Dig, fight, explore, build! Nothing is impossible in this action-packed adventure game. The world is your canvas and the ground itself is your paint. Dig, fight, explore, build! Nothing is impossible in this action-packed adventure game. The world is your canvas and the ground itself is your paint.
Wow! And the new music was playing, too! The background also shows flying saucers! This update is going to be fantastic, I can't wait!!!
I think we still definitely should go for a dedicated server, but this is great for quick joins and stuff, so you don't HAVE to do that. Like if you just want to show me something in your world, it's much easier.
This is awesome. I can't believe how much has come out for this game since release. It's almost a different game!
Bee lovers, check out the new Bees Knees weapon showcased by ChippyGaming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU_jd3qb1aU
It's May already and June is right next door. I'm hoping soon we'll have an official released date for 1.3.
The bee stuff was one of my favorite parts of 1.2 so seeing that we will be getting more bee stuff is great.
Yeah and it looks like they're getting their own biome! =)
Where did you see that? There was already the beehive sub-biome in 1.2 but I haven't seen anything about a full biome.
Ok, I was slightly confused. In the Chippy Gaming video (at almost a minute into it), James says, "every world has about 3 to 4 bee biomes..." I saw the video and heard that and was thinking the bees were getting a much larger biome. I believe I was mistaken. So yes, they have their own sub-biomes and I'm sure that is what he meant.
I'm more interested in the fact that you can apparently click to teleport to people and there are new indicators for helpful info below the health bars. Again, this is going to feel like a sequel to the game we've been playing.
The person in the video crafted a Teleportation potion, which allows her/him to click the persons face on the map to teleport to. Which, yes, is really amazing. I hope it's not really hard to craft.
Ah, nifty. I know of this teleportation potion, but it's totally random, kinda like a get out of jail free card.
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Teleportation_Potion
I like the purple house at the beginning of the video. That new weapon looks cool. I saw a "wormhole potion" in the inventory. I've been at my grandparent's in Kentucky for one full day now and I oh so miss my PC. I wonder when this update will be released. Honestly, I feel like Terraria is like MineCraft, in that I look forward to new updates and good excuses to start playing again.
Terraria is quite a lot like Minecraft and they seem to update it about as much too.
I have actually started to wonder with all this great new Terraria content, what will come to Terraria 2?
Red has said in the past that there's a lot he wishes he had done differently with the development, but that's all behind-the-scenes. I would imagine something more portable, no .NET/XNA dependency.
I've heard 2.5D is a possibility. The same kind of charming graphics but with added depth.
Multiple planets? Spaceships? Quests? smile:
Seriously though, I don't know much more they could add, the game is pretty great already.
Yeah we've previously noted that the two games are similar. We can certainly dream and discuss our update desires for both games. Quests, planets, and outer space would be cool. While Starbound does this, I feel like Terraria and Minecraft could do if better.
They aren't just similar, Tiy, the main dev of Starbound, has said it's a spiritual successor.
But actually I do think Red mentioned the possibility of multiple planets. I kinda don't see the point of quests if the progression is as tight as Terraria 1.
Yeah, Travis. I'm looking forward to Starbound 1.0. As for quests, Terraria has the fishing ones, which I thought were cool.
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/1.3 "Spoilers!"
Portal gun? Wow, they are going to add everything.
I can't wait. I hope this comes soon.
I'd heard portal gun rumors. I'm glad they were true!
I'm so glad to be home and see that video on my own PC! I'm so very excited for the new update! I did some searching to find out when it'll be released, but the best answer I could find was "when it's finished." It seems it might not be out until early 2015, which isn't that far away.
I kind of expect that I'll find out about the 1.3 release here, but instead of waiting on one of you to post about it, I'd like to keep up with Terraria news. So, I want to hear from you. How do you find out when a new version is released? Is it on the main page under "News?" I've begun to check that section of the web site frequently as I'm really looking forward to this update.
The website is a good source but I follow Terraria on Twitter which is my primary source.
I figured one of you would say that. I'm not as over-active on Twitter as I used to be. I tweet very rarely now and almost never check the site. I only get on there when I think of something I want to tweet.
Oh! I just found you, Cheerful Ghost, and Tim via Travis's followers list. =)
I'm subscribed to /r/terraria (and mod there, actually) so I see things pretty quickly. One of the beta testing team is a mod there too.
Awesome! I've started playing Terraria on my Kindle Fire. I think I'm finally getting used to the controls.
More 1.3 spoilers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjm6IyXgWQk&feature=youtu.be&a
That is so awesome! I'll take a look later at Hero's other videos later. My guess is that he might have one that explains the first video of spoilers we saw here. Remember that video and you wondered if we could spot all the spoilers? That's what I like about this video that you just shared. He explains all or most of the spoilers contained in the GIF you previously shared.
I am really excited about 1.3 and I'm sure you, Travis, and Tim are, too. I can't wait until we get the new release! I keep checking the Terraria official site News section, hoping to see breaking news of 1.3.
As I mentioned, I've started playing the mobile version of Terraria on my Kindle Fire. I got a good bit of game play in yesterday and I noticed that I'm getting used to the touch screen controls. I've been building up my house, which is huge because that's the first thing I always start doing. I always start by making enough rooms for all of the NPCs. I end up making some more so I at least have a place for me and my chests. I'm not sure, but I think I've re-created my first world once or twice due to not spawning in a "nice" area. The final time, I spawned in a perfect spot which will prevent zombies from entering my house. If I can figure out how, it'd be cool to share a screen shot of that.
A final note. Although I'm getting used to the touch controls, I'm wishing I had controls that responded to voice commands. I think that would make things a bit simpler, especially when trying to switch between items. Oh, and I'm also wondering if Starbound will get a mobile or tablet version since Terraria and MineCraft have them. If so, it will probably be a long time from now.
> A final note. Although I'm getting used to the touch controls, I'm wishing I had controls that responded to voice commands.
I bet that would. It's hard for me to play it on a small phone, voice commands would be great. Something like "Build me a killer house" or "Gear me up for the wall of flesh" would be lifesavers
I'm glad you like that idea! Maybe I should send it to the developers. Hahahaha. "Defeat Duke Fishron" would be one I'd choose. That or "conquer Frost and Pumpkin Moon events." Really though, I imagine something like "sword" or "pickaxe" so that you could switch tools easier.
Here's what Cenx posted yesterday about the release date of 1.3, "the update will be done no sooner than 1 month from now and no longer than 1 year from now."
http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?members/cenx.5/#profile-post-37930
That's quite the timeline. So they are either still trying to convince the community to stop asking about timelines OR they really just don't know. Either way 1.3 should be great.
Last night, I did a YouTube search on 1.3 spoilers and it is going to be nothing short of amazing!! I can't even decide what I like best. I love that liquid physics are going to be much smoother now, natural-looking instead of blocky. Reading "no sooner than 1 month from now" is kind of disappointing, but I understand that they want to make sure they get in everything they want and make sure that it works like it should. It's amazing that once again I have this great anticipation for something to come out. While I hate the wait, I love it when a game comes out and proves that it was totally worth it. It's like being a child waiting for Christmas morning all over again! So, I'm very grateful that they've made a fantastic game and have found ways to make it even more fantastic. I can't wait for the update so I can dive right back into the PC version again. =)
I figured out how to take a screen shot with my Kindle Fire HDX, so here are some links for you to take a look. As I said, I've been playing the mobile version. The Kindle's version hasn't updated to the newest 1.2-ish version, but should hopefully soon.
Here is the big house I built, obviously capable of having 21 total NPCs move in: http://i.imgur.com/wn3cFBa.jpg
As I tried to explain, I spawned on a really cool spot that makes it hard for walking mobs to get in: http://i.imgur.com/rRix7iv.jpg
I'm afraid that once my Kindle gets the latest update I'll have to re-create my world and thus this giant house I made and I may also lose that great spot. I did notice some Harpies flying around when I was at the top of it.
That looks pretty good. Is it slower goings on the HDX than PC?
Thanks! Are you talking about game play or updates? The game plays just fine and I don't notice any lag. As for updates, yes. The most recent mobile update is pretty much the 1.2 PC update. Unfortunately, it seems that Amazon hasn't pushed that update yet. IOS and other Android devices got it, but there seems to be some issues, perhaps that's why Amazon hasn't released it yet.
I doubt it's just issues. The thing I hear most often about the kindle fire is how terrible the App Store is. Mu think you can fairly easily hack it to get the Google store.
Yeah, you can root it. I did that on my first Kindle, which got stolen. I haven't done it on this one because I don't want to. I did find out that I could install 1Mobile and get the apps from it, which I tried. The Terraria that I had downloaded that way didn't even load. So, I ended up just getting the game from Amazon's app store. So now there are two versions of Terraria I am waiting for.
Terraria 1.3 is going to be amazing!!! Thanks for sharing the new spoilers!!
That's really slick. Nothing major in the new spoilers but a lot of quality-of-life stuff that really helps.
I can't wait to see the new improvements first-hand. I wish we still had an idea about when it will be released. I'm thinking it won't be out until Spring at least. At least the version I have for my Kindle Fire HDX updated to 1.2 yesterday.
DUDE.
http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/the-terrarian-times-1-3-spoiler-recap-interview-with-cenx.9767/
Some incredible stuff here.
There's going to be a rideable unicorn that farts rainbows.
I need to give them more money.
I read that hours ago, Jon. I thought about sharing it here, but I obviously didn't do so. My only disappointment is that the interviewer didn't even ask CenX when we might see 1.3 released. I'm ready for 1.3, I've been ready. I want to have some fun again. I wish it would come out soon! I've been checking the Terraria and Starbound pages at least daily for news. LOL @ Travis.
There's sometimes an agreement that you don't ask about release dates. Since they said earlier that it's going to be ready when it's ready, between a month and a year from December, I doubt there was much new info.
This release will be huge and they are right not talk to much about because it would slip if they did. It seems they are just tossing in a ton of stuff, which should make it awesome if not hard to iron everything out.
New soundtrack spoiler!!!!!!
http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/sampling-the-sounds-of-1-3.13064/
Yep. I have some questions out about it with the soundtrack composer, hopefully he gets back soon.
Feel free to let us know what those questions are and if you get answers. I've been so thrilled with the 1.3 spoilers and I really can't wait for it to be released. I've been more excited about that than anything else. This soundtrack spoiler is superb, I love it!
Yeah, me too.
http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads%2F1-3-achievement-suggestions.13344%2F
Looks like Steam achievements are making it into 1.3. I hope there aren't any truly off-the-wall achievements.
Awesome!
Those will be a nice addition to a future play through. I like how Terraria has it's own time for adding certain features. Few games are developed this long and many don't add achievements at the long tail of development. That said, i'd rather have the zillion other features they added than achievements so it's good they added all the other stuff first
It seems the mobile version has achievements, so I imagine they can pull from those. I played a bit more of it yesterday. From time to time it tells me how many enemies I've killed. Adding achievements definitely gives the game replay value. There are still a few things I haven't done with the game such as finishing the moon events and beating Duke Fishron. I also haven't played during every calendar event.
With that said, I've been thinking about Terraria mods and I know nothing about them. I think, Travis, you mentioned one when we were playing on the server and I wonder if you could remind me of that. I think it might be cool to use one to run through the calendar events.
The first few times you beat Duke Fishron he gives you amazing swag that makes killing him much easier in repeated attempts.
The mod we were using on the server was tshock, and it's just a server mod to allow for better control over things and warp points and stuff like that. You can set it up on your own PC and connect to it, rather than going single player, to get the benefits. There are commands to trigger all the moon events. You can even keep resetting the time so the event never ends.
AND calendar events. You can trigger Halloween and Christmas time so that pumpkins grow or the frost legion can invade, and presents drop, etc.
Cool. Thanks for the reminder. I'm interested in the seasonal events (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Seasonal_event). I see there are a lot of them, but mostly mobile exclusives. I may some time see if that version can be modded as well so I can play those. Otherwise, I may just have to keep them in mind and play during those times. I've only played during the Christmas and maybe Halloween events, which makes sense since they're the only ones for PC. I've played through the Christmas one a couple of times on PC and once on mobile. I'm still interested in getting the game for the PS3 so I can check out those exclusives.
Yesterday I watched Redigit and "Blue" play the Alpha version of Terraria (http://youtu.be/Udp5ozoYfxM?list=PL4129CC1F5130E0C9). One of the good things was that Redigit said the correct pronunciation of the game "ter-rare-ia" instead of "ter-rawr-ria." They were quick videos, but it was cool to see and hear Redigit playing through the game. He and "Blue" got totally destroyed quite a few times. I like how "Blue" said that he loves the color blue (stating something I've said a few times) and that he's begged Redigit to add more blue stuff.
I do want to play the game again, but I don't want to get burned out with it before 1.3 comes along.
Oh! As for Duke Fishron, I searched YouTube and found one really good guide for beating him. The guy used a Snowman Cannon and pretty much didn't take any damage. I may have to give that a try.
Oh and I think it'd be cool if we could run a server again. I *might* try it out and see how it runs from here.
Feel free to share your thoughts on all of this (another long comment)!
Thanks again for the info, Travis. TShock was easy to set up. I might play with it more eventually. Part of it was made easier because I already had my router configured to do port forwarding for the Minecraft server I was hosting for my son and a friend of his. I was able to use that open port and I found my public IP address (again) easily enough. Perhaps some time in the near future I (or we) could do further testing. I'm not sure how much bandwidth would be necessary to host a server, but it could be possible in the near future (even at least for testing purposes).
You could just do it with your local ip, or 127.0.0.1. If only PCs within your house are going to use it, port forwarding and public ip addresses aren't necessary.
Also, te-rare-ia may be how Red pronounces it, but it's always going to be Ter-rawr-ia to me.
Yeah, I know, but at least I now know how to set it all up. It might be something we might think about some time after 1.3 is released. =)
I am going to try really hard to pronounce it Te-RARE-ia. Sounds odd to my ears, but I am going to try.
NEVER
Come on Travis. What about just once while no ones looking?
Release goal (not a guarantee): June
http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads%2Fre-logic-game-developers-conference-blog.12848%2F#post-389697
Man, I was hoping it'd be sooner. Still, at least we know what their goal is.
Must a ton of new stuff in 1.3.
Whoa.
Wow, that's great. I mean honest question and in no way to I want to imply I am not grateful but when will the updates stop? I mean, they gave the game so much more than 1.1, I mean except Minecraft I can't think of a game to get so many free updates.
Unless you count free-to-play MMOs and the like, I can't either. Criterion games did the closest I'd seen to this kind of free post-release support with Burnout Paradise.
Right, MMO's do keep the update flowing, forgotten those kinds of games.
Nice!
I've been itching to play this again. In a major way.
Wait for the new patch?
Yep, I'm trying to.
Love it. Now we just need some time estimates. Yes, I'm aware that I was just complaining about the Starbound time estimates yesterday.
AND this is where Terraria shines. They promise little and talk very rarely about timelines.
I am beyond excited for this, and I really hope everything works out. I have been able to play Terraria 1.2 using a wrapper, but it's kinda buggy/slow. And whenever there's an update, I have to open a trial version of a Windows emulator to login to Steam, update the game, and transfer the exe and content files in order to update the wrapper. It would be amazing to be able to play it natively.
I agree, the wrapper solution while getting the game to technically work, isn't awesome. Native ports are always the better solution, even if harder to do. I play quite a few games on my Mac and if I could Terraria from it? Awesome news.
I have a feeling this is also using a wrapper, just done by the official channels. Since the game was made in XNA, there's no native way to port it to Mac.
But yeah, I'd take a wrapper made by the devs behind the game over a wrapper someone posts on the forums any day. They work, and they work pretty well, but there are always problems.
Similar to Bastion-- It was done in XNA as well, and Ryan Gordon did that Linux port I believe, when it was in the humble bundle. It used a wrapper and it worked so amazingly.
"I have a feeling this is also using a wrapper, just done by the official channels. Since the game was made in XNA, there's no native way to port it to Mac."
This isn't technically true actually. That said, I have no idea what they are doing to port it BUT lots of games were written in XNA and later ported by... well I forget his name but he is the primary developer of the SDL bindings for C#. He ported Escape Goat 2 native as well as a bunch of others.
Well, hmm... I suppose wrapper may be the wrong word here. The only way of porting besides wineskin that I've heard of for Linux (maybe Mac) there's something called monogame that has to be used. It's not a wrapper in the same way wineskin is, but basically you run it through an interpretation layer, for lack of the proper term that eludes me, so you're compiling it through a "wrapper" that interprets the non-native code.
Now that I've written all that out (and I'll leave it there because it explains my thought process) this all just sounds like a third-party .net framework, full stop. :)
If there's another way of doing it I'd love to hear about it though, because that would be exciting!
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/192209/from_xna_to_monogame.php
That's what I was talking about. I just hadn't thought it through yet :)
OK, I just checked-- Escape Goat 2 was ported using monogame so we're talking about the same thing :)
Awesome. Yeah, there are XNA -> Native translation layers for different platforms. I hope that's what they are using as it would make a possible Linux port way less strange than a Wine translation.
monogame is almost definitely what they're using, which allows for Windows, Mac, Linux, a ton of consoles, iOS and Android, pretty much everything.
Also!
http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/an-update-on-things.154239/page-2#post-3100377
So yes, it looks like if the Mac port goes well, Linux is the next stop.
Hot damn that's some of the best news in gaming this year. Totally incredible.
My list of reasons to use Windows just got a hell of a lot smaller. :godmode:
Yeah, the skeleton was pretty cool. The animation was really good. It looks like all the Minecraft parodies my son has watched. I've watch some of them, too, they're really cool.
Interesting.
Needless to say I __LOVE__ Terraria but I have mixed feelings about this. That said, it's good to see people doing interesting work with the universe.
Speaking of Terraria, I must not have played it on my new PC until after I purchased Fallout 3. As I was waiting for Fallout 3 to download, I thought I'd play Terraria. Although, I found difficulty in getting my download of Fallout 3 to continue as I played Terraria. I found a bit of a work around for that issue, yet it didn't quite work out. Anyway, I loaded up Terraria, created a new character, and a new world. Instantly I noticed how slow my character was moving in the game. I did a search with Google to find out how to resolve that issue. One of the links I found said that really low-end and high-end PCs have issues with Terraria, the game moves in slow-motion. It was suggested to turn Frame Skip on, but I think it already was on when I tried it. I believe turning Frame Skip off seemed to work better for me. Still, I didn't play for very long since I couldn't get Fallout 3 to continue downloading while playing Terraria, so I ended up spending some time with my Wii U instead. I also recently realized that Terraria was not "optimized" with GeForce Experience. I changed that, but haven't tried it out yet.
Steam will automatically stop any downloads you have going when you start a game, but you can alt-tab out of games and restart the download.
Yeah, that's the "fix" I mentioned, but I couldn't do it since the resume button didn't appear.
This game is growing faster than I'm comfortable with. Not really, but kinda.
I'm seriously wondering at what point it will reach "too big." I'm kind of obsessive about games like this and I want to collect EVERYTHING and do EVERYTHING.
Terraria is going to be the death of me.
Perhaps a good problem to have? That said, Terraria is still VERY finite and our games have pretty obvious ends.
That said, they are giving it WAY more of a life than i'd have thought and I really respect that. Doesn't seem like we have that much further to go for the "final update."
Yeah I love it. I really do. BUT I WILL NEVER BE DONE. :)
Seriously, I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
Me too. I was thinking holidays for server part 4. Or is it 3?
4. We've done three. I guess lunar update is the obvious point for server 4.
And if by "holidays" you're talking about December, I'm not sure I can wait that long. If you were talking about Memorial Day or Independence Day as "holidays" though...
I'd be open to an earlier server.
I played around with this a bit last night. The smart cursor is awesome, but I can imagine I wouldn't want to use it all the time. With my already decked out character I was able to mine all the way to hell in a new large world in about a minute.
The new stuff seems interesting, I'll have to check it out sometime. When I saw the minecart video, I thought that it would be really cool if some how worlds could generate some minecart trails. I think that would be cool.
Is Lunar another game they are making?
The Lunar update, according to what I have read, seems to be one of the last large content updates to Terraria? They plan on adding the Moon and the final boss there.
I kind of thought the last boss would be Cthulhu himself, but it seems like it won't be.
Interesting, thanks for filling me in.
I havn't played for probably a year - this game looks insane now
@Sungorth: The game really has gotten pretty huge, I played it at 1.1 and then 1.2 and haven't yet played this update. Can't wait to start up a new game.
Jon, do you mean, "start up a new game," as in a new character in a new world? That would be dedication, going though it all over again. I've thought about doing that, maybe I will again eventually.
We've done it at least three times. Every time we do a new server we start up new characters. I have one other that I started fresh. It's fun!
Wow! I've only created one character.
Yeah, going through the game fresh is really fun. Otherwise there isn't much to do save the new content.
It's also kinda nice to start a new character because not all the new content is meant for end game. So I tend to discover things a little more naturally as I progress through the game. Plus I seem to progress quicker with each successive play through so starting over isn't really that big of a deal. :)
That said, if we start up another server I have no real preference for new characters or continuing on with existing ones. I think we'd have fun either way.
Good points!
With starting up a new one I'd definitely want new characters. There have been so many minor additions since our last one that we would still miss out on a ton.
At least they didn't nerf our favorite weapons again. Too bad they didn't un-nerf them. Hahaha Anyway, the wiki doesn't seem to have the Angler listed under NPCs yet.
Which wiki are you using? If you're using the wikia wiki, you're doing it wrong. The gamepedia one is the "official" one, and is much better.
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Angler
That said, both wikis have the Angler in this case.
http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Angler
And they both have them in the categories:
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Template:Town_NPCs
http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/NPC
It looks like all those page changes were made on the 9th, so if you checked before Friday they may not have been there.
I'm probably giving you way more info than you care about.
I was looking at the official one. Thanks for the links. If you notice the Angler doesn't seem to be on the front page.
Looks like it was added earlier this morning
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Terraria_Wiki&oldid=253906
I just realized that I barely ever looked at the front page, if ever, I just search for the thing/category I'm after. There's a lot missing from it, but it's a nice primer.
There we go!
Yeah, I just search for what I am looking for. Except for when I started and really didn't know what I could do with the game. That said, I love the wiki and hope it's always maintained.
Oh it will be. So many obsessed fans! What would we do without them?
Miss more than half the game.
Good intentions aside, I guess the road to Hell is also paved with long-ass cart rails.
OK, this is awesome. After playing around with mine carts in Starbound I wished for this.
Wow, what a long ride! That was really cool, I wonder how all that was done. Is this update available? I wonder what other changes were made for this update. Ok, now I guess I'm gonna have to go investigate.
Ok, I didn't find what I was looking for, but found "Upcoming features" on the wiki: http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Upcoming_features
Yeah 1.2.4 is an upcoming Terraria update. Should be out soon.
Where'd you get the info? I was looking for more details. I liked the mention of Terraria 2 on the site I included above.
Oh, I am following the lead developer of Terraria on Twitter and he mentioned it in the Tweet. I should have included it in the post above, sorry.
https://twitter.com/Demilogic/status/457980435323047936
It's also the title of the YouTube video.
Thanks, I'm following him now, too!
Awesome!
Yeah, though I've been neglecting Twitter for a while...
Update coming next week: https://mobile.twitter.com/Demilogic/status/462976455454908416
AND my prayers are answered. More
https://twitter.com/Demilogic/status/463437188982517760
Oh man, I loved the bees.
I know. I think that's a bee mount in that picture. Can't wait to see how that works.
It looks like the Queen Bee is getting attacked by bees and the player is dressed like a bee. Hahahahaha, perfect for you bee lovers (though I'm not a hater, in real life I respect bees).
I didn't notice the Bee Armor or Costume the player had but if my eyes are right, they are in fact riding a bee too. I hope the bee gun gets upgraded as well and some late game bee armor. And then I hope everything else is replaced with bee sprites and text.
I think really want I want is Terraria to be a bee simulator game.
Coming soon from Maxis and Relogic: SimBee
How dare you steal my news! Ha! Hahahaha, I'm just kidding. I thought about posting it, but obviously didn't. It's so small and yet the news is huge. I've been waiting for this since November and I am tired of waiting. I'm glad they finally gave us a date, even if it is still a month away.
I'm definitely looking forward to all of the changes that we're aware of, those things alone are going to be awesome, but I bet there may still be some things we may not be aware of yet. At least, at the moment, I don't think we know what achievements have been created.
Anyway, Travis, I like how in the latest Roundtable you said you buy the game when it's on sale so that you can give it to others. That's really cool. You gave me the PC copy that I have, but I've since bought the console and mobile versions as well (one of each).
I didn't buy the console version, but played the demo. Honestly if I'm home and want to play Terraria, there's no reason not to play it on my computer. Mobile I did buy, but it's kinda clunky. For the kind of controls they need for that game it's good, but it just isn't as satisfying as playing it on PC. So I guess I'm a purist :)
I didn't think it the mobile version controls were bad, I think I just got used to them. Vinny managed to beat the Wall of Flesh and I think some hardmode bosses as well on it. I like how you can zoom in and use your finger, also having the grid radius is kind of helpful, too. It seems you can only play via wireless network with friends that are nearby. My complaint with the mobile version is that the world is way too small and you can't change it. I did fight Lepus, which was difficult because it kept spawning more copies.
The PS3 controls take some getting used to, too. It also seems to have some exclusive content. You can also play two-player split-screen.
I hope this means they release the Linux and Mac ports of the game too, that would be very cool.
From what I've read, those are coming about a month later.
Makes sense. Get out the big update, bug fix then the ports later.
Ok, Travis, I have a big request for the next Terraria server. I want the Cheerful Ghost house to be bigger, much bigger than it has been. I always build a huge place, enough to house all NPCs that can move in. I also always add more space to even the place out and for storing things like chests, statues, and banners. I also have at least one room for my crafting area. I do this on my single player worlds and it's something I'd like to see on the next server world.
The reason i say this is because I remember the last (and first-for-me) time we played on a server, there was a small CG house with a few chests in it. I kept storing items there so that anyone could take freely. The problem with that was that the space was very limited, I needed more chests! Perhaps I should have stored more items in my own place, but I liked having those community chests and being able to use them with others.
Well, I think about 98% of the items in those chests were from you. :) In the past that's been more than enough to store our shared storage. Not to be critical, but I just stopped using those chests altogether since it was full of your stuff. Our use of them in the past was for things that we already had one of, or overflow boss items, things like that. It makes them way more useful that way if it isn't just nearly everything you find. That's one man's opinion though.
I think making the default CG bigger makes sense. Maybe we could make it small initially and them build up adding chests as we need?
That's what I typically do with my house, I just go up for more space.
When should we create an event for this? Is it going to be our GotMC for July? Still, an event could be created and edited at any time.
Also, should we try out the new multiplayer features using Steam or get a hosted server? Perhaps we could try the new features and then get a server if that doesn't work out as well for us.
We need some more people in this conversation.
Too early to plan since we don't know how the steam stuff will work or when TShock will update. Don't worry, it will happen.
That's quite true, Travis, I hadn't really thought about when TShock would update. I wonder how long that will take.
Yeah, it will happen. Not sure about ON launch day, but we should get it going not too soon after that.
That said, the next version will handle Steam multiplayer with friends. Maybe a bit closer to the drop we could set an event and run a new Steam multiplayer map and then turn that into the server. I don't need TShock on day one or... ever, I don't mind doing it the old fashioned way
9 days, isn't it amazing? It feels like we've waited oh so terribly long for this update. I seriously doubt any of us will be at all disappointed. But, yes, I'm still counting down the days, anyone else doing the same?
The only things I can really think of that I'd like to see in Terraria seem to me like things that could perhaps be possible, but I doubt they'll happen. I'd like to see a big world containing both the Crimson and Corruption. It'd be cool if they even created a new extra large world size for this. It would also be very cool if they could get the world to wrap, like it does in Starbound.
The thing about the latest update (pre-1.3) is that I've only played it once. It was that time with our last server. So, fishing and Duke Fishron remind me of that time. I miss it! I miss fishing in the game and joining some of you guys in the game. It was very fun and I can't wait until we get started again with the new update.
So, is there anything (like I mentioned) that you'd like to see? What are you most looking forward to with 1.3? As for me, I'm just looking forward to pretty much all of the new stuff. I can't quite wrap my head around the Portal gun. I'm not sure how it will work and how effective it will be, but I'm guessing I'll be surprised.
World wrapping wouldn't work with how they have the biomes set up-- ocean is always at the world ends, for example. I would like to see some way of doing the corruption and crimson bosses, whether or not both biomes are present. Eater of Worlds is one of my favorite bosses.
Speaking of which, you guys cool with re-rolling until we get corruption? Since we did crimson last time.
It seems as though they could connect the oceans. I'm not sure how it is technically on their side, if that is a possibility. I wonder if they've thought of it or tried it.
What you suggest with the bosses sounds like a good idea. I'm not really sure how that would happen though. To summon many of the bosses, you need materials from that bosses's biome. If the biome isn't there, then you don't really have much to craft something. Although, it would be cool if perhaps they introduced something that was biome-neutral that could be used.
I was kind of disappointed that we got Crimson on the first server I played because the grand majority of my PC experience with Terraria has been pretty much exclusively Crimson. There may have been a couple of times I created a world that had the Corruption instead, but I barely played those worlds. However, that experience is the opposite with the mobile version of the game. With that version, I've only gotten Corruption worlds.
It kind of sucks that you can only get one of the two in one world, but it also gives you a reason to create another world to explore. It'd be cool, too, if some how the Portal Gun could transfer you to another world so you could go back and forth between Corruption and Crimson.
Anyway, I'm cool with "re-rolling until we get corruption." There are only a few disadvantages to that, though. First, there's the lesser chance of getting Vampire Knives, which we could steal from another world. Granted, there's a chance that chest will be there even on a Corruption world. Also, can we still make a Golden Shower in Corruption? I think one of the main ingredients (ichor) comes from a Crimson monster. The other drawback is the pickaxe. I think I read recently that the Crimson's pickaxe is better than the Corruption's, though I wouldn't consider that a significant setback.
"Speaking of which, you guys cool with re-rolling until we get corruption? Since we did crimson last time."
Sure. But I prefer Crimson, it's easier to farm vertibre than the Corruption stuff and I like the armor and weapon set visually.
As to wanting it to drop today, I am with you Greg!
We could put it up to a vote when we create the event and have some other players. Jon, are you actually going to play with us this time? Last time you just popped in briefly, you were missed. I'm sure Tim will join us again, but I'm wondering if we can grab some more people. Scrypt seems like a Terraria-virgin, so I wonder if we could some how get him hooked. Hehehe. Anyway, I think it'll be cool, I can't wait!
Greg: it's my intention to but with Starship Rubicon releasing on Steam soon and other life stuff, I might not play as much as I'd like.
