Notch recently released a demo video of Mojang's upcoming game 0x10c. If you are wondering how to pronounce the name, Notch explains it like this: "I say 'ten to the see', but people can pronounce it however they want." 0x10c is interesting as what I gather from "teh intarwebs" it will include engineering, space battles, seamless space-to-planet transitions, mining and trading, and an open universe with both single and multi-player modes.
The trailer shows Notch running around the area, bobbing around as the player walks around. The bullets emit light which is a nice effect and the light hanging from the ceiling bobs around a bit when things happen to the environment.

I am interested in a modern space sandbox game. Back in the BBS days of yore I was addicted to Tradewars and that was fairly open and allowed you do much in the world. If 0x10c is Tradewars mixed with Minecraft I can't imagine ill ever get my life back.
Oh my god. Star wars. Someone make star wars battlefront 3 with this.

If I had to guess i'd say LucasArts is working on a Star Wars Battlefront 3. I mean, if they are not they need to get on that because it would be epic.
Well. There was light speculation that they might have hired a new team to pick it up again. But if anything that is a very small faint glimmer of hope from people seriously dieing to play it. The only for sure thing is that if their new game coming out doesn't sell well. I don't think we will ever see a new battlefront.
I'd rather see this become a sandbox space type game. There aren't many of them out there and I think they are some of the best games. I would like to see Lucas Arts grow a brain and make battlefront 3 though.
Well you don't have to see it become a sandbox space type game. It already is one haha. But the modding community for minecraft is really strong so hopefully they make some alternative ways to play as well. Ala star wars. More of an additional feature. Although i do love space trading games as well...and then there's freelancer.
I was introduced to the series at a young age. Before the age of online reviews and news about games everywhere. This allowed me to enjoy it for all that it is. PS. Sorry Natsume and Rising Star do not make good trailers of the series. So the video is Japanese. However the games are not and if your interested go search for more gameplay videos.
I'm a big fan of Harvest Moon 64, which was actually the first HM game I played. Since then I've tried A wonderful Life which I was not so much a fan of (I should note that I had the PS2 "special edition" which was marred by some pretty bad frame rate issues). I also tried Innocent Life, which was just terrible. I really would like to find another, good Harvest moon game though. Were there any other HM games that were similar to HM64 that you could recommend?
Thanks jon. I see your problem there white. I tried the same. I had played A wonderful life on gamecube then tried to play it on ps2 later when i wanted to finish it. It was horrible to say the least. Innocent Life I don't even know what to say about that one. I put way to many hours into it hoping it would get better. Worst harvest moon ever.
If you want HM64 sequels: Back To Nature(girl version I THINK), ps1 Friends Of Mineral Town GBA More Friends of Mineral Town GBA Harvest Moon DS v1.1 Island of Happiness DS Sunshine Islands DS
Alright so let me break it down FoMT. (see above) Is a lot of peoples favorite. It's not as advanced as some of the later games though but, has longevity and is great fun. Harvest Moon DS is plagued by bugs even the 1.1 version. However if you can get past the bugs the game would actually be enjoyable. Island of Happiness is kind of hapazard with controls and more for harvest moon veterans who want a challenge. Sunshine Islands to me is really great. More to offer then friends of mineral town. A new cast of characters unlike the other sequels with the old ones returning but not eligible for marriage. It's a direct sequel to Island of Happiness and is quite a bit easier with better controls.
I'll make a part 2 post about good ones in general
Alright, I haven't played any since the SNES. How have they held up? I remember it being really fun but I always felt really constricted by the time limit.
Well the snes era of harvest moon doesn't really hold up to the test of time. Not nearly as refined as the newer editions. Harvest moon 64 is the first one that was able to remain great no matter how much time has gone by. If you haven't even tried that one. You definitely are going to want to play that one. If you would like MORE time in your days go ahead and try animal parade on wii. That one gives you lots of time. I love it. Tale of Two Towns is the opposite. Time goes by in the menus and in buildings making the days go by staggeringly fast. I found it hard to keep up with but my other friends didn't have any trouble.
Ya, I'm slow. Animal parade it is. In a game like Harvest Moon, I want to take my time, water every last plant, and never fell like time is running by.
Hope you have fun with it. A good plan of action though when playing. Is to sort of plan out your day. As your in a building time never goes by. So now you have got time to think of whether you want to go mining for the day or tree chopping. Or just try and give gifts to everyone. Trying to do everything in one day is less of a time constraint then an energy constraint. Unless you have got tons of food to chow down regularly to keep the energy level up.
One of the reasons I really liked the N64 Harvest Moon better than the (admittedly small selection of) other Harvest Moon games is that the pacing felt really nice. Indoor activities like feeding/tending to your animals or shopping in the village, gave you time to plan out your outdoor stuff, like gardening or fishing. The days were just long enough that if you wanted to cram in almost everything you could, but short enough to keep the everything moving along so you saw the results of your labor (plants growing, cash from foraging) quickly.
I agree with all of that as well, although...to say Harvest Moon has a small selection! It's as long a series as final fantasy or Dragon Quest. 24 total games. Of those i think about 4 are ports. There are others that are similar to ports but actually completely enhanced and changed. There's a harvest moon out there for lots of different types of people. None of them are the "ultimate" they all have features that are different. Though I would like to one day see a harvest moon with all of the features from each harvest moon in a single game.
Oops! I meant the selection of Harvest Moon games I've played is small. I should really proof read my comments before posting. XD Yeah the Harvest Moon series is pretty expansive. One of these days I'm going to try the Rune Factory games. They look pretty cool.
On a related note, I picked up Harvest Moon: Back to Nature on PSN/PSP. I haven't really played much of it yet, but look forward to plowing (see what I did there?) through it. :D
Have any of you ever used ENB for any of your games?
I got a new video card a week or so ago and I've been experimenting with ENB mods. First off, I have no idea what ENB stands for. From what I can tell, nobody really does. Essentially, it accomplishes some graphical quality increases using an extra rendering layer. This obviously comes with a hit to performance, so you may not like the results on older hardware.
The main development goes on at http://www.enbdev.com/ and consists mostly of a modified DirectX 9 dll that you copy into the game's directory. Then, presets and configurations specific to whichever game you're using are available, whether from the creator of... Read All

The main development goes on at http://www.enbdev.com/ and consists mostly of a modified DirectX 9 dll that you copy into the game's directory. Then, presets and configurations specific to whichever game you're using are available, whether from the creator of the ENB series or from users. Nexus has a few different ENB configurations for Skyrim and Oblivion. Skyrim is shown in the picture above.
At its most basic, it seems to give everything on-screen more depth and realism, though I haven't been able to really nail down *why*.
Icenhancer uses the same ENB dll at its core but has various other additions built-in.
Generally the installation is a snap, it's just a matter of extracting some files into the C:\Program Files\...\Game folder, and they generally don't overwrite anything.
Thanks for this, I haven't heard of ENB. Ill give this a shot.
What new video card did you get? Did you have to get a new power supply too? In the next year or so I am going to upgrade my video card, but don't want to get one such that I have to upgrade the power supply in my desktop as well.

I got an nvidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti. Not the newest thing out, but new enough to play most things at Ultra High quality. Skyrim is so beautiful.
And yes, my PC came with a 300W power supply, and any decent video card needs at least 400, so I just bumped it up to 650. Nice but cheap Thermaltake. It's running cool without any additional fans or obsessive cable management, so I'm thrilled.
ENB stands for Enhanced Natural Bloom. It adds in sort of a layer of extra bloom to make things glow more. The reason i prefer RCRN is because it is not an artificial overlay like most graphical adjustments are. It changes the actual graphics for more realistic effect. The trade off is it is a lot harder performance hit.
Sorry I want to be more clear with what I meant. ENB does NOT adjust actual game mechanics. The bloom adjustment or saturation included in any particular ENB will not effect your stealth and such. RCRN is a REAL in game change not a filter that you see the picture through. At night it is near pitch black making abilities like night vision much more useful. It also effects sneaking making you harder to see when in dark areas.
Ya there is a lot of people who use ENB panicked. Nothing wrong with it. Most people don't really understand the differences or what ENB really is as you said. Which is why most stick with the similar ENB rather then an actual new shader and lighting revamp. In comparison to think about. The awesome water mods you see use new shaders. However with your ENB on, look at the water and you'll see it really isn't much different. The mods of course do more like changing the physics and such but that is besides the point.

Not only is this an incredibly geeky marching show, it's pretty well-done. It makes me want to dig out the trumpet and go back to college, just so I can get out on the field again.
Some of this technique is amazing. Making the horse (which I'm assuming is supposed to be Epona) gallop is one of the best things I've ever seen done in a marching show.

I played this version a bit but I was never really awesome at Double Dragon. Then again, who was? :D Did you ever beat any incarnation of this classic?
I have been finding many retro themed YouTube channels lately. Here is the latest from YouTuber snowcon3 on Double Dragon for the Game Boy.

Double Dragon 2 was my jam. I didn't have it but my friend did. I used to spend the night with him every couple of weeks, and we'd play the hell out of it. We beat it a handful of times, it never got old.
But going back to it a few years ago, man it didn't age well.
I never played it on the game boy though.

Some games don't age well at all. I know this is sacrilege in certain circles, but ol Atari 2600 games don't generally hit me as aging too well. Most of the NES games I loved aged fine, except(again heresy in certain circles) the original Metoid.
The first time I played the original Metroid I had beaten Super Metroid already and it wasn't as polished and hard to get into.
Super Metroid has aged amazingly well, but you're right, I actually played the original Metroid for the first time about 3 years ago. So clunky.
There was an absolute masterpiece released on XBox Live a fear years ago, Shadow Complex. It was basically just Super Metroid with better graphics and a different setting. Super Metroid has not only stood the test of time, it's one of the most copied games of all time, because of how amazing it is.

I never felt the original SimCity, SNES SimCity, SimCity 2k or 3k were that hard to understand. All of those versions were tons of fun, the best of the lot I felt was the SNES version or 2k. It seems the new SimCity take a few notes from the earlier games and allows you to simply zone and have the game decide based on population and whatnot, what buildings are constructed in the Residential, Commercial and Industrial areas. Allocating power, water and sewer to your cities doesn't seem that complicated either. Like the guy in the video, I am want to build my own version of Las Vegas as well!
I doubt EA would back down and release this game on Steam but if they did I would snap it up in a second. Well, maybe a few minutes as the checkout process in Steam takes a little bit.
What did you think of the video? Did you try a later incarnation of SimCity, if so what did you think? Are you going to pickup SimCity 2013?
That looks really, really cool. I love how the water/sewer/electricity is tied to the streets, so you don't have to worry about complicated pipes (especially since that's what I do for a living lol).
It really looks like it can be whatever a player wants it to be. Simple to complicated, and I like that. I might have to get this one.

I know, I am going back and forth on if I should get it... Hmmm.
Wow, I'm really excited for this. It looks really well made. I like how the roads can be curvy and the water and electricity runs on the roads. I feel like they really incorporated the roads into this one. Also, I like how easy they made it to zone different areas although I wonder if you can make smaller zones or if they are always as large as they were shown in the video.
I love the sim city games. I played the 2nd and 4th ones and loved both of them.
I have always been a Sim City fan. I remember the first time I played back in High School on a Mac. Sim City 2000 and the cheat "porntipsguzardo" why I remember that I have no idea. I defiantly will be picking this one up.

Gearbox has been talking about the Mecromancer for sometime and as such I am really looking forward to trying her out. I think I am a bit more interested in her class than the other in game classes I haven't tried yet.
When she drops will you give her a shot or are you more interested in your current character? Maybe another character you haven't tried thus far?

I just watched this Retroactive video on Kid Icarus for the NES. Kid Icarus was one of those games I always wanted but never wanted enough to ask for it for my Birthday or Christmas(the only times I could get games as a kid). I had a NES hint book(all text) that explained how to do well at the first few levels of Kid Icarus and I read the text imagining how the game would look and play.
Did you play Kid Icarus or any of the later incarnations?

I managed to beat it once. It's so incredibly frustrating at times. Getting turned into an eggplant was one of the most annoying things in any video game I've ever played.

I opened the game up on my Mac laptop and it played very well with no lag or slow down at all. I imagine it would even run on a low powered PC. The game is fairly simple, you are the blue Cubmen and the red Cubemen are coming at you and want to over run your base. So... you need to defend it from them and as such you have a few Cubemen you can build to help you. You can move your Cubemen around so if you put a mortar Cubmen in a spot and you think he would be better somewhere else, you can. I really like this aspect of Cubemen as most tower defense games ONLY allow you to place a tower in a static spot.
The game starts you in an easy mode, which was fun but I imagine it can ramp up pretty quick as it comes with a ton of levels and the last levels are in Insane mode.
If you dig retro styled multi-platform Tower Defense games you need to check out Cubemen. It also has a multi-player mode I wanted to try but I didn't see any games I could join.
Thanks BR for allowing me to win the game in his give away contest! Looking forward to playing it more.
I believe you can actually make maps for the game since its all block based. Some of the player maps are pretty awesome.
Also, we should play a skirmish mode or get a few other people and play a mayhem game. They are pretty insane. I don't know if you've tried mayhem yet.
