So far i've thought the X-Men films have been pretty good. I still haven't seen X-Men Apocalypse yet and so far i've heard mixed reviews about it. Days of Future Past and the Rogue Cut were great films so I have high hopes for Apocalypse. I've played almost every FF game there is, with only a few exceptions. I have almost every one of them and I even multiple copies of some of them since they were released on different systems. So a while ago, I decided to start getting them on Steam. What I love about the Steam versions is that they've received graphical upgrades and have a variety of new features.

It wasn't long after I finished FFIX on Steam that FFX/X-2 HD Remaster came out, which was much sooner than I had expected. I jumped at it and into it right away. I've played both games a few times on the PS2 and really enjoyed them.

Steam says I've spent 157 hours playing it and that's just on FFX. I remember how easy it was to spend 100 hours on the original version. This time, there was more to do, since this is the International version. That means you can choose between the Original and “Arranged” soundtrack. I've heard the Original plenty of times, so I thought I'd try out the Arranged. It definitely seemed to have a much higher quality to it.

You can also choose between the Normal and Expert Sphere Grids. From what I read, it's easier to max out your stats on the normal one. So, I went with what I was familiar with. I did try out the expert one when I created a new game to go back and get some Al Bhed Primers I missed out on the first time. It definitely seemed smaller.

The International version also includes Dark Aeons. These are super versions of Aeons, which are very difficult to beat without Yojimbo's Zanmato move or a completely filled in Sphere Grid. After defeating all of them, a new super boss appears, which is very difficult even with a completely filled in Sphere Grid and using the cheat features.

New features also include tools to cheat like giving yourself maximum Gil, unlocking all skills, enabling “super charged” characters, changing the frequency of encounters and more. While I hesitated to use these at all, I found a lot of the extra end-game things extremely difficult to do without using them. They did make things easier and more fun.

FFX is the only game I have on Steam that I've unlocked every achievement for, which is quite a task, but I enjoyed it.

So how many Final Fantasy games do you have on Steam now?

I know sometimes replays don't always compare to your original time playing a game but do you generally enjoy playing them on PC more? I like playing FF games with a controller and have really enjoyed playing FFVI on my handheld during my recent play through.

Yes, sir! There are 34 of them for FFX, 69 in total, so the rest should be for FFX-2.

I have FFV, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X/X-2 on Steam. I haven't bought FFIV yet, obviously, but I want it. I don't know that I'll get FFXIII. I already have those games on the PS3. It's tempting though, since I enjoy playing these games on my PC.

My original enjoyment of playing them was fantastic. Replaying their PC versions has been just as wonderful, if not more so. I love that I've been able to use the XBox 360 controller that I bought specifically for PC gaming. I've also enjoyed updated graphics and those new "cheaty" tools. :)

I think I may wait for FFXV to come out on Steam along with FFVII: Remake, assuming they're both coming, instead of buying a PS4 for them.

There are still a few Squaresoft/Square-Enix games I can think of that I want to come to Steam, Chrono Cross is one of them.

Oh and I didn't really notice the graphical update for FFX. I thought it looked great, like the original, but then I found that video I shared in this post and realized how bad the original is in comparison.

I have the ffx remastered version for ps3 but didn't really get into it. I've beaten everything on the ps2 version which was a feat I don't think I'll repeat. I don't remember what it's called, bit the arena monster generator thing took a long time to collect all the kills and the final boss from that was a pain! Definitely a challenge comparable to the ffvii weapons.

I'd love a chrono cross hd remake tho!!

Also, I'm probably going to pre-order ffxv soon, it looks pretty solid

Yeah, I thought about getting it for the PS3, but I hesitated. I did the monster arena this time, including fighting all of them. It was tough, I ended up using the cheat features in the Steam version to help. But yeah, some of the sidequests, especially for collecting what you need for the ultimate weapons, are very difficult and frustrating.

I haven't beaten any of FFVII's optional Weapon bosses. That game on Steam also has cheat tools. I'm tempted to go back to one of my saved games and try to get some more of those achievements as well.

Yeah FFXV looks awesome from what I've seen and read about it.

Mods, cheats and the like are what make PC gaming shine. Also having access to your games when you upgrade is also magic.

Thanks Greg, glad you are enjoying playing these games again. I wonder how much money Square is making off these remakes, they seem crazy popular.

Launching originally as a browser exclusive, Card Hunter was a popular game with users on Cheerful Ghost when it was in early beta. Hero Quest is an amazing board game I played in High School that is simple enough to understand yet deep enough to make you feel like you are adventuring through a fantasy world. Hero Quest is also one of the best Milton Bradley games i've ever played and it's a crime it was never re-released. People have compared Card Hunter to Hearthstone or Magic The Gathering and I don't find that an accurate comparison. I would say as Hearthstone(digital) is to Magic the Gathering(physical game), Card Hunter is to games like Hero Quest or Dungeons and Dragons Wrath of Ashardalon.

In Card Hunter you make your way through adventures that earn you loot and treasure. Treasure can be sold and loot can be used to upgrade your characters abilities. Like other freemium games, Card Hunter has a fair amount of stuff available for free or you can pay to access more features. The game doesn't seem pay to win and I didn't find anything impossibly difficult to beat with the stuff I could find grinding through dungeons.

At a certain point the difficulty ramps up and you need to spend a fair amount of time considering the best way to beat certain levels. I really enjoy that Card Hunter requires you to learn better strategy than simply upgrading your armor and weapons to complete levels. Don't get me wrong, upgrades are nice but I found that a better strategy was more help than better weapon or armor.

Since it's a browser game you don't need a power house gaming rig to play this on PC, Mac or any ol' web browser. If you are looking for a table-top inspired game that you can pickup and play for free Card Hunter is something you should try.

Build This Double Old God Deck For Double The Fun

Kripp has published a couple of his decks after Whispers of the Old Gods launched and I wanted to share one I really enjoy playing with. I made quite a few changes to this deck to combat aggro and zoo in that I replaced Sap, Thalnos & Xaril with Eviscerate and Beckoner of Evil(I also don't currently own Xaril, or else I'd run her in my deck). I also replaced Loot Hoarder with Undercity Huckster as they trade a bit better with early game at 2/2 and get you the draw you need off your opponent instead of drawing from your deck.

This is a very fun deck to play if you have the cards for it and since it contains two old Golds that raises the win conditions considerably.... Read All

(Quantum) Breaking the norm.

For all the mixed reviews it got, Quantum Break aimed to make use of Microsoft's original vision of the X1. Combining games with other forms of media. Quantum Break is an interesting game that seems to be lauded by some and critically panned by others. It reminds me of older Phillips CDI games with live footage mixed with gameplay. QB seems to do that all better, but it's a kind of genre I haven't gotten into beyond the camp affinity I have for Sewer Shark or Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. And truth be told, I haven't played those games either but I sort of appreciate them and how they sit in the retro community.

I hadn't really heard much about this so I looked it up. After seeing the cast I'm disappointed that the show never happened!

This is something I'm not willing to gamble on at $60, but it looks intriguing enough to buy it when the price drops or there's a sale. Unfortunately, it's not on Steam (only the Microsoft store) so it's not as likely to get deep discounts as frequently.

That's true. but E3 and the Summer Sale are just around the corner, so keep your eye out! The show is embedded in the game, and happens at the end of each chapter. It changes slightly based on your decisions, which is pretty cool. Originally, the show (from my understanding) was going to happen based on the most popular outcomes of each chapter, which would have been pretty cool, but I like how they did it instead. You can steam them, or you can download a free 75GB episode pack, which includes all outcomes and choices so you can view them offline.

Couple things. First off, this game is really interesting. Devolver Digital is one of the best Indie publishers around and they keep finding these really cool games to publish. It's really pretty impressive. Secondly I like the idea of a different kind of brawler but i'm not entirely sure what kind of gameplay this would be. That said, I am also wondering in what way the online is required for the game? I guess maybe I just want to know a heck of a lot more

I wonder if anyone in the game can choose to take off the mask?

It appears that the online requirement is for co-op gameplay, as well as the PvP stuff. Specifically how that's going to play out is an interesting question, indeed. Will it be like the Souls games, where you can invade other people's environment? Maybe more like Destiny, where you might find yourself in the same play space as another player? The copy on the site alludes to instances of questioning the intent of the players you meet. Will they be friend or foe? I'm with you, Jon. I want to see how deep they take it.

Didn't We All Want To Play The New Doom In The Old Doom?

Doom modders are bringing back the gameplay, maps and guns from the new Doom to the... original 1993 version. I love these sorts of demakes and in this case it's a demake of a reboot to get back to the roots of the original which is now becoming the reboot.... or something. Regardless these kinds of projects make the amazing aspects of the mod community shine.
