So my quick take -- the screens are MUCH, MUCH bigger than before (they claim 90% bigger and it definitely looks it). I can't really tell about the weight as it had a gigantic metal harness strapped to it (lovely anti-theft mechanism). It seemed thinner than the old one, but that could just be an illusion as it's so much bigger. Now I wonder if they ever changed their "buy the games for every device" policy or if the kids will have to rebuy all the little games they bought on the Nintendo store.

So I was at Target today and noticed that the Nintendo 3DS XL was out. I must say that it's huge and beautiful... I had to drag my daughters away from it, so I have a feeling it's going to the top of birthday and Christmas lists.

Path of Exile is having another stress test weekend... If you're tired of Diablo 3 you might want to give this a try. Here's the info they sent me:
----
Dark and deep action RPG Path of Exile will be open to everyone this weekend, September 14-16, so that we can stress-test our servers in preparation for entering Open Beta in a few months.
If you’ve been patiently waiting to try Path of Exile’s dark and customizable gameplay, now is your chance to check out the game - for one weekend only.
The game has been in Closed Beta since last August and we have been regularly adding new content, classes and skills. The latest patch adds new skills, more keystone passives, additional quest content, substantially improved minion functionality and introduces a new look for item hovers in-game.
The Open Weekend will include the first two acts of the game, our special end-game maps, Default and Hardcore leagues, six character classes, approximately 70 active skills, 40 support gems and hundreds of item types. We’ve added a host of unique items designed by Brother Laz, author of the popular Diablo 2 mod Median XL, and our ‘Diamond Supporter’ fans.
We will make the game servers public from 5pm on Friday 14 September Pacific Daylight Time until 11:59pm on Sunday. Over 55,000 people played during our last Open Weekend in July. Any feedback you provide this weekend will help us get ready for our permanent Open Beta.
Check out the FAQ about the Open Weekend at www.pathofexile.com/publicweekend/.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them on the forums. See you this weekend!

Has anyone ever tried OCTGN3? It seems to be a great graphical card game emulator. That is you can play a lot of different cards games with it online (e.g. Magic: The Gathering and a bunch more
It looks great and seems to be an awesome way to build decks and test them out (or mess about with that latest rare before buying a case to get it :)

This Weekend is a open beta stress test weekend for Path of Exile... So maybe you can curb your Diablo 3 anticipation...
Here's what they said:

Want some dark RPG action this weekend, with all-new features and tons of flexibility?
We're opening up the Path of Exile Beta to everyone this weekend, May 11-13, so that we can stress-test our servers in preparation for entering Open Beta.
The last public weekend in March was a huge success and attracted a total of 47,000 players. We're keen to try to push that limit! There's a list of frequently asked questions about the public weekend here: http://www.pathofexile.com/publicweekend/
This week, we announced the Shadow, our Dexterity/Intelligence character class, which is available from the public weekend onwards. He prefers to use fast-hitting weapons such as daggers or claws to dart in and out of battle, while laying Traps or Remote Mines and controlling the flow of combat with deadly spells. You can read more about the Shadow here: http://www.pathofexile.com/classes/shadow/
Today we deployed the 0.9.9 Beta patch, which has been described as the most important patch that the game has ever had. In addition to adding ten new skills, four new support gems, a new quest, monster type and many bug fixes, it introduced a completely revamped monster AI and behaviour system. We're pleased to say that these changes have made Path of Exile more fun and challenging than it has ever been before.
If you enjoy the public weekend (or want to play earlier than that), we encourage you to support us by purchasing some microtransaction credit. All purchases grant Closed Beta access as our way of thanking you for your support. You're able to do this here: https://www.pathofexile.com/purchase/
I hope to see you this weekend!

The latest Indie Royale dropped today and has some interesting titles.
http://www.indieroyale.com/
It has:
* Dungeon Defenders (I've been meaning to try)
* Containment: The Zombie Puzzler (looks like an interesting puzzle game)
* Data Jammers: Fast Forward (very stylized racer)
* Brainpipe - A Plunge to Unhumanity (ambient, visual treat action game)
* Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space (hybrid science fiction space adventure and strategy game)

If they didn't come out with a new one each year, I think I'd be more likely to purchase a new DS. I can't stand the hardware cycle!
I haven't bought a new DS since the original slim DS. If that was even what it was called. I'm just not as big into handheld games as I used to be.
I do prefer awesome experiences to games. I want to buy a hand held system and its the Vita or now the 3DS XL. I've tried the Vita and was somewhat uninterested, ill give this a go now when I am in a store next.
Like Tungsten I am a bit unhappy they iterate so much over the same hardware and lose some features I thought were awesome. Like if I want a DS that plays advance games(I do) ill need an old one. I guess all console makers play the obsolescence game pretty quickly now too, Sony being another.
