The box copy comes with a 2 CD jewel case with the Megawad plus original music by Metal God Buckethead. For original Doom fans the Megawad seems like a must play and for avid PC game collectors this Limited Run pressing seems just as important. Please believe I'll be playing the Megawad on launch...

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Doom, designer John Romero is releasing SIGIL a free Doom megawad that continues the original Doom campaign. Can't use enough words to say how badass this is and how simple the concept is. John Romero is releasing a free Doom wad you can play for free but also, if you want, get a Limited Run pressing of it for a $40 box and $166 Beast box.

YouTube Channel Noclip is fastly becoming one of my favorite gaming channels as it focuses primarally on longer form video game documentaries. Funded by a healthy Patreon, Noclip has created some great docs such as one I shared recently for The Witness. I've been sitting on sharing this one for a while and now seems like a great time with Doom Resurrection on the horizon. The first part of the series is embedded above called To Hell & Back and covers the original Doom game iD was working on before it was rebooted to become Doom 2016. They show off screenshots and gameplay and interview the original designer and developers about it. The second part Designing a...
Game demos used to be a staple of gaming but in recent years are few and far between. Some live on mostly as console downloads and seem to have nearly evaporated on PC. Ben Paddon of PortsCenter takes a look at why and it seems to be because game demos ... don't really sell games. Still it's fun to look back at what game demos were and some good examples of modern titles that did well with releasing a demo.
You don't need to wait for a Steam based handheld because it's already here and it's in it's second form in the GPD Win 2. GPD makes lots of portable systems and I actually own one of them in the portable Android handheld GPD XD. The GPD Win 2 looks to improve the specs and hardware of it's initial launch to cram a ton of PC horsepower into the palm of your hands such as..
To put this handheld in perspective the...
- Intel Core m3-7Y30
- lntel HD Graphics 615
- 6 inches H-IPS Technology
- 8GB Memory
- M.2 SSD 128GB, Replaceable, No Capacity Ceiling
- 1629925mm
- ABS + Aluminum alloy
- 24900mAh, In Series
- About 6~8 hours of battery life, it should depend on the actual working conditions

I've been wondering how the new Doom Switch port stacks up to the PC & PS4 versions and Digital Foundry has a great break down video. Doom on the Switch runs a bit under 720p and runs at an uneven 30 fps. All that said, the port looks good and if you want to run Doom on the go I can't imagine a better way to play it.
Makes sense that DF Retro's longest episode to date covers Doom, one of the most important games ever made. In this nearly hour long opus DF Retro talks about each Doom console port and how they nearly all relate to each other. He also talks about the Doom console ports history, limitations and playability.
"id softwareâs Doom played a key part in gamingâs transition from two to three dimensions, and its legacy of technical innovation continues to this day. On this episode of DF Retro, John explores its origins on the PC before comparing and contrasting this against every official console conversion. There's a lot of ground to cover so buckle up for the longest episode...

Games Done Quick is back with it's yearly summer speedrun and so far it's as amazing as ever. If you can spare some time to watch the runs and donate to Doctors Without Borders I encourage you do to so. The next speedrun that will drop in a few minutes is of Doom 2016 then Half-life 2 and Silent Hill 2 wraps up the day. That said if you are up late, Summer Games Done Quick is up all night with you streaming round the clock until this Sunday at midnight!
The Games Done Quick charity run is something I look forward to watching twice a year and it's always good to donate to a great cause!

Mikey Newmann is the creator behind the YouTube Series "Movies With Mikey" and is/was one of the leader writers working for 2K Games on the Borderlands series. Recently he stepped away from 2K and is focusing on his YouTube channel full time and one awesome benefit of that is that the show PortCenter is back!
In this episode Ben Paddon talks about the two Doom ports on the GBA for Doom and Doom 2. He dives in to what versions of the game they are based on and that Doom II wasn't based on the original Doom II source at all. I didn't know Doom was ported to the GBA, but it makes sense it was as it's been ported to nearly everything.

I want to thank everyone that voted in this years 2016 Cheerful Ghost Game of the Year Awards. This year Scrypt made us a cool "I Voted" image linked above that you should checkout, print out and stick on your wall if you voted.
This years winners are a very unique mix I am really happy with. I am not sure most sites would have made the choices we all did which is one of the reasons why I think our awards are different.

Indie Game of the Year: No Man's Sky

If iD made this i'd buy it. It's like Wallace and Grommit but way more blood and killing.
Oh man, he got Buckethead for the soundtrack. Thatâs amazing!
I heard about this the other day, kinda in passing. I didnât realize it was getting a physical release.
Soundtrack is only on the limited run physical release.
I watched Romero stream some of the levels yesterday, they looked cool. I will probably check on the free wad when it comes out.
