It's been four years since the Star Wars sequel trilogy began, and with The Rise of Skywalker, the trilogy concludes. If you've heard any previous episode of this show, you likely heard a tangent about Star Wars, so it's no surprise that we are talking about this, one of the biggest events in recent Star Wars history. I'm imagining an "Emperor Hunters" series, where there's a big industry after RoS, where bounty hunters and assasins have been brought into a new Emperor Hunter Guild. They track down possible clones of the Emperor, all over the Universe, capture the possible clone, perform a DNA test, then either kill them, if they're a clone, or let them go, if they're not a clone.
The main protagonist is your "Average Joe" Emperor Hunter (I'm imagining a middle-aged Bill Murray for the role), who has been on the job for years, but is depressed because the thrill of the job is gone. Now he's basically a government employee who does mostly paperwork and every once in a while has to go check the DNA of a baby.
The show would follow the Average Joe character as he deals with living a mundane life, having a family, but longing for the excitement of the hunt, but probably being too old and out of shape to be able to *actually* hunt down a dangerous clone... until he gets a random tip and starts following it to a secret cloning lair, where he has to figure out a way to not get caught, and destroy the cloning apparatus.
If you want some New Hope hype, here's a reaction video just released today. 3 people that had never seen the original movies (but are watching The Mandalorian, and have some knowledge of the prequels lol) and one that has. It's super fun :)
Elon Must is definitely one incarnation of the Emperor.
That's an interesting idea for an Emperor Hunter show. There are so many Emperor clones that the job is very rote and boring sounds kind of interesting but a show about nothing would NEVER WORK! 🤣
In the crawl for The Rise of Skywalker it says "THE DEAD SPEAK" and it's a reference to The Emperor sending out a transmission to the galaxy in Star Wars which Kylo is hunting him down from. Apparently that transmission was sent from within Fortnite!

Another good pod y'all! I loved The Rise of Skywalker. I feel it will add to The Last Jedi on future viewings. Especially around Luke's interaction with Rey.
I feel overall TROS fits in well with the other trilogies. The core of each trilogy is around a Skywalker and a Palpatine, and this makes this trilogy have a similar story arc.
It also felt like a return to Star Wars for me. While I love TLJ, it does not feel like a Star Wars movie to me. The filming and story of TLJ felt more removed from all the other films.
I really loved the last scene of the movie. It really felt like Rey had finally found a home with the Skywalkers. As an adoptive parent, this really struck a cord with me. Family doesn't have to be blood.
Nitpicks:
The second transport with Chewy on it. This seem convenient for the story. After the movie, I was wondering how nobody saw that there were two transports.
The dagger also seemed convenient. Maybe I didn't understand its origins correctly, but I thought it was an ancient Sith artifact (older than the death star). The fact that it points to the Death Star and the fact that the wreckage fit perfectly within the outline of the piece of metal that slides out of the dagger made it feel like Abrams and Terrio didn't really have a good way to tie this artifact in with the story. Maybe someone added the piece of metal that slides out, post death star exploding?
I did not feel like the kiss between Kylo and Rey was earned. It seemed a little too on the nose for me, but my wife loved it!
Overall I loved this ending. Then again, I have loved all Star Wars movies.

Jon, I think all these shows are coming to Quibi, not Disney+. Buy into the Quibi hype!

I can't wait to watch it again. That said, with my schedule and the fact it's not on home video, i'll have to. 🤣

There's a cool behind the scenes video that shows off many of the ships we saw in that large fleet. I didn't recognize all of them when I first saw it, but since then I've watched more Star Wars (including Resistance and Rebels), so it's cool to see these ships in there. I thought you'd enjoy this, so here you go, it's short: https://youtu.be/Hgkt9jTx-bM

Doom Eternal now has a release date of March 20, 2020. You can now put it on your Steam wish list. It won't come to the Switch on that date, but still supposedly in the same year. Doom (2016) was a cool game and it runs surprisingly well on many PCs. The sequel looks at add some new features, which seems exciting.
Are you planning to get this at launch? What do you think about it? I'm not sure if I'll get it at launch, I might wait. I guess it just depends on what I'm doing or playing at the time.

This will be a launch buy for me. I was so enamored with Doom 2016. Spoiler alert-- it's on my list of the top ten games of the past decade, coming in the next episode of Cheerful Ghost Radio

Awesome! I really enjoyed it, too, more than I thought I would. Since then I've been impressed and surprised to learn just how well it runs on even non-beefy systems. I think that's mostly due to Vulkan.
Vulkan is pretty spectacular. It’s such a huge jump in performance over open GL

I just found an interesting article on GameSpot I wanted to share. It talks about the possibility of adding a female slayer, which I think is interesting. I wonder what a female slayer would look like. However, I really wanted to point to a part at the end of the article that references the release of the second DLC in which it states that "hints from id seem to suggest that it should be coming out in the next few weeks" (in March). I'm looking forward to it. Check out the article here: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/doom-eternal-may-add-female-slayer-to-the-series-in-future/1100-6487908/

In this episode we discuss Valve's announcement that a new Half-Life sequel is coming to VR and the newest addition to Episode IV that makes it a super special edition, Maclunkey! And we talk about what we've been playing and watching over the past month, as is tradition.
Note: In this episode we incorrectly conflate Rob Thomas, the TV producer, and Rob Thomas, the lead singer of Matchbox 20. Apologies to both Rob's.

Just a quick note here to let you know that Warcraft III: Reforged is going to be released on Jan. 28. It's not that far away, yet it feels like it's been a while since we've heard anything about it. I don't recall hearing anything about it at this year's Blizzcon, which comes as a surprise now that we have this release date. Maybe I missed something, after all I was only playing attention to Diablo IV anyway.
You can buy a digital version of the game for $30 (which is $2 per mission) or spend an extra $10 to get some bonus stuff. See the link below for more info.

I'd put this up there as one my favorite games so this is a day one purchase for me. Not sure about pre-ordering but i'll but it when it comes out. I wanted to replay it recently so i'm saving that for this new version.
The pre-order special extra version gives you skins in the Reforged version so I wonder if you can unlock skins or if there is some kind of DLC store for this one? If they go fairly big on multiplayer for this they could be adding a bunch more DLC to help support it post launch.

I can't decide whether or not I'd want to spend the extra $10 for skins. For me, it might not be worth it, because I don't usually play any Blizzard game. Right now my favorite is Diablo (III for me), but I've played it plenty enough and don't have much desire to play it again. So I think it wouldn't be all that worth it to pay extra for skins. As for someone who plays more Blizzard games, I think this could certainly be worth it. Skins are cool. I'm not really against buying them, as long as their inexpensive and worth it. This game is on the more affordable side of gaming now. I can understand why someone would want to pay a little more just to help support a game they love. As for getting it at launch, I might not, because I already have my gaming planned out, which may last into February, March, or later. So, I might wait. If I do wait, I'd certainly be interested in seeing what you or anyone else has to say about it.

Back in 2013 a new Indie game hit Kickstarter that we covered here on Cheerful Ghost called Shovel Knight. We were immediately interested in its hilarious premise and chunky pixel art indie vibe. Back in 2013 a new Indie game hit Kickstarter that we covered here on Cheerful Ghost called Shovel Knight. We were immediately interested in its hilarious premise and chunky pixel art indie vibe. A month after Travis covered the Kickstarter for Shovel Knight we were able to interview Sean at Yacht Club games and it's a piece that I look back and am fairly proud of (interview linked below). Since then Shovel Knight launched to critical acclaim and later saw the base game morph into Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove which is a collection of the base game Shovel of Justice with every other new expansion game such as Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment included. Recently Yacht Club games released the final two pieces to the shovel puzzle in the all new King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown.
Shovel Knight Showdown
"Duel with up to 4 players locally and scramble after gems, or take control of your favorite character and dig into Story Mode! Master every move, explore a vast array of items and locales, and discover new revelations in this platform fighting game. Note: Not available on 3DS or Vita versions."
Shovel Knight Showdown is one of those game modes that didn't seem like something I was going to like until I finally sat down to play it. Frankly I'm not a huge fan of the team battle games such as Smash Brothers so when this game mode was announced I wasn't too excited. That said, Showdown isn't _JUST_ a battle brawler it also adds mechanics to each stage such that to win, you don't need to be the most skilled person at PVP. When I sit down to play Smash Brothers or Street Fighter casually I get wrecked every time because the skill divide between playing a lot and playing a little is huge. Shovel Knight Showdown fixes this by making levels have goals that don't involve fighting. Fighting might help you on the way to a goal but it's possible you could win by avoiding fighting and simply completing the brawl stage objective such as being the first person to collect the required gems.
Pair Shovel Knight Showdown with your Switch or PS4 and a couple friends and this mode seems like an essential part of the Treasure Trove.
King of Cards
"Step into the gilded boots of King Knight in the biggest and most regal Shovel Knight game of them all! Leap, Shoulder Bash, gather new subjects, and strategize your way through this prequel in your quest to become King of Cards!"
Once you get used to how King Knight plays the new campaign and levels of King of Cards are a joy. It took me a few tries to fully understand how to use King Knights jump and Yacht Club's level design does help that learning process quite a bit. That said, passing over some jumps seemed entirely impossible until I had that "ah ha" moment where I figured out to pass over the first level bubbles I had to come at the jump in a certain way to trigger King Knights spin to bounce off the bubble to the other side. I'm not too far in the King Knight campaign to comment on all of it yet but so far it seems like a very worthy addition to Treasure Trove and if you are a Shovel Knight fan entirely essential.
One awesome thing that came from Shovel Knight is the speedrun community and it's been a treat to watch the various speedruns especially at Games Done Quick 2017 and 2019. I hope one of the expansion games is run at GDQ and because of the fun acrobatic gameplay i'd pick King of Cards if I could flag a run i'd love to see in a future event. (Here's hoping for SGDQ 2020!)
Jake Kaufmans Score Is Superb
The original pixel-tune score for Shovel Knight by Jake Kaufman i'd already consider a classic score worthy of some of the best chiptunes i've heard. With each new expansion Jake released an entirely new OST and King of Cards and Showdown were no exception. I think Jake wanted to close the Shovel Trove strong because the King of Cards & Showdown OST runtime clocks in at an hour and a half and contains 50 tracks! I'm including a link to Bandcamp below where you can listen to the whole score and also download it by way of naming the price you feel reflects the albums value to you. I've personally downloaded all Jake's tunes from all the Shovel games and really enjoy it when his songs pop up in my video game playlists.
If you haven't played Shovel Knight the best time to jump in to the Treasure Trove is now as the game is finally complete and contains five total games! If you are interested in having a physical copy Yacht Club has released new versions of Treasure Trove with all the expansions including King of Cards and Showdown on Switch and XBox One as well as digitally on nearly everything else including your toaster*.
I want to send a super special thank you for Yacht Club games for providing me a shiny new Switch key to play Treasure Trove with. They've been a really cool video game company to reach out to over the years in doing an interview back in the day and providing us with more than our fair share of review keys and also making Shovel Knight, a game I know many people on Cheerful Ghost love. It's also fun to see Yacht Club finally close the first chapter of Shovel Knight so strongly. The original Kickstarter lit the indie scene on fire and to wrap things up with two killer expansions is admirable.

New Features Since October We've made quite a few changes since our last State of the Wyvern. You've been playing with them in the game for a while now, but just in case you missed some:
Support / Questions / Bugs: Added a new section for people to find help with questions, support or bug reports.
Bank Interest Change: Hats now effect the interest rate at the bank.
Pumpkin Festival: The Pumpkin Festival is in full swing in Other Places.
Pumpkin Festival Theme: Check out this savory theme now available in user settings.
New Shrine: Added the Wyvernslayer's Shrine to Primrose Park. (The first people to kill the Wyvern 5 times get immortalized for all time in a game)
Wyvern Fights: We now properly rotate the Wyvern fight power in cycles of 5. So the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th power levels wrap around at the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th fights and again ad infinitum!
Wyvern Battle POWER MOVE: You can now hug the Wyvern. (Thanks to Will for this suggestion)
The Leaderboard of the Dead: We now have The Leaderboards of Death in the Graveyard and count player deaths.
Paragon & The Endgame: Every 5th Wyvern kill gets you a paragon coin. Learn more about them and how you can spend them in Helga's.
New monster: Added a new level 1 Monster Annoying Bug.
Daily News: When a player kills the Wyvern we note the kill number in the daily news entry.
Daily News: You can now get a link to an individual piece of daily news to share.
Send Mail More Easily: Added a link to send mail to someone on their profile page. Way less tapping or typing, yay!
Town Square Organization: We've had the classic Town Square menu ordering for quite some time and it's placement didn't quite make sense with what's most important in a game day. We've organized the Town Square to make what you do the most in a game day the most prominent. Hopefully you find this change useful especially on mobile. We also moved Calinda's Hof to Other Places.
The Traveling Gnome Village, December 20 - 27 Just yesterday, someone asked me "When are you going to do something like the Pumpkin Festival again?" Here's your answer: December 20! The Traveling Gnome Village is a new event allows you to visit the Mythical Presents Elf and open presents. These presents could have all kinds of good stuff in them, but truly lucky adventurers will get a full weapon upgrade! It is the season of giving, after all, so you can also send a present to a friend every game day.
Some of you loved the Pumpkin Festival theme, and some are even still using it as their daily driver. With The Traveling Gnome Village, feast your eyes on four new themes that will unlock on 12/20 and remain in the game for those who want to stay in the Gnome Village spirit all year round.
The Turn of the Page, December 29 - January 2 This is a smaller event commemorating the New Year. Enjoy more forest fights, experience gain, and gold find!
Tale of the White Wyvern Season 1! Get ready to dive back in at ground zero with a very different experience! Season games are temporary games that have tweaked rules, and our first season will run January 1, 2020 - March 1, 2020.
This season will have 40 forest fights per day (not including any bonuses), 5 PvP fights per day, and 3000 starting gold. We expect this one will move a bit faster than our main game.
When the season is over, we will commemorate the winners of the Leaderboard of the Dead, the PvP Leaderboard, and the Hall of Honored Adventurers on new shrines in Primrose Park. The game will remain open and can be explored, but the monsters will have left the land. You can still continue your conversations, engage in PvP, and get random forest encounters.
Season 2... We don't have much to say about Season 2 just yet, but it will start shortly after Season 1 ends. We have different game types in mind for seasons, in addition to tweaking the variables mentioned above. One of those is races, where rather than an end date, we have an end goal-- for example, the first person to get 5 wyvern kills wins. In those situations, we'd end the game when that goal is achieved rather than on a timer, but the same rules would apply as for post-game exploration.
Fishing A cool new feature we're working on is Fishing! This will work somewhat similarly to forest fights, in that you have a set number you can do per day. You can fish in a few different areas, and find a wide variety of fish with an equally wide variety of effects, such as extra forest fights or an attack buff. But you won't know what that effect is until you eat it the first time. These effects will be temporary and will expire after the current game day. Some fish won't do much for you, but will sell well, so fishing could be how you make your fortune. Asadi doesn't sell stuff for cheap, right?
We don't have a release window for Fishing yet, but we hope to share more info soon.
Accessibility and clean up Finally, we want to present the best game we can to the widest range of people, and some of our controls are problematic to folks who experience the web via screen readers. We are working to clean that up, and to clean up other minor interface issues that have accumulated over the months.
Thank you! Thank you so much for playing Tale of the White Wyvern! Let us know what you think about the new features, and if you need help we have some threads just for that purpose.

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is coming to theaters December 20th and LucasFilm is in full hype mode. As part of that a brand new featurette is out that focuses on the relationships the cast has built up over 40 years as the series finally comes to an end. This short seems like it would be the kind of thing to hit the special features of a blu-ray release so it's fun to see it now.

I'm imagining an "Emperor Hunters" series, where there's a big industry after RoS, where bounty hunters and assasins have been brought into a new Emperor Hunter Guild.
What if the original incarnation of The Emperor is Elon Musk?
(Because of his battery technology)

ALSO
Kylo Ren was on Mustafar at the beginning of Skywalker, which would have been an incredible thing the movie could have told us.

I kind of assumed it was mustafar and looked it up later.
Also that the scene with the Death Star wreckage wasn’t on the forest moon of Endor, but the ocean moon of Endor.
👍
> I feel it will add to The Last Jedi on future viewings. Especially around Luke's interaction with Rey.
