Atomhawk does beautiful work (I started learning how to digitally paint based off of Charlie Bowater's tutorials), and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Thanks for sharing this! So many good things coming out lately, it's hard to keep up!

Yeah it is hard to sift through the new rad, I agree.

Usually I'm not embarrassed or shy about the games that I play. But I picked up Candy Crush Saga for my iPhone and... well... yeah. This.

My wife has been playing it as well, but she stopped when it started putting up paywalls. One of my friends is really quite hooked. I refuse to touch it for those reasons.
"I am going to find something more productive to do with me time... What is Smack?"
HAHAHHA. Seriously downloaded it on my Phone. Goodbye life, GOODBYE DREAMS!

I've been playing Candy Crush Saga for a while now. I thought it was cool because I love Bejeweled, but this game seems to add a new level to the kind of genre of the two. It is more challenging, which can be fun and frustrating. There is one level I spent so very long trying to pass and I was glad that I finally finished it.
It's ok. Mostly it doesn't hold my interest very long. Some with most mobile games. I love puzzle games but the whole "waiting game social thing" doesn't seem to be my bag.

Heh. I remember I was wrestling with one level that had a lot of bullshit in it (they stop even pretending to give fucks after about level 250 or so), and I was really close to beating it, then I lost and got really kinda... morose, I guess? I just wanted to be *done* with that level.
Then, I found an *awesome* cheat code for the game! Here's how you do it: hit the home button once, then hold the home button down, and when the Candy Crush starts wiggling you hit the little "x" in the top corner. Bam! You're now done with all of the levels.

I can't wait, but I really hope this releases with a few months to spare before the Starbound beta, because I don't want them to be competitors in the 2D sandbox world-building genre.
This new art looks quite good. The new art here really looks like it fits with the Terraria style, one thing I was nervous about as a new artist to the project might not keep to the rift style.
Lately the only games I have been playing are Link to the Past and Legend of Dungeon. Both very fun and I want to try my hand at the new winter Terraria stuff. I just got the idea to do a Santa's Village kind of motif. Totally awesome. Maybe see about hacking a map to be all winter and then running a special Terraria Santa's Village server round the holidays.

Gabe Newell recently gave out his Steam username and password to showcase Valve's latest identity protection. Gaben's password is moolyftw and I am wondering how many people have tried to access his account since he published it?
Space Whale: Whale From Outerspace wins the award for the coolest space name. Never realised I wanted to play as a space whale until now.
Interesting new video making the rounds about someone who played 365 indie games in a year. After watching it briefly I now realize how many games are made I don't even know about.

I know that their old security was pretty shit considering I had my account hacked one time. I got it back though through their great costumer service.
Hopefully this new security is good and I won't ever have to go through that again.

Legend of Dungeon is fun new rogue-like that was recently released on the Humble Store. I picked it up and was instantly taken with its unique look and fun gameplay. It is in my "regular rotation" of games I am currently playing and I can say that, for me, it works flawlessly on Mac and Linux(so far I haven't actually played it on PC). I reached out to Alix Stolzer, one half the amazing Robot Loves Kitty Indie duo that created Legend of Dungeon and other lovely games such as Tiny Plumbers.

I reached out to Alix Stolzer, one half the amazing Robot Loves Kitty Indie duo that created Legend of Dungeon and other lovely games such as Tiny Plumbers.
Since I sent out the questions to Alix, Legend of Dungeon has been successfully Greenlit on Steam and the game has continued on to garner more fans and positive reviews. I want to thank Alix for answering my questions and wish them to a speedy final game launch.
jdodson: Legend of Dungeon is a very pretty game. One thing that visually stands out to me are the shadow effects and how that allows the game such a dark and moody tone. Was this something you set out to do or did it kind of emerge when you were developing it?
Alix: The Dynamic shading on flat sprites was one of the first things we did. It was a technique that Calvin had been curious to try, and we loved the way it turned out.
jdodson: Indie Games are blowing up the video game industry right now. In fact, I canāt think of an upcoming triple A game on my radar. Being part of the current craze of Indie awesomeness I wonder how you look at the video game industry today? With that, are there any new indie games or companies on your radar others should be aware of?
Alix: We really enjoy the creativity and curiosity you see from a lot of indies, and the passion for creating worlds for others to play in. Some games/devs that we are looking forward to that are newer and less out there are Artemis by Incandescent Workshop, Delver's Drop by Pixelscopic, Mc Droid by Elefantopia, and Starseed Pilgrim by Droqen.
jdodson: For people new to Legend of Dungeon, I wonder what you recommend for them to do or remember when they are winding through the depths of The Dungeon?
Alix: Don't forget the lantern in the tavern, and enjoy your unfortunate but inevitable deaths (you will have lots of them)!!
Enjoy the journey enough that when you die, you laugh, and try again :)
jdodson: How has the community response to Legend of Dungeon been since people have been playing it? Anything surprise you about how the game has been received?
Alix: We have been completely amazed by the response we've gotten, and we feel like we've gained a bunch of friends!
jdodson: I was listening to an interview you both were part of on YouTube by thekillerbits. Calvin mentioned that one inspiration for Legend of Dungeon was the olā Ninja Turtles arcade hack-n-slash, which is awesome because thats an awesome game. Recently I hooked up Legend of Dungeon to my TV and was playing with a friend using our USB controllers and it was really fun. I sort of died really quickly because I was trying to be funny and ended up as a ghost, which was cool. After collecting a few pellets I came back with 1 HP. It was really hard to get back into the game after that and kept dying. For people that may just want to play with their friends who are not pros themselves, will there possibly be a āpress start to continueā akin to putting another quarter in the arcade machine and your player comes back with full life?
Alix: An actual arcade style "____ to continue" version would be really cool, but it would ruin the game in a lot of ways unfortunately, especially the fact that it would be making it beatable every time you play. We are only in Alpha and still balancing things, hopefully we'll end up with a death system that makes most people happy.
jdodson: I love the dwarf and would love playing that character in the game. Will the Dwarf be available at some point to play?
Alix: We think the dwarf is great, but so far we don't have any way of using him as a character. The dwarf is too small! We'd love to have him do something more in the game, so we'll see!
jdodson: The current version of the game I am playing is the Alpha. It seems really polished for an alpha and I wonder what other amazingness will be added before the beta and the final release?
Alix: We have a ton more items and monsters to add, we need to also put in the random NPC's you might meet on your journey. We are getting close to Beta though, it shouldn't be long now!
jdodson: I wonder what the most requested set of features people have been asking you add to Legend of Dungeon?
Alix: The most asked for thing is definitely Networking. it means that we have a game that people want to play together, which is really exciting for us. It's something we just can't add to the game at this stage in development.
jdodson: Legend of Dungeon was successfully Kickstarted and as such I am wondering if you guys will be Kickstarting all your future games as part of the release process? Do you think this is the new model for indie developers to get a game to fans or just something people are doing right now?
Alix: It helped us understand how people would think of our game while it was in early development, and we loved getting all the input from backers. The freedom of funding our own projects is also very nice. So I think it's a very good way for many indies to get a better understanding of the market and we are definitely thinking about using it again.
jdodson: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, do you have any other awesomeness you want to say before we wrap things up?
Alix: It's been an amazing process, having a game that has become something so big, when it started out as a small side project that we didn't know anyone would like.
Thanks so much for all the questions!
jdodson: (to you the reader) This morning I noticed a new bit of news that Robot Loves Kitty posted to their tumblr about the state of the game making its way to steam. According to them, the game will most likely be released on Steam during the beta or final versions of the game.
Ok, so I haven't bought an Indie Royale bundle in a while, but this one is great -- a set of Steam Greenlight games that are all crazy and look really fun (for < $5 the price can't be beat)

To be fair, the new television show Defiance seems like exactly my cup of tea. Dystopian America? Check. Aliens? Check. Created by the guy responsible for Farscape? Hells yeah. Upon watching the Pilot, I kind of feel like someone jumped into my brain and made a show pieced together from everything I grew up on.
I had the pleasure of taking part in the Beta for the game version of Defiance. I walked away from it not overwhelmed, but sufficiently impressed. On PC, it seems to simply be another offering in the somewhat over-saturated MMO market, offering aliens and assault rifles in place of ogres and swords. Where it seems to shine, on the other hand, is in the fact that is not PC exclusive. Console MMO gaming is, admittedly, a bit of an anemic genre, with (on PS3 at least) only a handful of offerings, such as DC Universe Online and FreeRealms, both F2P, and sadly it shows.
I am no stranger to the MMO. Like many of you, I had my phase of WoW addiction, and am no stranger to Guild Wars or even Everquest (For those of you just joining us in the genre, Everquest was the digital equivalent of cocaine back in the day. Then World of WarCrack came out, and it sadly was never the same.) So far, Defiance seems to be able to stand on it's own two legs as an MMO offering, and it gives some insight as to how a Borderlands MMO would feel. Like many others, there were some hiccups in the early days, but that is nothing new to the genre, and network errors seem to have worked themselves out.
I find myself a fan of both aspects of this unique concept. The show is one giant ball of my nerdy obsessions, and the game is a solid offering, though maybe not the very best out there. However, I find myself wondering how these two aspects will end up blending. Will it be Chocolate and Peanut Butter, with two great tastes that taste good together? Or are we looking at salsa and ice cream, with two great things that might just make you sick if you blend them?
It seems a smart idea to set the two aspects in different parts of the same world, given the fact that the live-action television show has to be recorded months in advance, and can't exactly turn on a dime if something goes unexpected in the game. This separation, though, is exactly what worries me. Defiance was touted as an all-encompassing experience. It's a game you can watch! It's a show you can play! Given the story we have so far, though, there is a bit of room to worry about how well these aspects will blend. Defiance, which has set up roots in what was once St. Louis, Missouri, stands as an independent city-state, free of government any higher than the town's mayor. It seems a bit like this may be the norm for much of the country, if not the world. The show seems to be mostly confined to the (quite literal) bubble cast around this city.
Early advertising made large promises, telling us that how we played the game will affect what we see on the show. From the get-go, this seems like the concept of the show is a choose-your-own adventure book, with the MMO acting as the options on the bottom of the page, to see where your options lead you. While it is still a bit too early to tell, I'm starting to get the idea that the 'interactivity' between them may be guest characters from the show popping up in the game, or a passing line of dialogue in the show that a handful of players will collective go "Hey! I got that reference!"
I will keep an open mind, but I am sufficiently worried that the biggest, coolest aspect of the show/game hybrid may very well go the way of the Virtual Boy, with a lot of money going to a half-baked concept. Regardless, both aspects seem to be sufficiently awesome if consumed separately. I feel like, even if the cross-media interactivity bombs, each individual aspect is string enough to stand on its own. Still, it would be fantastic to hear Julie Benz make a moving speech about the heroes of the latest battle of San Francisco, AssBlaster69 and DirtyDirtySanchez...
I just want to hear Julie Benz say "ass blaster" personally. That would be sufficiently hilarious.
How is she on the show? I know her from Buffy/Angel and Dexter, and both of those characters were, to some extent, meant to be hated. I kinda felt like she could do a badass hero or just an all around good character quite well, but we never got to see that.
Also, which platform did you play this on? You discussed the PC/Console differences but didn't mention which one you played it on.

I played the beta on both PC and PS3. PS3 was a pretty smooth experience, and PC always seemed to have a hard time staying connected.
She plays a politician, which kinda goes with the whole hated thing. Though her character is kind of a badass, If nothing else, she's sassy enough to suggest that the main character, in need of some quick cash, look for employment at the local brothel...

The original idea of Cheerful Ghost was simply a way to share your list of games with the world. As the idea evolved it became a place to tie all conversations about games together. It also started becoming more of an awesome game community and it evolved to what it is today.

You can change the platform as well and it auto-saves too. Magical.
I added a new search filter, so if you button up your games list you can do some awesome stuff like share with your friends you wishlist, backlog and games completed.
In my latest Lets Play I tackle the Kickstarter Beta for Chasm. I also dial it up a notch by doing some on-the-fly in game voice dialog for the NPC's*.
The Chasm demo isn't very long but paints a good picture of how well polished the game is and what we can expect when it ships.
