Greetings, Adventurers and thank you for reading the inaugural edition of The State of the Wyvern. The State of the Wyvern is a periodical that will drop every few weeks that snapshots the state of Tale of the White Wyvern, highlight certain games and player rankings as well as talk about recent changes to the games and our plans. We're also open to hearing what you think about the game as it moves through time so feel free to chip in your thoughts.

I know this is already "aged news" but Quakecon is something fun I watch every year and wanted to share this news drop with y'all.

Apologies, I've been busy with the Tale of the White Wyvern and haven't had a whole lot of extra time to write as much as I'd like.

That all said, if you are a first person shooter fan or just a fan of iD Software and Bethesda you need to clickity clack that play button and let the entirely of the Quakecon keynote envelop your eye holes.

Noteworthy Things

* The Rage 2 free update train is still rolling and out now. If you thought Rage 2 was easy apparently they added a new mode that should make you cry tears of pain.
* Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3... Read All

The Outer Worlds is the upcoming Fallout-like RPG by Obsidian Entertainment and was recently announced as coming to the Switch! This is great news if you want to play The Outer Worlds on the go but Obsidian hasn't said when the game is launching on the Switch only that it would come after the initial launch.

Are you planning on picking up The Outer Worlds and if so does the Switch port change how you might play it?

"Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later than you expected only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony.

I think this was already reported on here during the E3 stuff, but it's come more to my attention due to a friend sharing info with me on Facebook. At first, I ignored this news. I thought it was just for the Switch (which I may still get) and I believed that the Steam version was "remastered." But, it seems I was incorrect (please correct me if I'm wrong). I played it a few years ago on Steam and didn't have a problem with it, it looked fine to me. Although, I must admit, I never really complained about the graphics. I know the non-FMV stuff wasn't perfect, but kind of blocky/not smooth, but that never affected the love I have for this game. Apparently the "remake"... Read All

Anodyne is a 2D Zelda-like that released back in 2013 right at the top of the Indie game craze. After launch it became a Cheerful Ghost favorite and I don't think any game has come out since that has taken a run at the Zelda-like in quite the same way. After Even the Ocean the developers decided to head back to create Anodyne 2: Return to Dust which merges the Playstation & Nintendo 64 era 3D with the original 2D graphics of the original Anodyne. It looks to be the perfect follow up and now will be launching August of 2019 on Mac and PC on Steam.

"Nano Dust infects the islanders of New Theland, distorting their emotions and desires. You play as Nova, a Nano Cleaner... Read All

Summer Games Done Quick 2019 was a great event this year and I'm sticking to my tradition of keeping a list of my favorite speedruns and sharing them with you all. I'll just be posting one more after this so stay tuned.

Super Mario Bros. 2 by coolkid in 23:21 Coolkid had two awesome runs this year and this one was a highlight. I'll share his Mega Man 2 run later as it's one of the first GDQ runs that doesn't feature any zips. That said, this Super Mario 2 run is quite incredible at 23 minutes and Coolkid makes it look effortless.

Half-Minute Hero by dowolf in 23:32 I watched the Half-Minute Hero run the first morning of SGDQ with my family for breakfast. My wife said... Read All

In the past couple years game collecting on classic systems such as the Super Nintendo and NES has been getting steadily more expensive. That said, we seem to have hit some collecting peak as game prices seem to have plateau'd and are coming down a bit. I've seen this in collecting for the DS on a lot of the non collector games you can pickup in box for 5-10 bucks. Metal Jesus has a great video on the subject on starting your video game collection in 2019. It's a useful video for people entering the space and also for folks that want to keep collecting and what to look out for that isn't expensive. As I've said the DS is a great system to collect for now and loose NES... Read All
