The place for conversation that doesn't make sense to talk about in any specific game in our list. Think of General Discussion as a "catch all" for conversations about gaming, game culture or anything else worth sharing.

GOG's summer sale started today. http://www.gog.com/ Lots of flash deals, daily deals, and other deals. Thinking about picking up some fun older stuff, or lots of cool new stuff...

Looks like they are getting in just before the Steam sale. :)

What are you thinking about picking up?

It's being reported that the Steam Summer Sale is going to be June 19-30.

There's also some "Mysterious Cards" on steam... but no one's sure what they're for. Speculation is that they're going to be part of the Summer Sale event.

And here's just an interesting site I stumbled across that shows what games are on sale on Steam *right now*!

The confusingly titled fourth installment to the Doom series, which so far has publicly just been called "Doom," will be on display at QuakeCon this year.

The Cyberdemon gets all the attention in this teaser trailer, and it looks pretty badass. And did anyone else get all giddy at the door-opening sound?

Keep an eye out for more info on this game July 17-20. http://www.quakecon.org/

Live streaming from E3 today. Will anyone be watching? I'm interested to see what's announced and shown, but if I miss something, I won't be terribly disappointed.

Maybe I'll post thoughts along the way in the comments. Join in if you're watching :)

"In 1991, local newsstation reports Nintendo released their successor to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in America. But the parents wasn't too happy about it. The parents thought Nintendo was exploiting their children into buying new and expensive hardware for new games when the improvements to the new hardware were obvious."

It's fun to look back at video games to see how far we've come. I watched this news clip from the 90's that made me laugh a bit. I still remember the first time I played Super Mario World and experienced the Super Nintendo for the first time. The music, graphics and controls were very good. We... Read All

A new game popped up on Steam today for just a few minutes, but someone caught a screenshot of the page before it went down. It's called "Steam: The Game."

The description seems to just describe Steam itself, not a new game of any kind. It matches up to an entry on steamdb.info that refers to it as a Tutorial App. For those who don't know, SteamDB crawls through the Steam databases to look for data, and in the past has shown new games before they were announced.

So what is this? Its timing makes it seem like something related to the upcoming Steam Summer Sale.

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. I was ready to... Read All

GOG is joining the ranks of PC Game clients like Steam and Origin with GOG Galaxy, a purely optional client to let you manage your GOG library.

This will automate game downloads, automatically update your games, let you show off your achievements to your friends, etc. But it is in no way mandatory, and if you choose to use it, you don't have to be online for any offline features.

This is exciting news. I always loved GOG for being a DRM-free option for buying games, but hated the loss of the convenience Steam provides. Steam kinda controls the board in the PC gaming marketplace these days, so I hope this provides some extra competition to make the whole scene even... Read All

I started Cheerful Ghost because I wanted to create a place where I could talk about video games with my friends. When the site shipped it needed to do three things: hold my video games to my list, allow me to write about any game in my list and share that conversation on the everyone on the web. As the site marched on we started interviewing people in gaming, the Cheerful Ghost Roundtable started & the event system was built. Over the last year I have been involved in the Portland Indie game scene and in our last Roundtable episode, was able to get Will Lewis, the founder of PIGSquad to join us.

As Cheerful Ghost has evolved as a community we have become much... Read All

Valves news to delay the launch of Steam Machines until 2015 makes sense when you think about it. The Steam Controller has received some pretty mixed reviews so far and seems to have taken quite a bit longer to perfect than Valve originally may have thought.

"We’re now using wireless prototype controllers to conduct live playtests, with everyone from industry professionals to die-hard gamers to casual gamers. It's generating a ton of useful feedback, and it means we'll be able to make the controller a lot better. Of course, it's also keeping us pretty busy making all those improvements. Realistically, we're now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014.

Today, the United States celebrates Memorial Day. It's a holiday that remembers the people that died serving in our armed forces. I just want to say thanks to anyone that serves in government that contributes to making the country I live in so much fun to be a part of. It isn't always perfect, but lots of people that work in government make this country great to be part of and for your time and dedication, I thank you.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone that comes to Cheerful Ghost to read an article, watch a video, add a game to your list, post an awesome bit of news, watches or joins in a Roundtable and joins in the site conversation in the comments. Cheerful... Read All
