Nintendo is launching Mario Kart tour on mobile September 25th and pre-order is available. Mario Kart Tour launches on iOS and Android and from some early impressions seems to be a fairly simple take on the Mario Kart formula. Not sure this will replace Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch but if it's fun, i'll play it. These Nintendo mobile free titles haven't been great but if you don't have a modern Nintendo system and don't mind simple fun, they aren't too bad.
I’m tentatively looking forward to this but... Dr Mario left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope this doesn’t fall so incredibly deep into the free-to-play trappings.

Nintendo was at the Gamescom expo this year demoing the Link's Awakening remake and released a new video showing off some all new gameplay footage. The biggest news bit from the video is that not only will you unlock more rooms for the Mario Maker styled Zelda Dungeon maker included BUT as you create and complete dungeons you can unlock more rooms to use to create levels. Match this up with the ability to share your creations with friends and to me this looks like it could be a really cool feature of the game.
Link's will make his Awakening very real on September 20th on Nintendo Switch!
Please let me know in the comments if you plan on playing this on launch and if you have played the original Gameboy version?

Getting at launch and I have played and own the original gameboy version. I can’t remember if I have beat it though. It would have been a long time ago, if I have.
I haven't shared a Cygnus Destroyer video in quite some time and with the release of his latest Innocent Until Proven Guilty video covering Castlevania: The Adventure now seemed like a great time. Castlevania: The Adventure is in the new Castlevania Collection and as many pick that up they might wonder how the Gameboy game holds up? Weeeeell I don't want to spoil the surprise but let's say the intense lag the game suffers from doesn't help. I'd think Gameboy games should be given a bit of a reprieve given how rudimentary the hardware was technically the Gameboy is capable of 59.73 hz or damn near 60 fps.
"Castlevania: The Adventure is widely considered to be one of the worst entries in the legendary Konami franchise, but in this video game court, it's INNOCENT Until Proven Guilty!"
At this years Disney D23 Expo Star Wars fans were treated to a special D23 panel on Rise of Skywalker along with a new trailer that just dropped. The trailer features a look back at all the Skywalker saga Star Wars films and some all new Rise of Skywalker footage. I urge you to watch it now because in the paragraph i'll be talking trailer spoilers.
Looks like Rey is featured heavily in this trailer and she looks to be a lightsaber wielding badass. Also. The Emperor has some new voice work and what sounds like a taste of Darth Vaders iconic breathing sound. The end of the trailer has had fans guessing what it means as Rey snaps a double-bladed red lightsaber out and looks very ... pro dark side. It's possible this is a vision caused by the Emperor of her dark side ability like we saw in Empire with Luke and the force cave. Or... it's something else entirely.
Rey will get into her dark side attire in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker which comes out on December 20th.
There’s simultaneously a lot to unpack and not much at the same time.
Is that the first time we’ve ever seen saber throw and return in live action?
That city they’re looking out over looks amazing and I can’t wait to see more of it.
So the red dual saber is absolutely incredible looking. But to finish the series with dark Rey doesn’t make a lot of sense, and they don’t have a lot of time to turn her and turn her back. So I’m betting this is some dark side force trick or a vision (like you mention) or her long lost twin, or clone, or something. That saber seems way too badass to just be used in a vision though.

Yeah! I saw something about "Dark Rey," but didn't see the video until this post. Of course this video just makes us (or at least me) ask more questions, like WTF is up w/ Rey and the dual red light saber, that's a rare weapon in Star Wars and I've never seen one open up like hers did. Red is also primarily the color that the Sith use, because they use fabricated crystals and they make them "bleed." So, does Rey turn to the Dark Side? Does Darth Sidious inhabit Rey in order to come back? And then there's still unanswered questions, like who are Rey's parents? Is she a clone? I saw some where that someone (I think the actress who plays Rey) said that the answer to who her parents are is obvious, but I still feel clueless about that. It was said they were nobodies, but were they really? We do see Rey and Kylo Ren dueling and she has a non-red light saber. So WTF is going on? I guess we'll just have to wait until December to find out.
I really like the idea of Rey with a lightsaber staff (a lightstaff?), since she used a staff back when she was a scavenger. But, I really don't see her going to the dark side completely. She might start turning (under force ghost Darth Sidius's influence), but eventually she'll be swayed back to either the light side, or some sort of grey-middle ground. Likely Kylo Ren will see the error in his ways and be the force that brings her back from the dark side.
No matter what, this is an opening day movie for me!

Adam brings up a good point about the grey-middle ground. I've watched a lot of Star Wars videos on YouTube and supposedly we might see more of that grey area. There are grey Jedi, I believe.
I don't think Rey would go completely to the Dark Side on her own, although Sidius might make her go that way. It's possible she's a clone he created to help give him eternal life. I think I saw at least one theory on that and how Sidius will or could return.
I also forgot about C3PO! Why are his eyes red? Did he join the Dark Side? I did see a video about how he may have been Darth Vader's spy the whole time, even though he probably didn't know it. Also, how come he had a red arm and now he doesn't? I wonder what the story is with that.
Interesting stuff!

Also you can find out about C3PO’s red arm in a comic about him, and he got his gold arm back by the end of The Force Awakens. Presumably he was just waiting for a replacement protocol droid arm.

Wrong body color but I’ve seen some theories that it’s triple zero’s “brain” inside C3PO. Which, if we get Triple Zero dialogue delivered by Anthony Daniels, the rest movie could literally be all the characters kicking rocks and it would be a net positive.

Most likely a pissed off C3P0. THIS TIME HE'S GONE ROGUE-ONE... or ANGRY!

Wow I didn't know who Triple Zero was, thanks for the link Jon! I'd have to watch the video again, but the eyes make me think that that is Triple Zero. Yeah, he had a different body color than C3PO, he was dark silver, but it says, "Aphra, BT-1 and 0-0-0 moved to Vrogas Vas, where Vader and Skywalker had both crashed their ships after a dogfight. While Vader faced an army of Rebels alone, Aphra attempted to capture Skywalker. In order to do this, she painted 0-0-0 with a golden luster to make him look like Luke's protocol droid, C-3PO." So, could it be Triple Zero or did C-3PO get new eyes?

The ending will be Rey as Sith and C3PO as Triple Zero.

Here's a good break down from a channel I recently found (and watched break downs of other movies): https://youtu.be/Iv-5_cy0ctg
Still, "The Rise of Skywalker," who is that Skywalker? Or are they using it as a general term? I saw some where that Skywalker was a common name in the Star Wars universe like Smith is in ours.
Triple Zero was painted at one point but didn’t remain so. It could be anything but one thing people (me) who want all these expanded characters to show up don’t take into account is the time to explain things. I desperately want Ahsoka to show in a movie for instance, but how do you introduce a character like that to the live action movies without breaking the narrative flow for a bit of a long explanation of who she is? Trip kinda falls into that a bit too. Still more possible than a huge character like Ahsoka but this is a character that is important to comic fans and nobody else, and explaining his relation to the whole narrative would take some time.
I still want it though. 😂

I'd like to see her, too. I saw her in The Clone Wars.
Yeah, she’s literally my favorite Star Wars character. More than Luke, Han, Rey, Anakin. It feels weird saying that as a 37 year old but her character development went to some crazy places and we were along for the ride and man... I felt that. When she showed up in Rebels I was elated. I can’t wait to see where Filoni takes her next.

I had questions about her. I knew she left the Jedi Order and I wondered if she every met Darth Vader. I decided to look for her on the wiki Jon shared and I got my answers. The wiki page is very long, so I don't know that I'll read all of it right now. But, wow! I remember (from The Clone Wars) now why she left the Jedi Order, though I forgot about it. She died once, but was brought back to life by someone else's sacrifice. She met Darth Vader and it seems she died then, too, but someone went back in time and rescued her.
I actually have a Disney Infinity figure of her really close to me. Vinny got her and some others for that game, but hasn't played it in a while. I do like her, although I don't think I can really rank my favorites among Star Wars characters.
I must admit again that all this talk of Star Wars has seriously peaked my interest in it. I feel like I've become a bigger fan of Star Wars in the last few weeks than I ever have been. I never really considered myself a big fan. I liked it, but wasn't really very passionate about it, but recently that passion has exploded. I actually didn't see the original trilogy until I was in high school. And, again, oddly enough I actually like the prequelogy and Jar Jar.
Forgive me for going slightly off specific topic here. :)

The trailer for the new Star Wars live action show The Mandelorian dropped and it looks better than I imagined. The Mandelorian picks up after the events of Return of the Jedi and if the impaled helmets of Imperial Storm Troopers are an indication, it doesn't look like where the show takes place in is big a fan of the Empire. Disney has been pretty mum about what the show is about and the Mandelorian himself but it seems that he might have a connection to Jango and Boba Fett as the official description mentions them by name.
Tie this up with the news that Ewan McGregor is coming back to play Obi-Wan in another show for Disney+. It seems much of the plans Lucasfilm had for films they are now focusing on Disney+ shows and I think I prefer that. If these shows pickup the "Darth Maul trilogy" arc that we've talked about in Cheerful Ghost Radio and are good Lucasfilm can make as many as they want.
"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. “The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

Quite interesting as I have recently watched a lot about Star Wars lore on YouTube. I thought this was supposed to be a Boba Fett show, I wonder why they chose another Mandelorian (assuming it isn't him). I think I saw something that he didn't actually die in the desert in the original trilogy.
You speak of Darth Maul and I kind of don't want to give away spoilers, but he's not dead either, or at least he didn't die in the prequelogy (I think I just made up a new word). You see this in The Clone Wars animated show, which was pretty good, I think. I think that show also gives you some good ideas about the Mandelorians and the clone troopers (they're based on Jango).
What media outlet will this show be one? Netflix? Amazon? Hulu? Either way, I don't really watch any kind of TV anymore, so I'll probably miss out on it (even though there are other things I've missed out on that I think I'd like to see).
Still, again, I've been seriously geeking out on some Star Wars stuff lately! I think it's making me a bigger fan of the series. I didn't dislike the prequelogy as many others seem to have. I also don't hate Jar Jar. From what I can see, I like what Disney is doing, if nothing else just creating more Star Wars media to watch, which I think is great!

Oh! Disney +! I read something about that. Anyway here's some news articles I just found.
One thing I'm wondering about is why Disney is being secretive about who The Mandalorian is. If the first episode comes out, and The Mandalorian takes off his helmet, or says he/she's part of the Fett family right away, then it'll seem like Disney was being secretive for no reason other than hype.
But, I'd The Mandalorian's identity is kept secret during the show, the secrecy will feel more earned.
This isn't really a show I'm super interested in, but my wife will be subscribing to Disney+ the day it's available (and I can't wait for all the Marvel content), so I'll eventually watch this show as well.
Yeah I'm way in on this. The canon on Boba Fett is way weird, Jango may or may not have ever been a Mandalorian at all, and just stole the armor, and Boba's armor seems to have been coughed up by the sarlaac and is being sold in one of the Aftermath books. BUT there's still room to spin it all as Boba somehow getting out and tracking down another set of Mandalorian armor but I hope they don't. Just leave that be. I want some Star Wars with new characters.
As for Maul: The Mandalorian takes place after Rebels, after RotJ even, so this can't have Maul in it. Maybe his syndicate is still around and can be there (and I'd love that). And the way the new Lucasfilm works, EVERYTHING is canon, and there are no levels of canon, just a group of people tasked to make sure canon doesn't clash at all, so Maul wouldn't show up and face off against Obi-Wan in his series because he didn't know where Obi-Wan was until a day or so before Obi-Wan killed him, which happened pretty dang near the start of Episode IV, a while after the Obi-Wan series. He may be on the planet but away from Obi-Wan somehow. I suppose Obi-Wan could know Maul was there but not the other way around. BUT again, I'm hoping for Qi'Ra and the syndicate, even if we definitely won't get that face off between Maul and Obi-Wan.

Right, good point thanks Travis. Maul with the Obi-Wan show?
Though if it runs for a few years they may expand that I guess, and they could do a live action version of the Duel from Rebels to have the two series overlap, but it would only take up a single episode.

Wow, this looks incredible. I've heard the reason why Disney isn't sending out press screeners is because there is a pretty big spoiler in the first episode.

I've been eagerly anticipating the launch of Anodyne 2 as I adored the original game. Anodyne 2 is out now and is getting very solid reviews. Anodyne 2 mixes up the early Playstation / N64 era graphics with the 2D sprite feel of the original Anodyne for a very original take on the genre. That said, with development going strong on Tale of the White Wyvern when am I going to have time to play this? Realistically not for quite some time, but if anyone does play this let me know what you think. You know... vicarious living... it's a thing when you're busy.
"Nano Dust infects the islanders of New Theland, distorting their emotions and desires. You play as Nova, a Nano Cleaner who must explore the island, seeking out the sick and shrinking inside their bodies to suction up the Dust.
Anodyne 2: Return to Dust combines the thrilling scale and cinematic storytelling of 3D games with the tight design and easy-to-pick-up satisfaction of 2D Zelda-like adventures. With art that re-imagines the PS1 and N64 era, explore 3D cities, valleys, and wastelands then shrink into the varied 2D mindscapes of characters, from snowy, aurora-lit valleys to perilous volcanic construction sites!"
Shovel Knight is a Cheerful Ghost fan favorite indie game that keeps getting better with each update. The final King of Cards update is coming and before that ... the Shovel Knight board game? Looks like Yacht Club is partnering with Panda Cult Games to release an all new Shovel Knight board game that is heavily inspired by the video game. There are two Kickstarter funding options at $40 for the game with cardboard stand-ups and the $70 version with the full 3D plastic figure prints. What's included in box is pretty impressive at both price points and there is a cool stretch goal at 80k to have the bosses be playable characters. The game is on the way to get funded and I like how simple the backing levels and stretch goals are.
If you want more Shovel Knight and want the most analog way available to play, this is it.
"It is time to sharpen thy shovel once again! Shovel Knight makes his auspicious return to Kickstarter in Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels! Based on the hugely successful crowdfunded video game and made in close cooperation with Yacht Club Games, Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels is a competitive side-scrolling dungeon crawler for 1-4 players. Players compete as different colored Shovel Knights to shovel out justice in spades against the evil Order of No Quarter all while trying to grab the most treasure to prove that they are the one true Shovel Knight!"
LGR is one of the many YouTubers I subscribe to that makes a fun mix of old hardware review videos and video game reviews. It's become one of the coolest channels I watch and I don't share a lot of it because it's not all video game related. That said, I think i'm going to start sharing more of them as Cheerful Ghost is a pretty retro friendly community and I think we all love looking back on crazy old hardware like Zip-drives and Tandy computers.
In one of LGR's more recent reviews he takes a peek back at Empire Earth, a classic RTS game that feels at home with Age of Empires and Rise of Nations.
"Review and retrospective on the RTS game Empire Earth from 2001! Half a million years of human history (and possible future) is covered in this PC gaming classic from Rick Goodman, designer of Age of Empires."
A few days ago I wrote about iD Software releasing the original Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 on mobile, Switch, XBox 360 and Playstation 4 during this years Quakecon. Some of the games launched with a few issues that Bethesda has fixed(like requiring you to create a Bethesda.net account) but how do these ports run on modern systems and stack up to the originals? Digital Foundry are some of the best reviewers around and run all the new ports through the paces in this video that's a must watch if you are considering playing these classic games again.

Nintendo is adding two new classic NES titles to it's Nintendo Online service this month called Kung-Fu Heroes & Vice: Project Doom. These are really unique games to add to the service as they are not top tier NES games but help fill in the Nintendo Online collection to be more than just a library of greatest hits. I'm excited to get these added to the service because as someone that hasn't played either, this seems like a great way to jump in.
I’m tentatively looking forward to this but... Dr Mario left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope this doesn’t fall so incredibly deep into the free-to-play trappings.
> I hope this doesn’t fall so incredibly deep into the free-to-play trappings.
Ron Howard: It did.
Haha, yeah. I want another Mario Run style game but they’ll never do that again.
“Style” as in the payment model, not the genre.
Yep. I agree. I don't think they made as much money on Mario Run as they wanted to.
