The Vine videos over the past few days were leading up to Shinji Mikami's survival horror game Zwei. Mikami is the creator of Resident Evil, and Zwei is his first project with his new studio, Tango Gameworks, a division of Zenimax.
So mystery solved. It's not a new Elder Scrolls or a new Fallout so stop poring over those videos for hints :)

This wouldn't really be horror survival. More straight horror, like the original RE. People have been screaming for RE to go back to its roots instead of being a Die Hard video game. This could be a chance for the original creator to do justice to the genre. As for the Fallout hopes, it's my favorite franchise as well. That being said, ZeniMax bought out the entire team that was working on Zwei and folded them under Bethesda, so the team that would be making FO4 is still available to do so. There is hope.

As I was perusing the Kickstarter games section I came across a new project called Chasm. Chasm is a retro 2D pixel-art RPG styled after Super Metroid and Diablo. Really though the idea was compelling because we all loved Super Metroid and the mashing that with Diablo sounds epic. And come to find out they also have a Windows, Mac and Linux demo for us to all try. I like this new movement with Kickstart projects to provide a playable demo.
The demo isn't very long but I played it start to finish on my Macbook and it is superb. So great, I plan on doing a Let's Play about it in the next few days. You __REALLY__ should try the demo and consider backing this project. They... Read All

You __REALLY__ should try the demo and consider backing this project. They are currently halfway to their goal and have 23 days left. So all in all, a good chance Chasm will be funded.
But don't take my word for it, check out the demo for yourself and let me know what you think.
I'm in my thirties. I've spent an entire slice of life playing computer/console role playing games. Final Fantasy, Everquest, Dragon Quest, you name it... if there was a way for me to kill a goblin and steal his loot, I was in the line to do it.
Even so, I'm totally burned out on them. Just the mere mention of a vorpal blade which would grant me 10+ attack and 4.5+ critical chance makes me want to turn off the game and never come back. For years, I've been trying to find that spark again, to come upon a game that would make me feel like when I was a kid. And, through an emulated version of a PS2 game, available over the playstation network, I found it.

Persona 3 is not the prettiest of games, not even by its prime time. But even so, the game brings a freshness to the table that I haven't seen in a long, long time. I know a lot of you have played the game a great number of times, but I'm really grateful I never had any contact with it until now; this is exactly what allows me to really appreciate it. I'm going to try to summarize why I think the game is worth a shot, even though it is a little old. Maybe, I can convince some of you to give it a try.
Dating simulation
I assumed the dating simulation aspects of the game would turn me off, but I was really wrong. The insane number of things you can do, and the short time in which you have to do them, really adds flavor and depth. The different life stories of each one of your Social Links (people with whom you have social contact over the in-game months) are fun and unexpected. All your choices in the dating simulation are relevant, since they impact your performance in the dungeon crawling part, so you need to make the best of it.
Pokemon-like
Probably because of my age (and the fact that I don't have kids yet), I never really got into the Pokemon fever. I always heard stories about kids almost crying when they got their hands on some really rare pokemons, but I never felt the same way.
I'm not saying that Persona 3 had the same effect in me, but I think it scratches the same itch - being able to acquire and evolve dozens of mythological creatures (the 'Personas', who give the game its title) is really fun.
Even on the collectible side, the decisions you make in the dating simulation matter; each Persona is influenced by a Tarot card, and each of your Social Links give a bonus to a specific card.
Not Fantasy or 40k
I think that was one of the biggest motives to why I found the game so refreshing. I'm sick of rehashed fantasy / sci-fi games. For each Skyrim, there are dozens of half-baked fantasy simulators, with their own versions of elves, dwarves, orcs, and goblins. When it's not fantasy, it's the classic Warhammer 40k setting, with machine guns and freaking alien clones.
Persona 3 setting have things from both of these settings, but they are just a small part of a overall picture. For anyone who watched a least a bit of japanese anime, the world portrayed in the game is both familiar and strange at the same time. The mix of school-life and occult/horror is well executed and vibrant.
Hardcore, but with a heart
Various small quirks that I see in classic RPG games are solved in an elegant way in Persona 3. Not being able to save often, for example - if you are outside a battle, you can usually find yourself back to a save point really quickly. The game is still pretty unforgiving, so be prepared to die a lot. Even so, it never becomes dull; there's always something about to happen, and always a carrot for your to follow.
In conclusion
If you like role playing video games, but are tired of play variations of the same game, do yourself a favor and find a way to play Persona 3, or even Persona 4.
These two games are available for various consoles, and an extended and remastered version of Persona 4 was just released for Vita, with glowing reviews.
Don't even think twice about it, just play the freaking game.
Perhaps I should try this. I've found myself in the same boat as you lately. JRPG's (though that genre is getting harder to define) just don't hold my interest the way they should. I tried to replay one recently and some of the core mechanics just annoyed me to no end.
I've heard some good things about the series, and that it really kinda creates its own genre, and based on what you're saying that's true.
While I've never completed a Persona game (or any of the Shin Megami games, for that matter), I'm a huge fan of the gameplay and style. I think I've started Persona 3 five different times, just to revisit the soundtrack! That and the artwork; I love, love, love Soejima's artwork. I agree with caffo, these are great games, and worth your time. The combat can be a little repetitive; fairly standard turn-based attacks, spells are cast through your Persona, but gathering and "upgrading" the Personas (almost like spell forging) can be quite fun. Building Social Links is more than just dating simulation, but it has some of those aspects (when communicating with certain characters).
I'd personally recommend Persona 3 FES for Ps2 rather than the portable version for PSP/Vita, as the mobile version doesn't have the beautifully animated cut-scenes or the freedom of movement around the environments.

The final issue sent to print/digital subscribers will be the June/July 2013 issue. We plan to close the digital editions of the magazine shortly after that. But for those who enjoy reading the magazine in a digital format, previous issues of Game Developer will also be posted as .PDFs in a special section on GDC Vault, to open this summer.
Yeah, many print publications are shutting down to operating costs and such. It is sad. Nintendo Power shut down not too long ago and I was pretty bummed about it.
Awesome they are making all the old issues available for download. I would have bought a Nintendo Power issues pack digitally as PDF's if they did that. Totally worth it for historical radness alone.

He is looking forward to a few month period with Rebirth where there is mystery to the game and everyone doesn't know what everything does.
Edmund wants to incentivize people moving through the levels quickly with certain rewards.
A ton more..
Seems like we have a ways to go for this to finally release, but when it does it will be a day one purchase!

Oh man, first, thank you and rock on! Second, I'll figure out my steam account :)

Not sure what happened. It looks like Jon, Adym, and I all had Steam issues all at the same time. Not sure about Scrypt. I can't connect to Steam from any PC, even after rebooting my network equipment.
But this game is fun! It was just the kind of mayhem I had expected. There are some flaws, but I'm impressed for $10.
This might sound a little weird, but it reminds me a of co-op play in Too Human.

I played the demo for Too Human and was really unimpressed. I think it was the control scheme mostly, but it just seemed like a bunch of interesting ideas that were thrown into a pot to stew but were taken off the stove before they were done.
Once I got the hang of the design of the flow of combat, it quickly became one of my favorite games. It's seems sloppy at first, but it really is a pretty fluid system. I think God Mode reminds me of Too Human mostly in spirit, as opposed to actual game play. The frenetic movement and dispatching of enemies forces you to move in a sort of massacre ballet. Plus, I can't stop saying "God Mode."
Nintendo Direct has revealed a lot of new information. Some of it quite interesting. To be honest, I was pretty uninterested in the Wii U and 3DS until hearing some of this news, and now I'm pretty excited. I think based on these announcements I may make the jump on at least a 3DS.
First, most importantly to me, a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is coming to the 3DS this year! A Link to the Past is my favorite entry in the series, though that may be pure nostalgia. I haven't played it since the SNES was still considered current-gen. Still, this sequel looks interesting and I hope to get my hands on it.

A new Yoshi's Island will also be coming to the 3DS this year. Yoshi's Island was one of the best and most frustrating games for the SNES (Waaah! Waaaah! Waaah!). Hopefully they make the baby crying sounds a little less annoying.
Earthbound will be released on the Virtual Console, probably by the end of the year.
Pikmin 3 is arriving for the Wii U in August.
New Super Luigi U is a DLC pack coming to New Super Mario Bros U later this year.
There are many more announcements, and many more reasons to get interested in platforms you may have had no plans for. The PA Report has the full list:
After watching this Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft narrated battle play out I am much more interested in this games release. Since it will be free to play, the barrier to entry is pretty low and I am curious to see how this will play on the PC and iPad.
I really likens the back and forth between the players and its different enough from Magic The Gathering to be compelling. I wasn't sure based on that video when its ok to target minions VS players though. Hopefully the game comes with a fairly length tutorial.
Will you check out Heroes of Warcraft when it launches?

Some barbed wire, an old document, a spinning record, some geiger-counter or record scratching sounds. What does it all mean?
This is probably the first time a game has been teased via a 6-second video loop on a hip new social network.

Well BR, you can be happy with the knowledge that they've apparently scouted MIT. Remember all the stuff from Fallout 3 about "The Institute" with the android?
I really wish it was a Fallout game though. I wonder if its a new Elder Scrolls game? Might not make sense considering Elder Scrolls Online is coming out this year.

I would highly doubt they're ready to announce a new Elder Scrolls. There's been around five years between each one since Daggerfall. They definitely take their time.
Still have no clue what this is, but I'm curious why the loop begins and ends with the barbed wire. Why not just end the clip at the shots of Bach, then let it loop?
BOOOOOO I WANTED FALLOUT 4
Well crap. Survival horror is my least favorite type of game, so I'll likely be skipping this one.
I actually love Survival Horror but Fallout is my favorite game series of all time. But it's not like FO4 isn't coming, so I'll just chill.
Its a bit anti-climactic for me too. I am sure Zwei will be good and they really did achieve a good amount of buzz about it, so mission accomplished.
But yeah, id rather have Fallout 4 too.
I think most people can agree fallout 4 would've been better. :/
