The place for conversation that doesn't make sense to talk about in any specific game in our list. Think of General Discussion as a "catch all" for conversations about gaming, game culture or anything else worth sharing.

Nintendo launched Miitomo last Thursday in the United States and i’ve been using it pretty religiously since then. It’s a strangely addicting social network that focuses on your friends and you answering questions and the conversations that erupt from that. It just might be my friend group, but there have been some really hilarious discussions created with it. Sometimes the discussions get a bit too meta or poop-focused for my taste but I really think Nintendo did a good job with Miitomo. Nintendo has built a very solid base to branch out from and I can’t wait to see how Miitomo changes over time.

What’s The Point of Miitomo?

Nintendo is great at making hardware and... Read All

Greetings Ghosts,

I've been spending the last few weeks working on bug fixes and interesting new core features to Cheerful Ghost and I wanted to wrap up a patchlist for you all. This doesn't quite cover everything and some stuff my be so esoteric as to not be interesting but hopefully going forward I can keep posting changes in this form to keep you all updated as to what's been happening on the tech side of this site.

Patchset 3.11

After a successful launch in Japan, Miitomo will be headed stateside this Thursday March 31st. Miitomo is a smartphone app that allows you to build your Nintendo/Mii profile and connect with your friends. The power of the app is in your ability to customize your online persona and Nintendo lets you do a bit of it for free and a lot more if you pay. I hope this is part of a big Nintendo push to harmonize all our devices together, but for now it's just a new way to create Mii's.

I'll be grabbing the app on Thursday and if there is a way we can friend each other let's discuss digits in the comments.

A Vietnamese developer named Trần Vũ Trúc has created an emulator that turns your old NES games into 3D games. It's made with Unity and is currently only functional on Firefox.

The emulator basically takes the sprites and attempts to figure out what they'd look like in 3D. This works with some games more than others. Contra and Dr. Mario look great, but Super Mario Bros 3 and Mega Man are a bit rough. But the possibilities here are exciting!

If you have Firefox handy, play around with it here: http://tructv.bitbucket.org/3dnes/

There have been a plethora of rumors and leaks about Nintendo's upcoming NX console. At one point the large rumor was that the NX would run Android and as awesome as that may be, Nintendo shot it down pretty quick. As the rumors keep coming and the days march closer to the rumored NX reveal I have been thinking about what i'd like to see in an upcoming Nintendo console.

The Most Compelling Catalog Of Games

Nintendo has been rolling strong in gaming since the early 70's when it got into it's Game and Watch series and as such has a huge library of games. Many of us know this first hand because we keep re-buying the same games over and over again on new hardware. It's as... Read All

December of last year I posted about a new project, the Coleco Chameleon. It's a retro project that aimed to build a new old styled console that would be hackable by modern developers making new retro titles. Recently there have been a lot of doubt thrown on the project as it has been shown that prototypes used faked hardware.

Whereas there can be a fair amount undone in an early prototype this seems to take the notion a bit too far as many in the retro... Read All

Greetings fellow HearthGhosts!!

I made rank 16 for the first time and I'm pretty proud of myself. Why? I created my own mech mage deck!! So what?! It's DIFFERENT!!

I've been playing HS since about last June. I am free-to-play, and I haven't spent a dime on the game. For me the challenge of rank is coming up with a deck that 1) is fun to play and 2) doesn't spend all of my dust to create.

So here's my version of mech mage, followed by why I think it's worth looking at:
Clockwork Gnome x2
Cogmaster x2
Leper Gnome x2
Frostbolt x1
Micro Machine x2
Snowchugger x1
Sorcerer's Apprentice x2
Harvest Golem x2
Spellslinger x2
Spider Tank x2
Tinkertown Technician x2
Fireball x2
Polymorph x1

Miitomo is Nintendos upcoming Android and iOS app that aims to bring Miis to your phone. Miitomo is a social network of sorts that lets you build your Mii much like with the Wii or Wii U and then connect with your friends. Miitomo is a freemium app that, if you want, can spend in game money to customize your Mii. From there you can collect your Mii friends and pose them for special Miifotos you can share on social media like.. Cheerful Ghost. Nintendo has been hyping this for awhile now and today just allowed pre registrations.

You can sign up below and you don't need to own any Nintendo hardware to join in the fun. I hope this ushers in a new era where Nintendo... Read All
