This year is a bit different as Valve has a new Cookie Clicker-esque game called Tower Attack where you join the ranks of other Steam users clicking bad guys and taking them down together. You can upgrade your character to attack automagically so as such I recommend sinking skill points into the Auto Fire Cannon and Advanced Targeting. If the community beats enough bosses in the next 16 hours we will unlock some deep discounts on the...
General Discussion
The place for conversation that doesn't make sense to talk about in any specific game in our list. Think of General Discussion as a "catch all" for conversations about gaming, game culture or anything else worth sharing.
It's the time to hide yo' wallets because the Steam Summer Sales is finally here. Like the years before you can buy a load of games for a steep discount. As usual try and hunt for a flash sale as they seem to net you the most savings.

If you are a modern PC gamer more than likely you have bought a game on Steam. And if you have a large Steam library I imagine you've purchased games you wish you could return. In the era where more and more of our entertainment is purchased digitally I was very happy to see Valve drop a new Steam Refund policy. It's pretty simple and I encourage you to read it. The main points are pretty simple.
"The Steam refund offer, within two weeks of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime, applies to games and software applications on the Steam store. Here is an overview of how refunds work with other types of purchases."

If you want some Steam hardware as soon as it's ready, whether that's a Steam Machine, controller, Steam Link, or a combination, Valve's put up their preorder page. The Link and the controller come straight from Steam, or you can get Alienware machines from Gamestop, or Syber machines straight from them.
The controller and Link are $49.99 each, or you can get them bundled. There's no cost savings there, but it's a bit of a convenience.
The Alienware Steam Machines start at $449, and Cyber's start at $499. They all look great, but the Link might be all I need. I'm still waiting to see what kind of media capabilities they'll have. If it can stream my Steam games and act...

We usually don't speculate endlessly about rumors, but occasionally some surface that seem interesting. From the NeoGAF post:
"The interesting part is that the article starts by discussing Nintendo's next platform - the one Iwata codenamed NX. They have an insider source who claims that the OS for the platform will be Android based, and that it is a paradigm shift for Nintendo business-wise. The source goes on to say that when third parties abandoned Nintendo's WiiU one by one, it caused turning point in the company. So while they have had a philosophy of developing their own software and hardware concepts internally for all these years, they are now prepared to...

In a recent email from Nintendo they dropped some news that they are bringing back the Nintendo Wold Championships. The Nintendo World Championships was a competition in the 90's that kids took part in so the best Nintendo gamer in the world could be crowned. If this all sounds familiar it is because this was the basic plot for the 90's classic film "The Wizard." Nintendo is bringing back the World Championships at this years E3 and I am happy they are making a live stream available to watch.
"For the first time in 25 years, some of Nintendo's biggest fans will get to go head-to-head in a gaming showdown for the ages. Join a worldwide audience by watching the live...

Summer is coming up and with it a ton of game related conventions. I usually have a Cheerful Ghost booth at a few Oregon cons and this year we will keep with that tradition. This year will be a bit different as we will have a Cheerful Ghost booth that we share with Starship Rubicon, our first published game. After the rebranding of the site I've really wanted to get the new Ghost art on some new swag and wanted to show off the new Cheerful Ghost button. Pin this on your bag to show the world you visit a website they never heard of(hipster points for everyone)!
We will be showing Starship Rubicon and have the new Ghost swag sticker, button and more stuff I can't talk...

When I first got into NES games I begged my parents for a subscription to Nintendo Power. Nintendo Power was a monthly dose of magazine crack that kept us all updated on all things Nintendo. New YouTuber Shawntendo64 has a fun series called "Nintendo Power Recharged" where he talks about Nintendo Power an issue at a time. His first video on the topic covers Nintendo Power 1 and is a good summary of what's included. If you were part of the Nintendo Fan Club you received this issue for free as an attempt to get you to opt for the yearly sub.
I remember reading this issue cover to cover but due to the ignorance of youth never held on to the large stack of Nintendo Power...

The Indie Game scene is bigger and more vibrant than ever. Steam has over 7481 games and DLC available, a large percent of those games being made by Indie developers. As large studios continue to release the same kind of shooter or fighting game Indie developers often branch out with unique titles like Besige, The Talos Principle & Kerbal Space Program. GameLoading: Rise of the Indies is a new documentary that explores aspects of Indie game culture as seen through the stories of developers.
Since GameLoading derives itâs story and flow from the developers and games they are building occasionally the pacing suffers as it breaks out of a personal story in favor of a...

PIGSquad is a local Indie PDX game group that I frequent and Cheerful Ghost sponsors from time to time. Recently OPB radio covered the Ludum Dare game jam and you can listen to the story above. The piece paints a great picture of how jams work and also covers the local scene.
I am also part of the piece so if you want to hear me talk about a local game jam game, check it out starting at 12:28. I wasn't at the jam as I was away from Portland and the time but was able to make to the OPB and talk to April about PIGSquad and gaming.
If you are interested in going to a local PIGSquad event, I recommend you checkout the PIGSquad site and subscribe to the Facebook page.

For me, the game never worked in my browser, but it worked in Steam. I tried Chrome and Firefox, with an incognito thrown in to make sure it wasn't an extension. Dunno what's going on there.
But we're back to the situation we discussed in the roundtable. Any game I would buy, I already have. Except GTAV which is on sale today for half off, but I don't know for sure my computer would run it well, and there's no demo. It isn't even easily piratable apparently.
I didn't play the game, but I read about it. There are a ton of games that are on sale! No many caught my attention, but I ended up following some. The Quake pack is tempting, for one thing.
I've been waiting for the sale to see if State of Decay: YOSE would drop in price, and it has! Now I'll wait to see if it hits the Flash sale...
A few other games that I picked up for dirty-dirt cheap:
Might possibly pick up one, maybe two of the following:
The Monster Game is a much better idea than previous Steam Sale gimmicks. The entire community working together to unlock games is more in the spirit of what a Steam Sale is all about (i.e. it's basically Christmas). One of the sales that is unlocking from this first round is for a game called Creeper World III: Arc Eternal, which looks kind of amazing. It's already on sale for under $5. Maybe, probably...definitely will pick that one up.
I meant to link to Creeper World III - http://store.steampowered.com/app/280220/
I'm considering Valkyria Chronicles. This is after playing through twice on PS3. That game is a masterpiece.
The Witcher trilogy is available together for just less than $60. A friend recently got The Witcher III for his XBox One and said it was good. The video I saw yesterday made me think that it is a game I'd most likely enjoy. It seems to be a lot like Skyrim, which to me is a plus. The Assassin's Creed games are on sale, too. I have another friend who's talked a lot about those games and enjoys them. That's tempting to pick up, but I think I'd like to play a demo first. I may, later, look up some game demos on the PS3 for different games I've thought of playing which don't seem to have a Steam demo. Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of those games. It seems to be popular and good, but I think I'd like to try it out first. I'm still not sure how I feel about Origins.
Lately I've been playing Hearthstone and Guild Wars 2. I kind of want to play something different. I *really* want to play Terraria 1.3, but still have a couple of weeks to go. So, I might find something else to fill in that time.
My favorit part of the Steam Sale: making money! I've been playing the clicker game briefly on my phone (not a fantastic experience on my phone), and I've earned Steam cards that have been selling for 10 cents each. It's not much, but it's always fun to get paid for nothing.
Now to figure out Bitcoins...
I've been selling off excess Steam trading cards + the sale trading cards and I now have 96 cents. I hope to have a couple bucks in a few days to buy a game.
You two are having a different experience than I am. I haven't played the sale game yet, but I bought some games! =) I decided to go with The Witcher Trilogy and I'm playing them in order. Combat took a little figuring out/getting used to, but I think I have it just about mastered now. I'm enjoying it. Essentially, it seems that I paid for a slightly discounted Witcher 3 and got the other two games for free.
Looking back at old posts about the games, I found that Travis mentioned Burnout Paradise in one. I played one of the Burnout games a few years ago and thought it was cool. Since BP was only $10, I went ahead and got it.
Is anyone else picking up some games? Feel free to check my trading cards and offer trades. I have 1, 4, 5, and 7 of 10. I have an extra 5 and 7.
Valkyria Chronicles came back down to $4.99. *whew! I was hoping it would dip lower, and instead it went higher. But now it's back. I know you guys were worried. It's all good.
Anyone blitzing today, or did we all get what we wanted from this slashfest?
Having bought the Witcher Trilogy (bundle) and Burnout Paradise, I've already bought more games than usual at one time. I don't mind though, I saved some money and believe I got some good games (so far I've only played The Witcher). This is probably the first Steam sale I've really taken advantage of and I'm not sure if I'm done. I'm tempted to get Jurassic Park and maybe the Assassin's Creed games.
I have literally not bought anything this time around. I'm cool with that. I have enough to keep me going for a while. I'll hold off til the Christmas sale. :)
Me too Travis. I could spend the next year replaying stuff
I think I'm good now. I have 4 games to play and for now that's plenty. I'd like to investigate Assassin's Creed some more and perhaps figure out this demo on the PS3. Jurassic Park seems like a good game from the reviews, but it's also short. It sounds like it's worth it's value now that it's on sale, though.
In fact, this year I came out of the sale with more money in my Steam wallet than when I started. I sold off all my trading card doubles as well as each 2015 Summer Sale card I received. Now I have $1.68 and if I keep selling cards a bit at a time I might have enough to buy an extra copy of Terraria or something small.
