Bioshock Infinite Contest Entry: Bioshock was the game I somehow couldn't get into it, until I saw it at my friend's pc. It looks quite awesome in these old days and it became as one of must-play games on my list. It's fair to say the biggest advantage here is underwater town, that's brilliant idea. Exploring this town, accidentaly encoutering Big Daddy's (who are also awesome, in their's "Diving Suits") protecting Little Sisters gives this unique feeling which is hard to find in nowadays shooters. Its worth to mention also great plot: discovering what happened to Rapture and meeting... Read All

I'll be honest, I played and beat Bioshock 2 before I even touched the first game. I think it was a good decision. To go from being a powerful Big Daddy to just a regular human was...humbling. Rapture got much larger, and much scarier. The gameplay was more difficult, and I thought that was a good thing.

As for the story elements, it was top-notch. Ryan was just the right mix of idealist and madman. But saying that, his policies made sense.

Relating to the city of Rapture itself, it was incredible. The city is dead, but it looked like it was so alive. It felt as if the life was actually sucked out of it.

So it took me a while to get this post done, but eventually I manged to to finish it. :P Kind of similar to my experiences with BioShock.

I went back to my account history and found out that BioShock was actually both one of my first games on Steam as well one of the first games I bought in the Steam store (instead of adding retail keys from "boxed games" - those things no one buys any longer today :P ). However, although having a really, really small game library back then (basically just Half-Life 2 + Episodes 1 & 2 and a few very selected other titles), I didn't even download the game within the first 4 months or so of the purchase. About 2 more months after, I... Read All

It's hard to forget the opening scene of the original Bioshock. The first time I played through the demo back when I still had my 360, I sat there awestruck at what lay before my eyes after emerging from the wreck of my plane. The flames dancing on the surface of the water strewn with metal and luggage in the utter darkness of the middle of the ocean at night was something straight out of ones worst nightmares. Little did I know then what was waiting for me just under the surface. Rapture, and the dystopian universe that 2k Boston (woot for my hometown!) created were straight out of a Ayn Randian steampunk fantasy. We were introduced to such iconic figures in gaming... A philosophical text wrapped in a survival horror game. There's something that makes the game even scarier than all the shadows and jumps, and that's the dystopian atmosphere. You really feel like this was a place whose bright ideals became corrupted and ultimately self destructive. Truly a masterpiece of game design.

Bioshock. A game which has questioned one thing in us: Are video games can be a piece of art? Yes, they can be. Bioshock's mood is very unique. Mostly it's pretty scary and sad, giving the real feeling that everyone in Rapture is crazy, and the whole city is anarchic. The little dialogues between the splicers and the music of the 1960's are giving a very great retro feeling. And the story. Yes, the story, which makes the game the most interesting. A separated, much different world which has fallen by the real world...it has a very educating society critic, symbolizing with the foundable audio tapes, and the caracters, and the technology of Rapture. The story makes big... Read All

BioShock Infinite Contest

I am ashamed to admit that I only played BioShock very recently. I decided to play it after reading about Infinite's upcoming release and adored every moment of it. BioShock is one of the best games out there. I've never before played a game that blended story and action in the way BioShock did. The ability to listen to audiotapes while still progressing through the game was a genious addition to the game as it let you experience the story without turning the game into a big long cutscene or having to stop the action and read a piece of the backstory. I played BioShock over the course of two days because I simply couldn't bring myself to put... Read All

Bioshock is an amazing game. Right from the start I was taken into this amazing (although creepy) world, that held me til the very end, and even long after I completed the game! The characters are unique and a little insane, but that's what makes Bioshock such an interesting play! The game mechanics are great, the plot is excellent, and the environments are so detailed and amazing. After finishing the game for the first time I found myself quite upset that it had to end! But then I played it again (and I would gladly play it a third, fourth and even fifth time - not many games that I can say that about!)

Overall Bioshock is a great play, as is Bioshock 2 and I'm sure... Read All

Bioshock 1 probably one of the best FPS ever grace current generation and I'm not trying to exaggerate the praise for this game. I remember playing this game in class with my friends watching, fortunately I wasn't get caught playing in the middle of a lesson. Honestly, I've beat the game on the pirated version and then bought the game 2 years later just because it's just THAT good (back then, I didn't even know about steam). Hell, I've even promoted this game to my friends, even bought one of my friend a copy of this game just for the sake of it.
One thing that I like from the first Bioshock is the moral system and the little sisters. The fight with big daddy is also... Read All

first of all i'm writing this on behalf of the "Bioshock Infinite Contest" here on Cheerful Ghost, however that doesn't mean Bioshock wouldn't deserve something written about it otherwise especially with the name game in the series "Bioshock infinite" right around the corner.

well then:
Back when bioshock came out and i finally got to play it i thought it was an amazing game in all possible aspects though ever so slightly disturbing or freaky at times but the mix kept you on the edge of your seat since you never knew what to expect, all in all the game was enjoyable for most people since it had a fun way of getting you accustomed to new powers or game mechanics (for...
