"Hearthstone’s highly anticipated single player Adventure Mode has been officially announced today at PAX East! Curse of Naxxramas: A Hearthstone Adventure!"

What, a single player campaign for Hearthstone? Wow, that sounds great... tell me more!

"The ancient necropolis Naxxramas, a base of operations for the powerful archlich Kel’Thuzad and his plague-bearing undead host, comes to Hearthstone in a single-player Adventure that anyone can undertake. Progress through each of the five unique wings of the dungeon and gain new cards for your Hearthstone collection by defeating the iconic bosses you’ll face along the way: the oversized arachnid Maexxna, the fungal... Blizzard has a *lock* on Grinder games. To whit: Diablo and WoW. Diablo is a complex loot-aggregation simulator, and you know you've gathered enough loot when you can survive the next level of the dungeon, and you know you've won when there are no more levels to go. Of WoW, it's said that the game doesn't even *begin* until you've maxed out your level, and the whole way up is one epic grind.

Enter Hearthstone. The game itself is not super interesting - it's simpler than Pokemon, and not in an awesome way. There is some strategy involved, but I've not found any of the matches to reward too much thinking. This is another grinding game from Blizzard, which by... Read All

"The wait is over: The Hearthstone Open Beta Test is now live in North America! If you haven’t joined in on all of the crazy card-slinging action yet, now is your chance! Pull up a chair and prepare to start casting powerful spells, summoning mighty minions, and dueling your friends in a fast-paced strategy card game for everyone."

Hearthstone is one of the best unsung new games of 2013. Blizzard took the collectable card format popularized by games like Magic: The Gathering and tossed in some love to make a very accessible, fun and rich game. Oh righ and did I mention that the game costs you nothing?

Hearthstone is one of those great pickup and play games... Read All

Blizzard's TCG, Hearthstone, has been in closed beta for a few months now, but good news for everyone who has been missing out: It's going to be in open beta starting some time next month. Rob Pardo did warn that this means it could be January in "Blizzard speak."

In addition, Hearthstone for iOS and Android has been confirmed. I think the game would be a great fit for mobile, and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

A few days ago Blizzard blessed me with access to the Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft beta. Since I have been pretty busy with Terraria 1.2, Monaco and PixelJunk Monsters I haven't given much attention to the Hearthstone beta. That said, I installed it and over the last few days have played most of the practice matches once and tried my hand at two online matches with real live humans.

You start out Hearthstone by playing 5 guided matches. Over these matches they let you know the games rules and slowly acclimate you to how to play. The 5 matches are not optional and they are not skippable. I thought it was pretty nice and they really do usher in the more... Read All

Blizzard has started rolling out beta invites for Hearthstone to press and people who opted into the beta. Hearthstone is Blizzard's new trading card game based on the Warcraft universe.

You can buy cards in the beta, though you won't be able to keep them when the game goes live. However, you will be given a credit equal to the amount you paid for the cards.

Every time I watch a new Hearthstone video I get more excited about playing it. I will dump all my thoughts to the video as I watch it so prepare yourself...

  • Right away the player is dealt a pretty poor hand and is allowed to redraw cards with no penalty. This is noteworthy because games like Magic: The Gathering penalize you for a Mulligan. Or so the official rules say, when I play with my friends we don't observe that rule. :D

  • The player gets a "Leroy Jenkins" card. Hat tip to the designers, this kind of thing is awesome to see.

  • One nice UI bit of polish I like, when the opponent card is played you can see it with all of its abilities.

  • There are a ton of sick... Read All

After watching this Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft narrated battle play out I am much more interested in this games release. Since it will be free to play, the barrier to entry is pretty low and I am curious to see how this will play on the PC and iPad.

I really likens the back and forth between the players and its different enough from Magic The Gathering to be compelling. I wasn't sure based on that video when its ok to target minions VS players though. Hopefully the game comes with a fairly length tutorial.

Will you check out Heroes of Warcraft when it launches?

Blizzard just announced its next new game at PAX East called "Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft." Hearthstone looks pretty interesting and according to the FAQ:

"Hearthstone is a free-to-play digital strategy card game that anyone can enjoy. Players choose to play as one of nine epic Warcraft heroes, and then take turns playing cards from their customizable decks to cast potent spells, use heroic weapons or abilities, or summon powerful characters to crush their opponent."

Since I really enjoy Magic: The Gathering I am interested in Hearthstone. Essentially its a free to play CCG that you can play online in a few minutes. Sound like it could be fun.

I know a few... Read All
