The Super Retro Boy Reloads Three Classic Gameboy Systems In One!

Retro-bit is brining a brand new retro system to market that plays original Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance games. It has a backlit screen and includes a built-in rechargeable battery for convenience. I like the clean design being an homage to the original Gameboy and it also looks like it feels pretty good in the hand too. That said, I don't love that the L and R bumper buttons for the Gameboy Advance are above the A and B buttons. This might make some Gameboy Advance games really hard to play and I think a better design would have been to the put the buttons on the side of the system or on the back.

Donate To The Prevent Cancer Foundation in This Years Awesome Games Done Quick 2017

The Games Done Quick Speedrunning charity is a week long livestream dedicated to raising money for charities and this year it's The Prevent Cancer Foundation. The start of the livestream was pretty unique as they started things off with a speedrun of Ocarina of Time 3D that was complete a couple minutes under two hours. Usually Ocarina of Time is a huge draw but this is the first year they've run the 3DS version, which coincidentally i'm playing right now(expect a partial review soon).

The main fun stuff I got was the new 3DS and a few movies like The Hateful Eight and Star Trek Beyond. The new Metallica album and the Breakfast Club on Bluray. Can't wait to watch Bender smoke it up in HD!

The new 3DS also doesn't come with a charger. I remember something about that a while ago. I guess it works with the old ones and they don't include it. Not expensive but annoying as it's my first DS.

Lucky guys! Gaming wise I got a $30 Gamestop gift card, which I'm thinking of taking to Gamestop and buying $30 in Steam gift cards. LOL Gaming wise, my son got an ocarina from his mom! He also got a Skylanders thing, but it's for XB1/360 (which we don't have), so it's going to get returned for something else.

Oh and as for the N64, I remember that Christmas when I got mine. I got enough money for Christmas that I went to Wal-Mart and bought one. It was sometime around or after high school (which ended in '98 for me). I still have it!

@Travis, I agree. I read about that issue and forgot about it. Since I have already paid for a 3DS and 2 3DS XLs, I already have more than one charger for the 3DS family, so that mattered little to me. I seem to remember reading that they did that to reduce the cost of the system (which is currently about $200), although it seems like a charger would be only a slight cost and not including one just seems like a stupid idea.

I forgot about the charger too! I already had a charger, so I didn't think much of it. I would have rather paid a few more dollars for a bundled in charger than not having one. Think of all the poor kids (and Jon) that get one as a present and then can't use it due to not having a charger. Sometimes I just don't understand Nintendo.

Besides immediately going to Amazon for a charger I also bought Ocarina of Time 3D and Yoshis New Island. I already got a few old DS games like New Super Mario Brothers from Goodwill and that's a really fun game.

I will get the Link Between Worlds and a few others st some point too.

Yeah! I know Nintendo has demos, because I've downloaded some of them from their online store. I haven't played OoT 3D, but I bet it's pretty sweet (as the original and other ports are). I have Link Between Worlds, or at least I bought the golden Triforce 3DS XL that came with it. Well it was really a code I had to enter to get it downloaded from the store.

Jon, did you get the New 3DS XL or just the New 3DS? Apparently that "New" model you got has better hardware. I was told that the Hyrule Warriors game for the 3DS doesn't play well on the original system, but works fine on the "New" model.

Man, "Nintendo hard" is a real thing! These games are fun, but I kinda feel like I'm banging my head against a wall when playing them lol. I am determined to play through Zelda II, but it's really slow going! (Zelda II is a super smooth game though. The controls feel really good)

OMG Zelda 2 is freaking hard. I never was able to figure it out when I played it on the NES. I finally found another way to play it (many years later) with cheats and then looked up what I was supposed to do. I really don't know about that game, it's perhaps one of the most mind boggling games I can think of!

So far my favorite games are Zelda 2 and Final Fantasy. I've played (and loved) FF 2, 3 and 7, but never played the first. It appears it's going to be a long grind (I made my 4 person team to be, 1 black magic, 1 white magic and 2 fighters. I really had no idea what I was doing, but it seems to work) as my team is going to need to level up A LOT before even going through the first dungeon/castle. But I love the sounds! It's kind of a "duh" now, but the FF sounds originated in the original! I was pleasantly surprised to find this out :)

I've tried out most of the other games, and my wife laughs at me when I play for 1 minute, the feels impossible, and I press Resart and go to a different game :)

Please note: I'm not asking so I can say HAHA YOU SUCK I'm interested in hearing which ones, as an adult, feel impossible. Our interpretation of difficulty has changed since the 80s. I think we were more willing to grind something really hard when we had all the time in the world and only like 15 games to choose from.

Don't worry, my wife already says that to me, all the time...
Looking back at the list, the only game that feels *impossible* is Super C. The controls feel bad for Ice Climber and Kid Icarus. I might not bother playing those again. I get Galaga and Gradius mixed up, but both were too difficult to put much effort in. Ghosts'N Goblins and Megan Man 2 felt really hard, but beatable (I got through a couple Mega man levels before getting interested in trying something else). Both Castlevania games seemed fun, but didn't keep my attention. I'll come back to those at some point. Kirby and Tecmo Bowl were way too easy, I stopped playing them quickly after starting but will probably pick them up at some point when I'm bored. Zelda 2 is super hard, but fun enough to keep trying. Final Fantasy is grinds, but I'm giving it time.

So I guess the only *impossible* game is Super C :)

Last week, I received a review pass to Hour To Midnight - Room Escape Games to check out their first puzzle Room, titled The Secrets of Nibiru. I happily accepted it and joined a team of local “influencers” (2 people from hotels and 1 person who works in business networking) who were invited to promote Hour To Midnight. (Cheerful Ghost was contacted to try it out, as we’re a gaming website obviously. Jon couldn’t make it, but he offered the chance to me.) The recommended team size is between 6 and 10, so our team of 4 started out at a disadvantage, but HTM modified the game slightly for our team size (they have different rules for different sized teams).

To begin, one of the HTM employees talked us through the rules and gave us some very general tips, as it was the first time in an Escape Room for any of us. Then we were walked into the room to start, and the door was shut behind us, locking (for legal and fire safety reasons, there’s a panic button to get out if needed). The lights were off and a short narration started, beginning the game. We then had 60 minutes to tear through the study and figure out how to get out. We started out slowly, just looking at everything, but soon started finding clues in random places around the office.

I won’t go into any details about any of the puzzles, but sometimes simply just figuring out what the puzzle was was difficult enough! Everything was logical though and made sense within the room. Puzzles lead to more puzzles throughout. Sometimes, you’ll be working on one puzzle and concurrently someone else will be working on another that will help you along in yours when they’ve finished.

I had an absolute blast! My team didn’t finish within the allotted time, but we got really close, and considering we were a small team of people that didn’t know each other, I was pretty proud of all we got through. Escape Rooms have been something I’ve been very interested in for a couple years now, but just never managed to try one out. Now that I’ve experienced it, I can’t recommend Hour To Midnight enough! Currently there’s only one room finished (this one took around 8 months to put together. The detail they went to is incredible.), but they hope to have a second room finished by the end of the year. And have 2 more rooms in planning/building stages.

Hour To Midnight also has a banquet room, where they can host receptions, office parties, etc. (I’ve already talked with my office manager at work about having an office outing here) When a large group is there, multiple teams can work through the room, and after your team has finished, you can spend your time in the “spoiler room,” where you can watch video feeds of the next teams struggle through the puzzles.

I want to thank Hour To Midnight for inviting Cheerful Ghost to experience their business, and thank Jon for letting me go in his place. I absolutely recommend checking it out for yourself!

I have the vanilla (not Ultimate Edition) one that I got for free via Origin. I'm not quite sure if I want anything else on Steam.

It's an interesting game. I played the start and a bit into the main campaign. It was fun and I somewhat enjoyed it but I was having a hard time with the combat and instead of trying to figure out how to make it work I just walked away from it.

I want a couple games but I imagine they will be a bit less during the holiday sale so I might wait it out for that. Darkest Dungeon being the game I want to get above the rest.

I played it a bit, too. Aside from playing it days ago, I hadn't played it for two years. I thought it was ok I guess. I honestly can't really think of what I want, I guess I really don't want much. I know I should give the Mass Effect series a try (again seeing others rave about it). I have a demo for ME3, but haven't tried it yet. I'm also kind of interested in Far Cry: Primal. The newer Wolfenstein (not the classic from long ago) series is some what tempting, too. You're not the only one here that's said good things about it. Other than that I'm pretty clueless. I haven't given Assassin's Creed much of a try either.

That sounds pretty good. I was going to mention the Origin sale. If I checked that first instead of Steam, I could have saved about $2, but that's ok. The other DA games aren't on Steam, so I might buy them from the Origin store. I'm not sure if I'll do it now or wait a month to see if they have another sale. They are under $20 each (even for DAI's GotY Edition).

I'm interested in what others here are thinking about picking up, or if they think it'll be better to wait a month for the Winter sale.

Agreed. Back in the day I played, and loved, Neverwinter Nights but for whatever reason, I loved that game and the combat system. Neverwinter Nights had the pause mechanic but I never used it or at least don't remember using it as much as Dragon Age seemed to require. I don't mind games you pause to consider things as FTL is one of the best games i've played, but in Dragon Age, I don't know, I didn't love it.

The Winter Sale will have deeper discounts so if you aren't excited about picking something up, the Winter sale should tempt you more.

I'm not really uninterested in picking something up, I already got DA:O Ultimate Edition. Although, I think I was just kind of excited about the sale and price. Wolfenstein pricing looks really damn good, too.

Yeah, that's what makes me think I should have waited before my purchase during this sale, because I did read that the Winter Sale has "deeper discounts" as you mentioned. My purchase this sale was a bit impulsive, but I'm ok with it. It's funny about how I noticed it was going on. Vinny asked me to add $5 to his Steam Wallet, which I do every now and then (he usually asks for $10). Once I went online to do it, I noticed the sale going on and got excited. He was happy, too, because he decided to spend that $5 on Spore.

Do you know if Origin has a near Christmas sale, like Steam, too? I haven't spent a lot of time with that store, I've only received some free games they offered, I haven't bought anything there yet.

If memory serves it does have a pretty nice sale around Christmas. I haven't bought anything from Origin yet either. I'm really happy with the free library though. One time I bought a Humble Origin Bundle which got me some fun games on Steam and Origin.

Sweet. I tried to find my answer w/ Google, but couldn't come up with anything. DA:I was about 60%+ off, so I went ahead and bought it and DA2. I have a demo for Mass Effect 3, but haven't tried it yet. I should give it a try so I can decide whether or not to pick it (possibly the trilogy) up, although it's on Steam, so I could probably wait until the Winter Sale begins.

I decided to go ahead and get Wolfenstein: Old Blood and New Order. Also, since I remembered, I went ahead and got the Borderlands trilogy. I think the last time I looked, the "Take Over Your Life" Borderlands bundle was almost $90. Now it's greatly less. However, it didn't seem to come with the Game of the Year editions, so I purchased those separately. I also bought the season pass for the pre-sequel. All of these games are incredibly cheap right now. It definitely seems like the perfect time to buy. I'd like to note that all of my game purchases this Black Friday season are based upon strong recommendations from friends, obviously including our fellow Cheerful Ghosts. :)

Again, great choice. Are you thinking of starting with the original Borderlands? I'd recommend that, it's a solid game start to finish. I played a bit of the DLC, which was also fairly good.

I'm laughing at myself, because Travis has called me out a few times for "necro posting." Maybe I'll create my own post about it.

Well, that's one of the advantages of being here, game recommendations! I remember years ago looking for game recommendations (which I do every now and then) and you and Travis mentioned Terraria (which I still love). Yeah, I'm intending to start with the original, then the pre-sequel, then B2.

Now I have to wait for all these downloads to finish and some are pretty big. I'm still playing through Skyrim SE and there's still more Ark for me. I'm not sure when I'll start these new-to-me games, probably some time when I finish w/ Skyrim SE. I might start with the Wolfenstein games, since they seem to be short.

I picked up a non gaming thing for Black Friday in the Amazon Echo. It's pretty neat. I wonder if Apple will make one?

I think a friend said I should play the first game, then the pre-sequel, then the second game. I could look it up for more info, but at least it makes sense to me that the stories follow that order.

I honestly only know of the Echo by name, but don't really know much of anything about it. I think it's a search engine that you activate by speaking to it. Feel free to let me know what that is, how it works, and if you like it.
