"Nano Dust infects the islanders of New Theland, distorting their emotions and desires. You play as Nova, a Nano Cleaner who must explore the island, seeking out the sick and shrinking inside their bodies to suction up the Dust.
Anodyne 2: Return to Dust combines the thrilling scale and cinematic storytelling of 3D games with the tight design and easy-to-pick-up satisfaction of 2D Zelda-like adventures. With art that re-imagines the PS1 and N64 era, explore 3D cities, valleys, and wastelands then shrink into the varied 2D mindscapes of characters, from snowy, aurora-lit valleys to perilous volcanic construction sites!"
Summer Games Done Quick 2019 was a great event this year and I'm sticking to my tradition of keeping a list of my favorite speedruns and sharing them with you all. I'll just be posting one more after this so stay tuned.
Super Mario Bros. 2 by coolkid in 23:21 Coolkid had two awesome runs this year and this one was a highlight. I'll share his Mega Man 2 run later as it's one of the first GDQ runs that doesn't feature any zips. That said, this Super Mario 2 run is quite incredible at 23 minutes and Coolkid makes it look effortless.

Half-Minute Hero by dowolf in 23:32 I watched the Half-Minute Hero run the first morning of SGDQ with my family for breakfast. My wife said that the game was so fast you have to have ADD to make sense of it. By it's nature Half-Minute Hero is a game played in thirty second loops and is also made faster by dowolf's expertise. It's a fun run and considering it's played on a PlaystationTV quite novel.
The Legend of Zelda Randomizer by JamEvil and fcoughlin in 53:26 I love randomizer races and this was the first time I've seen one for the original Legend of Zelda. It's a great race by JamEvil and fcoughlin and one of my most anticipated and I wasn't let down. It's quite the nail biter all the way to the end and both player came very close to each other.
Super Mario World Blind Relay Race by One Tile Men and Lunar Magicians in 54:00 A new Kaizo Mario game was made specifically for SGDQ and run blind by two teams One Tile Men and Lunar Magicians. Both teams are flush with the most talented Mario players such as Barbarian, LaserBelch, PangaeaPanga, Dode, grandpoobear, juzcook, GlitchCat7 and NobleTOFU and watching them in action was one of the coolest Speedrun things I've ever seen. A total must watch.
Gauntlet by digshake and Eunos in 16:12 I really enjoy arcade Gauntlet and have played the NES version a handful of times. The NES version isn't easy but I didn't think too much about it as a kid. Speedrunners digshake and Eunos make quick work of it but even say that you shouldn't play it casually as it's fairly impossible to do so. According to them the most fun to be had on Gauntlet is to learn the speedrunning strats and play it that way and if the run is an indicator, it looks like that's true.
Castlevania (DOS) by LoZCardsfan23 in 15:59 Castlevania is one of the most classic games on the NES and one that is run at darn near each GDQ. This year they ran Castlevania DOS, a version I didn't know existed for one of the most unique runs of the summer. A few things to keep in mind, Castlevania DOS only runs at 6 FPS and if there are too many things on the screen gets quite buggy. That said LoZCardsfan23 does a good job running it and has an interesting couch to back him up.
In the past couple years game collecting on classic systems such as the Super Nintendo and NES has been getting steadily more expensive. That said, we seem to have hit some collecting peak as game prices seem to have plateau'd and are coming down a bit. I've seen this in collecting for the DS on a lot of the non collector games you can pickup in box for 5-10 bucks. Metal Jesus has a great video on the subject on starting your video game collection in 2019. Metal Jesus has a great video on the subject on starting your video game collection in 2019. It's a useful video for people entering the space and also for folks that want to keep collecting and what to look out for that isn't expensive. As I've said the DS is a great system to collect for now and loose NES carts are pretty cheap too. That said if you are collecting for the PS3, XBox, XBox 360 and PS2 there are a ton of games you can get ultra cheap. Lot's of old PS3 and 360 games are selling for a dollar each or less depending so if you want to get a complete collection in box, this seems to be a great time to do that.
One system I've been considering buying for quite some time is the XBox One X. Jesus mentions that it's a great system to play original XBox and 360 games and he doesn't specifically mention this but it also plays 4K Bluray, something I'm quite hip to doing when I get a 4K tv. If you toss in that Apple will be supporting PS4 and XBox One controllers in the upcoming iOS 13 it's an even sweeter deal.
What systems and games have you been collecting for lately? Anything you want a complete collection for? I'm nearly flush on all the Wii U games I wanted and keep adding to my DS library slowly. I have a handful of 3DS games to get yet but after a recent Amazon Prime Day I snacked up a few titles such as Donkey Kong Country Returns for a really great price.

Partnership With Other Players We wanted Tale of the White Wyvern to be a game where people could interact with other players. We enable this through player ladders where everyone can compete on most in game player kills, wyvern kills and more! But competition isn’t the only way to interact with other players as on day one you will be able to have relationships with other players!
Marriage is an interesting feature I’ve long enjoyed in other games and Tale of the White Wyvern will allow players to obtain a in-game legal partnership with another player for a small fee with some pretty interesting daily rewards. When you are in Tale if you enter Calinda’s Hof you can send any player that is not currently partnered a proposal if you pay the 300 gold fee. Currently an in-game partnership comes with a few rewards in an extra 2 forest fights and 10 experience point gain per day. Since Tale of the White Wyvern is an open minded high fantasy sword and magic game anyone can marry anyone in-game and the only thing you need is a willing partner and the ability to pay the licensing fee.
Gems As you fight in the forest you have a random chance to earn gems. If you save your gems you can spend them on interesting things in the game such as stat boosts, level upgrades and the ability to spy on other players. Gem Stat Boosts: If you head to Helga's Potions and Healing, you can trade two gems for a permanent stat boost. Depending on your play style you can trade two gems for 1 Strength Point, 1 Defense Point or 3 Hit Points.
Gem Level Upgrades: Each time you level up at Tarbreth’s Adventurer Training you get a new level upgrade. Level upgrades give your class abilities more power and can give you a class use point increase depending on your class and level. If you decide you want to upgrade your class level and have 6 gems you can do that in Tarbreth’s Adventurer Training. Where to go to obtain the class upgrade for 6 gems depends on your class. If you are Mage you must train at The Magic Room. If you are a Rogue you must speak to Raynard the Fox and if you are a Warrior head to Mead Hall for your upgrade.
Spying on other Players: There is a secret area in the game that all adventurers eventually find where you can spend 2 gems to spy on other players. Each player in Tale of the White Wyvern will have a public profile with information on what noteworthy things that player has done. That said, not all information about each player will be known to everyone so if you want to know what kind of weapon or armor they have and more to scope them out before you attack them in game, you can. You will first need to get to the secret area and spend two gems to find more about the player you want to know about.
Tale of the White Wyvern Will Require a Cheerful Ghost Account to Play If you want to play Tale of the White Wyvern you will need to sign up for a free Cheerful Ghost account. The reason why we are requiring people have a Cheerful Ghost account to play is because we didn’t want to create a bunch of games that had separate authentication to annoy people to remember different usernames and passwords for each game. The cool part is each new game we create can use the same Cheerful Ghost account to make it simple for everyone.
Cheerful Ghost In-Game Member Rewards If you are a Cheerful Ghost Member you will earn special in-game rewards that are special to Members as a thank you for your support. We expect that the in-game rewards will grow over time, but at launch this is what Members will receive:
Two exclusive titles: Ghost Friend and Cheerful Patron.
Access to member only Weapon and Armor sets at King Frosthelm’s Weaponry and Asadi’s Armor. Members will be able to access the secret back room of the weapon and armor shop to buy and sell exclusive weapon and armor sets. I want to stress that these member exclusive weapons and armor are the exact same cost and power level as the normal weapons and armor. We’re just providing custom, cosmetic weapons and armor for Cheerful Ghost supporters.
Hey Greg. I'd love to do a midnight launch but we didn't have that in the plan. Mostly likely we will do that for our next game.
We're planning on Noon PT tomorrow. But that said, I'm hoping to push it live before Noon PT tomorrow and if I do i'll post to the site right away about it.

The rumors about a new Switch version were true! In September, the Switch Lite will be released.
This new model lives up to its name in many ways
It’s light on price, $100 cheaper.
It’s light on features, as it’s portable only, with no TV output.
It’s light on screen real estate, having a slightly smaller screen.
It’s lighter in the literal sense, around 25% weight reduction.
And it’s lighter on battery use, as all these add up to less of a power drain.
This sounds like a perfect entry to the Switch family, an entry level system for people who only want to play it on the go, and don’t want to pay $300.

While I don’t do a lot of portable gaming, I could see myself eventually picking up one of these just for some of the local, multi-Switch multiplayer games.
So what do you think? If you already have a Switch, do you want this? If you don’t, is this an enticing entry to Switch gaming?

I could see getting this for my son if there starts to be a competition for Switch time in my family. I think it will be good for families where there is switch time competition and obviously (based on the video) people in space.
It is interesting to see that they dropped HD rumble support. That would have been cool to keep in, but it probably lets them slim down the switch and increase battery life.
As for no TV output, I can understand that, but store clerks better learn the difference. I can see a lot of people seeing the cheaper price, going for this, and not knowing what it lacks.
Are there games that don't support handheld mode? I haven't run into any. Has anybody run into games that don't support it?

Jon, sounds similar to when the original DS came out. They said there were going to be 3 pillars, but we all know what happened to the gameboy.

Can Nintendo release a left joycon with a d-pad? I like that option on the lite.

YES! I would as well. I get why it’s not like that, for when you’re playing it sideways. But I would truly love that.
I do wonder if they’ve fixed the joycon drift issues for this model, because it’s not like you can just buy some new joycons for this one.
Nintendo's next mobile game, Dr. Mario World, released today!
It's an interesting spin on Dr. Mario, but the premise is still the same. There are germs on the screen that you have to get rid of. You use pills that match the color of the germs to remove them. I somehow doubt the medical accuracy, but it's a fun puzzle game.
Edit: This mini review you’re about to read was written too early. Be sure you read the very end.
I played through 20 levels and it's... pretty good so far. I will keep using it as a time waster but I'm not blown away.

I played through 20 levels and it's... pretty good so far. I will keep using it as a time waster but I'm not blown away.
I have a problem with the touch controls but it's honestly partially on me. You can place the pills anywhere on the board and they'll float upwards. Since you can place them anywhere, why wait? Just put them where you want right? But you can also move them laterally or up, BUT NOT DOWN, while they're out on the board. So what keeps happening to me is, I can't properly see it under my thumb and I put it in the wrong place. About 5 times that's required a restart to even finish the level because it seems like the first few moves are often necessary to get right.
And another problem is a problem I've had with nearly every mobile game. It seems like the majority of your time playing is watching the level loading screens and the success screens because you can't tap to skip through.
A new mechanic that I'm mixed on is choosing your doctor. After a few levels you can choose between Mario, Peach, and Bowser, and each come with their own special power. Which ever one you choose, you're locked in unless you unlock the others (and also non-starter doctors) purely randomly by using the in-game currency. It's a loot box system to unlock characters, and those are always a fan favorite. But as far as I can tell, there aren't any requirements on using different ones, so this doesn't exactly screw up your gameplay but it's something to note.
BUT at its core it still has the Dr. Mario mechanics and premise, with some modern puzzle game mechanics to flesh it out, and that's still fun, usually. But I don't feel a strong drive to play a ton of it. This is a 10 minutes a day kind of game. And honestly that may be a good thing. It doesn't feel like it has the same addictive loop that games like Two Dots and such have. And with Two Dots and basically every other free-to-play cash machine, they had progression halting mechanics that you had to either wait or pay to get through to capitalize on that addictive loop. Edit: Welp. That was a nice thought anyway
So far, I haven't seen anything that could halt your progress like that, however I somewhat expect there to be some powerups that are just *barely* not required to progress. You can buy these powerups with coins you collect in game, but then you have the quandary of grinding the hell out of them or paying real money.
At any rate, this is a much kinder free-to-play model than what you may be used to with other puzzle games, and it's a fun game to fill some time here and there. Twenty levels seems like a lot but it's only a drop in the bucket for what's available, so I don't know how the game might change, but it's definitely worth downloading and trying out.
Edit: Well, they got me. I didn’t notice the heart counter. I ended up on a level in the mid-20s that was giving me some trouble and suddenly I couldn’t play without waiting 30 minutes or paying real money. This is just the same free-to-play-on-our-schedule-unless-you-pay puzzle formula with some Dr. Mario mechanics and a Mushroom Kingdom coat of paint. You may have read my posts or comments here before about this kind of mechanic: when I see a pay or wait blocker, I uninstall. So I have.
Please Nintendo, and other mobile game developers, give me an option to throw you five bucks and not have this stuff happen. I love you and I’ll keep playing Mario Run (yep, I still fire that up occasionally), but this is a big miss for me.
One problem I had with it... their servers went down when I was playing last night and you can't play at all in that case... it actually bounced me out in the middle of a level. It must talk to the servers a lot.

The first few levels are fun but I haven't yet played much more. So far the play style isn't too bad, I kinda miss the match four to knock out the viruses but it's a match three world on mobile.

Super Mario Maker 2 dropped last Friday on the Switch and I'm not going to mince any words, it's one of the best games I've played in years. I don't typically play many video games where I try to fit play sessions in any few minutes block of time I can find during the day, but Super Mario Maker 2 is a perfect game for that. Which is why if I had to rate Super Mario Maker 2 it might get a perfect score. That might sound like hyperbole but the game is firing perfectly on so many levels. It's a game that has creativity as it's signature element as you can create whatever kind of Mario level you want and share them with anyone. That feature alone makes it an incredible game, but Super Mario Maker 2 also includes a fun Single Player mode where you play some of the most creative Mario stages I've seen Nintendo create. For another game the level creation and sharing tools and full single player campaign might be enough but Mario Maker 2 also includes online co-op and head to head multiplayer too! I've played a bit of co-op and while it takes a bit to start a match it's fun playing with other people and I hope to spend more time in this mode. Nintendo has also said that they will bring the ability to play with friends in a later patch and that sounds like an incredible edition to an already amazing game.
As I've said already, Mario Maker 2 might be the perfect game on the Nintendo Switch and right now, it's the top contender for my game of the year.
Let's Share Our Mario Maker Levels
To-date I've created four Mario Maker 2 stages and if you're interested, you should play them.
Bowser's Invitation: (1PP-NGF-VDG) "Bowser's invited you for tea. But what is he really up to?" This was the first Mario Maker 2 level I created and my goal was to learn how to create a level and also make something where you feel like you almost have to brawl Bowser to win. I really love Kaizo Mario levels but wanted to make something that a human could complete, so to me, this feels like a Kaizo Mario level for normal people. It has the lowest clear rate of any of my stages at 4.5%. Not gonna lie, kinda proud of how hard it is but if i'm honest it's really a bunch of hidden blocks positioned to troll the player.
Currently Gills has the World Record with a clear time of 27"337
Mario's Choice: (C4J-PP2-1WG) "What would you do to win?" This level has two paths you can take to complete it. It's a fun one because the whole name of the level and description are a hint to the fastest way to beat it. The current clear rate is 18%.
Currently Wuddle has the World Record with a clear time of 5"417
The Drop: (F3W-Y65-KTG) "Boom BOOM's secret factory has been causing problems. Can you stop him?" The Drop is an idea I've had for some time that was fun to work on but needed a bit more time to bake. I like the early platforming elements and the boom boom fight but the actual drop isn't as interesting as it could have been. This one might be a bit more experimental that I wanted it to be, but I think it's fun which is the point of all of this. The Drop has a clear rate of 45%.
Currently someone with a name entirely in Kanji that I can't easily copy to paste here has the world record of 1'10"721.
Night Time Koopa Shooter: (H89-F13-SGF) "Take Bowser's fire clown car and shoot down as many Koopa's as you can." When I realized Mario Maker has a kind of plane you could fly around and shoot things with I had to make a shooter auto-scroll level. It's a bit short, but I can't wait to see what other kinds of shooter levels people create! After seeing so many people complete The Drop I felt I was getting a bit soft so upped the difficulty of Night Time Koopa Shooter and it has a clear rate of 11%.
Currently SideTilt has the World Record of 29"483.
If you have made any levels, please share them here, I'd love to play and let you know what I think and if you want to do likewise that sounds like fun.
It’s a sky level where you have to hop on enemies and use semi tricky switches to get from the beginning to end. Then very carefully glide for keys. It has a completion rate of about 33% as of last night at least, which is the sweet spot for me.
Just FYI to all you makers out there, you have to get a heart on your level before it will randomly show up for others. So I’ve beeb hearting all of my best friend’s son’s levels even though they’re kinda ... not great. Just because he gets such a kick out of other people playing his stuff.
But that kid beat my level first try 😂
This game is absolutely incredible. It’s rare for a game to take up every waking thought, and I have to work to push that aside to get things done, but when that does happen it’s usually Nintendo. Especially Switch-era Nintendo, I legitimately think they’ve hit a new high point.
I have a LOT of small problems with this game, so so so many. Mostly related to interface/online which is kinda par for the course. But ignoring interface/service issues the game is absolutely perfect. Like, I would change nothing.

Right I can't get better than Travis best time and he has world record first so he's got it. I'd keep running it but I want to ship Tale of the White Wyvern more

This years Summer Games Done Quick came to a close and as they wrapped they did so raising the most amount ever in 3 million dollars for Doctors Without Borders! This was the best SGDQ yet and I really enjoyed all the runs I watched. One of the more impressive runs above is a Blindfolded Punch-Out!! (Wii) by zallard1 in 1:10:21. Zallard is a great Punch-Out runner and the hardest part of the run seems to be the Wii menu blindfolded!
As with previous GDQ's I'm going to wrap up some of the best runs over a few posts to strap in and watch some awesomely quick Speedruns!

Borderlands 2 coop by Amyrlinn, Shockwve and TheFunCannon in 2:48:04: How fast can you run Borderlands 2? Could you do it faster in Co-Op? This is a fun run and is made even more interesting because some Gearbox devs join them.
Metroid by metroidmcfly in 11:26: Metroidmcfly is the best Metroid NES Speedrunner in the world and this SGDQ run in 11:26 shows you why. It's incredibly fast and the couch commentary quite interesting.
