Never Stop Buying: Get This Stardew Valley Collectors Edition!

Stardew Valley is a modern classic that many consider to be one of the best games of all time. It debuted to critical acclaim but never received a physical release until now. You can pre-order Stardew Valley collectors or standard edition on Switch or PC. The each version is priced a bit differently and the Switch SKU seems to be a couple bucks more than the PC version. That said, the Switch Collectors edition is $69 and for what you get that's quite a good deal.

I have yet to really dig in to Stardew Valley and now that play most games on my Switch am considering picking up the standard physical edition. Anyone else thinking about that?

Stardew Valley Celebrates It's First Year Anniversary

Back in 2013 I wrote about a game in early development called Stardew Valley. It was a one man project that looked like the PC Harvest Moon game we always wanted and we followed it over the years until its launch in 2016. Stardew Valley Getting a Retail Collectors Edition April 11th!

If I got Stardew Valley on PS4 I'd probably just go digital. More than likely, though, I'll just wait for a future Steam sale.

Yeah. The PC copy would come with a Steam code, but I still like collecting boxes of things for some stuff.

Absolutely. However, Stardew Valley is definitely not something I would do that with. Especially if it's just a map and a guidebook (mini-guidebook at that). The soundtrack would be cool, but that's available without springing for a collector's edition. It also seems you can buy a much better version of the full guidebook at Fangamer (https://www.fangamer.com/products/stardew-valley-guidebook). Oh, and you can also buy the map on Fangamer (https://www.fangamer.com/products/stardew-valley-pelican-town-map). So, you spend a little more, but you get better items when you buy individually. The "collector's edition" just seems to be a gimmick.

What I mean is, THIS SPECIFIC collector's edition seems to be a gimmick. Some (most?) offer some exclusive cool thing, something actually worth seeking out as a collector. This Stardew Valley collector's edition offers things that are already available for purchase elsewhere, or something significantly less impressive, as is the case with the mini-guidebook. Whereas other collector's editions might be arguably worth the money, this one seems like a total ripoff. This would be more appropriately labeled as a "bargain edition" not a collector's edition.

Sure.

I think getting a smallerized version of what you said would be interesting if the lesser price point and ease of having it all in one place was something someone wanted.

Stardew Valley 1.1 Beta Released

There's a new update fresh off the farm! (Sorry not sorry for the pun.)

Earlier today ConcernedApe revealed that update 1.1 has entered beta to help clear out a few bugs before the full release. The change log looks pretty expansive with the big ticket items would be the new farm layouts themed after one of the in-game skills, two new marriage candidates, and a host of new buildings and warp items. Awesome. I missed picking this up at launch due to other games I was playing but I'll be picking this up sometime after the 1.1 patch drops.

I plan to start a new character when 1.1 drops and I will roll with one of the new maps, but I'm not sure which one I want to try. I like fishing a lot and the riverland map looks cool, but there's not really a shortage of places to fish. The forest map looks cool and having those renewable stumps would be nice. The hilltop layout isn't my favorite, but the geodes/ore could be really useful depending on how fast they respawn and what they drop. The wilderness map could be interesting, and it has a lot of area to farm still. I really don't know which one I want to try!

Since I still haven't played it yet, do you have to replant trees then? I was wondering how you could get new trees to chop down.

You can replant trees on your farm or the trees in the areas outside your farm grow back automatically.

Looks like trees drop them or by plowing up bumpy ground under the tree itself. Interesting. Are the seed drops plentiful enough? Kind of annoys me when crafting games don't drop enough tree seeds.

Nerds everywhere rejoiced when Stardew Valley was recently ported to Mac and Linux and everyone is now eagerly awaiting the 1.1 game update. Featuring more marriage options and features this update looks to be loaded with great stuff and PC Gamer interviewed Eric Barone about even more. In the interview Eric lets us know of a new thing where you can select one of 5 new farm maps to facilitate a different farming style. Everyones Favorite Corn Farming Game Stardew Valley Comes To Mac and Linux July 29th!

The developer of StardewValley tweeted some amazingly terrible news today.

"Quick Update: Mac & Linux are set to be launched on the 29th! Multiplayer, localizations, and the version 1.1 update are still in progress."

Well see on one hand that's good because the reason I haven't picked it up yet is because Stardew Valley lacked a Mac port so now that's solved. On the other hand it's terrible as I am sure all my free time will go down a virtual farming hole. A few Twitter fans asked ConcernedApe some questions about what tech they used to port the game.

Upcoming Changes Coming For Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is ConcernedApe's country life farming game mega hit and in a recent blog post he outlined a roadmap of upcoming features. At the top of the list of stuff I am very interested in are Mac and Linux ports. Since Stardew Valley has been a one man effort to date ConcernedApe will be enlisting the help of some Chuckle Fish developers for the ports and multiplayer support. This is actually a really great thing as it means he can focus on core gameplay additions solely.

New features that are on a list of things to come:
