The place for conversation that doesn't make sense to talk about in any specific game in our list. Think of General Discussion as a "catch all" for conversations about gaming, game culture or anything else worth sharing.

Looks like call of juarez is going back to it's roots. Can't wait for this game. Western atmosphere done right.

"Valve's Gabe Newell was honoured with the Academy Fellowship at the British Academy Games Awards in 2013 for his outstanding and exceptional creative contribution to the Games industry."

Yeah, that makes sense. Under Gabe's wing Valve has done amazing things with its games and Steam. The video above, starts with a nice mashup of some of Valves more amazing titles and then goes right into his acceptance speech, which is quite awesome. It follows up with a fun interview where he talks a bit about Valve and its growth.

They asked about Half-Life 3. Watch the video for the answer.

This seems to be separate from Anita Sarkeesian's videos, she's not even mentioned in the article, but another take on sexism in the industry has been posted at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/life/lifestyle/video-game-sexism-under-attack-678689/

This one looks at the people in the industry themselves, the reasons women are excluded (or self-exclude) from the gaming industry, and takes a look at the redesign of Lara Croft and what that means for women.

Some of the experiences mentioned in the article are just unthinkable. We should be better than this.

As an aside, this whole thing started, further proving Anita's point: ... Read All

Studio Pixel is dropping the curtain on its newest game called Gero Blaster. Featuring a Frog adventuring on other planets this game looks to bring more retro fun to your phone.

The Hammerwatch team recently released a playable demo on Steam and I seriously recommend you all try it out. It contains a good portion of the game and access to the survival mode as well.

"As a trope the Damsel in Distress is a plot device in which a female character is placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own and must then be rescued by a male character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the protagonist's quest."

This is part one in a video series by Anita Sarkeesian from her successfully funded Kickstarter about "The Tropes vs Women in Video Games." This first video is very well done and I found myself looking at these old games from a different perspective.

Back this on Kickstarter!
"Another Castle combines classic platforming gameplay with the randomness of a roguelike. You play as Andy, a dude who's looking for a random item, whether it be a kick ass magical sword, a wizard hat, or royalty. To find the item you must run, jump, and fight your way through a randomly generated castle. When you beat the game, you sadly won't get the item, as it's always in another castle. Instead, the item is now unlocked and can be found in future playthroughs of the game."

As I scour the depths of Kickstarter I want to bring you guys the best bits I find and "Another Castle" looks to be one of the better looking games. I like the idea of a Retro roguelike 2D... Read All

I'm only a half hour into the PS4 Announcement, and I'm already hearing a lot of themes that we're already sharing here on Cheerful Ghost. Sony is focusing a lot on connectivity between players, and shared gaming experiences. I'm really interested in seeing the PS4 in person (especially Watch Dogs, not mentioned yet in this announcement, but that freaking looks rad!)

"Super excited to announce the release of CORPOREAL - a 4 song EP featured in the award-winning game, Sound Shapes by Queasy Games for PS3 and PS Vita. The EP consist of music taken from the CORPOREAL level which saw Jim Guthrie teaming up with superbrothers (for the first time since Sword & Sworcery) to create more video game magic (if I do say so myself!)."

I picked it up today and listened to this 4 song EP a few times. Overall its a good addition to your Jim Guthrie fan catalog and will mix in very well with your Video Game music library. If you don't have a video game music library, I recommend you also nab the Sword & Sworcery & Indie Game: The Movie... Read All

The BBS talks to Gabe about the Steam Box and he dropped details that Steam Box prototypes will hit people in 3 to 4 months. When asked what the reason its taking a bit is:

"The main thing that's holding us up... we have a couple of different controllers prototypes we're using."

And...

"We'll be giving out some prototypes to customers to gauge their reactions, I guess, in the next three to four months."

"There are noise issues and heat issues and being able to [deal with] that while still offering a powerful enough gaming experience is the challenge in building it."
