Blizzard dropped the news today that Heart of the Swarm will enter multiplayer beta "very soon." I enjoy the Zerg quite a bit and am looking forward to the single player game. Wings of Liberty was very well done and I anticipate Heart of the Swarm to be just as good or better! I know, perhaps my expectations are too high for a post Diablo 3 Blizzard? I certainly hope not.

We will begin with a select group, including many players who assisted us in testing Patch 1.5, as well as some pro-gamers and press. Over time, we will add more and more testers into the mix.
If you are interested in participating in the beta test, please make sure you are opted in for beta testing. You can do this by clicking "Beta Profile Settings" under the Account Management section of your Battle.net account. Note that the opt-in doesn't guarantee entry, but gives you a chance at joining the beta test. Also, we'll be working with your favorite fansites and community personalities to give away more entries to the beta test, so keep an eye out for invites coming from the greater StarCraft community over the coming weeks."
Really hoping to get in the beta to try the new units!
OK here's my epic Terraria base. I spent weeks off and on with this thing. If you noticed I wasn't around on the CG server for days at a time, this is why.
I created/destroyed so many new worlds just to get the materials for this, so I could get different colored dungeon blocks mostly.
One thing I didn't show off there at the end, I decided not to bore anyone further, is that I have a long line of bricks in Hell, ending with a lava pit like the one WhiteBoySlim made, and a house above so you can set your spawn point.
I also have houses at the entrance to the dungeon, corruption, and underground jungle.

I used Tedit to copy in a couple of additions you'll recognize, and also to fix a few things that I can fix with a couple of clicks rather than spending hours destroying and rebuilding. I also used a map program called TerraFirma to find some statues for the statue farm, and a few of the ones I used in the NPC housing. I may or may not have used a chest glitch to get enough wire for all my contraptions. :-X
I recorded everything in Bandicam, because FRAPS only lets you do 30 seconds without paying them-- Bandicam allows 10 minutes. But it appears Bandicam's compression leaves a little to be desired, so I recommend watching this in full screen and in 360p if you want to actually see the text.
And now I'm done with Terraria for a while. I definitely want to come back to it between Dec 15 and 31, for the winter content (or I might just change my clock at some point). Santa and packs of snowmen? Sign me up!
That is awesome! I had a lot of fun playing Terraria with everyone, and while I am looking forward to a break I definitely want to do this again. Maybe around that Christmas time so we can get Santa and that snowman army special event. :)
I think Minecraft with the CheerfulGhost community would be fun. I actually host a minecraft server for me and a couple friends. Not many people play on it anymore, but we had a lot of fun messing around on there for awhile.
I am most likely going to pick up Minecraft in the next bit and try it. Let you know how that develops... I might post something about it :)

I had an extra copy somewhere but I can't find it. Won it in a contest somewhere like a year ago. If it turns up I will give it to you but don't wait up ;)
A few changes I thought were interesting no one has mentioned so far:
* The last follower a player had active in a single-player game will now be restored automatically after leaving a multiplayer game * The frequency of follower dialog has been reduced
I started playing my Non-HC characters again in anticipation of the patch: he's much closer to 60, and there's no way I'm farming Inferno in HC any time soon.
Drop rates are definitely better along with monsters generally weaker and players generally stronger. I went back and played for an hour last night and actually accumulated money and better items (e.g. blues actually dropped from ash jars, and gold every now and then, not back to pre-1.0.3 but way better).
The best part... Tomes and potions are no longer white -- they are a light blue so stand out way better (I'm sure I accidentally left a lot on the ground when they were white)
I think your findings are correct. I got way more blues and yellows and they were better. More gold. Monsters were easier and there were more of them I found.
Attacks I didn't normally use WAY more powerful. Oh and it was fun for a bit and then I went back to Skyrim. All told, its a good improvement and I am eager to play it more.

This looks incredible. 100 extra experience bars to fill, giving you awesome bonuses the whole way.
It isn't *just* experience, apparently. It looks like you get some boosts to your core stats along the way as well!
By the time you hit Paragon level 100, you will have reached the maximum Gold/Magic Find available, and GF/MF gear won't matter.
The Paragon system... It's official!
This is such good news. This is going to fix all of my big qualms with the current auction house. Gems not factoring in is a godsend, the ability to cancel an auction at any time, and search on up to 6 stats... this is good.
The Magic Find post should be later today I hope!

I turned off the Terraria server tonight. It was awesome to see what people did with the game. I was honestly surprised people built as much, mined as much and killed as many bosses as we did. The screenshot is of the final state of the game at night and as you can see, the village is fairly dense.
We mined down to the underworld, killed Skeletron, The Eye of Cthulhu, Eater of the World, survived countless Blood Moons, Goblin Invasions put the world in hard more and then defeated the hard more bosses.

I really enjoyed the world and as such plan on having other game events we can play together if people are able. That said, I promised to share the world file after it was over and here it is.
The underground jungle was damn fun. Annoying at times, but tons of fun.
This server is honestly one of my favorite experiences in gaming. You guys are all awesome to play with. Terraria is so deceptively deep, and it was great discovering it all with you guys, building tons of awesome stuff, and taking out bosses.
Any privacy concerns with 4shared? I've never used it but need to create an account if I want to download that file. Just want to make sure they aren't going to steal my identity or burn my house down or anything nefarious.

Ah, didn't know you need an account to download that file. I'll share it with another service. I kind of just picked a random site. Do you have one you use?
It was a blast to jump in on this. I wish I had time to participate more, but the time I had was well spent. Thanx for getting me started and giving me quite the loot boost, everyone.

Wow and oops! I was exploring the first world, it's pretty cool. I fought some Corruption enemies that I hadn't before (I haven't really explored the Corruption in my 2nd world yet). Then, I went to the Underworld to do some exploring and what do you know...I killed a Voodoo Demon and it dropped it's doll in the lava. Even with the Spectre Armor and a total of 51 defense, it was an easy fight for me and my Terra Blade. It's pretty cool exploring the worlds created by you guys. I did throw each world into my Terraria backup folder, so no matter what I do, I can always revert. Thanks for giving me three new worlds to explore! I also am the last person to visit the first world (obviously), about 2 years after you guys. Hahaha.

Tons more useful info in that post. Lots of specifics about class changes, etc. But one thing to keep in mind is that not all of the info may be accurate. They could add data to the game without activating it, and there could be other mechanics at play that change some of the values you see here.
Wow. They are really addIng a lot to the game. More than I thought they would frankly. More levels beyond 60 does increase the end game but I hope it's more than just more grinding.

Yeah, they aren't technically levels, no new skills or anything like that, no stat boosts, but the extra MF/GF will be a compelling reason to want them! I'm looking forward to it.
I was hoping that the Diablo "always on" connection would mean more post release support. In my wildest dreams, Diablo is like Minecraft, receiving updates and major improvements years after its release. As long as they don't call it DLC and slap a $10 price tag on it, I'm happy.
Yeah, it seems that is happening with it. No problems with that here immediately. That said, they could patch it and change it so much that it doesnt resemble what it was. Kind of sad because in that case you cant roll back to play what it was.
Kind of a loss of the 1.0, which whereas 1.0 wasn't awesome it was 1.0 and to lose that if the game goes to something different would be unfortunate in a way.

So there's a new Humble Bundle out. Although it's called the Humble Android Bundle 3, all the games are cross-platform, for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. You can get Steam keys and Ubuntu Software Center activations as well, same as with the last numbered bundle. Some good stuff here, but nothing to top what we've seen in the past.

This works similarly to the Humble Bundle. There's a similar profit distribution, with a different charity, and you can set how much to go to which group, same as the Humble Bundle. They're currently on number 7, and I've heard good things about a few of the games they have included in this bundle.
This one is different. Same basic premise-- you set your own price, and you get a bonus for going over the average-- but it doesn't go to charity as far as I can tell, it's just to the developers. That said, this is made by the people who make Desura, so you know they care about their Indie Devs. Some of these games are not redeemable on Steam, but they are all redeemable on Desura. They have a new bundle up every two weeks.
Speaking of Desura, if you haven't heard of it you should check into it. It's another game distribution platform like Steam, but exclusively for indie games. There are some Kickstarter elements built in as well, so you can fund games with your preorders and get early alpha access or other bonuses. Generally games here are pretty cheap, as are almost all indie games when compared to big-budget titles.
What if you want a game but don't want to pay for it at all? This site lets you sign in with your Steam account, and anyone can put up games as giveaways that anyone can enter. Your chances of *winning* the giveaway are pretty slim, of course, but if you keep plugging you might get lucky without ever paying a cent.
CheapShark indexes game sales across a wide variety of retailers, so if you're interested in a title, you can look it up on CheapShark and know you're getting the best deal available at the time.
So what other money-saving tips do you guys have for the gamer on a budget?

Indeed, but all those games are available on PC/Mac/Linux as well. I *do* have an Android, but barely touch it unless it's for work, the iPhone won me over.
Everyone can now install the DoTA 2 spectator client to watch existing DoTA 2 games and the upcoming DoTA 2 international. I just installed it and watched a game and it was pretty interesting. Couldn't figure out how to train on watch just one hero, but it was fun to see the game play out in real time.
If you want to nab DoTA 2 now, you can pay $30 for some DoTA items and beta access to play right now. I think ill just wait for the actual release, but its really tempting... I might pay to play it earlier.
Check out the DoTA 2 spectator client and let me know what you think. Is DoTA 2 something you are interested in?

I watched a tournament game. I have no idea what the hell was going on.
I got into the beta a while back but haven't jumped in yet. I mean, I got the beta invite during the Steam sale, come on! What did they expect?
But being one of the last 5 people left who haven't played the original DOTA, I was kinda lost. It looks a bit like what would happen if a Diablo-style game got dropped into the Warcraft world, with a few mechanics of War3 coming in as well.

Yep. It's essentially two teams trying to overwhelm the others base. It's super competitive and gets really quite hard. Hopefully when It drops they will have bits and private games do we don't get lambasted for being newbs. :)
That's always been my problem with super competitive games. People are so serious about it you are practically helpless if you don't dedicate 16 hours a day to it.

Hopefully they ship bots or have a easier mode. If not, yeah it might not be as much fun.
I've gotten into the beta for this game. It's... well. I dunno. I've played a similar game (see my previous post on Demigod) and I was really looking forward to this game and was really excited to get into the beta but it is really not beginner friendly. I don't mind losing in a game (especially a game I'm new at) but getting dominated so badly you feel like you never get a chance to really learn what you're doing sucks. I'm hoping there will be a option to play against bots until I can at least get use to the 30 or so different heroes so I at least know what my own abilities do before jumping into more matches against other people. :)
If they had an option to play private games, I think this could be a lot of fun with the rest of the CheerfuGhosters though.
I much prefer games with friends than games with strangers who will just annihilate you or grief. For example, I played a little CoD4:MW online, and I just don't see the appeal. It's not that the game isn't well-made, or that the content isn't fun, it's the *people* who ruin it. Same with Halo 3. I just play solo unless I can play with friends.
Addendum to the above: The only exception is TF2. Maybe the "It's too cartoon bro, why would you ever play that junk?" mentality drove away all the assholes. I played TONS of TF2 online and loved every minute. A teammate I was on at one point said "Wow, I don't even care that we're getting our asses handed to us, I feel honored to see this. They are AMAZING."
How often would you hear that in CoD?

I think we all agree. Fun is good, lamers are not. Private games help, bots help but a great community and game style helps more.
Hopefully DoTA 2 has bots and I am pretty sure they will have private games at least. But if no bots then how does one fill a game?
