New Terraria PC Updates Leaked

Updates are coming for Terraria on the PC and to spoil some of them, Redigit, the developer working on them posted some screenshots to the official Terraria forums. After sending these screenshots to the official Cheerful Ghost labs for deep analysis we have figured out a few things.

The new update contains turtles. From the looks of it, a possible pet and enemy turtle. Pet being the turtle in the house and hostile turtles in the over world.

Waterfalls are coming to Terraria.

New Wizard armor and a flying sword looks to be added.

There is a pot with slightly different art.

Terraria on the Playstation 3

I have been pretty excited to try out Terraria on the PS3 and today I took it for a spin. Its a fairly small download and it was running in a few minutes. The demo has Tutorial mode available and as such, played that.

The tutorial is fairly interesting as it runs you thorough a few game basics from mining to crafting a few pieces of starter gear. I never realized how much stuff Terraria packs in to the PC version. The console version has to make sense of all that and as such, its a very dense system of menus to navigate through and is a bit overwhelming at first. Terraria to Drop on Consoles in March

Terraria will drop on consoles in North America on March 26 and March 27 on the PS3 and XBox 360 respectively. Hoping for a demo to try out how the controls work on the console for this one. Ultra interested to see if this content comes to the PC in some way. And yes, I would buy an expansion for Terraria.

Definitely make use of the wiki. Last night was fun, I'm impressed with how much everyone has built already.

Side note/suggestion: When on the server, make sure you select the blue team (open your inventory, click the blue icon on the right above your equipment). That tells you the distance and direction of all your fellow team mates. It makes it easier for us to find each other and explore together. :D

Aww, I'm using a port of terraria on Mac that someone made but the guy only updated it to 1.1.1 (1.1.2 is the current version on windows). So when I try to join it says I'm not using the same version as the server. I really wish I could play with you guys. This sucks. :'(

Yeah you can run Wine through Steam and pull it off for plenty of games. I guess since someone took the time to make a Linux wrapper for it, that doesn't work all too well though. You just need to get the windows binaries though, so you CAN get those through Wine at least.

Bastion uses XNA, too. I wonder how they managed a working Linux port. I'll redownload it from the Humble Bundle and check it out.

If they've used Wine (like they did for Psychonauts), I imagine that's a tougher road for Steam to follow for implementation on Linux (or the forthcoming Steambox).

Speaking of Monogame, that's what the wrapper for Linux uses as well. It seems to work *ok* but there are some flaws. Still, if that's the only way you're going to play it, you should.

I think any port requires a bit of fit and finish to make excellent. Plus it may have used a version of Monogame that is quite old or whatnot.

bean, you could fire up Steam-in-Wine, download Terraria, then copy those files out to wherever they need to be for the wrapper to access them. Or while I can't say this is the best bet, you could sail the seas under the black flag, me matey.

I may just boot back into Windows, install Terraria, and then grab the files after booting back into Linux. For some reason, though, I think the executables will still look for Steam to authenticate. It's at least worth a shot.

Whatever attempts to search out Steam will be overridden by the wrapper. The only way to get Terraria is through Steam, even if you get the disc version it installs through Steam like Skyrim did.

I'm open to hardmode anytime, and can help kill/farm the wall of flesh (I have like 8 voo doo dolls) as long as it's after 8pm pacific. :)

I'm also willing to help out any less equipped members of the server get caught up gear wise. I can help farm EoC/EoW or provide an escort to the underworld for hellstone. I know there are several hearts unclaimed around the world (especially in the the dungeon and the underworld) for anyone who hasn't hit 400 HP yet.

Yes, that was me. Encased us in safe brick and put a trench around everything to keep the corruption out. I basically created a new world to farm it for bricks so it wouldn't ugly up our dungeon. The clowns' bombs won't blow everything up now. The stuff above the ground is still susceptible, but it won't screw us up as much as it could have.

Today I made a LONG platform in the underworld to fight the Wall. In the process I found enough dolls to fill a chest, so we can farm the hell out of him.

How about tomorrow night we get started at 7 or 7:30 PM Pacific, 10 or 10:30 PM Eastern, so we can both do the same event? Hardmode is a beast without some of the stuff you get from the Wall, and it's much better to do the wall with help.

The greenhouse/mushroom farm I made under my house was intended for everyone's use. Feel free to make up a couple batches of potions to use during the fight. Supplies are in the chests. Since I'll be jumping on late if you could make a couple extra for me that would be greatly appreciated so I can jump straight into the fight when I log in. I have plenty of healing potions, so don't worry about those.

Ok so WBS and I broke up a bunch demon altars and didn't have too hard of a time finding cobalt and a bit of the next hard mode mineral.

Sorry for the delay in responding, @travis. Didn't get a chance to try the Linux wrapper. Was embroiled in an address change and my Windows partition became history before that.

I may have to go the 'Seven Seas' route to find the executable now. OTOH, it is POSSIBLE that Terraria might get to Steam. Bastion (also written for XNA) works without issue with full controller support.

Community Terraria Server 2.1 Drops February 4th

I am going to run another Cheerful Ghost Terraria game server for us to all play starting next week on the 4th of February 6PM PST. We had such a fun time playing last time and I opened the game up recently and realized it would be run to play with people again.

Like last time I will keep the server up for three weeks and afterward hand out the world file so we can all have it for historical reasons. It will run 24/7 and be locked down for awesome Cheerful Ghost people like you and your friends. We only have a few simple rules, don't mess with other peoples stuff, no stealing, no greifing and have fun.

You can always landscape out and expand the forest, so even if tree-chopping is necessary it won't be a bad thing. I wish I had done that in our last world.

I don't think we need to worry about running out of space. We are on a large map. As long as people space themselves out a bit we should be good. :)

Plus, if anyone decides to do a large build they can always go underground or build it away from the spawn point.

Also, in terms of this coming to PC:

* Redigit ended up being the last developer on PC Terraria, and personal stuff got in the way of his development so he stopped development of new content.

* 505 Games approached him about making a console version, and they came to a deal, so nobody from the PC version is working on the console version.

* Redigit has recently tweeted about possibly getting back to work on the PC version, but depending on the deal he has with 505 Games, he may not legally be allowed to bring all these features to the PC version, as it isn't his content to port.

So it's possible that PC will get this, but equally (or perhaps more) likely that it won't. It's possible that we'll get so much awesome stuff it'll make the console ports look weak and useless. We won't know until we know.

Oh well, hopefully learn more. The new stuff looks great and the controls look pretty good, but its hard to say before I try it.

I played the PS3 demo before Travis gifted me a copy for the PC. The demo's music got a bit old after a while and didn't appeal to me as much as the PC version's music does. I'm slightly tempted to play the PS3 or mobile versions now that I've played through the PC version, but I'm not quite sure that I will. I think I agree with Travis regarding the controls for the console version and think that it seems to be a game better played with a mouse and keyboard on the PC. I'm interested in seeing what others think about the console and mobile versions of the game.

OK here's my epic Terraria base. I spent weeks off and on with this thing. If you noticed I wasn't around on the CG server for days at a time, this is why.

I created/destroyed so many new worlds just to get the materials for this, so I could get different colored dungeon blocks mostly.

One thing I didn't show off there at the end, I decided not to bore anyone further, is that I have a long line of bricks in Hell, ending with a lava pit like the one WhiteBoySlim made, and a house above so you can set your spawn point.

I also have houses at the entrance to the dungeon, corruption, and underground jungle.

Terraria has infinite reroll potential. You never get the same world twice.

That is awesome! I had a lot of fun playing Terraria with everyone, and while I am looking forward to a break I definitely want to do this again. Maybe around that Christmas time so we can get Santa and that snowman army special event. :)

I think Minecraft with the CheerfulGhost community would be fun. I actually host a minecraft server for me and a couple friends. Not many people play on it anymore, but we had a lot of fun messing around on there for awhile.

Second Terraria World Comes To a Close

I turned off the Terraria server tonight. It was awesome to see what people did with the game. I was honestly surprised people built as much, mined as much and killed as many bosses as we did. The screenshot is of the final state of the game at night and as you can see, the village is fairly dense.

We mined down to the underworld, killed Skeletron, The Eye of Cthulhu, Eater of the World, survived countless Blood Moons, Goblin Invasions put the world in hard more and then defeated the hard more bosses.

Some of my favorite moments were on the first night spelunking underground with @chowda, exploring the underground Jungles with @panickedthumb and killing the wall of flesh... Read All

The underground jungle was damn fun. Annoying at times, but tons of fun.

This server is honestly one of my favorite experiences in gaming. You guys are all awesome to play with. Terraria is so deceptively deep, and it was great discovering it all with you guys, building tons of awesome stuff, and taking out bosses.

Any privacy concerns with 4shared? I've never used it but need to create an account if I want to download that file. Just want to make sure they aren't going to steal my identity or burn my house down or anything nefarious.

Well, I did, but the FBI shut it down :) Haven't looked into it much since then. Megaupload was awesome.

I guess there's always Google or Dropbox.

But I don't mind creating an account, as long as it's safe, or there's always bugmenot.com :)

I have incorporated some key elements of our world into my own and finished my base. Video is uploading, but it's going to take some time.

And now, just in time for the Diablo 3 patch, I think I'm done with Terraria for a while.

Wow and oops! I was exploring the first world, it's pretty cool. I fought some Corruption enemies that I hadn't before (I haven't really explored the Corruption in my 2nd world yet). Then, I went to the Underworld to do some exploring and what do you know...I killed a Voodoo Demon and it dropped it's doll in the lava. Even with the Spectre Armor and a total of 51 defense, it was an easy fight for me and my Terra Blade. It's pretty cool exploring the worlds created by you guys. I did throw each world into my Terraria backup folder, so no matter what I do, I can always revert. Thanks for giving me three new worlds to explore! I also am the last person to visit the first world (obviously), about 2 years after you guys. Hahaha.
