Discussion Forums

The Cheerful Ghost Forums are the place for any kind of discussion around games, movies or off-topic threads that are not on the main page.

Hello, my fellow Cheerful Ghosts. Jon and I have had a couple of discussions in private messages about ideas to increase our membership. While we're both at a loss for ideas, I suggested that we ask our fellow Cheerful Ghosts what they you. So, do you have any ideas?

This discussion came after my comment on the "25 Invisible Benefits of Gaming While Male" video. I had said that I wish there were more females here. He commented and asked me to PM him if I had any ideas on how to do so. Although our main contributors are primarily males, I try to write my posts keeping in mind that males and females alike may read them. Hence, I don't usually say something... Read All

It's that time of year when the community selects it's Game of the Year. This year, I think we should do something a bit different in that we select a Game of the Year and a secondary Honorable Mention.

Drop the games you think we should vote on in the comments and remember this is games that were released in 2014. We will post the final list for voting on December 20th, so act now!

I was recently looking at some videos my favorite YouTuber (Paul Soares Jr. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP6f9x4iXk3LH8Q1sqJmYPQ) had posted in his Indie Test Drive series and saw Don't Starve. It looks kind of interesting and a Tim Burton artistic look. In the video, Paul mentioned that buying the game gives you a second key for the game to share with a friend. So, I was wondering if anyone has played this game and what you thought about it. If you thought it was a good game, do you also have an extra key you want to give away?

Interesting take on a more modern style for The Last Starfighter trailer. The Last Starfighter is a 80's classic sci-fi film many of us grew up loving.

I wonder if this film deserves a remake?

So, I went to my local Kroger today to get some groceries and was surprised to see a Sega Genesis for sale! The last time I was there, I noticed there was an Atari for sale. Apparently, both consoles have been released in new versions. This Genesis that I picked up is very small and comes with two wireless controllers, but is compatible with classic wired controllers (not included). It contains 80 built-in games. I'm very excited about this because I've been wanting a Sega Genesis for many, many years now. This console is compatible with Genesis game carts, but having built-in games, means that I don't have to try to locate carts for some of my favorite... Read All

Really strange old Nintendo ad I never saw until recently. Apparently this was the ad they went with. Wonder how bad the others were?

There is a cannon that shoots salmon over dams.
It’s awesome. Check it out.

This is such a rad video.

Fish passage is a big deal in the hydro engineering world. This salmon cannon made big news a while ago when it came out, but it's not the only inventive solution. One of my friends and coworkers, Ryan Greif, designed a decompression chamber for fish called the Decompression Raceway (http://scholarworks.umass.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1492&context=fishpassage_conference)

The result of yesterday's mid-term elections has inspired me to play SimCity again. Is that strange? Is it just me? Am I weird, or did the result inspire you to play a game? Grand Theft Auto comes in to mind, too. What do you think?

The other day I was talking to someone about the music of the original NES Ninja Turtles game and found a YouTube video featuring the main song. As I played it I noticed a link the comments where someone had captured all the music from classic games and made them available for download.

If you have wanted to relive some of the classic music from games you own on NES or Super Nintendo I seriously recommend you checkout YouTube or NES Sprites.

So, I was having a cool conversation with a sales associate at GameStop today, and it made me think more about this post that I'm creating. She mentioned that she was playing Final Fantasy XV: A Real Reborn. I asked if she played FFXI, to which she replied, "no." Therefore, I have a few questions for you, my fellow Cheerful Ghosts.

Have you played FFXV? If so, what are your thoughts about the game? Also, have you played FFXI? If so, what are your thoughts on that game and both games? I played XI, but not XV. I wasn't very successful with XI and I believe it's because I'm so used to being a solo gamer and apparently the game is primarily for parties, groups... Read All

It looks like someone created Midgar (from FFVII) in Midgar in two years. The map is downloadable. This is one of those Minecraft projects that just makes you say, "whoa."

Ever since Disney bought LucasFilm I have been awaiting new StarWars content. Immediately Disney queued up Star Wars VII with JJ Abrams directing as well as Star Wars: Rebels a new Disney XD animated show. I wasn't terribly interested in Star Wars: Rebels but after seeing episode one available for a free download in iTunes, I decided to give it a shot.

The first episode contains so many Star Wars references and I was happy to have noticed them. First thing that might be of note is that the characters take a chartered flight on "Star Tours." They base the ship and Rex pilot after the old Star Tours ride before Disney refurbished it a few years ago.
