nd. You might think that since this is an older game that you can get away with running it on your old 486 computer but that is not so! Not only can you pre-order Day of the Tentacle right now on GOG but Double Fine has also released the system specs to disappoint everyone that has their old DOS PC's from high school.

Kind of surprised it requires so much memory but you know, modern tentacles really do need to address a lot of RAM.

Minimum:

Windows: XP (Service Pack 3) / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: 1.7 GHz Dual Core
Memory: 2 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, ATI Radeon 4870 HD, Intel HD 3000, or equivalent card with at least 512 MB VRAM
DirectX Version: 9.0
Disk Space: 2.5 GB
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
Additional Notes: Must have OpenGL 3 with GLSL version 1.3

Recommended:

Windows: 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.2 GHz, AMD Athlon 64 2.2 GHz
Memory: 3 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460, AMD Radeon HD 6850
DirectX Version: 11
Disk Space: 2.5 GB

Kripparrian recently posted a really great video going over the history of Hearthstone card nerfs. I really enjoy this as I played the game in an early state but don't remember much of the game balance so it's nice to get the history of how it's evolved. Interesting to consider the last card nerf was Warsong Commander and not much has been balanced since then. It seems Blizzard favors releasing new cards as a response than nerfing older cards, which I don't mind. I do think some cards should be buffed, but again Blizzard seems against that sort of thing in favor of releasing a new card that work with something less powerful.

There have been a plethora of rumors and leaks about Nintendo's upcoming NX console. At one point the large rumor was that the NX would run Android and as awesome as that may be, Nintendo shot it down pretty quick. As the rumors keep coming and the days march closer to the rumored NX reveal I have been thinking about what i'd like to see in an upcoming Nintendo console.

The Most Compelling Catalog Of Games

Nintendo has been rolling strong in gaming since the early 70's when it got into it's Game and Watch series and as such has a huge library of games. Many of us know this first hand because we keep re-buying the same games over and over again on new hardware. It's as if Nintendo has us trained to buy Earthbound over and over because dammit... I will play it on my 3DS! I think Nintendo is sitting on a treasure trove of games and the ability to launch something that few game companies could do and I think Nintendo should offer a Netflix like services for it's back catalog.

Think of it, for $10 a month you could download and play Earthbound, Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time on any of your Nintendo systems that support the game. Since we live in a digital world all the games can be delivered over Wifi and you can download and play what you like. New games that come out won't be readily available but if you want to play Nintendo's amazing back catalog and experience games you missed, download and go. One aspect of this that makes it so neat is that many of these old games are small so you could download them straight to your system, no need for any kind of streaming game service.

To me, this service would be the most compelling of all in that it allows you to download the game to your system and avoids the hassle of always needing to be online that other such streaming game services require. It also allows these older games to be played by a generation that might have missed them and gives Nintendo a stab at a huge new source of sweet monthly revenue.

Seems like a solid win for everyone to me.

The NX Should Be A Handheld System That Can Fling To Your TV

I'll be totally honest with you, I don't think the Wii U and 3DS should be different systems. They seem to really be so, at heart, entirely similar they shouldn't be different things. Does anyone with a 3DS only NOT want to play the new Zelda game coming out? Does anyone with a Wii U only NOT want to play Pokemon X and Y? Some new titles are for both systems but, in my not so humble opinion, there are not enough.

Nintendo has a clear strength in mobile and I believe it should continue to play to this and allow the ability to fling to the TV for playing games with your family, friends or simply a larger screen experience. Even if the NX it's a TV only experience, at it's core it should no longer be different from Nintendo's mobile offering. Valve and Apple shouldn't be the only companies to realize that in in 2016 customers expectations are to buy a game and play it in many different places.

Ultimately I am hanging on the NX announcement to be something that pushes Nintendo into a more modern world that gives us something a bit different. I am open to seeing what Nintendo has but even seeing just one of my ideas come out would be something very compelling.

What do you want to see from the upcoming NX? What would get you to pull the trigger on a new Nintendo system?

We've all been waiting for the new Hearthstone expansion and Blizzard has finally confirmed that on March 11th they will unveil all of the details. So yeah, it's a announcement of the upcoming announcement of the expansion because you know... marketing in 2016!

That said all of the signs point to this expansion having something to do with World of Warcraft The Old Gods and word on the street is it will be called "Whispers of the Old Gods." The expansion announcement will stream live from the Blizzard Twitch page linked below.

What are you wanting from this expansion? As they phase out Naxxramas and Goblins VS Gnomes the new expansion has big shoes to fill and Ben Brode has stated that this expansion will be large. So far I have over 3k gold saved so my Hearthstone gold wallet is ready!

December of last year I posted about a new project, the Coleco Chameleon. It's a retro project that aimed to build a new old styled console that would be hackable by modern developers making new retro titles. Recently there have been a lot of doubt thrown on the project as it has been shown that prototypes used faked hardware.

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/247145-coleco-chameleon-hardware-speculations/page-43
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/03/coleco_chameleons_future_in_doubt_following_claims_that_snes_hardware_was_used_in_prototype

Whereas there can be a fair amount undone in an early prototype this seems to take the notion a bit too far as many in the retro community have noted. Sad to see this kind of thing happen to a project like this as the community getting a modern retro styled console that anyone can make games for is an absolutely amazing idea in concept.

Our original article is below and I have updated it to reflect this new update. Some people in the retro community have noted that all video game websites that reported about the Coleco Chameleon should apologize for deceiving the community. The charge is that we should have spent time sending people out to events and working to verify that this project was on the level. This is an interesting charge and one I want to address. Cheerful Ghost is a very niche video game site and because of that our resources are extremely limited. Whereas larger sites like Kotaku, IGN and PC Gamer can employ many people on staff we do this all gratis and each year I run Cheerful Ghost at a loss. We report on the stories we find interesting and talk about the awesome moments we have about the games we love.

Nintendo is releasing The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD on Wii U tomorrow and have also put out a 3 part retrospective series interviewing the developers. Part one is embedded above and discusses the initial E3 fan reaction as well as amount of work it was to launch the game. Twilight Princess originally launched on GameCube and Wii and did many things not seen in a Zelda title before such as mounted attacks and some impressive graphical improvements among other things. Twilight Princess also brought the series back to a more realistic look which some feel was missed in Wind Waker.

If you are interested in checking out the retrospective start with the video above and then head to parts two and three below.
