Here are a few changes that I am not entirely in love with:
* Chlorophyte is slightly more rare and grows slower.
* Golden shower debuff time was reduced to 10 seconds..
* Golden shower now only penetrates 5 targets.
* Golden Shower now does slightly less damage.
* Lowered the damage of Chlorophyte Bullets.
Some changes I like:
* Plantera bulb's don't spawn until all 3 mech bosses are defeated.
* You cannot... Read All I haven't had much time to process the entirety of the 1.2.3 update but at first blush, it looks like the game just got Nerfed. I don't mind adding more progressing or making things a little less easy to get, but some of the changes in this patch hit me "in the feels."

All told the changes seem to make the games progression a bit more linear. I kind of appreciate what is being done, but I don't entirely like the nerfs I listed. That said, it's great that the game is getting more attention and I can't wait to see more patches and the final Lunar boss fight!

Mmm yeah, overall this feels like a downgrade without some extra stuff to fill the gaps. The bee gun damage is definitely welcome, but the nerfs to chlorophyte hurt quite a bit. It was already rare as hell on a multiplayer server (granted, it would probably be a little abundant for single-player worlds), and golden shower is a lot less effective. I mean that was a go-to spell for me, and many others. I guess that's why it got nerfed though, you don't want a go-to spell that everyone uses. I would have preferred to see some buffs to bring the other spells up to the utility of golden shower though. Life crystals no longer spawning in the dungeon is a little disappointing, though I was generally at max life by then. The mana potion debuff that decreases magic damage is a big hit. That one hurts hard.
But yeah, I'm glad the mech bosses are tougher. And some of the non-balance changes are fan-damn-tastic...
- The infinite wiring would have come in quite handy on our last world.
- Little things like stackable buckets are a life-saver too for filling up massive pools.
- Ore stacking to 999 is a GODSEND. OMG this is amazing.
- Saplings on all grass types is handy. That makes farming jungle trees far easier
- Replaced Tree 9's graphics? Good, that tree was a slacker. I have no idea what I'm talking about.
- The upside-down slopes are awesome. That was one thing I wanted with the slopes added in the last update. Not a huge thing, but it will help for some of the creative builds people do.
- More common pyramids are great, since I only ever saw one of those in the few worlds I made last update. I wish living trees were more common as well.
And a few other little things are welcome. But the nerfs are a little harsh. I'm sure I'll still love it! :)
NO!!!!!!! They changed my Golden Shower!! That was my pride and joy the last time I played! I'm looking through some of these changes, not really understanding why some of the things changed, not liking that my Golden Shower has been negatively affected. I agree with Travis about the ore stacking! Oh, my Terra Blade is upgraded!!! Oh, they fixed the Queen Bee bug! I've never fought her without that bug appearing, I found it really helpful. I'm not sure why they removed Life Crystals from the Dungeon, but I know that by the time I made it there, I didn't need them anymore.
You heard it here first, Greg loves golden showers.
Only the magic one! LOL
Yeah this update was kind of a mixed bag. That magic potion debuff seems kind of harsh and unnecessary. :\ And why oh why did they nerf my golden shower! The lowered damage... yeah ok I can kind of understand that but capping how many enemies it pierces will really hurt when trying to do the Pumpkin/frost moon events. The unlimited wiring and increased stack limits is awesome though! They also nerfed the heart lantern and campfire regen buffs, which kind of sucks.
Right. It seems Red wanted the game to be a bit harder. Maybe enough people will chime in and he will undo a few of the Nerfs. Whats interesting is I saw a beta version of these changes and it was WAY more Nerfs than what they rolled with, that set of changes would have really crapped up the game.
Considering I haven't finished the Pumpkin and Frost Moon events, this "nerf" to the Golden Shower is disappointing. I'll probably have to try it out and see how badly it's been "nerfed." The strategy I was using the last time I tried the Pumpkin Moon event included using the Golden Shower, Nimbus Rod, and Staff of the Frost Hydra. This may be what I need to do to finish the event.
Travis, I'm apparently not the only one. LOL
So I've played a little bit of 1.2.3 and I thought I'd share my first impressions. First of all, I realized that I needed to reforge my Golden Shower as it had a -10% knockback debuff on it. Now it consumes less mana, it might be stronger, too, I'm trying to recall the buffs it got after the reforge. The menu has changed a bit, as for most of it, I don't mind, but having my selected slot highlighted in yellow is not a change I like. I don't think there's a setting to change the color and it's real not of much concern, I just think it's ugly. It seems my character sprite (if you want to call it that) has changed, too, but I noticed that you can select whether or not accessories are visible, maybe that's why my character looks uglier. I think I noticed a performance change, in that the game seemed to load quicker. Even the large world you created for the server didn't take very long to load, so I'm impressed with that. I also noticed a video setting where you can change the quality, one setting was called "Trippy." LOL I also realized that the Golden Shower isn't my pride and joy (well, it was for the few times I've used it), it's the Spectre Staff that's my pride and joy.
I decided to try out my new mage set in the Dungeon because I was failing against the Paladin. So far, I've gotten used to using magic and the Paladin is easy, it just hasn't dropped anything yet. I've been sitting in a spot in the Dungeon usually above my enemies and using a Frost Staff to summon a Frost Dragon that attacks my enemies for a few minutes. It's a nice set up and it works, but I'm still not surviving the Pumpkin Moon.
Mourning Wood is always the bane of my Pumpkin Moon existence. With the melee set, I could kill maybe two of them, but now usually one alone gets me every time. It doesn't help that it follows me to my house where I spawn and kills me right away. Still, I have two different armor and weapon sets to try out and have fun with.
I did manage to create a Glowing Mushroom biome above ground to get the Truffle to move in. I bought some of his goods, especially the Autohammer. I was looking at the Shroomite Armor, if I got that together, I'd have all three "endgame hardmode armors."
The Crimson is taking over my house!
Awesome. Before we pop hardmode we build a area around our village that keeps the crimson out. Well, Travis usually does that :D
Awesome you figured out magic. How does it compare to your melee setup?
Well, I've not bothered with trying to reduce the spread of the Crimson or the Hallow. I don't know that it's really an issue. I'm interested to see if it spreads to the other side of my house. Right now it just seems to be painting my stones red.
That's a good question! As I said, it is sad that my defense is lower, but the magic can heal me, I just have to use it. I found it quite effective against the Paladin because I usually get him in a spot where I can hit him with my magic and he doesn't touch me. He usually spawns in a little curvy kind of place that goes in a vertical direction. Usually, I'm below him and he's trying to get to me and therefore isn't able to reach me, he just keeps trying to get near me, but doesn't go far enough to the left to come down to my level. You know how enemies will do that? Still, against the Mourning Wood, it's not that great since I can't even kill one and one always kills me. I'm tempted to carry both suits of armor with me and change them up from time to time. If I was playing with other players, I could be very helpful as my magic heals players when it hits an enemy. Since I'm the only player in my world, it heals me.
Have you crafted a Golden shower spell? It's really useful during the pumpkin moon event because it pierces enemies, meaning you can hit multiple mobs all at once and heal from all of them. Eventually you'll get a bat scepter or a Razorpine (from Frost Moon) which, although not piercing, are higher damage and rapid fire so they end up becoming better in the long run. Even then I still use the golden shower to stick the Ichor debuff on enemies first.
During the Pumpkin/Frost moon events I also use a Nimbus Rod, which creates up to two rain clouds that also pierce enemies and counts as magic damage (therefore triggering your heal effect). I set the rain clouds directly above me and then stand on a platform directly above the enemies so they will group up under the clouds.
Ah, that's something I was missing! Travis mentioned the Golden Shower, but I didn't look it up. I was looking for a Bat Scepter, he mentioned that, too. I'll have to look into that, thanks. I do have a Numbus Rod. Those moon events are brutal!
Lately I've been using an awesome Spectre Staff that seems to have a stat of 100 for magic damage. I also have a Quick Nimbos Rod, other Spectre Staffs, and other weapons as well. For summoning, I've been using the Staff of the Frost Hydra (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Staff_of_the_Frost_Hydra).
I just crafted the Golden Shower, but haven't used it yet. I apparently have another spell that I haven't used yet. It's the Magnet Sphere (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Magnet_Sphere). I didn't realize I could craft with my bookshelf, I just put it there as decor, so that was cool. I'll give some of these things a try.
I want to second getting a Razorpine, that is a great magic gun.
Using the Golden Shower, Nimbus Rod, and my Staff of the Frost Hydra made my latest Pumpkin Moon event easier. I realized that since the Mourning Wood was killing me and following to my spawn point (my bed in my house) and kept killing me there, that I should move my bed to a higher floor. Since I had to move a table and chair to do so, I ended up creating a new floor to my house. I'm not sure how many floors I have now and I should probably take an updated screen shot of my humble abode. I'm thinking of using a screen shot of my character in Spectre Armor as my new avatar, too, I think that would be real appropriate here.
Anyway, I did die once, but since I spawned at a higher level than usual, I had no problems finding my nurse (on the same floor), healing, and going back out into the fight. I defeated the first Mourning Wood, but the second ended up running away like a vampire runs from the dawn. I wish there was a way to change the time, so I wouldn't have to wait around for night to do my moon events. I seem to recall reading something about being able to do that, but I can't remember what it was, if I did.
As far as I know there is yet one boss I haven't defeated and that's the Eater of Worlds, so I'm thinking about going to my 2nd world (the one with the Corruption) to take that one down. I don't expect it will be difficult since it's not a hardmode boss.
I really haven't even touched magic in the game. Sure, I tried out the Scythe drop from Demons in the... Read All I feel like I've reached the end of what I can do in Terraria, which does make me feel a little sad at the least. I've reached another difficult part of the game, one in which I need something new and better to continue. I did both the Pumpkin and Frost Moon events, which were difficult once the bigger mini-bosses came out. The Paladin in the Dungeon is also a difficult foe. I haven't searched thoroughly enough, but I'm pretty sure I can't get stronger armor or a stronger melee weapon. My best bet against these more difficult foes is probably magic and ranged weapons.
I really haven't even touched magic in the game. Sure, I tried out the Scythe drop from Demons in the Underworld, but otherwise haven't used any other magic and didn't even use that one very long at all. As for ranged weapons, I've used my Star Cannon a few times, but I don't think it really helped me out as much as I needed. I did, however, use a nice Zealous Enchanted Boomerang near the very beginning, which was my weapon of choice for a while. I've also used the ranged ability that comes with having a Terra Blade. In fact, I've found it most helpful against bosses (the Twins and Skeletron Prime) that don't always get close enough to hit. I've also enjoyed hitting close enemies with the blade, while aiming at further enemies, defeating them before they could reach me, all at the same time.
I remember reaching this point a few times during the game, usually when I was up against a difficult boss, and I was able to pass it with upgrades to my weapons and armor. But, as I said, this is one time where I can't really upgrade my armor and I believe I also have the best melee weapon. I could be totally wrong, but I'm quite sure about the armor. Perhaps magic and ranged weapons are the key to surviving these new difficult threats. Maybe I should look further into both. I have been saving my Chlorophyte ore so that I can make Chlorophyte bullets.
Still, I've spent 159 hours in the game and I love it and want more! It is similar to Minecraft, even with it's own differences. I think both games are a bit new, at least new to me, and they seem to stand out among all else that I've seen or heard about. I want another game like these two games. Starbound seems similar, but after watching a trailer for it on Steam, I was wishing it looked more like Terraria. Both games are obviously not graphically intense, but Starbound just didn't look as nice and appealing as Terraria. I'm not sure if I'll give it a try.
What do you think? Are there other similar games out there that you'd recommend? Or what do you recommend for this point I've reached in Terraria? I'm still playing Pokemon X, I just captured the legendary Pokemon and have one badge left to get. After that I'm planning to play The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. I feel quite oblivious to the gaming world and don't know of much of what's out there and what's good and great. I just know that just about everyone's playing a bunch of FPSs, that I'm really not interested in. I enjoyed the Dooms and Quakes way back in the day, but also RTS games as well. But then, when I went to college, I fell in love with RPGs. Now I'm loving the mine and build kind of games, although I'm only familiar with 2 of them. So, what are your recommendations? Or, what are you playing? What have you played that you've really enjoyed? Also, what are you expecting to play soon or in the future?
Right now, I have no interest in a next-gen console, although I may get a Wii U if or when that new Zelda game comes out.
It seems like there's an imbalance in the game, or I'm missing something. With the spectre armor and a good magic weapon, you can dominate the pumpkin/frost moon events. Melee is basically a lost cause for those. So yeah, you have some chlorophyte on hand, go harvest some ectoplasm and make the spectre armor and snag a bat scepter (which you can get in the early waves of the pumpkin moon) and the golden shower and you're a powerhouse. I'd also google some gear loadouts for your accessories. There are some configurations that work better than others for the endgame events.
I will tell you a couple of things about Starbound though.
First-- it's amazing. It isn't done yet and it's already amazing.
Second-- don't play it yet. It isn't done yet so you're likely to get burnt out on it before you even get the full game.
Third-- and don't make this a habit, Greg, but as it so happens I have an extra copy of Starbound if you're interested. I'm not going to keep giving you every game you show interest in :D
Hahahahaha! You made me LOL with your last statement! Fortunately enough for me, since last month affordability for games is not an issue. In fact, I was astounded to see the balance of my bank account today (for I had another large deposit). One of my friends says I need to upgrade my PC, which is a bit aged now. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ processor, 4 gigs of RAM, and a Geforce 8800GTS. I'm willing to bet you're more familiar with recent hardware than I am and you could probably get a good idea of the age of my PC's components. But, I'm not sure I'm ready to upgrade. I haven't even bought new fans for it since 2 of 3 of them died on me in recent months.
When is Starbound supposed to be done? I hate to say that I found the video for it to be visually unattractive. I'm not saying that Terraria looks bad at all, but Starbound looks much less visually appealing. That is, just speaking from what I saw in the video. Now we could also argue that graphics don't necessarily make a game and I'm not one that has to have this beautifully rendered HD game either. In fact, I think many of today's gamers would be turned off of even Terraria's graphics, but I think that game looks nice. I admit, at first, I wasn't sure about the 2D thing, but I came to really enjoy it. That could perhaps happen with Starbound and it could be that the graphics are actually better looking than they were in the video. Maybe it's something I'd appreciate more if I played it.
I've had lots of fun with Prison Architecht and even made a video and posted it on the site.
I'd recommend a few other games like Fez and FTL too. Like Travis said Starbound is great and like you I didn't love the art style at first, but it grows on you or at least did for me.
Awesome, thanks Jon! I trust Travis, when he says the game is amazing. I'll look into those other games.
I should say this, too, it's still amazing that Travis still has an influence on the games I love and play. It's thanks to him that I fell in love with Final Fantasy VIII and therefore the series in general. =) Thanks, Travis!
Yeah, Travis is pretty awesome.
Oh and he was fucking right on with BioShock Infinite too. If you see that game on sale, pick it up and play it!
Aw, shucks guys. *blush*
Ok, I "Googled" the specs for BI. My computer *might* be able to handle it, but it doesn't meet the recommended specs.
Right. Worth considering that BioShock Infinite runs on the PS3 and XBox 360 so if you computer is a few years old, it should be ok. What are your system specs?
From and earlier comment to Travis, "I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ processor, 4 gigs of RAM, and a Geforce 8800GTS."
I was finally able to defeat Plantera, The Twins, Skeletron Prime, and the Golem. I know the Terra Blade was very helpful, especially helping me defeat those pesky bosses who wouldn't allow me within range to hit them with my sword before. They couldn't escape the power of the Terra Blade.... Read All So, I was able to upgrade to a Terra Blade. It's an interesting sword, in that it's a bit of a ranged weapon as well as melee. I can't at the moment recall what bonuses are on it or what the damage stat is, but it's better than the Corsair I've been using all throughout Hardmode. In fact, that Corsair was better than a True NIght's Edge and a True Excalibur. I was surprised!
I was finally able to defeat Plantera, The Twins, Skeletron Prime, and the Golem. I know the Terra Blade was very helpful, especially helping me defeat those pesky bosses who wouldn't allow me within range to hit them with my sword before. They couldn't escape the power of the Terra Blade. Mwahahaha. I defeated Plantera a few times more to get more Temple Keys. I had a Hallowed and a Frozen Key Mold, then I got a Jungle Key Mold, and now I'm trying to get a Crimson Key Mold. I did go back into the Dungeon to open some chests and it was like, "who turned on the Hardmode in the Dungeon?"
Seriously, the Dungeon (after defeating Plantera) is no joke! I beat the Paladin once, I think it killed me a few times, but it didn't drop anything I wanted from it, so I'm looking for it again. Some of the enemies in the Dungeon (the Skeleton Mages) are pretty annoying/frustrating.
I changed from Fairy Wings to a Jet Pack after I misread the wiki, I thought the Jet Pack was better, but I didn't read the chart correctly. I'm glad the Fairy Wings are better because the Jet Pack's sound is kind of annoying. I'd still like to upgrade my Wings, but I'm going to need some ingredients (drops) from enemies that spawn during the Pumpkin Moon. I'll work on that some time soon.
I haven't messed with magic yet, but I'm already impressed by the staves I have collected. I haven't even tried them out, but some of them look like they have awesome stats!
One last thought....sometimes I think there has to be some kind of formula for calculating drop rates for items wanted. The formula has to take into account how bad you want the drop, perhaps, because the listed drop rates seem to be way off when you're looking for something in particular. Haha. Yet, at the same time, sometimes I think the game knows what I want and lets me feel lucky (such as giving me the two Broken Hero Swords I needed to finish the rest of the ingredients needed for the Terra Blade). Still, it keeps me playing, which is good because in a way I don't want to "be done" with this game. I don't know what I'd move onto next, even though I'm still playing Pokemon X and planning to play The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds after that. Minecraft is still tempting, but I feel like I've reached a point where I'm not sure what I want to do with it next, probably go explore another area because I can't seem to have enough diamonds.
I'm currently working on getting the final ingredient that I need to make an Ankh Charm and thus an Ankh Shield, which will be an upgrade to my Obsidian Shield. The shield will make my character immune to all debuffs, I believe. The final ingredient I need is a Nazar, which is dropped by a few things such as the Cursed Hammer and Cursed Skull, among others. I've spent some time in the Dungeon hunting Cursed Skulls, but still none have dropped the Nazar yet. That said I have a LOT of Bones! I have a chest nearly full of them! I may decide to use them and the Bone Wand to make a Sky Bridge, because eventually I want to get some wings! I already have some Broken Bat Wings, but need some Souls of Flight.
I'm looking forward to upgrading my sword, eventually to the Terra Blade. Currently, the Hardmode bosses are defeating me. I fought Plantera a few times after getting the Turtle Armor and it still defeated me. One of the best things I found, though, was being able to fight it in a Bee Hive, so that I can get the regeneration stat buff from dipping myself in Honey. LOL Still, I think a better weapon is needed.
Skeletron Prime has defeated me as well. I don't believe I've summoned it, but it shows up. It showed up plenty of times as I was above ground hunting Pixies for Ankh Charm ingredients they drop (Alarm Clock & Megaphone). Fighting for those ingredients made me think that I really do like the Hallowed. It's "pretty" as I've said before. Pixies are cool, it's kind of sad that they're enemies. The Unicorns were cool, too. Also, I think my favorite Slime is the Rainbow Slime. It's just so "pretty!" It changes colors and drops Rainbow Blocks that do the same.
The Twins have also come out at night to fight me. I've found (what I think is) a great strategy for fighting them. I noticed in my above ground Snow biome (corrupted by the Hallow) that they can't shoot through the ground. There's one part where I have a tiny little island above my head and the area nearby is slightly hilly. That was a great defense against the Weapons of The Twins, although I was still susceptible to their melee attacks, but that's how I was able to hurt them. The best that I've done against them is defeating one of them, instead of both. I think I'm going to have to upgrade my ranged weapon to a Megashark, which means I'm going to have to find some Sharks! I've read that Vampire Knives are good for these bosses, too, but I haven't looked into them yet.
For the hardmode bosses, I suggest making an arena of a few levels of platforms so you can get around well, and plenty of the best bullets you can buy/make and a megashark. At least until you get the really badass magic later on in hardmode.
But wow, you already have the top-tier melee armor. I'm impressed.
Hahahahaha I'm glad you're impressed, Travis! That's a good idea about the platforms, I hate when the bosses move away from me when I move in to swipe at them with my swords. Oh! I made a True Excalibur sword, but it's apparently just slightly weaker (only going by the damage stat) than my Corsair. I did notice that when I equipped my Avenger Emblem, that my sword's damage increased and was 75, I think. Without that Emblem, it's just 68. It's interesting how that keeps changing, but I think that's because I change out my equipped accessories here and there. That said, I'm thinking of writing about what I have and asking for suggestions. It's kind of hard to decide which accessories to equip. I don't think I used my Avenger Emblem enough and I want to try to remember to equip it when fighting these bosses.
That said, I just got the Nazar I was looking for and I believe I can make my Ankh Shield. I'm not sure if my world has oceans big enough for sharks, but I'll go look for them. I also plan to build a sky bridge so I can get up there for some Souls of Flight (but I've pretty much already said all that).
As for the armor, it's kind of hard to decide which to use, but I think the Turtle Armor set is probably the best as it has the highest defense stats and makes attackers take damage, too. I haven't decided to stop mining Chlorophyte because I might try that armor set. As for magic, I've hardly messed with it at all.
I'm afraid of getting to the point where I don't know what else to do in the game, I don't want to stop playing! If I'm able to beat the remaining bosses, I might try out the console or mobile versions of the game.
Well according to your Steam profile, you're 136 hours in, which is pretty damn good for one character.
By which I mean, you've gotten your money's worth. Or rather, my money's worth :D
Hahahahaha! Indeed! I greatly appreciate the gift!
I'm afraid I've reached that point. I'm not sure what else to do now except wait for an Eclipse so I can (hopefully) get another 2 Broken Hero Swords so I can make a Terra Blade. I did make Fairy Wings and found to Floating Islands, I still needed to build a sky bridge to reach them, which I made of bone. The wings are nice and make my character move faster with jumping and flying. Still, it seems the Jet Pack is better, so I'm waiting on the right moon phase so I can buy it from my Steampunker.
I tried to defeat Plantera again and failed. It's that second form of it that's so difficult. The first form hardly does any damage to me. I'm thinking and hoping that having a Terra Blade will make the fight easier. I also fought the Twins again, but the one I didn't defeat flew away at dawn, so I didn't beat it in time. I did create a Megashark, but it seems that the Star Cannon might be better, although that means I need to collect more Fallen Stars.
I'd recommend either magic OR gun damage for Plantera. That's how I killed him when I did. I can solo him now with pretty well. I could with my Chlorophyte Gear and weapons.
After you kill Plantera you can open the Temple, which is fun and HARD. After taking the temple boss you can try your hand with the Pumpkin Moon or Frost Moon events.

I read on Twitter recently that they are looking at doing another patch with some stuff in it, might be close to the final patch too if it features the final endgame boss, which would both epic and sad because the game won't get too many more updates after that.
Yeah Plantera can be hard, but with a little prep the golem is easy. You still have plenty to do! :)
Thanks, Jon! The only thing I've used Chlorophyte was for the Turtle Armor set. I read that Chlorophyte ammo is the best, so I'm trying to mine some for that, at least. I may have to try out the Chlorophyte Armor. Travis, I wish I knew what else to do. I wish I could beat Plantera and the other 2 hardmode bosses and get into that Temple, too. I'm a bit lost right now as to what to do. Oh, and Jon, I look forward to another Terraria update, but that would stuck if they stopped adding to it.
Chlorophyte ammo is great but the crystal ammo is easier to farm and does some pretty impressive damage.
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Crystal_Bullet
Cool, I'll look into it. I've mined some Crystal Shards to make Greater Healing Potions, but I'm thinking the easiest way to get those is to defeat the Destroyer. Anyway, I got real lucky tonight! During an Eclipse, 2 Broken Hero Swords were dropped! Now I have my Terra Blade and I just reforged some of my accessories to boost my defense. I believe my Terra Blade has a damage stat of 102, my defense is 82, I think.
I finally beat Plantera! It was very difficult! It kept beating me even with my new Terra Blade and using an Ironskin Potion, Regeneration Potion, Gingerbread Cookie, and my accessories with upgraded defense. I noticed that I had brought it down to less than 700 HP. I kept fighting it in a Bee Hive so that I could get the regeneration boost from a small area of honey. I had one little platform to get around him, and I was also using a Jet Pack. When my HP got extremely low, I noticed I had maybe less than 15 seconds to use a Greater Healing Potion, so I left the Bee Hive to escape Plantera for long enough to heal. Luckily, I did managed to escape, although it did chase after me, but I finally healed and beat it shortly after. Now, I'll be able to get into the Jungle Temple. I also read that after Plantera is beaten the Paladin will spawn in the Dungeon, so I might want to go fight that, too. I may have to fight Plantera again, though, because I have a Frozen Key Mold and a Hallowed Key Mold, so I'm going to need another Temple Key or two.
Plantera kicked my butt plenty of times, so don't feel bad. I eventually carved out an underground arena to fight in, which made the fight a lot easier. It was basically a large empty room so I had plenty of space to fly (I used wings and rocket boots) around with a few platforms to hold camp fires. I also had a little space on one side with a small pool of honey so I could jump in and get the health regen buff if needed. Below the arena i carved out something like six narrow hallways of jungle grass so my chances of having one of Plantera's bulbs spawn there was higher. Plantera drops a lot of great stuff, so you'll want to farm him a couple times at least. :D
For the really tough boss fights I recommend magic or ranged weapons. Melee is great for regular mobs/exploring (especially if you get a paladin's hammer!) but up against mobs that hit really hard it's better to keep your distance. By now you should be able to craft a Golden Shower spell (lol) which is really nice. It does decent damage, pierces enemies, and gives them a debuff that makes them take extra damage. Pair that with spectral armor and a magic cuffs and every time you hurt something you'll heal Health and when you get hit you'll heal Mana.
Cool strategy. Thanks for the tips. Like I've said, I haven't messed with magic yet. I've done some ranged weapons, mostly a Boomerang (one of the first I got was Enchanted and now I have a fire one) and then the Star Cannon (I have over 90 Fallen Stars now).
The star cannon ends up being not worth the cost. Seriously, the mega shark is plenty with chlorophyte or crystal bullets. Once you get through the pumpkin moon a few times you should get a badass spell or two as well and you'll be unstoppable.
Sweet. Well now I have over 100 Fallen Stars. I've been mining Chlorophyte, too, but haven't made any bullets yet. I made my way into the Jungle Temple and beat the Golem. It wasn't that hard, really. I beat Plantera again for another Temple Key and I need one more to make my Hallowed and Frozen Keys. Then I'll head into the Dungeon so I can unlock chests that I've been unable to open and fight the Paladin.
I defeated Plantera another couple of times to get the two more Temple Keys I needed. Then, after realizing I needed more Souls (of Fright and of Sight) to make my Hallowed and Frozen Keys, I beat the Twins and Skeletron Prime in the same game night (summoned separately). I also bought some Pumpkin Seeds from the Dryad and have almost harvested enough Pumpkin to make what I need to do the Pumpkin Moon event. I'll also collect what I need to do the Frost Moon one, too. I'm also planning to make my way into the Dungeon to open those locked chest I was never able to access and to find the Paladin (perhaps for the Paladin Shield).
Other than those things mentioned above, I'm not really sure what to do next. I noticed, though, when I find new ingredients and look them up, I find more things to do. For instance, I noticed that sometimes a temple will be spawned in the desert, that might be something interesting to try and find (perhaps by creating another world or more until it's there). I may even just start looking up different items (or ingredients) to find out what else there might be that I can do. While looking up the Moon Charm that I got during the last Blood Moon (I think I got 2 of them), I noticed a Neptune's Charm that requires Coral, which I don't think I've seen.
All that said, I'm still open to suggestions as to what else there is to do in the game. I feel like I'm drawing close to being done with it, which I'm not very fond of because I've really been enjoying this game. I think I hate that feeling when you're pretty much done with a game (or have finished one) and don't know what to do next.
After a while, Pirates began to attack. This is much like the Goblin Invasion, except the Pirates can't get inside your house, unless a door is open. I died many times! Luckily, during the fight, one of them managed to drop some Cutlass swords. Even luckier, one dropped a "Very Sharp" Cutlass, which is pretty strong! I have since put away my Night's Edge, since it isn't better than my new Cutlass. I miss having a sword that shined light when swung, but I can't complain too much as my new Cutlass has a damage stat of 59 (I believe) and some good modifiers on it. Along with the high damage that it does, one of my other favorite things about it is that it is fast! I don't think I've ever been able to swing a sword so fast, I love it!
In order to create a Molten Pickaxe (as recommended by a guide on the wiki), I had to mine more Hellstone. On my way to the Underworld, I noticed that my world changed. Not only were there new enemies, but part of the Underground layer containing lava got a graphical upgrade. One funny thought I had was that the Cave Bat has been upgraded to a Giant Bat. This made me think "Zubat has evolved into a Golbat."
I've now spent a little over 100 hours on the game and I'm still loving it. As I said, the new additions due to Hardmode are making me love it more. I have briefly encountered The Hallow, which seemed to be taking over my Crimson area. I also found a new Crimson area. Oh, and I did use my Obsidian Skull and a Cobalt Shield to make an Obsidian Shield, that was pretty helpful. I have not yet set about trying to contain The Hallow, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that and when, but for now I'm working on upgrading my gear. Oh, and I did find the Wizard. Also, earlier, the Party Girl moved in. I also have Wetbeard the Pirate in my house since I defeated the Pirates.
Your cobalt armor looks rad!
Thanks, I agreed! However, I just now upgraded to Mythril Armor, which isn't as beautiful.
One of the things you want to check out is the new Hardmode Jungle experience. It's tougher and Chlorophyte is now available to mine. You can craft some wicked stuff from Chlorophyte but need a certain pickaxe power to mine it. That said, it's one of the final tier armor / weapon tiers and it's got a really awesome set bonus.
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Chlorophyte_Ore
Awesome, thanks Jon! I haven't really explored the new Jungle yet. I remember the Wiki saying not to mine every piece of Clorphyte so that it can continue to grow. I've also managed to find some of the drops needed to summon the new bosses, though I'm not ready for them yet. One thing I think I need to do is organize the stuff I have in my chests as it's difficult to remember where I put everything and sometimes I overlook things. I've seen the message about the ground shaking a couple of times. I think this means Eater of Worlds might appear.
> I remember the Wiki saying not to mine every piece of Clorphyte so that it can continue to grow.
Yep, keep some around. That said, if you play all the time you should have a ton. On our shared server I left some, sometimes I didn't. As far as I know, we always had enough.
> One thing I think I need to do is organize the stuff I have in my chests as it's difficult to remember where I put everything and sometimes I overlook things.
Consistently one of the things I forget when I am organizing my stuff to start. I have two chests for common dirts / wood, 2 chests for enemy craftable drops(one for normal mode enemies, one for hardmode), one chest for swords, one chest for guns + bullets, one chest for magic weapons, one armor stand per OLD armor set + vanity set, one chest PER boss drop items+summon items. I store all my ores, cash and boss spawns in the piggy bank and shared vault.
Wow, that's awesome (your organization). Some of my stuff is organized, well all my metals are organized. However, I've stopped creating Iron and Lead, instead I'm saving those ores for Ironskin Potions.
I was wrong in my previous comment. The boss was not Eater of Worlds, but the Destroyer. I got the message again and then when I teleported back to my house (because I was near death), I was abruptly killed (along with my nurse).
I should probably go looking for Clorphyte since Adamantite is getting difficult to find. I found enough to create the Adamantite Forge, but no much extra for much of anything else.
I finally have Adamantite Armor. =) I can't get mine the Clorophyte yet because I need an upgraded mining too such as a Pickaxe Axe or a Drax. In order to make those, I need Hallowed Bars. I apparently can't get those unless I fight a Hardmode boss. The Jungle is a deadly area now, heck the Crimson is, too. I like the Hallow areas, they're cool and look "pretty." I did also beat an Ice Golem. I also picked up a dropped Hallowed Key Mold. I did a Charm of Myths and I do have a Cross Necklace (that I haven't equipped yet). I wish the pre-hardmode bosses also dropped Hallowed bars after defeating them in the Hardmode world. I'm not sure what else to do at this point other than to start fighting some Hardmode bosses. Since I have plenty of Voodoo Dolls, I'll probably take on the Wall of Flesh again, I do want a Warrior Emblem, the WoF I defeated dropped the Ranger Emblem.
So, want to know a funny joke? The Wall of Flesh!!! That's right, with my new gear, the WoF is a joke! I'm using my Voodoo Dolls and fighting it, it still hasn't dropped a Breaker Blade (which I might not need anyway) nor a Warrior's Emblem (but I have the other two). It seems my armor upgrades my weapon because my Cutlass now has a damage stat of 70. I also created a Star Veil. This battle is so easy now, I don't even need to use potions!
5 times, 5 times! I summoned and defeated the Destroyer 5 times in a row. =) I had summoned him before, but I didn't beat him before dawn, so it ran away. This time, I made 10 Mechanical Worms. That said, I now have a full set of Hallowed Armor, a Drax, and more Hallowed Bars. I'm thinking of making Excalibur, but I'm going to look up some Hallowed Bar recipes. Then, I'm going to head over to the Jungle and mine Chlorophyte. I did also (last night) summon Skeleton Prime a couple of times, but I did not survive. But, since then I've not only made Greater Healing Potions, the Destroyer dropped plenty of them. I have not yet summoned or fought the Twins, but the Destroyer definitely seems to be the easiest Hardmode boss, in fact it wasn't really difficult at all, I didn't use any potions nor did I ever heal myself (I didn't need to).
Good to hear you have having a good time with the Wall and Destroyer. When you get geared to a certain point, many of the bosses are not particularly hard. BUT the Pumpkin Moon and Christmas events are.. Wow are they...
> However, I've stopped creating Iron and Lead, instead I'm saving those ores for Ironskin Potions.
When I craft all I can from the bars of a particular ore I just collect and stash the ore for occasions such as this. It's always trivial to turn ore => bars but impossible to go back.
Awesome. I've started collecting Chlorophyte, but haven't found enough yet to make the armor. I've also fought Plantera twice and died each time, even with the use of Ironskin and Regeneration potions. I think the best that I did was getting it to about half it's life and a second form. The Jungle is dangerous!!! Seriously! I'm about stopping to use Healing Potions and starting to use Greater Healing Potions more. Oh and since I had a few Suspicious Eyes, I decided to use them and fight the Eye of Cthulhu again. Yeah, that was easy!
I think I'm going to skip the Chlorophyte Armor and get the Turtle Armor since it uses Chlorophyte and seems to be better.
I've never used the turtle armor so I can't vouch for it. Last time I played I we to Chlorophyte -> Spectral. Spectral is on of the best ways to survive the Pumpkin and Christmas events.
So, when I began to play Terraria, I decided to create a small world, since I was just beginning. Now I'm thinking of making a new world, either medium or large. It made sense at... Read All So, in the comments of my last post, I told you I figured out that the reason the Goblin Tinkerer and Mechanic didn't respawn in my house when I found them (and then they died) was because I didn't create rooms properly. Luckily, after figuring that out, both have respawned. Unfortunately, I thought (well hoped before really reading the wiki thoroughly enough) that the Tinkerer Workstation would allow me to combine some of the items I had. It apparently only works with certain items. Bummer.
So, when I began to play Terraria, I decided to create a small world, since I was just beginning. Now I'm thinking of making a new world, either medium or large. It made sense at first since I was new to the game and getting used to it. In a way I was afraid of not being able to find anything because the world was too big. Now I feel as though I have pretty thoroughly explored my little world and I'm not sure what else to do in it (except what I'm getting to).
That said, I read the wiki about Hardmode. I found out that to have your world upgraded, you need to defeat the Wall of Flesh. To summon it, you have to drop a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava. I had no idea what those voodoo dolls were for so I sold them. I didn’t even look them up on the wiki. I have one for the Clothier, too, I think. I finally took a piece of advice from the wiki and created an "arena" for this battle. That is to say, I made it so that I pretty much had a straight path to and from both sides of the Underworld. It wasn't difficult to set up and it was a great idea. I also read that it's a good idea to back up your world in case one of the bugs occurred or you later decided that you weren't ready for a Hardmode world. So, I've made a back up.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to defeat the Wall of Flesh. I have gotten it's HP into the red, but I still fail to defeat it every time. At this point I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep trying to defeat it or create a new world, both options are very tempting. I'm currently looking up some things that will help me in this battle. I'm thinking that if I create a bigger world, I might have more room for this battle, since my "arena" isn't perfectly flat. Also, I'd really like to explore new (to me) areas that aren't in my little world and hopefully to also find more items and such.
So, what are your thoughts on the Wall of Flesh battle? What strategies and items do you recommend?
It's not terribly easy to get, but a Star Cannon should make pretty short work of the Wall of Flesh. http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Star_Cannon
A megashark with meteorite bullets (meteorite brick + bullets) or a Demons Scythe (spell, drops off demons in Hell) works well too.
Just a tip about hardmode: Make sure you're done exploring/looting Hell and the Dungeon before switching to Hardmode. I'd also recommend making sure you've found and looted the floating islands too. Once hardmode starts there are new mobs that spawn in these areas that will make exploring difficult in the early part of hard mode. Also, you'll want the items you can loot from these areas for hardmode.
Thanks for the tips! I was looking at better weapons, although I can't remember which ones specifically, but I think I'm unable to make them or one of them I wanted. The Night's Edge requires the Blade of Grass, Fiery Greatsword, Muramasa, and Light's Bane or Blood Butcherer. Unfortunately, I sold the Muramasa that was found in the Dungeon. Also, I don't think I can get Demonite ore as my world came with Crimson instead of Corruption.
Since I've been fighting the Wall of Flesh all day and have come oh so very close to defeating it, I've decided that I need to create a bigger world. I need a new world so that I can get back that Muramasa and I'm also hoping to find Corruption instead of Crimson. If my new world gives me the ores and items that I need, I should be able to beat the Wall of Flesh. I did create Ironskin and Regeneration potions, which helped. I have some Demons Scythes, but the way it looked, my Fiery Greatsword dealt more damage.
So, my next step (that I have decided on) is to create a new world. I'm thinking of creating a medium one and check it out. I'm tempted to create a large one, but I think a medium one will probably do for now. My current world has been great and I'm really into the game, but I've reached a point to where my small world has become a bit of a limitation and I'm ready to move on to a bigger one.
Oh, as for floating islands, I haven't found any, but there's probably at least one some where at an elevation that I have not yet explored. I did, however, find an ocean at the far right end of my world, but it is pretty small.
Starcannon is pretty great for that fight. I don't think you can get a megashark till after hardmode...
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Megashark
Yeah, after hardmode.
Building a flat platform to fight the WOF on is a great idea. The only time's i've killed the WOF during normal mode were with WhiteboySlim & Travis so it was much easier than solo'ing. That said, I think you can take in on your own so ensure you have the full molten armor set and whatever sword that is(or better) and have the star cannon handy.
Getting some iron skin potions, pumpkin pies and regeneration pots might help too.
"Unfortunately, I sold the Muramasa that was found in the Dungeon. Also, I don't think I can get Demonite ore as my world came with Crimson instead of Corruption. "
There's probably more than one Muramasa in the dungeon. Or at least, there could be. On large worlds we've found at least three in there. And you don't need Demonite ore since you don't need Light's Bane. Blood Butcherer will work.
But I will say that melee on the Wall is insanely hard. Minishark with the highest tier bullets pre-hardmode (which I think WBS is right about, meteorite bullets) or star cannon or both will help.
And some gravity potions will help you find floating islands. You can also go into your world as a hardcore character, intentionally die, and then float around looking for them.
True, I could possibly find another Muramasa. I remember seeing some chests that weren't Golden and required a key. I may not have completely explore the dungeon, either, there may be some chests that I missed. You're right, also, in that the Blood Butcherer will work. I even read and said that and didn't even give it much thought.
I have finally tried gravity potions, which helped me find one Floating Island. I read that I could be a hardcore character and die and float around and look for them. Since I got the Tinkerer's Workstation, I did create those boots that let me fly a little, but I haven't gotten used to it yet. I tried it out a little bit.
I recreated my 3rd world (#2 is Vinny's and he only played it once I think), after I found it had Crimson instead of Corruption. My new 3rd world has Corruption, which I wanted to see and explore. I created a medium world. I also built a pretty dang high building to house all possible NPCs, even though I only have the Guide as of now. I think it has ten floors each divided in half, so 2 rooms per floor.
Thanks for the tips! Those are some good strategies I didn't even think about that I'll have to consider. =)
I made a Star Cannon. Now I wish I hadn't converted all those Fallen Stars to Mana Crystals. Well, at least now I have a good reason to save Fallen Stars! =) Oh, and I've almost spent 100 hours on the game, I'm getting there and loving it!
You should max out on mana for sure, later on it's super useful. That said, fallen stars aren't too hard to collect a ton of over time. :D
Right. Minishark. I meant the minishark in my previous comment. Sorry!
And yeah, fallen stars seem like they're rare when you don't have your mana maxed. But having a maxed mana is very useful, especially in hardmode when you start getting the really good magic weapons.
I didn't have any trouble maxing out my health or mana. I just never use mana. Well, I tried out the Demon Scythe, but I thought my sword would be more effective of a weapon. I'll try out my Star Cannon when I have more stars for ammo. Still, I think if I can craft that Night's Edge, it will give me the edge (no pun intended) I need to beat the Wall of Flesh.
You have to balance effectiveness of weapon vs. effectiveness of your defensive strategy. You could probably kill him faster with the Night's Edge, as long as you could stay alive, but using ranged will help keep you much safer for much longer.
I found out that the house I created isn't too big. It seems other NPCs were waiting on the Merchant to move in.
So, I found the Dungeon in my new world, but while I was talking to the Old Man, I was being watched. As I was fighting Skeletron, the Eye of Cthulhu showed up, so at one point I was fighting both of them. I said, "this is going to be fun!" Hahahahaha During the battle, I used a Healing Potion once and nothing else. Those, I suppose, are the easier bosses.
I like seeing Demonite in my new world. I love blue, so when I see it, I think it's beautiful. The Dungeon in my first world was made of Blue Brick (which I loved), but the new one is made of green. I'm still exploring the new Dungeon so that I can find that Murasama, so I can make my Night's Edge. I'm enjoying exploring my new world, it's pretty cool!
I finally defeated the Wall of Flesh!!! After creating my Night's Edge, I noticed that it was a "Broken" one. Sure enough! It's a good thing I had a Goblin Tinkerer, because I reforged it and it got a 10% damage modifier. Still, the WoF destroyed me (a few times). I decided to add a Gingerbread Man to the mix of buffs that I used (also including Iron Skin and Regeneration potions). I also used my Star Cannon. Ah, I feel accomplished now! Still, I wish the WoF dropped the Breaker Blade, that would have been sweet!
Now you get to kill him a few more times so you can get everything he drops! :)
Seriously, he drops some amazing things.
Hahahahaha!!!! Well now I should be able to make some better weapons and armor to make that fight much easier. The Wiki said after you beat the WoF, your world gets upgraded to hardmode.
So, during my visits to the Underworld, I noticed Shadow Chests, which require a key to open. I looked on the wiki and found out that those keys are in the Dungeon. I tried to get into the Dungeon, but was killed by the Dungeon Guardian. I, again, looked on the wiki and found out that you have to speak to the Old... Read All Having a gaming blog is now my new "thing." I've always considered myself a writer and one of the things I want to do with my gaming blog is to write about my experiences in the games I play. That said, you can expect to see lots about Terraria as I've been playing it lately. I also intend to write about Pokemon X, which I've been playing and enjoying as well.
So, during my visits to the Underworld, I noticed Shadow Chests, which require a key to open. I looked on the wiki and found out that those keys are in the Dungeon. I tried to get into the Dungeon, but was killed by the Dungeon Guardian. I, again, looked on the wiki and found out that you have to speak to the Old Man at the entrance at night about his curse and defeat him once he turns into Skeletron. So, I decided to do that today.
Skeletron was easy! Maybe it's because I'm using Molten Armor and a Firery Great Sword, but I didn't have any trouble defeating him. However, once I got into the Dungeon, things quickly changed. The Dungeon is crawling with enemies, traps, and spikes! If you go deep enough, the rate at which monsters spawn will increase. The Dungeon has lots of chests, some of which require a key to open. Shadow Keys are used for Shadow Chests located in the Underworld. One Shadow Key will open all Shadow Chests. However, Golden Keys can only unlock one Golden Chest. These keys are dropped by some of the monsters.
I found out on the wiki that the Dungeon is created to the far left or right of the world that was created, opposite of the Jungle. Apparently the color of the interior is random. I'm happy because my dungeon is made of blue bricks. Blue is my favorite color, I may have to steal some!
I finally have an avatar! I signed up with Word Press and created a Gravatar. I took a screen shot of my character, Blue. It looks like he's standing on water. See this link: http://imgur.com/ipJvTAN
A couple of notes...I haven't found the Goblin Tinkerer yet since the first time when I met him and he died in lava. In the Dungeon, I found a Mechanic (and wish I bought the Wire Cutters from him), but he didn't survive very long. Yesterday, I counted my NPCs and chairs and tables and I should have one or two openings. I'm not sure why those two NPCs have not yet respawned in my house. I may add more to my house to make sure that they come back, eventually I suppose. I'm thinking that in order to get the Goblin Tinkerer back, I'm going to have to defeat the Goblin Army again. They have not shown up for a second time yet, but today I did run into a Goblin Scout.
Oh! Last night I found out that Minecraft is now on the PS3! I downloaded and played the (timed) demo. Unfortunately, one of my biggest gripes about the game, Creepers blowing up structures and other useful things such as farms, happened again. I was delighted that the game contains the same music as the PC version (I really love the music of Minecraft). As for the controls, I think it would just take a little time to get used to, but I think they're ok, maybe even better than the controls for the console version of Terraria. I'm not sure if I will buy the game as I can play it for free on the PC and I think I prefer the controls (for both games) on the PC. If you're a fan of the game, I recommend watching the documentary, which is almost two hours long. I watched it last night. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySRgVo1X_18
The Goblin Army showed up again and was abruptly defeated! Now I'm on the hunt for the Goblin Tinkerer again. I upgraded my house with a new floor and 3 tables and 3 chairs. Since then, a new NPC has moved in. I should have enough room for the Mechanic (that I found trapped in the Dungeon) and Goblin Tinkerer to move in. I feel like I've pretty thoroughly explored the Dungeon. I know there are some chests left that I have yet to find a key to open.
Speaking of keys, I was hoping I'd find a Jungle key, so I can access the temple, but it seems (according to the Wiki) that I can't access it until I meet (or defeat) the Golem, which is only in Hardmode. That's a bummer.
I've opened some Shadow chests, but since I'm decked out in Molten armor and have a Fiery Greatsword, I'm not sure what else the game can give me that's better than the equipment I already have.
Another thought: Since I have an Underground Crimson environment, I was wondering if to destroy it or prevent its spread, if I have to destroy all of the Demon Hearts. I might give that a try, knowing doing so will also spawn the Brain of Cthulhu.
Speaking of the Goblin Army, I found another Goblin Scout today, which makes me think the Goblin Army will be back again soon. I look forward to defeating them again!
After looking at the Wiki, it seems the Goblin Scout does not mean that there will soon be a Goblin invasion. It is just a rare spawn, which I have seen two or three times now. Ok, I'm off to find the Goblin Tinkerer!
Awesome. Love reading this.
Thanks! I wish I could find that Goblin Tinkerer! I have no idea where it is.
I just figured out what my issue was with the Goblin Tinkerer, I didn't create my rooms properly. After building a couple of levels onto my house, I noticed a new NPC spawned on each floor, even though I had put three tables and chairs on one floor. After a look at the Wiki, I realized that I needed to create rooms instead of just floors. Once I did that, the Goblin Tinkerer arrived (and spawned nearby). I had to help him make his way up to the house as he couldn't seem to jump the few blocks up. I'm hoping that the Mechanic will respawn as well.
Yeah, good catch. Totally be odd to have explored the whole world and no Tinkerer!
When the next patch comes out for the new end boss I'll do another server so we can take him on. That or rent one, Travis had some info on that.
Cool!
After that battle, I thought "what next," and it was suggested that I get Molten Armor (... Read All Recently, I successfully beat The Brain of Cthulhu after making Crimson Armor (https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Crimson_armor) and a Blade of Grass (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Blade_of_Grass). It was a tough battle. I've only beaten this boss once and I stopped trying once I did. I fought it probably three or four times in total. I was afraid that I'd end up destroying all the Demon Hearts and wouldn't be able to summon it again, but luckily there are still some left. In the battled I used an Eggnog (to boost all stats) and a Thorns potion (because it runs into you).
After that battle, I thought "what next," and it was suggested that I get Molten Armor (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Molten_armor). It was easy to mine the needed Obsidian as I found some lava hiding under some water. The obsidian was in between the two and every time I mined some Obsidian, some more was created. The Hellstone that was required was much more difficult to obtain. I went back to the Underworld, where I previously had trouble surviving. This time, however, it wasn't that difficult. I did find it humorous that I was defeating fire enemies, such as Hellbats, with a Blade of Grass. You would think such enemies would be immune to a sword made of jungle grass or that the sword would catch on fire.
Luckily, I was able to mine the amount of Hellstone I needed, but I found a tip to share. It is a good idea, when mining Hellstone, to have something else in between your character and the Hellstone. It's also a good idea to have an Obsidian Skull as well. But, while mining the Hellstone, I found out that lava comes out of it, so I almost always made sure there was dirt or something between me and the Hellstone. Of course, I didn't always follow that tip as I have an item that gives me 7 seconds of protection from lava.
Not only was I able to make a set of Molten Armor, but I also made a Flamarang (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Flamarang) and finally a Firey Greatsword (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Fiery_Greatsword). I have not yet used the sword I made, but it was nice to upgrade the Zealous Enchanted Boomerang to a Flamarang. I did not sell my Crimson armor, I put it in a chest, but I'm tempted to use it again because even though it does not provide as much defense as the Molten armor, the set bonus is faster health regeneration. Still, one thing I wish the set of Molten armor would provide is immunity to lava, that would have been sweet.
I'm still hoping to find something that provides me complete immunity to lava. I'm also still hoping that I find a key to those chests I found in the Underworld. I also need to talk to the Old Man near the Dungeon so I can check that out. Also, I defeated the Goblin Army that arrived and I met the Goblin Tinkerer, but he ended up falling in lava and dying. I'm hoping he's respawned some where so I can find him again, but if he hasn't, I'm ready to defeat the Goblin Army once again (that would be for a second time).
Anyway, that's my latest Terraria update. I thought I'd write a new post about it instead of just commenting on my original post. Hopefully soon, I'll take a screenshot of my character to use as my avatar. I'm thinking I might use one without his armor (because I want to show off all the blue I put in him). I may also take an updated screenshot of my house, since I've added one or two floors since I took the last one.
Your comments are always appreciated and I also greatly appreciate the help and suggestions you have given me (with regards to Terraria and CheerfulGhost). I really do enjoy the game and this website.
The brain killed me more times than I care to admit. I found what worked best was to create an 'arena' for him, which consisted of a big open space and like eight rows of wooden platforms. I grabbed my shotgun and jumped around like a trigger-happy psycho path. The trick seems to be getting a decent area to move freely, as the brain is what really hurts you, not all of his minions.
Personally, I just created my second world, and so far corruption seems more interesting than crimson. Wait till you meet the Eater of Worlds. Now that was a fun boss.
That's cool, Nick! I read about creating an arena on the wiki, but didn't do it. Since the Brain keeps running into you, I decided to use a Thorns potion. I'm still on my first World and it is small. I believe I've found the left-side edge of my world as well. One time I found it while in my Underground Jungle and the last time I found it while in the Underworld.
Setting up an arena is a huge help when you're fighting bosses. Stick a camp fire and a heart lamp around the arena and you'll also have faster health regen through-out the fight. You can even get fancy and set up heart statues that spew out hearts every few seconds too. (On a side note, you should see the arena Travis set up on our CG server, it's pretty awesome.)
Once you've found the Goblin NPC he will move into your village/house/castle/whatever. All he needs is a suitable living space. If he's not re-spawning then that means you need more rooms/houses. An NPC needs a comfort item (like a chair) a light source, and a surface (table or work bench). And of course, the house needs walls, a background, and a door. :) Detailed housing info can be found here: http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Home
Thanks for the tips! I met him, but right after was when he died. He didn't get a chance to move in. I'm pretty sure I have room for him, I could be wrong though, maybe I'll make more room for him.
Success!!! I should get a new trophy for successfully embedding an image. I'm so proud! Hahahaha.
I just noticed! Look at my hotkey items list in the upper-left-hand corner, see the yellow? Ugly!
You can embed with a new post. You can pick image/video/sound.
I see that now, I ignored those icons before. Anyway, what I took from Jon was his Godly Possessed Hatchet (not a hammer). It's pretty cool. I was wrong when I previously said that Eater of Worlds was the only boss I haven't fought. So now I've defeated it and the Slime King. I'll have to look down the list to see what other bosses there are that I may have missed. I was surprised when EoW spawned after I blew up one Shadow Heart (or Orb), it's supposed to spawn after blowing up 3 of them. Ah well, I won anyway, so I'm not complaining. That Pumpking is a pain in the butt! I know I got it low on health once, but it defeated me and when I respawned and saw it again, it was back to full health. Bug?
You probably popped into a world where we had already done two of them after the last EoW fight. It's by world, not player, so it was your first orb broken, but you broke the third. If that makes sense.
Oh and no, that's not a bug with the Pumpking. It was a different Pumpking that spawned. In later waves you fight multiple Pumpkings.
That is what I thought, about the broken orb. As for Pumpking, well that makes sense, sure, but I'm not sure why a new one would spawn after defeating me and not being defeated itself. I didn't notice this happening with Mourning Wood, for instance.
Awesome, thanks for showing this and glad you are enjoying the CG server worlds we shared. It's kind of fun looking at the first ones and realizing how far we've all come as builders. On CGworld3 you should checkout the jungle and some of our bee areas. CGworld3 had a map that was damn near perfect as far as I was concerned.
The Pumpking despawns when nobody is around to fight it. Then, when someone *is* around to fight it, it comes back. Mourning wood just acts like a normal enemy, but Pumpking acts like a boss, despawning once the fight is over.
It is really awesome seeing how far we've come. My first house was so bad.
Thanks, Travis, that makes total sense actually! Yes, I'm thrilled to have three new worlds to explore! That has gotten me back into the game where as I reached a point to where I wasn't sure what else to do as I felt like I pretty much had everything I wanted or needed (yet still could not finish the Pumpkin Moon event). I'm amazed by what you guys did in each world. Yes, CGWorld3 is by the the absolute best and my favorite. The fact that the trap area helped me progress further into the Pumpkin Moon event is all the reason I need to believe that is the best one. They're all good, really, though. You guys put a LOT of work into it obviously! It's not wonder you all have spent so much time in the game, it's obvious you did. Another thing that really impressed me (other than your fabulous abodes) was that you have statues of armor and other wearable sets, including chests underneath each one that contains the materials. Ah, you guys are awesome! I'm so very glad I'm here and thankful that you've given me even more to enjoy!
Yeah I put together the armory when I got to the point where I was ready for hard mode but not everyone was. I needed something to occupy my time :)
But it helped immensely. That level of crazy organization was almost necessary when you get so much stuff you forget where you left it.
That's always the problem I have early game. I don't want to put a ton of effort into organizing since I know I'm going to rebuild so I end up having like 8 chests full of crap that's impossible to sort through.
LOL! Sounds like me, Travis. Not all of my chests are organized. I noticed the same with the CG worlds, so I organized a little bit (some people stackable things in separate slots, so I stacked what I could and moved items around in the way that I organize my chests, which is items going from left to right). So, I decided to go ahead a loot the CG worlds. I didn't really take much, yet I took a lot. I finally decided to put some things back as I really didn't need so many of one item. I did take the Hoverboard I found and reforged it so now it has +4 defense. I like it! I also took your Nightmare Before Christmas painting, created a new floor in my own place, and put it up. I wasn't going to, but decided to anyway. I also found out that I could sell all the bones I had in my own chests (I had one chest full of them), so I sold a bunch of them! Cobwebs aren't worth anything so I removed almost all of them from my chest and put them in a CG world. That's one thing I like about having these worlds, they are now mine and I can do as I want with them mwahahahahaha, so I can be as greedy as I want. Hahaha. As for structures and other things, I'm not making any changes. I explored the ground-level areas of CG1 and it makes me wonder if that one was a large world.
Also, do you guys remember finding any desert temples in any of these worlds? That would be cool. I plan to do more exploring, in part to see what you guys did underground. I did find some breakable pots, but otherwise I don't really need anything, so I probably won't do much mining (if any at all).
Cg world 3 was the only one we did after desert temples were added. There is one there but it's very small.
Cool, thanks! I'll have to check it out.
It's fine to "loot" the worlds as since they are copied on your system its not stealing :D
Yeah, Jon. I felt bad for it and even hesitated, but it's true that they are now my worlds. I still think there are items I should back so that they are there and my "World 1" doesn't have such an absurd amount (like my Greater Health Potions). I definitely did not take everything as I don't need everything. I'm probably also not going to sell anything in those worlds as I don't really need the money. Money was only an issue at the beginning of the game when I didn't even have 1 gold, now I have about 24 platinum!
Yeah money used to be harder to come by. It's really not in the 1.2 update. It's much better now. I think we averaged about 1 plat after all was said in done after the first two worlds, but after world 3 Jon, WBS and I had at least 25 plat each I think.
Sweet. It took me a while to realize I could make platinum coins.
You can also auto-stack it in a chest/bank/safe/whatever and it will make them for you
I don't think I ever realized that, Travis, thanks for the tip!
I was wrong, I have almost 27 platinum coins. Mwhahahahaha!!! Well, I did recently sell a bunch of my stuff, mostly duplicates of things I had that I don't need. I also sold that annoying Jetpack. I saved the Butterfly Wings, but I'm loving this Hoverboard! It's quiet, it's blue, and can go vertically and horizontally. I also sold a bunch of my Blinkroot which I collected from my own world and don't need. Ialso deposited a lot of the things I took from the CG worlds and put them in CG3. The amount of things I had was insane and unnecessary. I started exploring underground on CGW3. It's cool to see where you guys (I can safely say that because I don't believe any ladies have played it or reported playing it with you guys) had mined and tunneled, but you didn't get everywhere. I'm really surprised to have found so many breakable pots. I also like finding underground chests because I've picked up some things I don't want or need (like Healing Potions, the weakest ones) and can store them as I go about getting more stuff.
Oh, I forgot to ask an important question. Can Terraria run stand-alone without Steam? I'm giving this PC to my son when I get my new one and he wanted Terraria, but I don't want him to have Steam, although it might be safe since he's not going to have any credit card information to purchase anything (I don't want him to have Steam = I don't want him purchasing anything on Steam).
No, Terraria has to have Steam to run. At least legitimately. There have been some ways around it.
If you give him a Steam account you can use Steam family options to lock it down.
And yeah after I while I just stopped breaking pots. When you're mining for stuff it just fills up your inventory with useless stuff.
Hm, that may be something I have to look into, Travis. I wouldn't mind if I had to buy Terraria, it's certainly worthy of my money! I've almost put in 200 hours! As for the pots, well I do agree with you, but they can also contain money, which I think is worth getting.
