Super Mario Bros. Crossover 3.0 trailer

Super Mario Bros. Crossover is getting a new version soon. There was a sequel to Super Mario Bros. released for the Sharp X1 computer in 1986. This new version adds those levels to the game. In addition, it adds more settings and music to the game, to make the levels look like they would have if they were in SMB2, 3, Super Mario World, Zelda, Castlevania, the list goes on.

The original Super Mario Bros. Crossover took the internet by storm a few years back when the creator, Jay Pavlina, posted a Let's Play of him playing the game. Miiverse is Now Available Online

"Miiverse is a service accessible via Nintendo's Wii U game console that lets you communicate with other players from around the world."

Miiverse is the Wii U community for sharing content. Its interesting because it recently became available from any-ol browser. Its really cool to look through the content people have posted and so far seems to be user created fan art.

Escape from Burger Town

Zac Gorman, the one man wrecking-crew behind the awesome Magical Game Time series released a new web comic "Escape from Burger Town." Very cool and worth checking out. I really enjoy Gorman's style, even if I don't always know what he is trying to say with a given strip. Art need not be accessible to be compelling.

Portland OMSI After Dark

Last night I went to OMSI After Dark. The After Dark events up the age restriction to 21 and serve some local beer and wine as well as some local delicatessen selections. They also have an area dedicated to local the local Portland gaming scene.

Last nights event featured a wall of retro games sponsored by Ground Kontrol and the upcoming Portland Retro Gaming Expo. Also showing was Guardian Games as well as the Portland Indie Game Squad. I was able to play a few awesome Indie Games from local PDX'ers such as Clobbr, Major Magnet and PewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPew.

Infographic: Console Prices Adjusted for Inflation

Whew, did anyone buy own a Neo Geo or 3DO? I remember totally thinking it looked like hot shit in the store but I can't think of any game people really raved about on those platforms. What impressed me most about the 3DO was that it could play video in a game, that totally blew my mind. Come to find out just slapping some video in a game didn't really make it awesome but then again how else would we get games like Sewer Shark?

I picked up a PS3 well after its launch and on a pretty awesome sale for $250. It came with Guitar Hero III and a $50 Best Buy gift card a very good deal. Now I am wondering how much the PS4 and Next Box will ship for on launch day?

Yeah, some games don't always translate to be as awesome as they seem at first. I am kind of glad my parents didn't have a ton of money to spend on the latest "hot" consoles as if I had my way I would have bought that junk.

The one I had a hole in my heart for was the Game Gear. Never got my hands on it, but spent a couple years just imagining how awesome it would be to have video games somewhere other than home. Funny to think how these days the more novel experience is being somewhere you *don't* have access to video games.

Not "better", mind you. Just more novel. :)

The Game Gear was cool. A friend of mine had one. The color part was pretty epic but it had a few downsides to the Game Boy.

* It was huge compared to the Game Boy. Makes sense, it had a color screen and all. But it felt really big in my junior high hands.
* Mortal Kombat was really choppy and slow. None of the Game Boy games I played felt like that.
* If memory serves the battery life wasn't as good. Again, more things to power so that makes sense.

I wasn't really thinking about battery life, and never saw Mortal Kombat. The real big comparison I had to make was between the Game Boy's Mario game - cool, but not whoa - and the Game Gear's Sonic the Hedgehog, which at the time was pretty Whoa.

Yeah the Mario Land that shipped with the Game Boy is pretty low rad compared to sonic on the Game Gear.

That said, the Game Boy launched a year earlier than the Game Gear and compared to the Tiger Electronics handhelds, the Game Boy Mario Land was mind blowing. That said, many games came later like Link to the Past and Warioland 6 Golden Coins that really showcased what the Game Boy could do.

But yeah, compared to Mario Land, Sonic was way more impressive.

Rachet and Clank The Movie Announced

Ratchet and Clank the movie is set to hit the big screen in early 2015. This makes sense as the game is quite cinematic already and in the "Pixar quality" realm.

Some news that got buried in all this today is that a Heavenly Sword movie is also being made, going direct to video. I'd been hoping for a live-action movie, but this will have to do. I'll watch it, but I'm not expecting much.

As for R&C, meh, I dunno.

I'd watch a Ratchet & Clank movie. Not in the theater, though. The 'Future' series is all I've played, barely touched the Ps2 games. If they did something along those lines, I'd even consider a theater viewing... if the tickets were free.
