Awesome info-graphic on the History of PC gaming. Goes over the decades and has the box art for pivotal and popular PC games.

Funny as PC gaming started much earlier for me with BBS games and ZZT like DOS games. I also had a Commodore and was playing greats such as California Rasins, Gauntlet and Nosferatu long before Windows but this info-graphic doesn't show the stone age of PC gaming.

A few seconds into this video the person taking it asks for the Zelda song and Boba Fett plays a song out of Link to the Past. Listening to the song being played by Boba Fett made me smile.

Enjoy.

OUYA: A new take on the console paragidm

So you may have already heard about OUYA. It's the new Kickstarter sensation. They put up the fund drive on Kickstarter yesterday, with a goal of $950,000. Within half a day, they had $1.5 million. As of now, they have $2.8 million. This makes it the most successful first day for a Kickstarter campaign yet.

If this goes off without a hitch, it could change the way we think about gaming. A fully open source console, running on Android, infinitely hackable, controlled by the users.

But there are many problems with this idea. Gamasutra has a piece on the... Read All

This game was a lot of fun. You switch between dimensions to change the properties of the objects around you allowing you to make your way to the exit. The puzzles can often be solved in different ways, and for an added challenge there's a "par" for each level based on time and number of dimensional switches made. My biggest complaint is length. It was way too freaking short. DLC will be released for the game, though, and given the release price of $20 it seems reasonable enough. Best part of the game is that John DeLancie (Star Trek's "Q") is the acting GLaDOS.

From a recent Borderlands forum post:

"Borderlands 2 will reward veterans of the first Borderlands with exclusive character customization elements -- here's a look at the character heads and skins that are unlocked when Borderlands 2 detects save data from the original Borderlands!"

Wow. So that ups the extra stuff you can get by a bit. If you pre-order the game not only do you get the premiere club goodies and if your pre-order from Gamestop you get even more. But if you have a save file from a previous game you get a few more extras now.

Waiting for them to announce the bonus for booting Borderlands 2 for the first time. I really like the Sledge bonus head.

OverClocked Remix is paying tribute the Final Fantasy 3 by running a Kick Starter for its latest remix efforts. Its a pretty slick offering as the final product will span 4 discs of material. The line-up of people producing tracks is pretty impressive with: Danny Baranowsky, Jimmy Hinson and more.

If you drop $50 you get a 4 disc deluxe packaging of the remix album delivered right to your door. Oh and did I mention its a limited 1,000 print?

As of the time I posted this they have exceeded their goal and have 751 limited CD's left to nab!

Madcoaster is a fun runner clone I have been enjoying lately. iPhone as of when I write this, sorry Droids! Its published by Chillingo, the company that brought us such greats as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. A bit of an aside, Chillingo has created a ton of mobile games, you should thumb through the list sometime, its very impressive.

As I said earlier, Madcoaster is a runner clone like Robot Unicorn Attack or Jetpack Joyride. Where it differs is in style and tone. You collect coins and can upgrade your coaster, but the coin and item store is not pushy. Madcoaster is less punishing than other runner type games which is why I think its more fun. Collecting coins is one... Read All

A great, simple android version of the classic Risk game. You can play against up to 6 players computer or human. In the free version you're passing the phone back and forth, but it's still fun. My 11 year old daughter, who's never played Risk (I know, I've failed as a parent) loves this game too.

There's a Skynet option, which makes the computer more likely to attack humans. I've not tried it on that mode yet. I don't want my phone learning how I attack...

So my wife and I use to play FFXI from 2004 to around 2009. We've decided we are going to relive the glory days (so to speak) and pick FFXI back up at least until Summer is over and have some fun going through all the low level stuff on a new character. I know at least one other CheerfulGhoster out there had FFXI too, so I wanted to extend an invite to anyone who wants to join us on the Cerberus server. My character name is Taion and my wife is Ktara and we're currently based in the city of Bastok (but we have the means to bring you to us if you want to start somewhere else for any reason.)

If anyone has never played FFXI before but wants to join us, let me know and... Read All
