The Angry Video Game is a legend in gaming but the other day I realized he might not be known by everyone. I've known about The Nerd for quite some time and watched a handful of videos but recently decided to start and watch them all. It's been a fun ride(if you can handle an infinity of poop jokes). They are a bit dated now but they hold up considering the reviews focus on classic retro games and consoles.
Do you want to head back to the past? To see someone play shitty games that suck? Might want to checkout The Angry Video Game Nerd.

I'm just not that big of a fan of his. At first it was an interesting gimmick, but over time the act got old for me. But he's one of the original game reviewers on YouTube, so he does get props from me for that.

I'll admit, his swearing rants are a bit samey. In fact very samey. There are some really fun ways to swear, I just wish he explored more of them. That said, if your a fan of scat swearing in a samey way AVGN 4 THE WIN!
Absolutely. I've been watching him for years. At this point I tend to just not give a shit at all when he starts going into his "I'd rather" rants, because it isn't as funny anymore, but the funniest part has always been his reactions to the games themselves, not the "shitload of fuck" rants.

I agree. The review is the best part, not the parts you mention.

I played this game around the time it was released, not the Special Edition though. I have SimCity 4 Deluxe, which I started playing again a month ago. I posted about it in the forums. The sad thing is that I went through the tutorials as I had previously done and then I lost interest in continuing to play it.
I'm getting more like you, too many games, not enough time to play them all.

I agree. Added this to my account so if I want to come back and play it I can, but yeah, when will I get to it?
I snagged this, who knows if I'll ever actually play it, but I have it. To anyone who has a 16/9 or 16/10 monitor (who doesn't these days) here's a resolution fix from reddit:
If you are using a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor, then the game will initially appear slightly distorted for being in the wrong aspect ratio. Fix:
Browse to your Origin games install directory. By default I believe this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ though not sure as I changed mine.
Browse to \SimCity 2000 SE\Game\Game\DOSBox
Open dosbox.conf in a basic text editor like Notepad.
Find the line fullresolution=original. It's near the top in the first section. Change this to fullresolution=desktop
Save the file and run the game. Enjoy non-squidged SimCity!

I almost can't believe how quickly it downloaded and installed. I'm not sure when I will play it though.
Thanks for the resolution fix, Travis. That solution looks very familiar (as in similar to another Sims or SimCity game).

Shovel Knight is on his way to dispense shovel justice to every platform, now adding Sony's current platforms. This trailer is mostly going to be stuff you've already seen if you care at all about Shovel Knight, but at the end there's a very short clip of a Kratos boss fight. This means I'm probably going to be buying the game all over again.

Cygnus Destroyer is on the case with a new Guilty or Innocent verdict of Bible Buffet, the NES Wisdom Tree classic. Bible Buffet is a board game turned digital that features different stages of buffet food. Not only do you have the overmap board mode but the game also features Bible quizzes and a Zelda like adventure mode. Is this game a hidden classic or is it guilty of being terrible? Cygnus Destroyer brings the verdict.

I could imagine playing this with some friends while under the influence of some recreational beverages. But it would be fun because you're enjoying everyone's frustration.
I like this guy's style, definitely checking some others.
For it's intended purpose, being a functional, enjoyable game, the verdict is terrible. Mostly because of the companion question book. If the questions were inside the game, I think this could be an actually interesting game to try out, if only to test my knowledge, but I think I'd rather just play a board game.

During the Game Awards, which is apparently a thing, Nintendo released some new footage from the upcoming Zelda game for the Wii U. We get a glimpse of how big this version of Hyrule will be as well as some improved horse riding mechanics.
Mr. Miyamoto also casually mentions that the next Star Fox will be released sometime before the new Zelda. Cool!
What do you think of the new Zelda footage? Do you look forward to a large, more open world Zelda?

I saw this on Facebook last night, but the volume wasn't loud enough and my son decided to start talking after I hit "play." I'll try to watch it again soon. Honestly, Nintendo doesn't have to do very much to get me impressed with a new Zelda game. =)

Good news indeed. With that, I am in no way going to get hyped or excited about this. The reason is because I was part of the mad hype train by being a passenger as it slammed into a wall. Starbound might be my biggest gaming dissapointment of all time BUT if this update and subsequent updates are golden that could change.
I don't mean to harsh on anyone's good times, but I can only listen and belive a company so many times before I need to emplore the cynicism Ray.
And with that "real soon" in Chucklefish time is that 6 months? /rimshot

I understand. It's kind of hard to believe that a year later, the game still isn't up to version 1.0. I knew that they were having a difficult time with development because the staff were scattered, but I figured development would greatly speed up once they all got together. It doesn't seem like that happened, but I know they have been working on the game for a long time and they frequently post on the site to let us know what they've been doing and are working on. In the news that I posted, they did include a link to what show most of what has been changed with the game, you can check it out if you'd like (http://starbounder.org/Version_History/Nightly).
I enjoyed the game when I first played it, but I reached a point where all it seemed that I was doing was looking for higher-tiered ores to craft higher-tiered gear. I was disappointed a few times at least with the nightly builds. I remember the time they took out the vines that were so abundantly found in caves, which made it much harder to get plant fiber which is an important ingredient in the game. It took me a bit of time to realize that I could get plant fiber by farming, but it was still less abundant. I also remember the game crashing at moments, like loading a saved world or character with a new version of the nightly build. Also, visiting some planets contained nothing but sudden death. Still, I understood that the nightly builds are a work in progress. They've added a new race and some more quests. They've made changes to the game's progression, so I think it *could* be more fun and worth it when they release a new update to the stable build. I may have to pop back into the game's nightly builds to see what's changed since the last time I played (months ago). I do hope that a new stable build is "nearly complete" as they say (also note that on the site "nearly" is written in italics) and not something that we'll have to wait another 6-12 months to see. My impression of this news was that we could definitely see something soon.

This kind of ties in with Terraria. Right now, I can't wait for 1.3 to be released, I'm VERY excited about it and have said so on this site numerous times. Unfortunately, we still haven't been told when that will come. I think I saw a post from October that said it wouldn't come "within the next two months." They also seem to be saying that it will be released when they finish with it, but don't want to put the pressure of a time-table on the developers because they want to make sure everything works well.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that while waiting can be disappointing, it can also be worth it. A better game can be created or updated if developers have enough time to make sure that the game functions very well and is as bug-free as possible. Terraria developers have done a good job at posting some spoilers and updates in the forums, but I think the developers of Starbound have shown much more transparency in regards to what they've been doing. They update their website frequently, which is great because it lets us know that they're still working very hard on additions we expect to see that will (hopefully) make the game much better.

On another note, wow I'm really good at exceeding that 3,000 character comment limit! LOL
While I definitely agree that Starbound released way, way, too early, I still enjoy the game. Then again I intentionally have not played it very much so I don't get burned out on the game before all the core features are implemented. :)
I will probably log in a bit after this next stable update to check out all the new additions though. Now I gotta figure out what I want to name my Novakid character. I had my Glitch character, Whitebot Slim, and my Hylotl Whiteboy Finn...

Travis, where did you find more info about what else they have to do on the game?
Tim, I know the feeling! Since characters were constantly wiped, I didn't really face that problem in Starbound, although I do have that issue in Terraria.

The unstable (not referring to the nightly build) branch has received the Winter Update. I watched a video about this last night. It is expected that this update will reach the stable branch in the next few weeks (probably before we see Terraria 1.3).
I had my copy of Starbound configured to received the nightly builds branch. Unfortunately, the last time it updated, I got an error about Steam failing to update it due to a "disk read error." I ran a scan disk check, which resulted in no errors for my hard drive. So, I re-installed Starbound. I decided to leave it on the stable build, since it should be receiving the Winter Update soon.
I read something recently about the updates coming post-Winter update. They're planning on releasing things more frequently to the stable branch, in smaller chunks, up to the 1.0 release.

That's cool. I'll share some thoughts with you that I had last night. I'm impatiently waiting for Terraria to update, both mobile and PC versions. Yet when it comes to Starbound, I can definitely wait. It's not that I don't like Starbound, I do really, but "like" is an understatement of how I feel about Terraria. Also, both games have good music and I'm sure I've spent more time playing Terraria than Starbound. However, I grew tired of Starbound's music, whereas I don't feel that way about Terraria. Is that odd or understandable? Maybe it's because both games have their own individual sound, I don't know.
When I heard they were rebooting Terminator I was intrigued. I remember when Terminator 2 was going to be broadcast on TV and I bought a special high quality VHS tape to record it. I wore that tape out I watched that film so much.
The trailer for Terminator Genisys dropped today and I can say that I am now officially excited to see the new film. From the trailer it looks like Arnold is back and there is a new "messed up" timeline ALA Star Trek 2009.
What do you think of the Terminator Genisys trailer?

People are calling it a reboot, but it doesn't seem like that to me. It's new actors playing familiar characters but it still takes place in the same continuity.
And one good thing about the Terminator franchise is that there's literally nothing in canon that they can't change. All it takes is sending a terminator back a little farther and a new timeline is born. The Sarah Connor Chronicles had a timeline change after T2 and before T3. Great show, too.
So yeah we terminator fans are used to abandoning canon and accepting new canon. But some are saying this movie will take it too far. Young Sarah growing up with a good terminator? It doesn't bother me, I'm still excited, but a lot of people are complaining loudly about it. I do wish Cameron would come back for another one but I doubt he would at this point.
Pretty interesting video on 25 benefits of gaming while male. Since I am male and gamer I can say that the stuff they mention has never happened to me but is the pretty common with female gamers.

Interesting video. I like that these guys have created this video to help make other gamers aware of issues female gamers go through and that they should be treated equally. I'm pretty much only aware of how males act towards females online because of what my female friends have told or shown me. It's pretty sad that a lot of guys are quite nasty towards them. I think if anyone doubts the mistreatment of female gamers, they should try to play as a female character on a popular MMORPG and they will soon find themselves the victim of the harassment mentioned in this video.
That said, I wish there were more active females here on our site. I am a guy and straight, so I love females, but I don't harass them. I respect them and believe they should be treated fairly. I think everyone should be treated fairly no matter their race, gender, sexual preference, religion, or all those other borders that we, as humans, have used to divide ourselves from one another.

Since the game dropped in 2009 if you have a modern PC you can run it with everything turned up with a pretty high frame rate. Watching buildings topple at a buttery smooth FPS is a sight to behold. Since Red Faction is new on Steam is has a ridiculously low $2.99 price tag for the next 38 hours.
The thing is, they never did. I just signed into GFWL the other day in Fallout 3. Apparently multiplayer still works. Microsoft has said they plan to continue to support it for "years to come," they just aren't releasing new titles with it. I'm glad to see the move away from it though, since it always seemed to cause problems.
Also it isn't new on Steam, the old version got upgraded to the Steam version, but it's been on Steam for a while. The sale price is just a celebration of the update.

Updated post to reflect that, tanks Travis. The only game I've had on GFWL was Age of Empires online and it was shutdown when GFWL was discontinued. Since a bunch of other games lost multiplayer that used the service I figured it shutdown most games but apparently not.
