Oh good! I was going to send this link a couple days ago but I didn't get around to it. This is definitely a must watch for Mario fans and video game fans in general (so, like, folks who are reading this).

Iâm not too ashamed to cheat in some games, I actually think it makes the game much more fun and much less stressful for me. I really donât like a challenge. I used this program for many other C&C games. If you want to cheat in the game like I did, download and install Cheat Engine. When you open it up the first time, it will ask if you want to go through the tutorial. That is your choice, but I found it confusing and definitely unnecessary. The tutorial basically tells you how to discover cheats for a game, but I think itâs way easier to just search the web for a cheat table someone else created. I was able to do this simply and easily. When you have the game running, such as when youâre at the main menu, Alt-Tab back to your desktop and open Cheat Engine. Then select the icon under âFileâ and it will show you a list of processes running on your computer. Select the one thatâs obviously C&C4. Next, click the icon to the right of the first one and there you can browse to the cheat file youâve downloaded and open it. Then, at the bottom of the program, in a big white box, youâll finally see some text. Click on the empty box near the text to enable the codes. Select the very first one to enable the overall cheat ability and then select the one next to whichever cheat you wish to use. After that, go back to your game and enjoy the cheat(s), itâs simple really.
Skip to here if youâre not interested in cheating in the game: It seems the main reason that the game gets such a negative review is due to itâs DRM. The game requires you to login with an EA account. It also requires you to use a key to activate the game. It will not accept the code given to you by Steam when you try to log in and register it via Steam. You must visit EAâs website to activate the game in your EA account. This is actually easy to do and I found a video that shows exactly how to do it: https://youtu.be/Ex3tIL5EcjU
Tutorial, MCV, Unit Limitations: I initially wrote a positive review for the game on Steam. I wanted to share the solution I found so others wouldnât have to waste their time looking for it. However, Iâm not entirely sure the game deserves a full recommendation. First of all, the tutorial is extremely limited, which is unlike some of the other C&C games. C&C3 had a good tutorial and Red Alert 3 has a very detailed tutorial broken up into parts, so you werenât overwhelmed with it all at once. This game doesnât really tell you how to do much. For instance, it says to find a point on the map, but doesnât specify how to move your camera, though this is something you can easily figure out, especially if youâre already familiar with the series. In this game thereâs only one building for constructing units and defenses, the MCV, which can be deployed in three different varieties; offense, defense, and support. This makes the game extremely unique in that you donât have to create buildings for infantry or vehicles or aircraft, itâs all done in the same place. Whatâs more is that youâre limited to how much you can create by something called command points. I think I saw the max available was 60 and each unit costs at least a few of these, so itâs very difficult to amass a massive army to overwhelm your enemy. Iâm not sure how to or if you can increase your command points.
There is also no harvesting of resources. There are red, blue, and green crystals youâll find on the map, which you can pick up to get points to spend on abilities. There are also blue and green orbs youâll find that can increase a unitâs rank. The game doesnât go into much (if any) detail explaining these things.
âCapturingâ structures: There are also some structures that the game will tell you to capture. If youâre familiar with the series, youâll probably assume this means sending an engineer into the structure, since that is the way every other C&C game has worked. However, this time is different. These structures have a meter which displays GDI, neutral, and Nod influence. To capture them, you need the structureâs influence to be on your side. To increase your influence, you need to be around it for a while and have more units in the area than your opponent. While itâs under your opponentâs influence, it will work for them (if itâs a turret for instance) and you can attack it. If you attack it enough, it will go into neutral influence and you wonât be able to (or need to) attack it anymore. Youâll see arrows that point out which direction the influence bar is going. However, there is at least one mission where youâll have to use an engineer to capture certain buildings.
Summary: Honestly, I thought the best part of the game was the very beginning, the intro trailer. Iâm still suck on those limiting command points and I think thatâs a real drag. Iâm not too fond of the deviation of harvesting resources, which is something thatâs been in every other C&C game, except for Renegade (which is a FPS). Even using an invincibility cheat, sometimes the missions were frustrating as you have to chase units across the map and also hold onto certain structures with your limited units (due to command point limitations). The story was ok I guess and the FMVs were crisp. The game looked modern.
Anyway, if you like the C&C series, I think youâd be justified in skipping this one. However, if youâre interested you may want to wait to catch it while itâs on sale. Although, if all of this sounds good to you, then go for it. I didnât include all of this detail in my Steam review, so this is a legit Cheerful Ghost review. đ
P.S. The trailer I just embedded makes the game look more like a movie, it contains very little game play.

Whoa. Glad you felt you could be honest here. It's helpful to know if you don't think a game is very good.
The Command & Conquer + Red Alert remaster looked great and I hope they can bring the same level of awesome to the Red Alert 2 remake.

I think the main negative for me was how much it deviated from the formula of the series. It reminds me of that phrase, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I found the command points too limiting. I'm sure if I hadn't been using an invulnerability cheat I would have created many more units. Instead, I pretty much created one of each and then a couple more of a couple of types I thought were good and I wanted. I doubt I ever had anymore than 20 units, perhaps more than 10, I'm not sure. However, my experience may differ from someone else's so someone else might enjoy it more (or less) than I did. I'm not saying I hated it, but out of all the C&C/RA games I've played (and I've pretty much played all of them, especially again recently), it's not one I'd give a strong recommendation for. It does seem to conclude the story, although the story always seemed concluded at the end of each game, for the most part. Although, the end of C&C3's campaigns felt a bit anti-climatic.
A Red Alert 2 remake would be great, especially since it is slightly complicated to get it to run on modern systems and I really enjoyed it. There are legit ways to get it to work though. RA3 added co-op, which was different, but I still enjoyed that as well. I kind of thought I wouldn't enjoy Renegade as much as I did, I'd also recommend it. As for C&C3, I gave it a positive Steam review. I thought the actors were great, especially the very passionate performance of Billy Dee Williams. So as to not leave it out, Tiberian Sun was good, too. It might not run too well on modern systems, but there are resolutions for that as well.

One thought I've had since the Nintendo Switch was released was if Apple would note what Nintendo has done and come a bit closer to supporting games in a more classic way. Tap games have been a huge part of gaming for some but some games just don't translate well and that distance makes a full gaming experience hard on phones and tablets. That is, it was until Apple decided to support a ton of different controllers on iOS such as Xbox Wireless Controllers that support bluetooth, PlayStation DualShock 4 and any MFI Apple certified controller. Apple certified MFI controllers have been supported in iOS for ages but when Apple officially added support for XBox & Playstation 4 controllers I knew Apple was trying to give controller gaming a shot in the arm as a lot of gamers have access to these controllers already.
Fast forward to now and I have recently secured a fresh new iPad Air 4th gen and one major part of getting it was to play games on it. But support for controllers on iOS isn't widespread and tap gaming still rules the roost so how good is gaming on an iPad and iOS? One big miss of this post is Apple Arcade as I don't have a subscription and haven't felt the need to get one. One big reason is frankly the iPad naturally comes with enough gaming for me in it's free to play and games I've already purchased. At some point I may jump into Apple Arcade but for now, I'm good.
Games Are As Fun As The Controls Are
I'll just say right out of the box that a lot of my experience of gaming on phones hasn't been fun because the controls aren't fun. Like I said before, some games just don't work for me by tippy tapping on a screen. I know some folks love tapping away playing a shooter on a phone but I just don't. I've spent so many hours playing shooters with a keyboard and mouse and controller it's harder to move to a less precise scheme. Platformers also don't always transfer well to phones either so, to date, unless the game was made with the tapping in mind it hasn't been much fun for me. Adding in some totally bullshit free to play mechanics and a lot of phone games don't hold my attention very long.
All that in mind I bought an XBox One bluetooth wireless controller knowing that it would pair well with iOS to play games on my iPad. I wasn't sure how well the XBox controller would work with iOS but I can honestly say that after using it for a week it's incredibly seamless and a real testament to Microsoft engineering (it's a great controller) and Apple to do such a great job making it feel like a native device on iOS. The native integration with the XBox controller is so good on iOS that the new battery widget that shows battery life on your iPad and other devices like bluetooth headphones also shows the XBox One battery level. It seems a lot of tech companies are using open technology to connect devices such as bluetooth, usb c and that means when we buy something we can use it many more situations. Not only can the XBox One bluetooth controller pair with iOS but also my PC and Mac too.
What Tablet Games Work With Controllers?
Call of Duty Mobile: Historically I'm not a Call of Duty fan but I heard good things about Call of Duty Mobile and that it had great controller support. I'd say if you played Call of Duty mobile with tap controls it's a good shooter. Solid effort, some fun there but with a controller it's such an elevated experience. In fact, Call of Duty mobile with the XBox controller on the iPad feels like Counter Strike or at least it does the way I'm playing it. The cool part of Call of Duty mobile is like Fortnite it's a free to play game where you buy in a season pass and skins. There are some unfortunate loot box mechanics to getting certain skins but if you don't care about "catching them all" it's entirely avoidable. I've already unlocked a couple skins and find you can collect enough stuff through normal play or watching videos to get currency to unlock stuff to be completely fine. In fact I find the whole watch a video to unlock currency thing to be a good trade if you wanted to get something in game and get the developers money in a way that doesn't cost you anything but time.
I've avoided the Call of Duty Mobile Battle Royale modes entirely in favor of playing Frontline mode which reminds me of a simplified Counter Strike style of gameplay. There are other modes such as free for all or other capture and hold modes that make Call of Duty Mobile a more compelling game than it's Desktop/PC counterpart Call of Duty Warzone (add more game modes please).
NBA 2K Mobile: NBA 2K Mobile takes the battle tested NBA 2K formula and simplifies it for mobile tap controls and a free to play ecosystem. The free to play revolves around energy so the idea is you play matches that takes energy and at some point if you play enough you wait for more energy to recharge or pay to buy more. I find this a fine free to play model because I've never played enough to run down my energy. Oh and it works really well with a controller too. In fact NBA 2K mobile with a controller feels like a normal ol' NBA 2K game with shorter matches and some simplified controls. I'm not saying this is the best basketball game experience you can have, in fact just getting a full NBA 2K game would be, but it's a solid mobile effort and it being free isn't a bad thing either.
Gwent: Card games on mobile work because the card game mechanic is perfect for tap controls. As such there is no controller support and even if they had it I'm not sure I'd play it that way. I'm a very light Gwent player and as such am not very good but it's a great game on a Tablet and is also a good example of a free to play game that doesn't feel too predatory. It might be harder for hardcore Gwent players and you may need to buy a fair amount of packs to be competitive but for just playing around in training mode it's fun enough for me.
Did I say Gwent's art style is incredibly beautiful too? I'm not sure if it's my new iPad display or what but Gwent pops for me and is a good example of a very rich art design that works great on a tablet.
Wayward Souls: Wayward Souls is a game I bought a few years ago on my iPhone that is one of the best rogue like platformers with tap controls. That said, it's native support on tablet for controllers blows it up to one of the most fun rogue likes I've played in years. Given that I prefer a controller for these kinds of games Wayward Souls feels at home on my tablet. Given how good this is I might pick it up on PC and if you haven't played it I seriously recommend you give it a go.
Doom: We all knew I'd squeeze yet another Doom review into this post so let's get to it. Yes I love Doom and yes I have to get it on every platform I can. So far I have Doom on DOS, PC, Mac, PS3, Switch and now iOS. First I wanted to see how well Doom with tap controls fared and it's not great. It's a good effort by Bethesda here but Doom wasn't made for these kinds of controls and it doesn't feel natural to play it this way. Recently Doom on mobile added support for controllers and it makes it feel as good as Doom is to play on the Switch, which is to say, it's a very worthy port.
My Thoughts on How Gaming Goes From Here
For the most part you can port just about any game to any system and there is a good story now that the game can even be quite a bit of fun. When ports of games like Bioshock, Borderlands and Doom sell fantastically well on the Switch and we now see how good controller gaming has come to tablets I'm wondering how long until tablets and the like are normal delivery platforms for big box games? The monetization for games on mobile platforms seems like the final hurdle here and how people consider pricing on these platforms might be more prohibitive than the technology itself. Case in point I just picked up Stardew Valley on iOS for $3 and with a controller it feels like a very natural way to play but it's $14.99 on Steam and that price distance, while good for me, makes it hard for bigger games to come to mobile.
That said, the future of games seems to be every game can be played anywhere and it seems like it's just a matter of which platforms the developers decide make the most sense to work with.
More Information on What Controllers Are Supported in iOS
I've been thinking about picking up a cheap Windows tablet so I can play my Steam games on it. My laptop quit a while ago, and I've just not bothered to replace it, so I've been computerless the past couple years. I've not missed it much, since my phone does all really anything I need, and I have work computers if I need to see something in a large format, but I wouldn't install games on those.
This post is making me lean towards getting a tablet eventually! (I'll probably wait until after Christmas, as I've dropped some hints about it lol)

I believe Genesis Pt. 2 is supposed to be the culmination of all of the Ark content released in the last five years. Everything has lead us to this. The game really doesn't throw the lore in your face, so if you want to know what's going on, you'll have to dig a bit. Otherwise, there are some good videos on YouTube covering the Ark lore and there are theories running around on the game's forum. Initially you'll probably be introduced to Rockwell by obtaining notes called "Rockwell Recipes," but you can also open Explorer Notes which are in various locations in each of the game's "story" maps (The Island, Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, and Genesis Pt. 1). However, it isn't until Aberration that the game seems to focus more on the characters of Rockwell and Helena. In Genesis Pt. 1, you have a small robotic companion named HLN-A that follows you around and tells you about being in the simulation. Yes, Genesis Pt. 1 is a simulation, you and HLN-A work together to figure out just what is going on as there are many "glitches" to repair.
There are some cool new looking creatures to look forward to as always. There are also some familiar creatures as well. I saw Pteranodons flying, so I'm hoping that means you can actually fly this time. Strangely enough, Genesis Pt. 1 had flying creatures, but didn't allow you to fly, though you could enable this on your own server or in your single player game. There weren't flying creatures in Aberration either, just something that could jump great distances and another that could glide.
Also in the Ark news today, TLC 3 has been released. This is the third time the devs have taken some creatures, given them a new look and some new abilities. This time the Stego and Mammoth received some TLC. Luckily, you cannot be dismounted on the Stego, as there are Microraptors in the game that can dismount you. They have different "states" in which they can change into with each different attack being beneficial in different ways, for instance one is better for harvesting thatch, another for berries. Mammoths got another seat added to their saddle, which now fits two. The new seat is for someone to play war drums, which have been in the game since the beginning, but they now give a buff. For instance, they make it so that your creatures can't become afraid as is something that occurs with an ability used by the Yutyrannos. Mammoths were also given some extra attacks.
Also included in this TLC is a bit of a taming UI overhaul that helps you better see what's going on while you're taming a creature, such as displaying it's torpor, so you don't have to go into it's inventory and keep an eye on it. Another addition with this TLC is the ability to finally breed insects and bats. You can watch the video released for TLC 3 here: https://youtu.be/bL_d6-jo0yY
If you're interested in Ark, it's currently on sale. If you want to discuss any of this, feel free to do so in the comments. I've tried to avoid spoilers w/ regards to Rockwell and Helena, but if you want to discuss those, feel free to let me know.
Firstly, why do super villains monologue so much? You'd think there would be some support group for them and a stickied thread would be "DON'T MONOLOGUE YOUR PLAN TO ANYONE, IT'S BETTER TO KEEP YOUR PLANS SECRET!" As much as we love David Tennant he should know better!
Secondly, it's cool to see you still playing Ark Greg! Seriously, I love reading more about this game and it's cool you still play it.
Lastly I've downloaded Ark on my tablet (more on my tablet in a recently post) and I plan on playing it. I'm not sure how much of the Ark experience is on the tablet version but it's free and i've heard it supports controllers in a great way. I've been playing other games but Ark is installed and i'm gonna make the jump at some point soon.

Thanks for letting me know someone's still interested in what I have to share and say about it. Recently I was thinking about writing a post "why am I still playing Ark" post. Steam says I've clocked just over 3300 hours! The game has disappointed me. I feel like it started off at such a high point that it just couldn't possibly top itself. It did get better in many ways, but I've run into multiple issues which have not yet been resolved, even though some are years old.
Check out the bottom of my post as I just updated it w/ 2 videos by Anthomnia who covers Genesis Pt. 2 details that Studio Wildcard released during the Extra Life event. He watched it all and broke it down into some what small videos for us to see and I greatly appreciate it. This isn't the first time he's done this. I actually find it kind of humorous regarding the things the devs decide to create Tek versions of. I think they should create a Tek Toilet, there is a regular toilet in the game. Tek items are the highest quality/best items and usually require Element to craft and power. Element is given as a boss reward, but there are other ways to obtain it, such as collecting Element Dust from defeating Tek versions of creatures. Yes, they added those in and they look cool! In my experience, most bosses are extremely difficult to do by yourself, even with "single player settings" enabled, so I usually just use the command console and give myself some Element.
I'm not sure how it would work on a laptop, but I suspect it wouldn't be very great, so you'll have to let me know how that goes. I actually did try to play it w/ a controller, but it just didn't feel right to me. I heard or read some where that the Switch version was pretty bad as the console isn't powerful enough for the game. The game is most definitely power hungry and requires quite a beefy system to run it at max quality even at 1080p/60FPS. It usually runs well for me now, but the main map, The Island, often dips to about 40FPS using the "extreme" preset, so I've sometimes changed it to "high." That puts the game at a good near 60FPS just about all of the time. I didn't really notice this during my recent play through and I played on pretty much every official map except Ragnarok and The Center. I didn't spent very much time on The Island, though.
I'm hoping Genesis Pt. 2 won't disappoint me like all the other DLC except for Scorched Earth did. I once eagerly awaited the release of an Ark DLC, but I've now learned to keep my eagerness in check. I'm not impatient about it now. The game and it's updates never get released when they first say they will, there's always a delay, so that's to be expected. After so much of this, I've learned to be patient.
I wonder what's in store for Ark's future or if Genesis Pt. 2 will truly be the end of it. I really hope not. I saw some movie trailers years ago, but I haven't seen, read, or heard anything about an Ark movie for a long time.

Iâve seen this with games on Steam. Someone clocks in a ton of hours and then rates the game poorly, not to say this is you, itâs not really but sort of. This happened to me with Hearthstone but for entirely different reasons you have with Ark. I played it free to play for a ton of time and then burned out due to the free to play economy getting way to grindy. Plus I think I was just really burned out on it because when you spend so much time doing something itâs hard not to be. Is Hearthstone a great game? Yep. Did I get really burned out on it and need to step away? Yep.

I appreciate Arlo's review of Super Mario 3D All Stars as he gives the games a fair shake and talks about a lot of the issues with 64 and Sunshine. I've heard a lot of criticism about this collection in that it's not a good value but I agree with Arlo here, if you are a fan of these games and want to play them this collection is a no brainier. I'd skip this collection if you aren't wanting to come back and play these games but if you are interested and don't have your Wii and 64 hooked up to your TV this is a great way to go. Personally I've never played Super Mario Sunshine and Mario 64 so this collection was a good way for me to catch up.
I consider Super Mario Bros. 2 to be one of the most unique and creative Mario platformers around. Even so the complaints about it being no more than a lazy Doki-Doki Panic skin are plentiful but how accurate are those critiques? According to a timely Retro Game Mechanics Explained video, apparently Super Mario Bros. 2 does some creative sprite magic to add the Mario characters to the game in that they use two sprites to get more than 5 colors for each character(4 colors per sprite being a hardware limitation of the NES).

If you are looking for more Halloween gaming fun you can get Blair Witch & the recent Ghostbusters Remastered for free on PC on the Epic store until November 5th! Happy to see this Ghostbusters game get a proper remastering as it's the last thing to feature the voice talent of all four original Ghostbusters before Harold Ramis passed.

Thanks for the tip! More free games to add to my EGS library, that I still haven't touched. I mean, I've claimed a lot of free games and haven't even installed the EGS launcher, so I haven't played any of them yet. I do have a wish list there, but I prefer games to be on Steam. I also noticed that the EGS wish list is limited to a certain amount of items.

In this spooky episode of Dreadful Ghost Radio, Timogorgon, Travis BOOman, and Jon DEADson take a time out from the real world horror that is 2020 to discuss some of our favorite horror movies and Halloween traditions, after talking about what we've been playing and watching over the past few weeks.

Oh good! I was going to send this link a couple days ago but I didn't get around to it. This is definitely a must watch for Mario fans and video game fans in general (so, like, folks who are reading this).
