There have been a lot of retro game re-releases in HD, 4K and some rebuilt from the ground up for modern systems like the new Link's Awakening Switch remake. 3D Realms has partnered up with Voidpoint to release a brand new game using a modern port of the Build Engine which was created in the 90's for games like Duke Nukem 3D and and Shadow Warrior. Ion Fury is a game very faithful to that 90's shooter vibe being that it's using that same tech ported to modern systems. It's a fun way to create something new with the old retro aesthetic and I hope more games like it are created.
LGR recently reviewed Ion Fury and he gave it a rave review!

"While Shelly āBombshellā Harrison earned her codename defusing bombs for the Global Defense Force, when evil transhumanist mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes the members of his cybernetic cult onto the streets of Neo DC, she knows itās time to start causing explosions instead of preventing them.
Her quest to slay Heskel leaves a trail of carnage throughout huge, multi-path levels filled with gigantic explosions, more secret areas than we can count, and inhuman foes behind every corner. Thereās no regenerating health here; stop taking cover and start running and gunning."

Everyone seems to think streaming your games online just like Netflix is just around the corner. With Google Stadia's launch being sometime in November that game streaming future is coming closer but as more details surface some people aren't so excited. It's no secret that Metal Jesus is a huge retro game collector that prefers owning physical copies of games. I'm not as hardcore a collector as Jesus, but my preference is to own a physical game but I do own quite a few games on Steam and other digital stores too. That said, Metal Jesus released a video recently where he talks about why he cancelled his Google Stadia pre-order. It seems his main reason is that the 4K bandwidth use would blow his data cap usage and cause him ISP overages. Frankly playing games all day in 4K streaming from Google Stadia could be a huge problem for people with data caps whereas 1080p compressed YouTube and Netflix isn't as it takes up way less bandwidth.
That said, I really do think the idea of playing your games anywhere regardless of hardware is an extremely compelling concept to people that want to play games and not worry about what they need to buy. Will Google Stadia be ready for everyone at launch? I don't think so but if it comes with a free game I might give it a shot. Frankly my biggest problem in gaming right now isn't that I don't have games to play in an accessible way, it's that I don't have the time to play them. But really, working on Tale of the White Wyvern is just as much fun to in the end, that's not a bad thing.
1. Look at killedbygoogle.com and consider things that donāt pan out get killed. Which is fine, but considering the massive investment required for this, if the service isnāt profitable it will die, and your purchases will be lost forever.
2. This isnāt Netflix for gaming like a lot of people compare it to. Itās more iTunes for gaming. If it was a subscription for a ton of games that I can play whenever I would be all over this honestly.
3. Even if they stay afloat for 50 years, theyāve removed games from peopleās Google Play accounts when they have a dispute with a publisher. You could just lose $60 because your gameās publisher decides to stop selling on Stadia.
4. The any device idea is great until you consider, how the hell are you going to play Rage 2 or something on your phone? Youād at least need a controller and even then, full console/pc games are made to look good and play well on large screens.
5. The one time I could think this would be the most useful is traveling, but what percentage of hotel WiFi youāve used has been decent?
6. You can stream 4K/HDR video on your tv and play a 4K disc, and you can tell a lot of difference in quality. The compression will always introduce some level of quality loss. So youāre always paying for an inferior product.
7. But mostly it all comes down to ownership. You donāt own the hardware or the software with Stadia, youāre just paying for a license to use the software, that Google can revoke at any time. Digital distribution on PC at least has ways around that. Valve has said that in the event that Steam closes down, theyāll provide a way to get your games before it shuts down. Gog games are yours to do whatever with.

All good stuff to consider. Destiny 2 is going free to play at some point and I hope that transfers to Stadia because i'd like to try Stadia for free. Since the HD version will be free, I hope some game comes I can try.
But yeah, all you mention is a good reason to think more about it.
But one thing I neglected to even mention in that comment: Iāve talked myself out of preordering a couple times already. Iām interested in it just from a technical standpoint and cool factor if nothing else.

Yep. Me too. I read something that the free tier won't get any kind of free games so to try it out we'll have to buy one which i'm really hesitant to do. Hopefully they add a free to play game at some point but that wouldn't make Google any money at all.
/shrugs I guess i'll just read the reviews of it at launch.

Mostly so I can try it before I buy anything. I don't get pre-orders for this. You're ordering something brand new, you can't try beforehand that people have done early reviews on where the servers were in the same building. Not like you can go to a store and try Stadia or anything.

If the ports are top notch I can't think of a better way to play these classics if you want to relive them in a new way. Oh and apparently they are being remade for full 1080p and it doesn't look like they are being stretched from 4x3!
This collection can't wait to be King and drops October 29th!
This is an absolute steal for two amazing games (six kinda). The Aladdin SNES game being missing is kinda expected, and welcome. See the awesome Portscenter rundown for more info why: https://youtu.be/gfV-uMoSSPk

Yeah. I have the SNES version but folk consider the Sega version to be superior. I bet it was very hard to get the licenses for all these games. First you need to clear with Disney then each of the development rights holders. A pretty incredible feat.

If you are a Destiny fan and have Destiny 2 on Battle.net you've most likely already linked your Battle.net and Steam account to transfer your game on October 1st. That said, if you picked up Destiny 2 for free on Battle.net you might not have transferred yet and you should because Destiny 2 on PC won't be available on Battle.net for the long haul. Bungie has parted ways with Activision and is now flying solo and migrating to Steam is part of the separation. At some point Destiny 2 is going entirely free to play but if you have any account data in Battle.net now is the time to move it over to Steam.

Nintendo is launching Mario Kart tour on mobile September 25th and pre-order is available. Mario Kart Tour launches on iOS and Android and from some early impressions seems to be a fairly simple take on the Mario Kart formula. Not sure this will replace Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch but if it's fun, i'll play it. These Nintendo mobile free titles haven't been great but if you don't have a modern Nintendo system and don't mind simple fun, they aren't too bad.

I'm checking in kinda late, but Mario Maker 2 seems INSANE. Occasionally I'll check out YouTube videos of levels, and I've seen a working calculator, a 3D maze and a Duck Hunt game. It's so impressive what people have been able to build with this!

Nintendo was at the Gamescom expo this year demoing the Link's Awakening remake and released a new video showing off some all new gameplay footage. The biggest news bit from the video is that not only will you unlock more rooms for the Mario Maker styled Zelda Dungeon maker included BUT as you create and complete dungeons you can unlock more rooms to use to create levels. Match this up with the ability to share your creations with friends and to me this looks like it could be a really cool feature of the game.

The Emperor has some new voice work and what sounds like a taste of Darth Vaders iconic breathing sound. The end of the trailer has had fans guessing what it means as Rey snaps a double-bladed red lightsaber out and looks very ... pro dark side. It's possible this is a vision caused by the Emperor of her dark side ability like we saw in Empire with Luke and the force cave. Or... it's something else entirely.
Rey will get into her dark side attire in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker which comes out on December 20th.
Thereās simultaneously a lot to unpack and not much at the same time.
Is that the first time weāve ever seen saber throw and return in live action?
That city theyāre looking out over looks amazing and I canāt wait to see more of it.
So the red dual saber is absolutely incredible looking. But to finish the series with dark Rey doesnāt make a lot of sense, and they donāt have a lot of time to turn her and turn her back. So Iām betting this is some dark side force trick or a vision (like you mention) or her long lost twin, or clone, or something. That saber seems way too badass to just be used in a vision though.

Yeah! I saw something about "Dark Rey," but didn't see the video until this post. Of course this video just makes us (or at least me) ask more questions, like WTF is up w/ Rey and the dual red light saber, that's a rare weapon in Star Wars and I've never seen one open up like hers did. Red is also primarily the color that the Sith use, because they use fabricated crystals and they make them "bleed." So, does Rey turn to the Dark Side? Does Darth Sidious inhabit Rey in order to come back? And then there's still unanswered questions, like who are Rey's parents? Is she a clone? I saw some where that someone (I think the actress who plays Rey) said that the answer to who her parents are is obvious, but I still feel clueless about that. It was said they were nobodies, but were they really? We do see Rey and Kylo Ren dueling and she has a non-red light saber. So WTF is going on? I guess we'll just have to wait until December to find out.
I really like the idea of Rey with a lightsaber staff (a lightstaff?), since she used a staff back when she was a scavenger. But, I really don't see her going to the dark side completely. She might start turning (under force ghost Darth Sidius's influence), but eventually she'll be swayed back to either the light side, or some sort of grey-middle ground. Likely Kylo Ren will see the error in his ways and be the force that brings her back from the dark side.
No matter what, this is an opening day movie for me!

Adam brings up a good point about the grey-middle ground. I've watched a lot of Star Wars videos on YouTube and supposedly we might see more of that grey area. There are grey Jedi, I believe.
I don't think Rey would go completely to the Dark Side on her own, although Sidius might make her go that way. It's possible she's a clone he created to help give him eternal life. I think I saw at least one theory on that and how Sidius will or could return.
I also forgot about C3PO! Why are his eyes red? Did he join the Dark Side? I did see a video about how he may have been Darth Vader's spy the whole time, even though he probably didn't know it. Also, how come he had a red arm and now he doesn't? I wonder what the story is with that.
Interesting stuff!

Also you can find out about C3POās red arm in a comic about him, and he got his gold arm back by the end of The Force Awakens. Presumably he was just waiting for a replacement protocol droid arm.

What is that isnāt C3PO, but rather Triple Zero?
Wrong body color but Iāve seen some theories that itās triple zeroās ābrainā inside C3PO. Which, if we get Triple Zero dialogue delivered by Anthony Daniels, the rest movie could literally be all the characters kicking rocks and it would be a net positive.

Wow I didn't know who Triple Zero was, thanks for the link Jon! I'd have to watch the video again, but the eyes make me think that that is Triple Zero. Yeah, he had a different body color than C3PO, he was dark silver, but it says, "Aphra, BT-1 and 0-0-0 moved to Vrogas Vas, where Vader and Skywalker had both crashed their ships after a dogfight. While Vader faced an army of Rebels alone, Aphra attempted to capture Skywalker. In order to do this, she painted 0-0-0 with a golden luster to make him look like Luke's protocol droid, C-3PO." So, could it be Triple Zero or did C-3PO get new eyes?

Here's a good break down from a channel I recently found (and watched break downs of other movies): https://youtu.be/Iv-5_cy0ctg
Still, "The Rise of Skywalker," who is that Skywalker? Or are they using it as a general term? I saw some where that Skywalker was a common name in the Star Wars universe like Smith is in ours.
Triple Zero was painted at one point but didnāt remain so. It could be anything but one thing people (me) who want all these expanded characters to show up donāt take into account is the time to explain things. I desperately want Ahsoka to show in a movie for instance, but how do you introduce a character like that to the live action movies without breaking the narrative flow for a bit of a long explanation of who she is? Trip kinda falls into that a bit too. Still more possible than a huge character like Ahsoka but this is a character that is important to comic fans and nobody else, and explaining his relation to the whole narrative would take some time.
I still want it though. š

I'd like to see her, too. I saw her in The Clone Wars.
Yeah, sheās literally my favorite Star Wars character. More than Luke, Han, Rey, Anakin. It feels weird saying that as a 37 year old but her character development went to some crazy places and we were along for the ride and man... I felt that. When she showed up in Rebels I was elated. I canāt wait to see where Filoni takes her next.

I had questions about her. I knew she left the Jedi Order and I wondered if she every met Darth Vader. I decided to look for her on the wiki Jon shared and I got my answers. The wiki page is very long, so I don't know that I'll read all of it right now. But, wow! I remember (from The Clone Wars) now why she left the Jedi Order, though I forgot about it. She died once, but was brought back to life by someone else's sacrifice. She met Darth Vader and it seems she died then, too, but someone went back in time and rescued her.
I actually have a Disney Infinity figure of her really close to me. Vinny got her and some others for that game, but hasn't played it in a while. I do like her, although I don't think I can really rank my favorites among Star Wars characters.
I must admit again that all this talk of Star Wars has seriously peaked my interest in it. I feel like I've become a bigger fan of Star Wars in the last few weeks than I ever have been. I never really considered myself a big fan. I liked it, but wasn't really very passionate about it, but recently that passion has exploded. I actually didn't see the original trilogy until I was in high school. And, again, oddly enough I actually like the prequelogy and Jar Jar.
Forgive me for going slightly off specific topic here. :)
